There's a paucity of truth-telling about blappers by meleers. It would behoove you guys to tell the truth to make your case, rather than exaggerate, deceive, and outright lie.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You continually and rabidly perpetuate delusional conspiracies by a fabricated "melee community" to nerf blasters.

If you spent a quarter of the energy you dedicate to attempting to frame-up "the melee community" with spin and utter hyperbole to actually listening to players who want balanced mechanic's and not nerfed AT's - then maybe you would be afforded a scrap of credibility by many of the melee players you have *chosen* to alienate and antagonize.

Whats really sad is to watch you patting yourself on the back on the blaster boards for admittedly causing aggravation in this fabricated, fantasy "Melee Community" you've chosen to create to entitle yourself to even more delusional, conspiracy theory martyrdom.

It would likewise behoove you to stop desperately campaigning to keep this unbalanced mechanic at your disposal and focus on fixing everything else thats wrong with the blaster AT so you don't have to rely on de-toggles in the first place.

Sadly many on the blaster boards don't want thier AT to be balanced and competative and want to keep using this broken, overpowered mechanic as a crutch - and then actually claim to be "fighting for their AT".

    It's laughable CB.

Scrappers out damage blasters in melee. Blasters AT mod is 1, while scrappers is 1.125. Scrappers also get unresistable criticals of 2x damage 5% of the time, which can be compared to Blasters 33% unresistable damage.

Energy Melee's Stuns coupled with toggle dropping pretty much make the damage a secondary effect. While the blasters (who have little or no mez protections) are used to functioning with break frees active, most scrappers are not, as they rely on their inherent protection powers to keep them safe.

In other words, despite your toggle powers protections, pretend you don't have them and prepare based on that -- because those protections will be knocked down at some point.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do want to point out there here is a red name not only advocating the use of inspirations in pvp but also suggesting that it's an intended mechanic to use them in pvp.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not only that, but it's a red name confirming the fact that blaster secondaries (that drop toggles) in thier current functionality: trivialize melee defensive powers

They not only trivialize melee defenses with one attack but these attacks have an unresistable damage component *AND* disorient you at the same time.

Id sure like to have 1 attack that makes me a one man group in a group oriented pvp game.

Freeze Ray + BU + Aim + Bone Smasher = immobilized, disoriented opponent at 1/2 health

2-3 attacks that basically allow you to status lock and defeat an opponent in about 8 seconds.

I fight scrappers all the time and the fight's arent fast - they are usually slow attrition battles.

On paper they may out-damage blasters but in actual game-play scenarios ive never, ever been 2-3 shotted by a scrapper - not even a BS scrapper on a BU+crit.

    And why is that?
Because scrappers dont have a broken, overpowered game mechanic at thier disposal.

Co* PvP is already a status-jack fest where damage output is a secondary objective to rendering your opponent unable to act and where BF's will keep you alive longer than a Respites.

Nerfing de-toggles is a good step in the right direction for PvP in Co* - simply because imho - the pvp couldnt be farther away from comic book encounters.

Less status jacking, more fighting pls.

Hey, here's a novel idea! If you don't like the powers/don't want to be an Arachnos flunky, don't do the missions! Just sayin'.

I've got a better idea! How about we get powers without being flunky the way the heroes do! Just sayin'.

How would you get the powers? Who would train you in these new ways? They're villains, they wont do soemthing for nothing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

..the same way heroes do... by having 40 levels of prior experience. Heck, by your logic, how do you get any powers other than the two you start out with?

The problem is, they wanted to make picking a patron a majo thing, but they didn't want any 1 to be more powerful. Thus, they lock you into one patron, and the powers are nearly identical.

On my scrapper, I have 3 very different flavors of APP, 4 with my defender (5?), and I can change them with each respec. How is this equitible?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Op my man whats happenin?
    Hope your well.
You found a more active SG after YKC died out I hope!

The answer is this my friend: it isnt equitable at all.
But I don't think we're gonna have a lot of say on whether it changes.
History has proven that this dev team will do whatever it deems "fun" reguardless of mass, logical, constructive reasoning as to why it's counter-intuitive to the needs and desires of the playerbase - a playerbase that pays all the bills.

To the rabid fanboys and dev-lawyers who are already poised at the reply button to try and deflect from this simple fact: Save your breath and keep telling yourself it doesnt matter that we drive this market - ill be over here, hanging out in reality.

I dunno the patron powers may rock - who knows.
We'll see when we get there.
But they sure are specific to the NPC's they embody.
NPC's who have very strong concepts and BG's.
Kinda like the playerbase's BG's and concepts.
    Remember them? the "Destined" ones?
"Destined" ones who are basically going to be walking around advertising another persons concept - a developer's personal concept character with thier own signature powers and costume pieces.

Sure you can RP it out all you want - but who exactly are the stars of the show here?

    Seems kinda self-centered to me.

Detoggling is a kludge. Its another one of those strange mechanics that becomes more important in and of itself than the powers we use to create our characters.

It should be difficult but not impossible to overcome toggles using our powers, not strange mechanics.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Precisely. Exactly. QFE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT & E again.

    Great news.
Looking forward to this totally overpowered mechanic getting balanced so that melee defenses are no longer so effortlessly trivialized in PvP.

Co* PvP is already a status-jack fest where inflicting damage is a secondary objective to rendering your opponent unable to act and where your more likely to survive carrying all BF's instead of Respites.

This is a step in the right direction.
Sadly many in the blaster community dont want this fixed - many of them would rather rely on a broken mechanic to be successful and just keep dreaming up delusional conspiracies created by the "melee player community" to get thier AT nerfed - instead of focusing on getting everything else thats wrong with the AT adjusted - so they dont have to depend on this mechanic to begin with.

    'bout time.

I seem to remember that Coyote was added to Outbreak as a result of that player's relationship with the game. Forgive my ignorance, but didn't that player pass away?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No ignorance, and that is correct.

    [/ QUOTE ]

His name was Mathew Bragg - he had been a regular around the pre-beta boards since about '01.
We started one of the 1st SG's in beta together - Freak Force.
He was a very kind and compassionate guy with a quick wit - I think of him often.

I like a number of the ideas you present. Many simply won't happen, for a variety of reasons, but some are quite doable. When I get out of my current mountain of work, I'll re-read this and try and implement some of it.

    Castle -
You just let us know if you happen to go solo/form a game company on your own.
Youre humble, willing to listen, willing to compromise, and willing to be wrong.

Rare traits in a normal dude let alone a game designer - who typically fancy themselves terminally unique, terminally smarter than thou (usually at the cost of any social skill) and thinking of what thier reply is going to be before your even 1/2 way finished with your sentence.

Those traits of yours are all this community has really ever wanted from this development team: not to get everything they want - just some willingness to be open to other possibilities other than thier own immutable vision of what fun *should be* for everyone(tm).

Pretty much what the devs used to be like here a few years ago in CoH Beta before the Ego-pocolypse commenced.

Good show man, really good show.
I dont agree with some of your ideas, but thats a good thing and not really the point of what im getting at.

The point is your willing to listen and share.
    Very, very impressive and refreshing.

Maybe I'm missing something here... but isn't 5% pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things?

    [/ QUOTE ]

yes, it is . . . but the pickings are currently slim for the DOOOOOOOOOM Patrol.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is not the doom patrol. This is the "hey, this doesn't make sense, please explain" patrol.

Also, if 5% DEF were really so trivial, why did the Devs cut Hover, Combat Jumping, and a slew of other powers that offered such "trivial" DEF in their rebalance as well?

Are the Devs the doom patrol as well?

Feel free to mischaracterise the intents and questions of others if it helps your world view, though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Im onboard with you on this one as usual Foo.
Ignore the scampering of the e-tard/dev-lawyers who insist that anyone who challenges the logic of development is a troll/doomsayer/nerfherder/fundamentally wrong/eats babies yadda-yadda.

It is your right to do so as often as you please.

I started a thread about this very same topic not too long ago - it was met with the same garbage from the dev-lawyers and crickets from development.

There is no sound reasoning or logic provided by development as to why this power should'nt be updated post I5/I6.

It certianly *NEEDS* to be updated - the flaw with this power has been brought up so many times that I can only assume that the devs are intentionally ignoring the topic or simply cannot justify its current implementation.

The -def is unintuitive, outdated and makes the player even more susceptable to being hit in the romper-room that is CoX pvp by the rampant and overpowered status-effect/stat-jacking that its supposed to be providing protection from in the 1st place.

Update this power or provide solid reasoning as to why it shouldnt be - is my vote.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
We're tweaking with toggle dropping...mostly decreasing its overall effect.

We just received tech that will allow players to pass buffs onto certain powers (such as Blizzard).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    'bout time.

Absolutely retarded that all this time a blaster using melee 1st in fight has about a 80% increase in his chance to defeat a melee AT - who he should be doing everything in his power to remain at range from and only melee as a last resort.

I guess we'll see a mysterious decrease in the self subscribed and often broadcasted "skill" level of all you /nrg blasters out there who have been riding the out of control toggle dropping cheese and just shrug at all the complaining like its tough to be so good.

    Congratulations, you've been balanced.

Id enjoy laughing at you but you'll mysteriously stop pvping after this change I guarentee it, you know who you are.

    Cuah..
    CuahaAHaha!

Hey, its been a while since states actually posted something that made me smile.
    Thanks buddy.

The defense changes are nice too btw.

I play Rob/FF MM or Energy/Thermal Corruptor when I play CoV.

My CoH characters are a Rad/Rad Defender (of course) and an Energy/Dev Blaster.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You dont play a melee AT?
Shocking, you would think since the overly whimped and support dependant melee AT's are as valuable and balanced as ranged/support in groups and pvp that you would..

    oh wait..
  10. The issues with the game are nickle-dime compared to that States.
When it comes down to it - we're all really just getting our panties jacked up over what we all think is or isnt entertaining and fun.

    Changes to Rage

    Unbelievable.

What happened, when did you stop listening to your fans?

Congrats devs, you have successfully "balanced" the crowning powers for the most popular Pri/Sec Tanker combination into utter uselessness.

Unstoppable and Rage are now dead powers.

This is the last time im gonna type this next bit, and thats not a threat, im simply sick of reading myself say it, and jumping up and down for a year and change trying to fight for my fun, and justify paying for that:

Stop punishing players for using powers.

Listen to your players when scores of them tell you something isnt fun.

Comprehend the fact that in some remote possibility of reality that what you may consider to be "balanced", isnt fun, and people play games for fun.

Your "balancing" the comic book feel right out of this game.

Your tuning it into an interdependant mess and taking choices right out of peoples hands.

Your posting token threads to humor your fan base, implying they have some kind of interactivity with upcoming changes, when its apparent we dont at all. If it isnt done on purpose its certianly coming across that way.

Im not going to pay for that anymore, sorry.

Why would I when I can play other MMOG's out there that arent going to punish me for using my characters abilitys?

If all that is interpreted as over-emotional whining and holding my oh so valuable 15$ a month and fan allegience hostage for the devs to do something about then thats fine, knock yourselves out.

Just think about what ive written before subscribing it to "E-Martyrdom" or "OM*GWTFLOL U BROKE MY CLASS i QUIT!!1!!1!shift1!!!1one!111" raging.

So no ultimatums, ill simply cancel my account like many others have from the old beta crowd and quietly slink away to other games.
Remember that guys..its a *game* it shouldnt be work or a protest march.

    Changes to Rage

    Hey heres a great idea:
How about just leaving it alone since SS powers cost an unreasonable amount of endurance as it is.
How about letting SS tankers have some fun with a high end melee power.
Dont the other tanker melee sets have damage buffing abilitys with *no* drawback?
Energy Melee and Fire Melee come to mind.

How about "balancing" the pool powers to be a little less important to builds instead.

Casual or hardcore aside..Unyeilding as it stands cancels the rage disorient unless you lose end and your toggles drop, which happens often , even more often if you dont buy stamina or conserve power.

One of either is already integral to buy unless you want to /brawl /jab /punch til level 50 just to conserve enough end to keep your toggles powered..especially for boss fights.
