Scrapper APP's; A brief overview.

Cambios

I think each APP offers something to the Scrapper and which you get will depend mostly on your play style.

Body Mastery’s best offers are IMHO Conserve Energy, Focus Accuracy and Energy Torrent
Conserve Energy greatly reduces End costs for 90 seconds and with 6 Recharge reducers and Hasten I think has a recharge of 162 seconds.
Energy Torrents Knock Down can be a useful opening to set up your attack on a pack of mobs and can be used to break up incoming damage a bit.
Focus Accuracy will let you replace an Acc in your attacks, saving you a slot or letting you do a bit more Damage or slot an End reducer.

Body Mastery’s powers will require some slotting.
If you want to use Conserve Energy as a regular tactic then you will need to slot a lot of Recharge reducers in it.
Focus Accuracy, by reports, uses a huge amount of End so 3 End reducers are probably not too much.
Laser Eye Beams like any attack to get decent performance requires slotting, I try to get at least 4 slots in any attack I want to use seriously. As far as I can tell the Def Debuff is fairly small, unfortunately probably not worth slotting for.
Energy Torrent. Well one reason is that you might be using an only slightly slotted attack is for it’s secondary effects. If you are using Energy Torrent mainly for the Knock Down I’d still go for an Acc and maybe a Cone Range Enh.

Darkness Mastery is the only APP I have tried out to any extent. Petrifying Gaze and Tenebrous Tentacles look good and Dark Blast is a solid dependable attack that fitted straight into my single target attack cycle.
Petrifying Gaze will let you Hold a single Minion or LT. This can remove a seriously annoying mob like a Sapper from the fight. For DA and SR scrappers it can also reduce the variety of damage or attack types you might be facing.
Tenebrous Tentacles is a Moderate Damage Cone, with an Acc Debuff and Immobilise, all good. Although it is a DoT it is another moderate AE for scrappers lacking in AE damage. TT also has a very cool graphic.
Torrent is not quite as useful as Energy Torrent as it Knocks Back rather than Down, but you could use it to sweep mobs up against a wall for maximum AE carnage.

Darkness Mastery will require some slotting.
Petrifying Gaze has a much shorter duration and longer recharge than the Defender version. If you want to get any Hold on a Boss you will have to slot very heavily. IMHO it is probably worth 2 or 3, I will be going for an Acc and two Hold durations.
Torrent’s low damage makes it a poor choice for slotting Damage Enh. If you are going for the Knock Back effect an Acc and a Cone Range are probably worth while, that’s about it.
Dark Blast slot like any other attack you would take.
Tenebrous Tentacles I’d give at least an Acc and a Cone Range Enh. It’s Moderate Damage should give you a decent return for Damage Enh if you can spare the slots.

Weapon Mastery’s Exploding Shuriken is probably it’s pick, although Caltrops can be useful too.
Exploding Shuriken is a Moderate Damage AE; another solid AE attack to add to any scrapper’s arsenal.
Caltrops, well there is a reason they are still used. Drop it on some mobs they will be slowed and will spend some time trying to get off the Caltrops. The damage is a bonus.
Shuriken seems mainly good for pulling, at this point in your career a fast recharging minor damage attack is probably not much use.
Web Grenade is good for stopping runners, bringing Flyers down to earth and it has a very solid Recharge debuff.

Weapon Mastery’s attacks will require slotting.
Web Grenade is pretty good right out of the box. Slot an Acc in the slot it comes with, nothing else about it is really worth Enhancing.
Caltrops also are pretty good as is. I’d go for Slow over Damage as the Damage is small and if you Slow them more the mobs will stay in the AE longer.
Shuriken, low damage won’t give you a good return for slots, put an Acc in the slot it comes with and leave it.
Exploding Shuriken, if you have taken this then you should be pursuing an AE Alpha-Volley strategy, so slot it up for all it is worth. I’d go an Acc and 3 Damage.

Which APP is for you?

If you like the powers that you have and just want them to be more accurate and cost less End then Body Mastery is for you. Also shooting Lasers from your eyes is cool.

If you are looking for a solid AE attack and maybe a couple of utility abilities or have a ninja or natural shtick you want to keep then Weaponry might be for you.

If you are a Darkon Darkity Mc Dark or see the value of a single target hold or have a fetish about tentacles then Dark Mastery might be for you.

Petrifying Gaze
Animation: ~2 seconds
Recharge: 30 seconds
Duration: 15 seconds

1 -Recharge SO (no Hasten): -7.5 seconds of Recharge
2 -Recharge SO (no Hasten): -12 seconds of Recharge
Hasten (only): -12.35 second of Recharge
+Hold SO: +5 seconds of Hold Duration

Recommended Slotting (without Hasten):
2 +Accuracy SO (because missing SUCKETH!)
1 -Recharge SO
3 +Hold SO

Recommended Slotting (with Hasten):
2 +Accuracy SO (because missing SUCKETH!)
3 +Hold SO

You'll want the "extra" Duration versus Orange/Red/Purple Mobs to offset the Duration Penalty applied when fighting higher level Mobs.

Welcome to Perma-Gaze.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Screwloose (or anyone else in the know),

You wouldn't happen to have the I5 numbers for the duration and recharge of Petrifying Gaze and Tenebrous Tentacles, would you?

I'm trying to determine if Pet. Gaze in particular still has the utility to make it worth taking.

Thanks in advance!

The update data file for one hero planner (Link in this thread) has the numbers as follows.

Pet Gaze

Activation 2
END 11.5
Duration 10
Recharge 8
Range 70

Tenebrous Tentacles

Activation 2
END 15
Duration 20
Recharge 10
Range 30

If you put 2 Hold Dur in Pet Gaze and have Hasten that would give you a Duration of over 16 seconds and a Recharge of under 5, which could allow you to Perma Hold a Boss, although you wouldn't be doing much else.

Pet Gaze won't let you park an LT and finish the rest of the Spawn like Touch of Fear will, but it will freeze a minion or LT long enough for you to do him a heap of damage before he gets to take any actions.

With perma-haste Laser Beam Eyes recharges in about 3.5 seconds, Energy Torrent recharges in about 11 seconds.

I think the Brawl Index is 2.7 on Energy Torrent

Has anyone written an updated guide for Scrapper APP powers post ED and 1.6?

What's to know?

You can't Perma anything and don't slot any power with more than 3 of the same type of Enh.

IMHO ED/I6 won't change the APP that you might have wanted to take and it won't change the powers that you select and it pretty much won't change the way that you slot them.

Did you have some specific power that you were wondering what might have changed because of ED.

ED changes how you play your character quite profoundly, and it certainly affects some of these abilities quite significantly. For example, not being able to perma-hasten and 6 slot conserve power changes that ability significantly.

Also, I was hoping that perhaps someone had worked up a guide that was a bit more organized, more neatly formatted, and had some more serious analysis of how well the abilities work in actual practice, rather than just describing what the abilities are (most of that information is already built into a good character builder now anyway).

The first post was a good start, please don't think I am criticising it. But it was made MANY months ago, and there have been major changes to the game as well as a lot of time for people's real experiences with the abilities to be applied.

Ok, I don't know what APP is but I'm guessing its what everyone else has been calling the epic power pool.

I chose the focused accuracy and freaking laser beam mounted to my head. I slotted the accuracy with end reduction because it sucks endurance so heavily. (3 slots)
This is extremely useful because not only can you hit those pesky Rikti floating kodaks that bother everyone and kill your healers but you can also kill PP's right through MoG. Usually every hit will miss them but with this power on you may hit 3 out of 5 times. the damage is greatly decreased but you will kill them way before mog is due to wear off. I usually hit them for 15-25 damage and have had crits for double 38's.

I slotted the laser with one range, 2 damage and one end reduction. I may just make it 3 damage. I use it for:

1) Runners
2) Pulling
3) Target practice on low levels while standing around waiting for stuff to happen.
4) Looking cool when you are pwning mobs and have no danger of actually getting you or group hurt.
5) When I need an attack and all others have not recharged. (before that PP can MoG)

One thing: Dark Scrapper powers are NOT the same as the same-named Dark Defender powers. I don't remember the exact timing, but Petrifying Gaze lasted about 8 seconds and recharged in about 25 when I timed it, some eight months ago.

Also, I think the Blast times may be slower as well.

Last, I would point out that everything in the Dark set (and probably ALL sets) causes sword redrawing. Dark Melee and MA can just throw these attacks into the chain, but everyone else. .. not so much.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

I believe spines does not have to redraw either. Spines are not a weapon per-se as far as any drawing animation.

ED still sucks.

Yup.

Heh NP mate, sorry I snapped, but there are some things that just push my buttons and sometimes I forget that others want different info than I feel the need for.

I agree that ED has significantly changed many powers and powersets, but IMHO the Scrapper APP’s are sufficiently different in what they offer that a thematic rather than a numerical analysis is sufficient to let me make a decision as to which is right for me.

To get significant results from any power, APPs included, you generally need to slot them strongly. In some ways ED has simplified this as it lays out a boundary past which there is little point trying to push.

If you are looking at two powersets that are functionally very similar, say Katana and Martial Arts, then some numerical analysis might be useful in helping you decide between them. For some other AT’s even the APPs fall into this. Some Tanker and Blaster APPs are basically 3 of the same 4 powers with different FX renamed and one different power that isn’t too different.

With the Scrapper APPs we don’t have the multiple redundant copies of the power combinations we only have the 3 most significantly different versions of the APPs. If you look at what each APP does for you then IMHO how much it does it is less of a factor in whether you would take it or not.

If you are the sort of person who wants More End Reduction then how much damage Exploding Shuriken does or how long Petrifying Gaze holds is irrelevant as Conserve Power will almost 100% make you take Body Mastery.

If you are a PvP enthusiast then Focused Accuracy probably ensures you will take Body Mastery as well.

Dark and Weaponry both have useful Control effects and additional Ranged and AE damage which give additional tactical flexibility to those who get fun from that aspect of Scrapping.

I would say this is why there is little analysis of the different APPs for Scrappers. For most people the powers of each APP give such a different outcome that to be desirable the powers of a different APP would have to be vastly overpowered and even then some people would still pine for their FA and CP while they used a Mag 20 Hold.
