Quote:Scrappers cant match the shear awesomeness of a Fire/Fire blaster on a rampageWait, damage is a hard control? Doesn't that mean every Scrapper set has hard control then? Because no Scrapper set lacks in damage output.

And yes, actually, the Scrappers main 'control' is killing stuff fast.

HOWEVER, artistic liscence shouldn't be ignored. I am entirely in favour of modifying the CoH lore, heavily if need be, to create a suitable movie. What I would personally love to see is a movie with Lord Recluse as the main baddy, mostly because I want to see big fight, acted or with CGI, between States and Reccy, and, I dunno, focus what it means to be a hero in a modern age or some philosophical stuff like that. We can work the details out later.
I suppose it would go similarly to what Blpup said: Have a montage of Marcus Cole's and Stefan Richter's life pre-super powers, y'know, WWI (maybe retcon to WWII to make Marcus seem more contemporary to the audience?), Marcus poisoned, finding the Well of Furies, etc etc.
No, no, NO, no, NO NO NO!
For the love of all thats holy, what the freaking hell is up with people who emply ******* 'Artisitc Liscence'? I'm an artist, that doesnt mean I run roughshod over perfectly good stories, ideas and character histories.
Artistic liscence is EXACTLY the sort of junk that takes great books, great stories and the like and murders, rapes and fouls them on the big screen. Yes, this is a major, major issue for me, given what I study and what my field is (Art and writing, mostly)
'Artistic liscence' is what was used on the 'Golden Compass'...I mean, for pity sakes its the Northern Lights! It was a great book, with an interesting plot and some really, really well made bits. But no, It got the once over for the movies, making it all twee, sparkly and kiddy friendly...
Bayformers is another one, with a great backstory and years of awesome material discarded in one swoop by a man fixated with T&A and explosions and awful camera angles, who wouldnt know plot if it jumped up and bit him in the face.
'Artistic liscence' is the cause for all the gung-ho, trampling all over history war films, the stupid, implausible sci-fi's that dont even attempt to make sense.
When you look at films like 300, for example, which stuck like glue to the source material. Lord of the Rings was very close, for the most part. I can't really think of any others right now that were based on things, but the ones that stuck close to the source material are, invariably, better. Batman Begins, Dark Knight, two more. Slight changes, sure, but they had all the old elements, all the old enemies, the things that made Batman Batman.

This tends to be the same, every single Issue. Server stability gets shot down in flames, until it eventually stabilises again.
This is EU side, mind. But its regular as nemesis automatons =P -
A full on version of 'Incarnate' would be pretty cool =P
Less focus on the Phalanx might well be a good thing. And yes, dont, for the love of all thats holy in cinematography, DONT let Bay direct it. Dont let Bay into the same COUNTRy its being filmed in...
And either get someone like Weta to do it if it was live action, as they know how to pull that off without looking pants (Weta/Newline) or do it full CGI, a la Advent Children. -
Quote:Apart from the nearing a years worth of work just to GIVE us the option of power customisation?Wow... I dont feel quite as bad now. It looks like they issued a half issue at best then.
I want my bots to be customisable too. But Id rather BaBs did as good a job as he did with all the other powers that DID get it this issue, so that Bots look just as awesome.
Belittle not that which is made of win. And required so much work. -

Ye gods almighty I though this level of 'Pure Daft' was illegal...
WHY are you trying to solo with defenders on harder diffs? Sure, you can pull it off on some sets and slottings, but thats NOT what they were designed for.
Quote:I...buh...th....My em/stone tanker has much better mitigation than my emp/nrg defender. My tanker can stack stuns till tuesday and my defender has a on/off kb to rely on. Not even close. i dont consider super hero/hero support to be even close to balanced. I guess we should all just run scrappers and we should be fine. Btw, doms have fine mitigation in all the controls they pffer. Why should domination offer mez protection? cant they just use tactics to mitigate?
Words fail me.
Defenders and Tankers are BOTH support classes. They both have middle range damage, with the fenders having ranged attacks over melee. The Tankers whole POINT is to sit and absorb stupid ammounts of damage. And, yes, mezz protection. Their job is to KEEP all that Mezz OFF the rest of the team. Thats the whole point. Scrappers are the same, although to a lesser degree, and that lesser degree is countered by increased damage output.
Blasters have the longest ranged and most damaging attacks, and they practically DO have mez protection thanks to Defiance nowadays. The mitigation there is being able to slap a mob through the wall before it knows what the hell just happened.
Controllers have their own mezzes, and if you DON'T use them to render-helpess things that can mezz you back then thats entirely your own fault.
Kheldians have been covered. Multiple times.
Over onto Redside now.
MMs. Don't need it. Pets make shear mincemeat out of anything, unless the player hsa really got in over their head, in which that is again their fault.
Corruptors. See Defenders, although reverse the damage and buffing. They are still a support class, and do their jobs very well.
Dominators, see Controllers. Neutralise them, pulverise them, rinse and repeat.
Brutes and Stalkers are similar to Tankers and Scrappers, at least in the way of defences. They are the primary damage dealers, they are in the thick of it and in melee range, ergo they need some level of protection.
VEATs are covered.
It bears repeating.Quote:Do I hate being mezz'd? Sure. I have learned to use the tools and options available to me within the game to minimize the effects.
And if you want to -rep me for stating the obvious, at least have the guts to say it out loud, hmm? -

Wow, thats a daaaaamn big popsicle
Although I do notice a team-mate there. Elec/something, though, not sure it there would be a hold to stack.
Myself? My Bots/Traps duoed Positron with a friend, also on Bots/Traps. Great fun. So much explosives ^^
My indesctructable invul/em tank is good fun, too, while my DB/DA Brute makes me focus so much on hittingBROOTSMARSH! that its unbelievable.
I like all my builds. None of them are really weak, which I think is the beauty of CityOf. Your always good at something. -
The Fir Bolg mission is indeed a kill all, WHILE stopping 30 of the little squash-based sods getting through that damn gate. Duo-ed it on an emapth/psi defender (argharghargh) with a scrapper (arghARGHargh) and we only managed it because of his fast killing and my ludicrously long ranged psi dart, snipe and the aggro magnet of psionic scream. If you can aggro them, they pause to attack you, but you have to keep them aggroed.
As for Faultline...the tunnel missions make me see red. Badly marked is really badly marked. There should at least be markers for the entrances to the tunnels, but thats just me. I dont mind hard (It sometimes gives me cramp, but hey ho
) but I do object to not being able to even get to the mission.

Quote:This ^What I have gotten out of this from the pro mez protection side of the argument is that being able to be killed is not fun.
What you have been saying, in a nutshell, is that the game is not fun if you cannot ignore the abilities of your enemies and lay waste to them at will.
Mag 3 mez protection will allow you to ignore 85-90% of the mezzes in the game that you will encounter while solo on standard difficulty. Standard difficulty is what the game is balanced around and always has been balanced around. If you cannot handle the mezzing capabilities of a mob at that difficulty without the ability to just ignore it, then, yes, you ARE doing something wrong.
"But, I just don't feel HEROIC getting mezzed all the time!" is one of the more common arguments I hear. Ever read a comic book? At all? The characters in them get mezzed all the frigging time. If they didn't, and nothing was ever a threat to them, it would be a boring comic book to read wouldn't it?
Take Superman as a prime example, would you have any interest in his adventures if he was beating down common street thugs in every issue?
Doubtful.
Why? Because the outcome is a foregone conclusion. There is no way in hell a group of common thugs with pistols is EVER going to pose a credible threat to him. That's why he takes on worldwide threats and things that can crush buildings by sneezing, because there is the possibility that he might fail at the task at hand. An outcome that is not certain retains interest much better than reading about how this indestructible guy pummeled a car theft ring.
All comic books are written with the same theory in mind. They can't make the title character too powerful or it gets boring fast. Threats are kept appropriate to the power levels of the character.
In this game, Statesman would be our Superman. The Freedom Phalanx are the heroes in the world everyone looks up to, the JLA or Avengers of this world.
We, the player characters, are more like the New Warriors, untested, inexperienced. Not NEARLY the same power level as the world saving heroes of this universe.
Okay, say you're a defender who uses a bow and arrow, otherwise a normal human. You're trying to tell me that a standard flash-bang grenade should have no effect on you?
A controller is not a physical fighter, it makes perfect sense that being punched by an energy wielder or super strong character would stun them. Imagine if someone were to hit YOU in the head with a hammer, would you be able to just shrug it off? Again, doubtful.
If Cyclops gets punched by Juggernaut, hell yeah he's gonna be stunned, if not out cold. Aside from his optic blast he has no physical abilities outside of human norms.
Being vulnerable to mez is what makes comic book characters interesting. How are they going to defeat an opponent that can disable them? What if they don't win?
I'm sorry, but I find anything where the main character is never in any danger and always wins boring. If you know he's going to win, why bother reading it at all?
Same goes for my video games, if there's not a significant possibility of me not succeeding at something, I lose interest very quickly.
It's partially the result of the society we live in nowadays, where no child is allowed to fail a grade at school because it would "damage their self esteem". In childhood contests of any kind, even last place gets a ribbon, the "everyone's a winner" mentality.
People growing up in this society are not accustomed to the possibility of failure at something. They assume that if they cannot win, it is the fault of whatever it is they are attempting and not a flaw in themselves, because they have been conditioned their whole life to assume that victory is a given, and should be taken for granted.
I see quite a bit of that mentality in this thread.
/golfclap to whoever left the -rep comment. Lot's of people find it funny, actually. Maybe you just don't like people disagreeing with you?
Either way, if the devs ever say 'Oh, no, your right, lets give people mag 3 mezz resist' I will personally eat one of my hats. Or at least buy one to eat.
(I might marinade it first, or at least add some seasoning
)

Quote:Emphasis: MineI actually agree with Nethergoat here. I think it's silly to pre-judge someone based on their experience. Yeah, this guy might have been playing longer than that guy, but that doesn't mean he's learned anything in that time, and it doesn't mean the other guy isn't willing to learn some new things.
Some of the coolest people you'll meet and play with in an MMO are newer people, and some of the most obnoxious are the vets who think they're hot stuff when they're not.
I was searching for people to fill in on a team and someone actually had in their search comment: "57 month vet--no blind invites--You better know your **** if you invite me cuz I know I'm good". Yeah, he didn't get a whisper from me asking to team...
Personally, to me attitude is more important than playing ability. Even if you're the greatest player ever if your attitude sucks I won't really wanna play with you.

I personally think I16 meant they did more. They did an excellent job!
My son and I team, where he is by now probably on his 87th character (altoholic much?) so he never really gets into higher levels. He can now team with me and be alted 49 everywhere in zone. We can run his contacts without trouble, the team just resets to his level then.
Devs deserve a holiday. After GR though
