Quote:This is sort of what I meant.I dont see it really. both new power-sets and , as we are calling it here "conceptual proliferation" will likely continue. probably more conceptual proliferation just because it would use existing animations and tested effects. i guess the biggest problem with new powers is this. there are 8 damage types in the game. and there are only so many stat effects. can you make something that is distinct and is not directly comparable to another power but inferior or overpowered? I'm sure they can, but i guess thats my big conceptual chopping block, a lot of cool concepts are just too narrow or would be too much like existing ones. another thing is wondering if there are powersets that are too thematically tied to one orogin. people complained that demons were too magic, i can see totemic having the same complaints, and power armor being too tech.
Personally, I would rather see added weapons, and new animations for existing sets. Playing an old set with new animations would make it seem like a new set to me. -
Quote:With this thought process, there is not much that is not already represented in the game other than Weapon sets, and MM sets.I don't think its possible to run out of powerset ideas.
Actually, because of the ability to recolor them, they don't even have to stick to pre-formed concepts about what they "are." A set with a name like "Strange Forces" or "Entropy Domination" could look like just about anything.
And part of the reason "Water Control" is so desirable is for the ability to recolor it and call it not-water.
Recoloring, and Proliferation can cover about anything. -
Quote:Other than this, I am not sure what is left that isn't represented in the game already. Perhaps a water set, and a few forms of MM pets.As long as there is a Medieval weapon or Eastern martial art not covered by the game, there's a good chance there's at least one power set is some stage of development.
New power sets based on actual super powers, especially mainstream ones, yeah we've seen the end of them.

Quote:I thought you had, but it may of consisted of what you just posted.Did I? The main protection is just to push your defense to 59%+, though with all the buffs flying around, it may not be necessary. It kind of depends on how self-sufficient you want to be and how many purples you refuse to use. Defense debuffs aren't much of a problem on Super Reflexes, but you can give yourself another 1-3% defense if concerned. Not that 59%-62% defense is trivial, even for Super Reflexes, but it should be doable.

During pre-beta I tested most of the scrapper secondaries (Fire and Inv excluded) with dream builds. Really, /Elec felt more survivable than anything else. I know it was not one of the OP's options though.
-
I have played all three at the high end, with full purples. With the incarnates powers, one of which is a really good click heal. I have to give it to /SR in normal content, and /WP in incarnate content.
The incarnate trials can be pretty rough on an /SR toon. Not only is the soft cap increased, but all of the mobs do -def. It can get painful fast, Werner has posted multiple ways to protect against that though.
There are multiple problems I had with /SR though. For one it blooms really late, like at 35 was when I started feeling good about it. The other was that when it did hit the soft cap it got boring because the game became so easy, with incarnate powers that would only get worse for me. -
Not trying to be insensitive, but there are options other than particle count that can be turned down to make the game run smoother on older systems.

Quote:Those two are the top of my list anytime this comes up. We have complained about Hasten for years, I think Tunnel Rat may finely get it.
Hasten. Might as well get that one out of the way right off the bat. That includes other people's Hasten.
Superspeed, Superjump, Combat Jump, Sprint, and the hand and foot glow for Hover. -
Quote:I took it as he was replying to the general range of costs in the system, which includes more than just aesthetic items.I haven't watched the entire video, but what exactly was said in the chat? Because the transcribed bullet point clearly states that the 20 E merits is for a cosmetic item. This, of course, could be an error in transcription.
He said "The really high end stuff would be say 20 e-merits." As he said stuff, and not costumes I figured he was referring to the content of the system as a whole.
The upside, is the devs can be reasonable when it comes to costs. The inf cost on component conversion was lowered (just not enough imo), so they have shown they are willing to come down. -
Quote:This has bothered me for some time. I often find myself wanting to ask if they have attempted to play the game their way, instead of the way someone else says is best.
I often struggle in politely explaining the difference, particularly when folks quote "forum experts" out of context. I don't see this changing any time soon.
I also don't see it changing. The idea that +def is the only way to build is not a fact in the mind of so many people. There are some I have seen that refuse to believe there is any other way to play the game.
I am not even sure Werner himself could change it at this point. Sorry Werner, you are the one I see being held up the most often. I suppose that is because when it comes to +def you do seem to be one of the best. A compliment, I promise.
So, the real question is if the amount of work it will take to add other variables will be worth it? It seems to me changing the current views will be about as easy as changing the course of a river. It can be done, but what will be gained? -
This was how I took it also. I was thinking that 20 E-merits would be for IO recipes, not the costume options.
-
Any of you have screen shots of the auras?
KK, I watched it to see them.
In just the few moments I saw these things, I had so many ideas! -
And the dream of a Sub-Zero scrapper can come true.

Quote:This. With perma hasten PS is up multiple times in a fight. I think we have discussed this before on here though. I can see where it is hard to consider it when doing the math. You left out Power Sink in your analysis. In the scenarios where they are surrounded by 10 or more foes, Willpower may be getting its best regen buff, but a well built Electric can completely neuter up to 16 foes (the target cap), including bosses. With good recharge levels, it would be available every spawn for such use. Active mitigation like this should be taken into account just like it would be for Dark Armor.
With that said, the lack of a click heal frustrates me to no end with WP. Which tends to make EA feel more survivable to me.
EA is also much more fun to play. There is just something funny about draining all of a groups end, and beating on them while they can't do anything. -
Positive feed back is great for the ego, but really adds very little.
Negative feed back alerts the Devs of potential problems, and allows them to correct them.
I love this game, but I still see areas where it can be an even better game. -
Quote:Seriously. This is why I would hate to be in the gave development industry. Aside from the really long hours, grueling work, impossible release schedules, and low pay relative to other industries, no matter how cool your stuff is, there will always be the people who 1) demand more, more more! and 2) constantly whine about insignificant little crap because it's the MOST IMPORTANT THING EVAR!!!
That's why, even when I don't agree with a decision they make, I try to make sure they know that I'm very happy with the game as a whole and really appreciate their efforts.
Trust me, it is not only in the video game industry that it is like this. :/ I am starting to think it is just part of the gamer personality. -
Quote:I don't really disagree with you, but I fear feed back on this will get lost in the other changes.Well, crap. Please understand that I mean you no ill will when I say this - I sincerely hope you read that wrong, because this would be such a dick move I can't even describe. Why?!? What is this, Lineag II? Even if the "Incarnate" costume pieces sure as hell look like they came out of that game, what use are they to level 50 characters only?
Jophiel makes a good point - by level 50, I've already established my character's look and theme long ago. Am I seriously expected to dump that in favour of looking like a WoW reject? Not that I mind that theme, really, but if I wanted that kind of character, I'd have made one all along. I refuse to make a character and then wait 50 levels to put on goofy costume parts.
Why does this feel more and more like your classic MMO? Raid grind, loot, and now the "epic" gear with the ridiculous huge pointy shoulders. Seriously, why are we making it more and more like every other MMO ever made? Because if I wanted every other MMO, there are better games out there. I play this one because it's NOT like them.
As I said before, I see both sides of the argument. I really like the costume pieces personally, and I am sure I will use them on multiple 50s.
Perhaps a lesser version of them that can be used over the full level spectrum would help. Just remove the spiffy glowing parts.
Consider also, level locked costume options are not a new concept in this game. There is just a higher level attached to it this time. -
Quote:I think the incarnate costumes unlock account wide, but are only usable by lvl 50 characters. Unless I read that wrong. If the costumes are for level 50 characters only, then that would suck horribly, and probably be one of the few things which could make me just leave the whole thing. I'm tired of going through the "Capes at 20" debate once a year. There's nothing I hate more in this game than gated costume pieces, and that includes forced teaming.
This is the primary reason why I've always been a fan of paid Booster Packs: Because I knew - I KNEW - that if the developers didn't put these things in Boosters, they'd stick them behind some asinine unlock criteria like having the Zookeepr badge or running 100 Tip missions or, as the case may be, hitting level 50. I would sooner pay real money for costume stuff than have to unlock them per character and be unable to use them until a certain arbitrary moment after creation. Failing that, I would do whatever it took to unlock these costumes for my entire account. Failing THAT, I don't want more unlockable garbage.
However, considering I can buy both capes and auras to be used at character creation, it would be... Bad if the costume sets were 50-only. -
Quote:Yeah, I hate the FX of Hasten more with each passing year. How about some crackling lightening, or.....anything else!If not sooner.
I wonder who thought the effects of Hasten were best represented visually by fire. Perhaps this person was inspired by the archetypal old man shouting at some young person zipping by, "Hey, where's the fire?" Too bad powers like Repulsion Field don't make use of grass. That would be truly epic.
This should have been finished within an issue. It is massively frustrating that it has not been. -
He will be back. No one stays dead in comic books.

Quote:This makes sense. When they tied Vanguard costume pieces to VG merits, there was the MSR to get them fast. That depends on what the costs are. If it takes ten weeks of solid grinding for an account-wide unlock, then that would be missing the point. And I would not be in the slightest surprised if it took this long or longer. After all, costumes seem to be considered an "elite" award. Remember the drop rate on costume recipes?
I'm hoping for SANE requirements for this, however. I sincerely hope that this won't require me to do the equivalent of getting T4 powers in every slot on a couple of characters. I'm still not interested in the raid grind.
With this, I would hope 1-3 e-merits will purchase each piece. That would allow at least one a day to be purchased. More if there is a reasonable cost attached to Astral Merits.
The only other thing I want for the issue is the Storm Elemental Lore. It actually fits my Storm Avatar concept for my one incarnate. The rest of my Incarnate merits will go into costume items.
I can see why some people don't like this, but it also seems to be the natural evolution of the system. Costume stuff (I am including emotes, and auras in this term) is the one thing that may actually challenge people to make a hard choice on how to spend these merits. Anything else I think would just see people banking them. I know I would.
I personally have long wanted hitting lvl 50 to be a bit more special. The idea that there is now special lvl 50 costume options adds to that for me. I know some will not feel the same way, and I respect that. -
Quote:I would have to agree with all of this. I am confused as to what your slotting goals were.I see a few things that jump out at me right off the bat (RttC doesn't get much out of -ToHit enhancing, Repulsing Torrent is...less than decent), but not being able to open the build makes it difficult to really offer advice. It looks like maybe your friend used the older (pre-May 8th) version of Mids.
With KM, recharge is king. You want CS and PS up as much as possible. One (CS) allows for the possibility of the other (PS) being up more.
I know it is not popular, but I like to slot WP for regen. The build is not bad, it is just not the route I would go. Others can say more, but it seems if you are not going for a LOT of +def it is almost not worth it.
I just redid my DB/WP scrapper, I will see what I can come up with later today for KM/WP. -
Many of us said months ago that they would tie costume unlocks to this system. I can't say I am super happy about it, but it still looks exciting. The fact that it is account wide takes a lot of the sting out of it.
All in all I am very excited. This is an amazing effort for a half issue. -
Quote:Whether you mean to or not, using the term "Overpowered" makes it sound like you are nerf herding. No one likes nerfs, so if they feel like someone is calling for them, or calling attention them, they get annoyed. That is where the animosity is coming from.To clarify, I am not COMPLAINING about how over-powered we are; I am just 'conceding' that yes, it can make the game less interesting.
I am simply asking how fast have *other* people been running these so I have some sort of benchmark to go on.
That's it. Really.
I don't quite understand where all this animosity is coming from; simply because of the title and the fact that I agreed that the game _has become less challenging?
n number of posts and most of them seem to concentrate of 'everything' but what I had originally asked; how fast are your best times.
Is it that so hard to get?
Really, I like it being that easy. When I want it harder, for some unknown reason, I just up the difficulty. Even with all incarnates +4 can be a challenge. Also incarnate, like vet badges, doesn't mean good player. One weak link can throw a master run into a spin.
