Oh, yeah, sorry for the typo. I meant an Energy/Dark Corruptor. That's even better!
On a more serious note, while Poison is a bit more subtle, anyone you team with with a brain should be able to notice what you're doing. If people don't notice, stop debuffing for a bit, and when they all die, you can start again. They'll notice your contribution really quick! -

Quote:^This! The NCSoft Launcher is lying to you because it's (to be polite) not very good.. Despite what it tells you your game is not up to date. Specifically it no longer tries to contact the correct login server. There have been several changes to the ip address recently and for some reason a number of us do not receive this information.
The login ip for Test and Beta has not changed and that's why you can still reach those two.
Sadly there is little you can do besides a full or partial reinstall to get the new ip address.

I had the same problem for a few days. Redownloaded the game, and everything worked fine. -
I think it's like the swap ammo power. You have to "purchase" the power by using a power pick, not actual money. Basically, choosing one power unlocks the other three, which are gated behind it.

Most of the Tanker Defense-based sets can fairly easily reach the Defense soft cap. As such, I would think that you're right in assuming that resistance-based sets will get a lot out of Storm Kick's bonus. However, Defense-based sets will probably get a lot of mileage out of it in the lower levels, too. Hybrid sets like Invuln and Willpower though, will probably like it the most.
-
-
Not a joke, probably...we know that the set is in development, and it might not even have animations yet.
But thanks for posting those. I'm sure that many people are going to be interested. -
Asking for problems, especially from farming companies, who could then sell fully-developed characters. Probably never going to happen.
-
Wouldn't Earth/Poison or Ice/Poison be a control beast now, too, with the changes to the Poison secondary?

Street Justice is NOT coming out with I21. It'll be released shortly after. We don't know how long "shortly" is.

Quote:Sooo...basically you're saying that when presented with evidence contrary to your opinion, you don't need to argue against it to prove your point, you just need to say that you don't agree, and that makes you right again? Why would I be a hypocrite and question their opinions or sources? Instead I simply tell them I do not agree, I do not have to list the reasons why since that is an attempt to disparage and invalidate their opinions...and there is no need to do that.
I also won't explain why your comment that I don't change my mind is wrong. You can discover that for yourself.
We are presenting you with facts. You are choosing to ignore them (in some places, you actually acknowledge the facts, and then pretend like they don't matter). Then, you say that we are arguing on baseless claims. You don't see how that is hypocritical.
This is a discussion. What happens here is that you state your facts, we state ours, and we try to figure out who is right. When you present no facts, and we do, then there is no discussion. Don't pretend like WE'RE at fault for why the discussion has veered. -
Quote:Again, I'm arguing with your facts, not the interpretation of those facts. As is yours of course. I get your point. I just don't agree with it. I think we can see plenty of players left (even though some folks here even dispute that), we can say it's at least likely there were some common reasons (it's almost impossible they all left for individual reasons, like some contend) and I pose why I might leave or why I left earlier, and leave it up to the devs.
Arguing as to whether the game has lost over half it's population is just like any other argument against a game posed to a fan. It's going to get picked apart and shut down.
It's the NGE syndrome. I learned long ago to ignore it. Some players here at least seem to be in denial like many other games.
1) Yes, players have left. Other players have joined. This has led to a fairly stable game population over the past few years.
2) I am sure that there were some common reasons that people left. I don't think that the AT system is one of those.
3) The game hasn't lost half it's population, at least not based on any numbers I've seen. Even in the charts that you can plainly see, the game peaked at the release of CoV at around 190K subscribers. The last numbers we saw put us above 125K (or 30K above your "half"). And those don't account for any gains from Going Rogue, I don't think.
So where are your facts? -
Also, let's take a look at the MMO subscription numbers post a few pages back. How many of the non-Big Name or non-Big Developer titles have lasted (and how many of those act like WoW and inflate their numbers by counting temporary accounts as full subscriptions)?
I see games like Age of Conan and Warhammer Online get upwards of 800K subscribers, and then are almost dead within a year. Rift might be doing the same thing. Star Wars Galaxies had numbers until SOE decided that it didn't like that. Dark Age of Camelot: petering out. With Going Rogue, I'm betting that we're beating out Everquest, Everquest II, and Ultima Online as they are declining.
I mean, according to the 50K-150K chart, only a few games seem to be on the upswing, including a game I've never heard of: Dofus (and by the looks of it, I'd say it's an Asian game). The others are Second Life, LotRO (although we'll have to see if that trend continues with it being FTP or not), and Eve Online (although didn't they just lose a huge number of subscribers en masse?).
However, through all of that, CoH's numbers have held relatively steady. I don't think that we've done as bad as you think we have. Consider a few facts:
1) Superheroes are very much a western phenomenon, for the most part, at least in terms of how this game portrays them
2) Cryptic Studios was a no-name studio when it was working on this game
3) The game lost the known-title backing of Champions in the development process, which made it a very risky venture
4) There was no Asian release until after the game was live (look at the big hitters on that list, and you'll find that most of them are huge in Asia), which probably hurt it's release numbers.
Considering all of that, CoH has outlasted some games, been a bigger hit than others, and is still running. I'd say it's a success, and I don't know how you'd prove otherwise from an objective standpoint. -
Quote:I was actually going to make a Psy/Time Corruptor as my first character, but figured that it would almost be TOO much -Recharge. Changed him to a Fire/Time Controller instead.New idea I just had.
Time/Psychic defender. Some kind of time-torn psychic traveler. Or maybe a robot that has all kinds of synapse affecting functions, making time seem distorted for enemies. Lots of -recharge. I fully intend to floor an AV's recharge. And then make him go backwards. -
Quote:Can you tell me how many MMOs before WoW broke 200K subscribers? Because I highly doubt that ANYONE expected CoH to break 200K when it first came out. I don't think that many people were expecting the ~150K that it got.Same argument is posed for almost every game in existence by it's fans, including SWG.
It's not a stretch to expect folks were looking for a game launched online to break 200k subs, and certainly not be sub 100k.
Quote:But that's neither here nor there. There are reasons folks walked from this game. There is no way that I know of to be sure of what those reasons are.
The only thing I do know is that when I left last time I didn't say a word, seems like quite a few people have done the same. This time I chose to speak up.
Extrapolating the reason for why you dislike the game into a reason why others dislike the game (or at least that it would bring in new subscribers) requires evidence to be believable. Otherwise, it really is just an opinion, and those don't really have a lot of credibility when things like money come along. -
In creation time order:
Fire/Time Controller
Dark/Mental Blaster
Battle Axe/Shield Scrapper
Spines/Ice Stalker
Beam/Traps Corruptor
Then possibly:
Thugs/Time Mastermind
Dark/Ice Blaster
Stone/Regen Brute
I think that should last me a while. -

Typos happen. Also, I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out. Brains are odd like that. Wasn't there a study done recently that showed that people would automatically put the letters in the right order when they saw them, anyways, as long as the first and last letter were correct?

Quote:queerWait, what other meaning does the word "queer" have? Maybe it's my "English as a foreign language" speaking here, but I was unaware it ever meant anything other than a sexual slur.

Quote:The game is 7 years old! What the pancake did you expect?! For a niche game, CoH did VERY well, and exceeded expectations. But yes, after 7 years, there aren't as many people here. Your suggestion would NOT change that in any meaningful way.Steady, yes. And I don't mean to imply doom, or that the game is dying. Only that it perhaps did not meet expectations, has less subscribers than it launched with, and is probably in sub 100k territory at the moment. I don't think it's a stretch to make those contentions, though they are speculative I will admit.
Quote:And it's also a good point to say that they need to make current players happy. A medium would probably be the wisest choice.
Quote:It comes down to this. Last time I left, and if that chart is any indication, it looks like quite a few folks left at around the same time I did. I didn't post my concerns back then, I just did what most folks do when they don't like a game I expect...I voted with my feet.
This time I decided to speak up. I realize that some folks are passionate about this game and will defend it to the death, and though I can respect that I will not be silenced. This time I am going to speak my opinions on this game's weaknesses.
Quote:Because I believe the game deserves more players.
Quote:This game has MASSIVE potential but I think it's it's own worst enemy in some ways. What it does well it does better than almost every game on the market.
...what it fails at, however, makes a lasting impression IMO.
I am sure to post more complaints as time passes. This time I'm not just going to walk. I'm going to speak up...because I actually care. Last time I didn't. -
Quote:Considering that you have zero proof that a change like this would bring in droves of players, I think that most of your argument is irrelevant. Going free to play should bring in a lot of players, does that invalidate your argument that this would be needed to get more players?Fair enough to the first comment. The fact that the devs are against it means next to nothing, my response to the second. There not exactly beating down the doors to subscribe to this game...perhaps the devs are in error in their judgment.
Again, fair enough to the first, though I think you meant a sarcastic dig somehow. Didn't quite understand the point however.
I really can't argue against the rest. It's your opinion, it's mine...it's how it works.
Ah, now this should be interesting. I assume by your comment "oh please" you consider the statement that I would prefer not to lose my time invested as perhaps....unreasonable? petty? childish? lazy? Any or all?
Short term petty greed. That is your synopsis. Luckily for me that means next to nothing. Also luckily for me you do not determine what has or does not have merit in this forum. So I suppose all is fair in that respect.
Since you asked what, I'll clarify. I do have an hour to invest. You do not determine what is the best hobby for me. But thanks for demonstrating some concern as to my leisure activities and attempting some modicum of internet wit in the process.
My suggestion, thankfully, still stands. That is, of course, unless you know where they are hiding the millions of players you seem to believe are filling this game with revenue.....
The fact is that it takes very little time to get up to the levels you're suggesting. At that point, it is fairly simple to just reroll the character if you don't want it anymore, or would prefer another set at that level. Even then, you've got no guarantee that the new powerset would meet your expectations anyways, so then you're back to square one.
The Devs have worked hard to make this an alt-friendly game. Why would they completely change that direction now, when there's no evidence that it would increase revenues? -
^This. I like it. It's fairly simple (maybe not from a coding standpoint, I make no assumptions there), reduces influence coming in, increases supply of items, and the more stuff that sells on the market, the more influence goes out of the system.
-
Quote:Even then, I'd vote against it. Many powersets don't come into their own by level 10, or sometimes even level 20, before you put SOs into the powers. Giving a powerset respec before even giving the powerset a fair shake doesn't seem right.Ok, so how about you set the secondary rechoice to before level 30? Or even better...
Given one total rebuild at level 10 (primary and secondary choices) and one secondary rechoice at level 20.
It's still early...by this time most folks will realize that they don't like the build they have and can change it without need for the dreaded "delete, reroll" that this game's reputation is plagued with at the moment.
Were not really talking about a change of archetype here...that would require a reroll and that is understandable. We are talking about a powerset choice mistake rectified fairly early in the game.
Plus, there's the fact that the Devs themselves are against something like this, and have stated so multiple times. -
Why do you have so many empty power picks? What are you planning to do with those?
