ooh ooh!! I forgot one.
Don't make a name like " '4hzh,kav th3 xero.un0us" and expect ANYONE to reply or send tells to you. I know backspace works but only to the last person sending tells. If it seems you are being ignored, it was probably because of the name you chose.
Maybe this one is just me but if you have a name like "Evil God of Satan's Womb", don't expect me to even talk to you or give you the time of day. Hey, I'm a hero and I have my personal beliefs. I have the option to ignore you over just your name. -

if you say "no blind invites" you tend to get spammed with team invites a lot, lol. That should tell you something...
[/ QUOTE ]
That politely asking people to treat you in a nice and pleasant way is usually countered with interruptions and annoyances from other players?
There is a no-call list for telemarketers, but there is no way to block blind invites... until that day, they will be annoyances that players will have to deal with.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, sad but true. Advertising your pet peeves make people poke at the wound more.
Also, the no-call list thing is a joke. Asking to be taken off a list... puts you on a new list. A list of people who have good phone numbers. Same with emails that say "to be removed from this mailing list"... that means "please validate you have an active email account by clicking on this link". Only honorable people will honor rules.
You can't tell a bank robber that he can no longer use a gun when he robs banks and expect to be taken seriously.
It sucks, but putting "no blind invites" in your comment makes people blind invite you just because they want to show you that you have no actual power over them. It's a troll magnet and not effective to accomplish what we want it to do. I found that leaving the comment blank nets less blind invites, but who wants THAT? I like teams. -
Ok spamming any channel sucks, I think that pretty much gets agreement from everyone, including spammers themselves when they're not one doing it.
Activating MoG without warning? You're kidding right? that shouldn't effect anyone but the scrapper. The healer should be able to recognize it when it happens and not toss more than one heal their way till its over. Besides, if you were healing them they probably wouldn't have needed MoG. Also, usually the scrapper is scrapping for their life as well as yours when it gets activated, doubtful there is time to send even a quick memo to the group.
Blind group invites are good in my book. At times its hard enough to get a group in the first place. A lot of people are like me and pass right over people that are bitter to blind invites. To me and my friends if the comment says "no blind invites" what it really means is "I don't want to team with anyone". I also noticed something else strange... if you say "no blind invites" you tend to get spammed with team invites a lot, lol. That should tell you something...
Another one is team members that go afk immediately after entering the mission in the hopes that they can just safely sit there and suck up xp. I'm surprised they're that dumb as to think its not noticed. They get booted fast.
When someone dings in the middle of a fight and takes off to level up. And the fight is not over... and they're the healer! Then they complain that you kicked them off the team for no reason.
Someone that uses a friend list diligently as a contact list every time they log on and ask the same questions.
"r u there"
"u on a team"
"can I join yur team"
I can go on but I'm pretty long winded as you can see. -

Course, I get irritated at the kill stealing blaster.... hehe
[/ QUOTE ]
I think I've been domesticated enough to finally get over this part. In fact, my favorite team gets mad at ME for stealing all their kills. (as I don't require too much healing, and I seem to be the self appointed team guard dog, our empath is now attacking, and enjoying the utter lack of danger at times)
There's another important scrapper condition that some people put in the scrapperlock category but it is quite different. I call it Scrapper Zen but it will look more like a killing spree. You will feel like a small child holding the leash of a large dog as it drags you through a park. It is very similar in concept to the Dominators "domination" scale but its not a meter on the screen. It exists in the scrappers brain. Usually excitement, adrenaline, or pure survival kicks it on. This is when you see the most parts flying around the room, and it carries to the next room and the next, and the next, until the scrapper either dies or runs out of enemies. When a scrapper is truly in this zone, you really must let them go. Don't try and stop them or slow them down or even talk because they won't respond, or cannot respond due to the extreme timing of every single move, click, jump. You will probably witness the most intensive part of your game career during these times, and actually the safest because your scrapper is "in-tune" with everything around them that concerns the battle. RL means nothing, afk means you have been crossed off the list of immediate resources and liabilities as well. When scrappers fly into scrapper zen it probably means they have learned the strengths of their teammates and have already predicted the outcome, and really to a fine degree of accuracy if no one cries or gives up the fight. When Scrapper Zen is over (sometimes noted by death or lack of things to kill), there will always be a moment of silence to piece together everythign that just happened, before someone shouts "Woot! that was a rush!" -

PM'd Cuppa w/ this thread. As I said to her, I can live with defiance, but think it needs to be looked at given that some folks seem to get the boost when at 100% health, and some seem to get no boost when at very low hp. Probably way too many irons in the fire right now with I7 prep, but she did tell me that it was sent to QA, so we'll see
[/ QUOTE ]
While I do know that defiance is not an exact science like everyone wants it to be, I do feel it should work just a bit different to make up for the utter skishiness at higher levels.
The level of defiance should start rising sooner as hitpoints are lost. It works wonderful at levels below 20 but at higher levels defiance is really not very useful because of the speed and accuracy that damage is usually incoming. (usually if something is attacking you, it will finish you almost immediately)
At the higher levels, if a blaster is at half health, anythign can one shot it, including minions of the same level so you're gonna be lucky to get even one shot off during defiance. -
[ QUOTE ]
Defiance has been bugged since day 1. It has NEVER worked. But to realize that, the devs would have to play a blaster one single time. So far they have not.
[/ QUOTE ]
Get a grip. If a dev has ever played a blaster, and I'm positive they have, your allegations have zero credibility. Be careful using such dribble. thats not the way to sway opinion.
I've noticed that defiance works really really well, but don't expect it to be something you can exploit to be ub3r. (get over it, exploit does not automatically mean cheat, lol, look it up).
Defiance worked much better at lower levels when it would take more hits on you in order to put you down, giving you more time to lash out with more attacks under the influence of defiance. Quite deadly as I was one shotting enemies and surviving longer than I should have. In my 20's I noticed that while defiance still did what it was supposed to, I usually had less time to whoop out a can of pwnz because I'm more skishy to mobs of the same level. At level 1 you can take on something 2 levels higher and he will need a few shots to take you down. At level 28 you can take on something 2 levels higher and you will get one-shotted a lot. there's your difference. If you gained levels you gained experience didn't you? I'm not talking about the numbers, I'm talking about your knowledge. -

This is moderator power-abuse in it's most ugliest form if I've ever seen it.
Don't think I'm overreacting, because I'm not.
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps you're not 'overreacting' but you are putting way more drama into this than is necessary. First of all - how in all of God's green earth do you come to the conclusion that Cuppa is powertripping??????
I mean, that's a pretty aggressive accusation to make. I'll bet money that Cuppa is simply passing along the message - as this is probably a decision that has come from the higher-ups. And if that's the case, there is absolutely no need for people like you to be accusing CuppaJo of powertripping and being close-minded. They are simply doing their job and protecting their rights.
As for any one else not understanding how any of the mods can cause problems ... the simple fact is that if anything goes wrong with your game, who do you run to?? You run to the developers and expect them to help you ASAP in fixing your game. Now if your game is riddled with modifications you've been adding to your game ... do you still think it's their responsibility to fix your game?? In my opinion, they can't help you fix something that you've been secretly modifying from the beginning...
[/ QUOTE ]
Lol, thats the most amount of wisdom I've ever seen posted on this board at once. And the overreacting guy, yeah, definitely overreacting, and just using a cliche to try and counter the aluminum hat wearing "we're all gonna die" viewpoint. The decision to stop posts on this behavior is rather expected, I'm not sure why anyone in the first place thought it was cool to say "I hate fat people" when yer standing right in front of your fat mother.
They're basically saying "hey, you're not allowed to hack our program. But for cryin out loud, if you DO hack it, don't tell us, and don't tell other people RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!" If they allowed posts on hacks they lose credibility on their stance to uphold their Terms Of Service. -

Third of all, admonishments aside, I think these badges are now rigged so that you have to actually be doing something to earn them. (How exactly the game defines doing something, I don't know, and it's highly unlikely the devs will ever say.) Simply standing around inside a mission instance won't cut it. I've gotten that badge without a problem after having several lackeys and working on missions. In fact, I got one as soon as a week or so ago.
[/ QUOTE ]
Omg, I totally agree. basically he didn't get the badge because he didn't deserve it. The system seems to be working as intended. Some dev is laughing his silly head off right now because he uncovered a rather unsavory player. -
Ok, I don't know what APP is but I'm guessing its what everyone else has been calling the epic power pool.
I chose the focused accuracy and freaking laser beam mounted to my head. I slotted the accuracy with end reduction because it sucks endurance so heavily. (3 slots)
This is extremely useful because not only can you hit those pesky Rikti floating kodaks that bother everyone and kill your healers but you can also kill PP's right through MoG. Usually every hit will miss them but with this power on you may hit 3 out of 5 times. the damage is greatly decreased but you will kill them way before mog is due to wear off. I usually hit them for 15-25 damage and have had crits for double 38's.
I slotted the laser with one range, 2 damage and one end reduction. I may just make it 3 damage. I use it for:
1) Runners
2) Pulling
3) Target practice on low levels while standing around waiting for stuff to happen.
4) Looking cool when you are pwning mobs and have no danger of actually getting you or group hurt.
5) When I need an attack and all others have not recharged. (before that PP can MoG) -
As someone mentioned, the role that you fit in will depend on the powersets you select and how that benefits your strengths. But, an extreme negative effect which is related are "cookie-cutters". They've already decided (or rather they just looked at someone elses successful build), how they're going to make their ub3rl33t character, and then expect it to work in a way that compliments their behavior. This is bad and they're easy to spot in a group.
As you grow in levels (not powerleveling) you will take the powers that compliment your playstyle and roles defined above in the OP. Then by natural progression you will be a rather formidable foe because you adjusted your play to match your character abilities and not the other way around.
Another point involving the various roles is the makeup of the rest of the group. Since I'm a scrapper my role in a mostly ranged team is conservative and I'm more bodyguard than meatshield. (futile to chase enemies while they get knocked around and nuked, yer wasting your time). If the team has a tank though, I'm riding piggyback and dealing the damage he wishes he could. But always, if a surgical strike needs to be done, its me. Sappers are my specialty and I take them down without anyone losing end. -
There's really a very important aspect to pulling that I think was overlooked. The shot type is very important. Do not use powers that hit them immediately. Always use projectile type attacks that leave your hands, travel through the air, then hit the target. If you can back out of range before the attack hits the target you will always pull one mob. It seems their range of sight increases dramatically once damage is done within their immediate area. If you are within this range increase they will see you. If you are not, they will ignore you and only the guy you hit will come runnin. Once you fire, start backing up immediately, super speed helps, short attack animations help. Long attack animations will get you seen. Damage done to any mob will get them pinpointed on you so if you use a fireball that hits others, they will all come running.
I've got this down to a science and I can pull single mobs from the center of the group if I want to. And as stated in the OP, pick them carefully because some mobs watch over others. For example, if you want to pull that Paragon Protector, hit a minion somewhat close to him using my method. You will pull one minion but since the protector watches everyone he will come too but not alert the group. -
I see lots of unbalanced suggestions bent on revenge. Or as the media puts it nowadays "closure", "justice" lol we all know its just the revenging side of us that never understood what "sticks and stones" meant.
I think if TP Foe had a line of sight limitation, it couldn't be exploited quite the way it is now. that may even stop the cheaters TP'ing you into a room that has no exit, like is very common at the hero security gates. Yeah yeah so the drones don't see you, its not like they have sight any better than a streetlamp twilight switch. -
Well, in short, every team member must adapt their playstyle according to the makeup of the rest of the team. Some situations are more difficult. I have one example:
I'm a scrapper. The team had 2 defenders doing healing and the rest were ranged as well (blasters, controllers). So what we have is 7 ranged attackers and one melee. I found that I couldn't "go in" and attack or I wouldn't get heals. If I stayed with the ranged group (the whole team) I was not effective. they said, well just stay with us and if anything gets close to us, you can kill that. Ok, that made me feel like a "just stand there and look pretty" kind of thing because they are not using much of my potential.
They finally got a tanker on board and I stuck to the tankers back into the melee. Still, both healers stayed behind the squishies and the group died a lot. I told them, "hey, get one defender to tag the tank and keep him healed because if he lives, he will taunt, I will kill, and the rest of you will live a LOT longer. And dont worry about healing me, I'll do fine."
Well they eventually had both healers on the tank and I, the deaths stopped completely, and the squishes took almost no damage. And we proceeded to rock the house. the tanker thanked me cause he didn't think the group knew what they were doing, but was not going to beg or complain for heals either. -
omg, someone pegged us. it takes one to know one I figure. Is it psychotic to jump into a crowd you know you could handle if you just had one heal from the outside and scream "here I go, save me"?
Is it psychotic to say "my life for you" and really mean it?
Is it psychotic to get a tear in your eye when you have to part from a really really good team and say "it would have been a pleasure to die for you"?
This is all normal to me, I wouldn't have it any other way.
"my life for you, but if the line gets too long, yer going to the back of it"
