New in town...

Hey everyone,

Im pretty new to the game, I trialed it a while back and enjoyed it, decided to actually get an account. Randomly picked infinity on villain side and havent ran across many players. Tend to solo but I also enjoy group play or I wouldnt be a mmo type of guy.

Thought I would introduce myself and ask a few questions.

1) Would it be considered to late to get started in CoH/V? I know its been around for a while but thought with new expansion coming out theres still time in its lifecycle.

2) Is Infinity a decent server for new players? Have yet to do any grouping and would like to at least experience some.

3) Anything any experienced players think it would be good to know? Currently a 16 Energy/Kinetics Corruptor if that helps.

Thanks for any input/information anyone has to share.

First of all WELCOME!

1) never too late.

2) Infinity's usually about the 3rd most populated server after Freedom and Virtue. Things have been pretty quiet lately, so if you have any trouble teaming, maybe think about switching to Freedom or Virtue. Virtue's my home server, filled up all my slots on Freedom, jumped to Virtue and I like it there.

3) If you've made it to 16 you're doing pretty well. There's too much in-game knowledge to cover in a single post, but if you have any specific questions, check out either the AT specific forums, or the player questions forum. There are also a TON of guides that will answer a lot of your questions too.

Most of your experience is going to come from playing the game. Watch other people to see how they do things, try different things, and ask teamates, most of the folks here are a friendly bunch and should have no problems helping you out. I haven't been playing much lately, picked up "Mass Effect" on a Steam weekend special and have been playing that for the last week or so, I'm just about finished and I'll be back to CoX soon so if I can be of any help my globals are @SkyRocker and @SkyRocker 2.0 (2 accounts), drop me a line. I have a few characters on Infinity, none over 15 I think.

Again, welcome and enjoy your stay!

Hello, and welcome back to our fantastic game!

I'll answer your questions based upon my point of view...

1. With power customization available now, and Going Rogue on the horizen, now is a better time than ever to play.

2. Infinity is a great server for everyone, whether it's solo, team, badging, whatever. It's an East Coast server with a decent sized population.

3. A /kin Corr is usually a highly sought after team player. I recommend putting "energy/kin" in your search comments. You should have very little problem getting on a team that way I also recommend the following tools to help you on your journey -

I'm available mostly red side @Thaumator if you ever need any ingame help.

I'm on Infinity also. The villain side (commonly referred to as the red side) is less populated than the hero (blue) side for various reasons, but I think it comes down to people like the flow of the blue side more. Personally I jump back and forth but usually have to solo much more on the red side. Plus with school going on, holidays, and new MMOs running, the population has dipped a bit lately. Also, the last issue they changed the way the teaming sk/lk system worked which made it easier to form teams so a lot of people are running more missions and aren't in the main world as much. I admit because of work I haven't been on as much but should be on some this weekend and will probably be on my mastermind. Look for the global name @aquajaws and hit me up. I'm always willing to team up.

Lythinian, you could also join some of the public channels. They can be found by using the TAB button next to your in game email ( then drop down to channel search ). Many people use channels to announce or join Task Forces or pickup teams.

Infinity Badges

Inf Badge Seeker

Infinity Hamidon

The 3 above are a few examples

Some more advice, since yes, things are slower than they used to be on Infinity (especially villainside):

The global channels are going to be a good resource for finding teams, as will your global friends list. Of the channels listed above, Infinity Badges is full so you won't be able to join it - there is an Infinity Badges 2.0 started that you can join that a lot of people from the original channel are switching to.

Many people look for pre-existing teams, and solo (or log off) if they don't find one. If you really want to team and can't find one, start one. Just keep in mind that if you're looking for (or trying to form) a team in broadcast or request, you won't be able to reach anyone that's not in the same zone you are - and if people are running missions they'll be in an instance most of the time. This is where those global channels come in handy - just shout out "level x-ish redside team (forming/lfm/etc)". If you want to be really nice, tell them what you're doing (ie, papers, arcs, a strike force(!), etc).

If redside is completely dead, you can head to the Rikti War Zone now even at level 1 and try to team with some heroes. This one's pretty much a last resort, though, since there's no guarantee that you'll be able to find a team there. But I have used it to team with friends who wanted to play villains when I wanted to play a hero I was working on (note that there's an AE building there, too, so you don't have to fight against just Rikti).

When you do get on teams with people you like and get along well with, add people to your friends list - and try the global friends list first (this way you can track people even on other characters/servers; the basic friends list is just for that specific character).

Check the forums for events that you'd be interested in. I can't make the Tuesday nights due to my class schedule, but Blood Spectre runs a Rogue Isles Legends villain team which is essentially just a planned, "lets get our villains and team together" night.

Blueside isn't horrible... but I like the villain ATs (in general) better than hero ATs: it was the devs second shot at designing things when they made CoV and with some tweaking recently on some of the "bleh" ATs the balance of fun vs frustration with all of the ATs seems a little nicer - you're not often thinking to yourself "just 20 more levels and this character will be playable" solely because of the AT you picked, anyway... that's more of a specific powerset issue (or just getting way too used to having a character with lots of IOs and Stamina, then going back to a blank slate). But if you can't ever find/form a team and everything you see in the global channels seems to be happening heroside, try making a hero... then convince the friends you make heroside to make villains to team with you (you did pick a Corruptor, after all).

Welcome to the game, and enjoy!
