Do people really believe that several thousand people paid $10 per toon to transfer to Freedom and that all of them are currently playing right now filling up the expanded server capacity?
Yeah, blame server transfers.
The NSCoft rep has told you all what has happened: In previous 2xXP weekends, Freedom had hit a game engine cap. The server ground down, people were being disconnected, and others stopped playing because they couldn't endure the lag and rubberbanding. When such things happen, the server itself crashes and everyone is kicked off. Those who were dedicated enough logged back on, the rest stopped playing in disgust. That's how the game used to be capped.
Now, the engine can handle more people. And rather than stressing the engine and ruining everyone's experience and letting the grinding down and disconnects and disgust and crash cap the population, they are capping the population before service degenerates that badly.
If they didn't do this, you would still be able to log on to a lagfest that would eventually boot you anyway. -

Just posting to let everyone know that I am still making more fixes and consistency changes, and also to bump this thread to keep it from getting purged.

Create a support thread in the Player Guides sections. Almost all the other 3rd party apps have a thread there and that forum is exempt from auto-purges. -

amid all the doom crying, one thing has been overlooked.
they don't *have* to do these double Xp weekends for us.
[/ QUOTE ]
by the same token, I never asked them to do a double XP weekend or any other event that could prevent me from playing.
Yes, I can make an alt on another sever...
[/ QUOTE ]
Therefore, no denial of service, no grounds for compensation.
Locking a server is not 'selectivity' on the part of NCSoft, no matter how many times you claim it is. They are not 'selecting' who gets in and who doesn't. They are reserving the option of locking the log in for *anyone* (not a select crowd) who will try to enter. It's not like they're choosing to keep out players of a certain age or gender or race or obliviousness to reality.
If they don't lock a server that's at max capacity, the play experience will start grinding to a halt, you'll have numerous mapserves and disconnects (yes the overloaded game engine is kicking you off... how's that for 'selectiviity'?), and eventually it will crash, kicking everone off and being unavailable for everyone from, judging by past experience, 10 minutes to 2 hours.
I remember the peak days of CoH when servers regularly hit the red zones during peak hours. The servers did grind down, become erratic, and eventually crashed.
A lock down before that happens is the most sane thing the devs could do. And with the server upgrades, the servers can handle more than they ever could before.
In other words: THERE WAS ALWAYS AN UPPER LIMIT OF HOW MANY COULD LOG ON TO A SERVER. THAT UPPER LIMIT IS EXPANDED NOW, AND IT WILL BE HARD-CAPPPED BEFORE THE SERVERS CRASH.
This is a win-win for everyone. -

Wow, this is worse than getting "teh mad lag", turning customers AWAY?
REALLY?
This is what it's come down to now?
[/ QUOTE ]
Ummmmmmmm.......
If you can't log onto Freedom or Virtue, then there will probably be six other servers available to play on. You are not being turned away, so cut the drama.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm being turned away from servers with characters that I wish to get double XP on. So yes, I am being turned away. Rolling up a level 1 on some craphole server I have no interest in playing on is not a substitute, they may as well ask me to go play a different game altogether.
OH WAIT, that's -exactly- what's happening when the server gets "locked".
And if you think my previous post is drama, you clearly need to watch more Dynasty, bud. But by all means, keep brown-nosing, I'm sure that custom forum title is just round the corner.
Oh wait, you already have one, NEVERMIND.
[/ QUOTE ]
lol. I'm a brown-noser!
You missed the part above where I criticized them for a late notice of a policy change. And you're not familiar with all the other critical posts I've made of the game or the Dev's policies.
I criticize the Devs when they're being unreasonable and I criticize players when they're being unreasonable, like the way you are right now. So apparently, everything in your world is black and white or all-or-nothing. If you can't play on one particular server you are BEING TURNED AWAY!!! If someone criticizes your complaint, THEY ARE A BROWN NOSER!!! If you can't get a booth in a restaurant but only a table, THEY ARE TRYING TO STARVE YOU TO DEATH!!! -

With that in mind, we want to let you know that it may become necessary for us to lock servers should they reach player counts that result in a degradation in performance.
[/ QUOTE ]
Honestly? I hope this happens ... because then, that event can be pointed at the next time someone complains about dead servers, and asks for server mergers.
[/ QUOTE ]
What will you point to if the two busiest servers get greyed out (which is to be expected), yet the servers people complain about being dead still only have one light?
[/ QUOTE ]
That you don't have access to their internal numbers and you can't go by the server load icons?
Last 2xXP weekend, every server had two yellow icons while F&V had three red. If many of them only have one green icon this weekend, that could just mean the new server load capacity has increased, not necessarily that there are less players.
True story: In the early days of CoH, when I saw three red icons, I thought that meant the server was unavailable (and not just under heavy load) and didn't log it. -
[ QUOTE ]
So in other words Lighthouse your admitting that your server upgrades were not adequate.
[/ QUOTE ]
A restaurant can add a new wing, and be serving 100% more customers, but if 120% more show up, then there are simply no more seats for that extra 20%.
The servers are supposed to be able to handle *more* players, not infinitely more. No server upgrade will ever be adequate for infinite players. We're being warned that the new upgrades have not been stressed tested to their max yet. They may handle everything well without a hiccup. Or they may blow up. The new lock down policy is to keep them from blowing up. -
[ QUOTE ]
Uhhhhh.... yeah. Can't say what I want to say, the long and abusive string of obscene epithets would violate forum rules. So I'll just say that if I get locked out of Virtue this weekend, I will be deeply angry. I mean truly enraged. Locking me out of the only server I can stand to play on during double-XP weekend would tick me off more than any MMO company has ticked me off since a long-ago incident involving Funcom and Anarchy Online, more than what Sony did to SWG ticked me off. No, really; it had better not come to this.
[/ QUOTE ]
1. I sense anger in you.
2. What would you have them do... what they've done in the past? Which is to let the load degrade the performance until there was huge amount of server lag no matter where in the game you played? That doesn't make you angry? Or to let the load cause continual disconnects and mapserves and bring the server down completely (as what used to happen on Virtue every Sunday night)? That doesn't make you angry?
Yes, it would have been nice to have had better warning for this policy change in how unusually large server loads are handled, but it's a sane policy. If it had been around since the beginning, everyone would have had a secondary server home and not though twice about it.
In fact, I already created a secondary server home because of the frequency of the shut downs of the West Coast Servers. I chose a medium load East Coast Server, so, for me, if Virtue is locked down, I have a place to go. -

Really.
It's true.

He appears again in the Easter Egg room in the revised Faultline: Mike and Melissa (aka, War Witch) are hanging out in that room. I'm 99% positive he came over to NCNC with the IP buyout: Dev Tracker.
And I request that the Grandville Easter Egg room be reverted to it's pre-trashed form. The unexplained trashing of it leaves a bad taste in my mouth as I suspect that the devs who put it there were 'punished' for doing so. -

Secondly, don't let your title get to you, because hoenstly we are paying customers, so therefore, we have every right to speak freely, as we are not "harassing" her, jut stating that this would belong in a better section.

*You* may not be harassing, but that doesn't preclude others from having that intent, spilling over from other discussions from other fora. As to whether it belongs in this forum....
[ QUOTE ]
Oh yeah this forum would be really great if it had a bazillion of builds with a few actual guides in between.
[/ QUOTE ]
And yet, in fact, that's the situation here. There are many example builds here in this forum without much in the way of being 'guidey'. Don't tell me that the over 4k threads here are all 'guides' in the formal sense of the word, cause they're not. If you're going to pick on this 'build' as not being worthy of this forum, then go through the thousands of other such threads and flag them for Ex Libris to move them out of this forum into a more appropriate one.
The fact is, I've asked Perfect Pain to see her build on another forum, and it's nice to know it's here where it won't get purged, as it would if it were in one of the AT fora. That's why this forum is unique, to keep guides, builds, fact sheets, spread sheets, data compilations, pointers to off-site 3rd party software and websites from scrolling off the forum. The Guide to Player Guides that I edit has a lot more in it that what you're defining as a "Guide". And that tradition was set not by me but by CuppaJo, and the current form has had the eyes of the current Community Reps. If only formal guides were supposed to be in this forum, then all those non-formal guides would have been purged by the powers that be.
It's more than just a "Formal Guide" section. Always has been, and I can pretty much guarantee always will be.
And if you disagree with that, then PM Ex Libris right now to get this thread moved out of Player Guides because neither P_P nor myself nor you can do it. Go ahead. -

The only problem I see is that if the enemies survive, they can hit you instantly. Super ultra amazing chocolatety flavored awesome range doesn't matter if the enemy has the same, or better, range.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless you three slot Moonbeam or Psionic Lance for range (base 175 feet), then, in that case, there will be literally only a handful of foes that can snipe back at that range. Moonbeam's range is so long, that you can snipe from outside agro response range for some critters. You know that range -- when you hit a foe and run and when you get far enough away, they stop chasing you... well, you can snipe from *that range* on a critter and it won't come looking for you because you're outside it's awareness range. -

Don't ever tell a Regen, "I'll rez you." They don't need your rez. Especially don't ever tell them that your rez is recharging.

<Psst. Leandro... it's a joke. You're not getting it. You don't have to defend empaths from regens since the whole point of the thread is to poke good natured fun at the attitude of regens.> -

like the regen that jumped into that pack of alpha right?

That's why Regen has a self-rez. We are not afraid of death. Death for a Regen is just an easy way to clear debuff status effects like -ACC.
Don't ever tell a Regen, "I'll rez you." They don't need your rez. Especially don't ever tell them that your rez is recharging. They'll hate you for suggesting that death is something that will slow down the game for you.
BTW, this thread will never die and doesn't need to be bumped. It's archived in this Guide forum. All threads are flagged not to be aged out. In many ways, this thread *is* *Regen*! -

The Hive is a level 45-50 trial zone.
Since the very large DE Monsters and the Mitos are internally mechanically level 50 AVs, it's good to get a sidekick to participate if you want to do appreciable damage. Buffers can slide by staying 45-47. There are *plenty* of 50s who attend who can mentor. -
To All:
Except in the actual Guide to Guides thread, I don't ever trot out my forum title, mostly because it's meaningless, however, as the Editor to the Guide to Guides and working with the community reps in keeping this forum (Player Guides) in order, let me assure everyone:
A sample build such as this belongs in the Player Guides sections (where it currently is, i.e., here).
Period.
No need to take personal hostilities against the OP and try to take away her right to post her sample build in this forum just as thousands of others have.
So, back off from that train of discussion. Don't let the word "Guide" become too narrowly defined. It's a more generic term.
Discuss the merits of the build for which it is being used or don't post anything at all. This is not a free for all section of the boards. -
This is a good start, but it's not telling us much more about the mechanics of the new defiance than the patch notes already told us (or the in-game description). Could you gather the numbers of the bonuses that were posted (hopefully, the recent forum purge didn't take them).
And there's not a lot in the guide in telling us how to leverage the new defiance with game-play tactics, and what's there is limited to fire.
You certainly have more, though, than what ParagonWiki has. This does need a comprehensive treatment.
