The basic concept is a power armored catgirl (so Tech origin) from an alternate dimension where **** sapiens never evolved and felis sapiens is the dominant life form.

I generally prefer to have my characters name be a real name (i.e. a first name and a surname) rather than a code name and I'd prefer to stick with that although I think for this character the surname will be more of an extended clan name than a surname in the regular sense.

Here's a picture of the costumes I'm planning to use both in and out of armor (the power armor is actually a male body since I don't like the female armored body in part because it always seems to give you a bullet trap in your center of mass):

Oh, server is Virtue just in case you didn't guess

EDIT: Sigh, I should've guessed it would censor the species name for humanity

OK, I can't come up with the "clan name", but adapting a friend's SCA persona name, I just tried "Lyonnette" on Virtue.

Actually, they said they weren't necessarily going to tell us when they run it - they made a general annoucement to that effect. So they could have run it and we didn't know about it.

As to the OP, making it a petition process might limit it enough- but I'm not really in favor of giving a player the power to take something from another player, generally speaking.
  3. Thanks to Team 2 for a great TF.

Isotope 167 (typo above, this is her real number) reached level 50!
  4. MA Scrappers are very thematic. I love the one that I am running right now. With the new animation options, she can have a mixed bag of punches & kicks.

I think the main reason MA is getting a bad rep right now is that the damage is Lethal and lots of the higher level baddies resit Lethal a lot (but some don't).

I like the appearance of MA as a Scrapper - jump in and kick & punch things. I recommend trying one.

But I also like my new Electric Scrapper a bunch as well.

Other recommendations depend on playstyle, but if you are having fun with your Brute team, Scrappers will play like Brutes, but with Criticals instead of building Fury.

As you can see from my sig, I am partial to blasting in general, so if you know how to manage aggro (when to get it and when to avoid it and how) then Blasters do a ton of damage, and building Defiance is kinda like building Fury on your Brute. If you want to try a Blaster, maybe some sort of Blapper with the /energy or /electric secondary.

    New in town...

    Welcome!

I'm going to throw out another Glabal for you to consider joining:

    AEAnonymous

I don't have much to add beyond what the others have already said.
  6. Yay! It looks like I can be there after all.

Sorry about the late sign-up, I will show up and see if there is space.

I'm bringing Isotope 168, Rad/Rad Def. She *might* hit 50 on the TF.
  7. I almost didn't even go into this thread due to the title.

Was anyone else wondering why the OP put forth his "worst idea yet"? I think generally people want to put out their better or best ideas.
  8. I have to agree with what the others said, but I also had to come into the thread to compliment Oneirohero on a well-organized suggestion (from a relatively new poster!).

Keep up the good work, maybe the next one will gather more support.

Ghost Falcon may tell you differently, but based on my last experience trying to get the event to spawn in the sparsely populated redside, I would definitely say please test redside.

Although the hilarious "kick" bug apparently was on blueside, so maybe that's what they specifically want tested.

    Oops.

I still don't like the suggestion.

Ah, I keep forgetting about the "purchasable for real money" jetpack because it seems like a waste of money to me and I've never bought one.

But, yeah, I think you should set a bottom level for your MS Raids. Inclusiveness is all very well & good, but setting a level where the character actually is contributing is more than reasonable. Don't ask me what that level ir, though - but it might depend upon the AT/powersets.
  12. Not that I care one way or the other regarding this suggestion - but to play devil's advocate on the OP's main contention - having lowbies in zone detracts from the avergae merit gain per ship raid.

How does that level 4 get on a raid team in the first place? Someone invites them to join the raid.

How does that level 4 get onto the Mothership? Actually, I'm unsure whether it is possible for a lowbie to get up there without being teleported, but I could be wrong.

If there really is a problem with the lowbies lowering the merit gain for others, isn't in everyone's best interests (other than a leeching lowbie) to *not* invite them to join the raid or to kick them if they happen to get on a raid team by accident?

It seems to me that I had heard that level 35-40ish was not welcome on a mothership raid prior to the RWZ being unlocked and that they were routinely excluded or kicked. Why isn't that being done still? Aren't the reasons for excluding them still applicable to some extent? I know a level 35 SSK'd up probably is contributing, but not much any character lower than that.

So part of the answer to OP's concern is in player behavior, at least as far as preventing leeching by lowbies.

That being said, yeah, it seems kinda silly to have a recreation building over in the middle of a war zone - it isn't even in the protected depot, so heroes/villains have to travel across conflict happening below them or around them to get there. In the context of them cooperating to accomplish a world-saving goal, that behavior makes no sense. So moving lowbie coop opportunities to Pocket D makes sense.
  13. And naming just a few Corruptor powers that would NOT get Scourge under your proposition:

    ALL Radiation
    ALL Thermal
    ALL Pain Domination
    All FF
    ALL Kinetics
    ALL Sonic

(Note - this is more than 50% of the Corr secondaries.)

All Cold except Sleet (Tier 8 secondary power)
All Dark, except Dark Servant (Tier 9 secondary)

That seems a bit unbalanced for those sets that wouldn't get Scourge, doesn't it? And those that wouldnt get it until level 35 or later?

Whereas Traps & Storm would get them early on and would get multiple additional chances to Scourge?

    /unsigned.

Not at all an RPer, I could have done without Walk indefinitely.

But, yeah, now that we have it, I'm disappointed and wish it were different. But that just means I am still going to do without it indefinitely, I guess.

I don't expect non-unique names to appear alongside GoRo. All indications point to a name purge prior to its release though (although name purges have advantages and disadvantages as well, but since the community has seem them before the disadvantages are considered acceptable for the advantages it provides).
Only if you consider 10-15 minutes "an extended period of time".

And as far as the strategies you mention (checking other servers - wow, that's something a new player would not think of, really? ) - well, I honestly think you aren't giving these hypothetical new players enough credit for thinking of alternatives.

Interestingly enough, those long-term hard core players are still making new characters and getting names they want.

That's the one thing that people who make statements like this seem to ignore - it's not the norm in this game to have only the one or two characters first made on an account. The more typical behavior is to have many, many characters, with new ones being made as new issues come out or the fancy takes the player. And those characters also need names.

True, Golden Girl got a great name at launch (or whenever it was that she joined the game) - but the thing is, she is still using it now. Allowing another player to use the name while she is using it would cause all the problems already outlined (more than once) in this thread.

Name purges would be OK, with notice given of the conditions that will get a name released. I trust what the devs have said that the first one wasn't really all that effective. But most everyone here is in favor of a purge for inactive accounts, with a variety of definitions of "inactive" being put forth.

Disclaimer: I don't know Golden Girl outside this game, but I've always admired the name & costume. I would love to have been the person who nabbed it, but I didn't. Grats to her, I'm a bit jealous, but I don't want to copy her. I will make my own original, TYVM.

But then, I don't plan on using the power, ever. I have places to be, gosh darners, and I'm gonna at least be sprinting to get where I've got to go!

    ROFL

This is my impression of Walk as well. I kinda like the Male version and wish it was an option for my female characters. I will never use the exagerated slinky walk animation - it hurts my own back & hips just watching it.

And "supermodel" isn't the phrase that pops into my mind when watching it, more like super streetwalker. Just a tip for any of you guys who missed it - Very few women walk like that unless trying to attract the attention of any male in the area - even in heels. Yes, we know it works, but we don't put that much effort into it if it's just a matter of getting from here to there without the need for attention.
  19. Why does it matter that she uses the same hand to control movement and attacks? Is that "wrong"? It may be slower or feel amazingly awkward to you, Vinque, but if it's working for her, let it be. If she is finding it a problem, then use some of the suggestions offered by others here.

If she hasn't played an MMO before, there is actually a bit of a learning curve here - I know, because this was my first MMO 5 years ago. Stuff like "binds" is pretty exotic and it may be too soon to try those. I didn't know what a bind was when I first started playing and I still don't use them now.

But I found a way of moving that works for me, and a way of setting up my powers trays that works for me, and I always use the Arrow keys to move and click the power icons to attack, etc. It's probably a "noob" way to do it, but it was the easiest for me to "get". She will find the way that works best for her - let her experiment a bit until she gets the hang of of it.

You may just have to let go of your own ideas about the "best" or "most efficient" way to use controls, etc.

Help her find some other friends who are patient in answering questions in game, and she will turn to them in addition to you for all the other stuff you mentioned. At first she will probably be focussed on getting hang of the "how" of playing, but she might get more into the details over time (and then go check out the Wiki, etc.).

But some people will never try to use the on-line resources. It took me several months to find the forums and then a few more before I found the Wiki - but again, I was new to MMOs and never realized their purpose. I didn't know that these sources of info were way, way more helpful than any manual that came with the game or the in-game "help". Note: My Reg date here is actually about 6 months after starting to play.

If she doesn't want to use them and is never interested in the rich backstory and just wants to "flip out and kill stuff", that's a perfectly valid way of playing as well.

I guess my advice about helping is to back off a bit and give it time.
  20. As of Issue 13, there is no longer any use for Base Salvage other than the "Convert" option you noticed. The only "reason" we were given for this is that "people were confused when Base Salvage dropped".

When you convert the Base Salvage, it becomes "Brainstorms". Brainstorms then convert to Invention Salvage using the same Inventions Table after a second conversion - a random Common will cost 1 Brainstorm, while either a Tech or Arcane Rare costs 20 Brainstorms.

All crafted items in your base now are made from Invention Salvage. Each item has 3 alternate recipes, one for each tier of Invention Salvage. Empowerment buffs from an Empowerment Station also are made from Invention Salvage (not that many people use them any more).

Here is a good guide to all the changes made to Bases in Issue 13:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=126110

As others have mentioned, before this change was put into place, some people started hoarding Base Salvage to try to get a complete collection of all pieces. If you happen to have one of the super rare items stashed in your base or on a character, it might get a good price at the CH.

  22. I'm with Aett & Bill Z.

Cyrus spent more of his entire "hero" career taking care of people in Kings Row, looking pretty much as he does in that statue. His time as Breakneck was only a part of the story.

If the noobs in KR are put off by that picture, then it behooves them to learn his whole story.

    • Did you exit by clicking on the portal, or did you wait for the timeout to kick you from the zone?

AFAIK it only affected the people who were kicked out of the zone by timeout. In each case of mine that was the case, and based on conversations I think that holds for everyone.

    • Did you just enter the first instance and stay there, enter the second and stay there, or enter the first and then transfer to the second?

In the first (coordinated) test, entered the hero (first?) instance then transferred to the other via the on-map cave portal. In the second and third hero side spawns, there was only the one instance.

    • There was a short period when entry to the second did not work at the white present. Did you try and enter the second zone during this period and fail?

No, and this would have only applied to the very first spawn in any case.

There was one initial coordinated spawn, then at least 2 more hero ones which I was at; then another hero one that I missed while we were trying to get a villain one to spawn, then the second (final) villain one which barely missed being co-op (less than 30 sec), and possible one more hero one although I'm not sure.

My experiences matched Muiramir's (except that I was not in the first coordinated run, got on about 8ish EST).

    Laptop / COH

Many. many laptops will run this game. We have 2 different laptops, midrange, not gaming rigs at all. All we did extra was make sure there was a decent video card.
  25. Well, it looks like the husband will have to work Saturday, so count me in.

Either team, I will bring either Brighid Frost (fire/ice blaster) or Eris Starchilde (dark/ice defender). I also have a rad/rad defender if she would be more helpful than either of these two. Team leader can choose what fits her team better.
