Trollers who are pure PvP skip AoE holds.
[/ QUOTE ]
I generally skip them anyway, but that's just me. The Earth AoE hold might be the exception to the rule for PvP, given how it works.
[/ QUOTE ]
Volcanic Gasses is actually pretty pants in PvP. Tested it in the arena and had a blaster run across it 7 times before he was held...simply not good enough
If your opponents where standing still maybe... -
I will probably be a tad late for the raid 'cos of RL. Send your PA dropping tells to Imaginary since he will take over the job as leader of the Illusion team(s)
(will probably be 30 mins late or around that ) -

..I hate the idea of mez protection for squishies...

Yes, I see your point...I just love to lie on my back all the time unable to do anything while my team gets killed...come to think of it...maybe I shouldn't get any powers to make me better at what I do -

Don't get Repel. All the other powers has uses.
Repel is a fun power just to run through mobs in Perez Park and see 'em bounce all over the place but overall pretty useless + as stated before you can always just go stand in your sing if you need the melee protection.
[/ QUOTE ]
Was playing in Sirens last night and repel was pretty useful (had got it on a respec just to see how good it would be in PvP). It prevented me getting ASed which is always nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats true...forgot that one. But it has to be said that it's basically the only use for it.
In PvE theres no real point in taking it, 'cept maybe as a panicbutton but i would still recommend the other powers over it everytime. -

Hey Prox
You should definately get it!
You won't have much use for it before Freezing Rain since it basically draws aggro, but the sweet thing here is the synergy between Grav and Storm
Most AoE immobs have - knockdown/back for 10 secs after applying thus negating Freezing Rain but the Grav immob doesn't!! : This basically means you will debuff the mobs, knock them down and set up containment...its a must take power IMO....just not instantly.
+ you can use it with Wormhole to do a makeshift hold -
Yup, we're leveling up new toons and if we had a full team we would've been there but we needed a scrapper or tank and seeing we couldn't get one we've been leveling instead.
This is not intended to get "the perfect team" but more to have more options between ATs so we can just switch between them if need be.
I sincerely hope more from Defiant will join in the fun since it's really good fun and very good PvP practice.
Don't be afraid to turn up. If you got questions about builds, powers, tactics etc I'm sure all are willing to help...if not to fight then just log on to watch a bit and see whats happening -

except the DoT from fire cages and hot feet after fulcrum shift and containment....believe me fire/kin does the most dmg in the game by a long way
[/ QUOTE ]
I never said it didn't - it's just not the safest way to go about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
i seem to cope fine with it
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, and I cheat. I actually have dedicated buffers for my fire/storm. Me and an empath can pretty much clear anything. If I dont hold it, I just tank it.
I play my troller as an AoE blaster with great single target damage if you throw in lightning storm and tornado.
The best illustration of this is actually an AV fight. My team when in. They were 4 Iirc. 1 earth/kin, 1 stone tank, 1 emp and 1 more. They couldnt dent the AV at all.
I was afk due to RL issues, and when I came back after they had fought it for 10 mins. We arrested the AV in 20-30 secs.
[/ QUOTE ]
tis true....and the 4th was a DA/Inv scrapper -

6 slot PAs as soon as you can (either 2 recharge, 1 acc and 2 dmg or 3 recharge and 3 dmg)...its the best power in illusion.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would always recommend slotting 3 recharges in PA before damage or accuracy. I use mine 1 acc 2 dmg 3 rchg since their main task is really to hold aggro, more than to inflict damage.
[/ QUOTE ]
whoops...typo on my part....that first bit was of course supposed to be 3 recharges and not 2 -
Get CJ instead.
If you want dmg at the lowlvls theres a few things you can do.
* Slot single immob for dmg (may want to respec this out later?)
* Pick up AS for dmg...it gives some makeshift control aswell with the knockdown and descent dmg (should also consider respec'in this out later)
* Slot your hold for dmg and not hold duration (change slotting later)
..or simply do as Nightbringer said...play like a defender -
hmm, a thing like this could actually make me wanna play CoV again...

I read that the hami-tank was a real tanker though? We have been using regen scrappers.. Dunno why its needed though..I think two empaths could keep a normal tank alive in there. And it might be safer having a real tank doing taunting for precisely this reason.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nightbringer will be using his Invul/EM tank Novocaine and not his MA/Regen scrap -
The monday night rumbles on Test is getting bigger and bigger apart from on thing: We only have 1 team from Defiant!!
This team consists of players from the Paragon Defenders and Inner Monkey SGs and even we have a bit of trouble mustering up a good team on some days.
Can it really be that we're the only ones who wants to join in these events?
Come on Defiant!! Call your mates! Shout in the SG! Rustle up your coalition! Get some PvP action on Test every monday night at 8 gmt.
Official Thread -
Pets have a very high base accuracy so they wont need any accuracy enhancements in them to be able to hit most of the time...especially when using freezing rain.
6 slot PAs as soon as you can (either 2 recharge, 1 acc and 2 dmg or 3 recharge and 3 dmg)...its the best power in illusion. The 3rd recharge does make a difference in freezing rain...better to slot for recharge than def debuff -
I'm not 100% sure of the -res in freezing rain but it's about 25% and cannot be enhanced. You can enhance FR with def debuff which makes the mobs easier to hit.
Slot it with 3 recharges and maybe 1 end reduction.
Def debuffs isnt really needed in FR but if you got the slots go ahead -
If someone are duelling I'll try and keep out of their way but you can't in no way expect anyone or me for that matter to always do this...it's an open zone...expect to be attacked.
Sometimes you "have" to attack in a preemptive strike to defend yourself. On more than one occassion I've had people say "Don't attack!! We're duelling/testing or whatnot" just to have these people attack you when you let your guard down or look the other way. -
Fire/Rad or /Kin
Rad is the safest bet, but Kin will make you move faster with more damage, faster recharge and all the endurance you'd want.
/Kin is a late bloomer where /Rad more or less is useful from the start. -
hmm, kinda tough this one...
It really depends on the teamsetup.
Ills are the alphastrike kings 'cos of PA but a bit lacking in the controldepartment and you would have more downtime than with other sets.
Earth is by far the best control set imo and have plenty of things to throw at each mob you encounter with very little downtime.
Fire is a very good set with plenty of control at some very handy imps to "arrest" mobs swiftly
As for secondaries it would be either /kin, /rad or /storm depending again on primary and teamsetup. -

Thunder Clap, it has its uses but I would personally vote against it. The animation is too long + it being PbAoE can get u killed...oh and a lousy accuracy on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh man i wish you'd stop giving out missleading info ..just because you have no idea how a power works makes it 'lousy'.
Thunderclap is 100% ACC but it only stuns mins and Lts .. I know i've used it for ages on my lvl 50 earth/storm.
It works well with earth stacking the stun from stalagmites and the animation times isn't that long.
its saved my life thousands of times and probably the coolest looking power in the storm set.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh man I wish you'd get your facts straight before making accusations like that...I'll refer to Disco and Carnifax's posts.
You're right in it being cool looking though -
Gale, have to take it...rarely use it, slot with 1 or 2 acc.
o2 boost, not overly important but nice to have for the odd heal, keep your pet alive and give especially tanks res to end drain when you're up against malta and carnies.
Snow Storm, 2 end reds (put a recharge in it if you have the slot.)
Steamy Mist, 2 end reds and 3 dmg res. It "only " gives res to fire, ice and nrg but if you pick the Fire Epic in the 40s you will have a really nice res to Fire and Ice (about 65%). Not the most common dmg types but still quite handy. Since you have SI/GI from ill this power may be redundant....up to you?
Freezing Rain, 3 recharges, (put end reds and def debuffs in there if you have the slots.)
Hurricane, 2 end reds, 3 tohit debuffs.
Thunder Clap, PbAoE, lousy acc, long animation, only consider for PvP if you have room for another power.
Tornado, normally I would suggest this but it doesn't synergize well with illusion 'cos of the sets lack of AoE immob with - knockback/down.
Lightning Storm, Should be 6 slotted with 3 dmg and the rest with recharges or end reds as you see fit. The end drain of this is too poor to slot for...use it for dmg/control/toggledropper instead -
[ QUOTE ]
also forgot 2 say, as a holder wouldi be better off getting 02 boost or cj (i have ss atm, with hurdle)
[/ QUOTE ]
o2 boost is not a must, but I still used it alot. The odd heal here and there, protect especially tanks from sappers cos of it's res to end drain + keeping my pet alive.
IMO you should always try and get the leaping pool 'cos of CJ and Acro...those powers are just too good. -
To try and answer the OPs question instead of turning this into another /storm PvP thread, here goes.
Hurricane is a must, herding/panicbutton/controlpower/debuff all in one...take it, get used to it and love it
Thunder Clap, it has its uses but I would personally vote against it. The animation is too long + it being PbAoE can get u killed...oh and a lousy accuracy on it.
Tornado...man I love this power. AoE immob to keep mobs in the spot, unleash Tornado for some nice dmg + def debuff + it's really good for AVs. People tend to hate tornado but you simply need to learn how to use and believe me you will love it -
You can't go wrong with /kin...it shines in every form...especially with fire/?.
As Nefarious said, if you want to be "all you can be" in the control department /storm or /rad is the way to go. -
[ QUOTE ]
with transference you don't need anything else if you are willing to use it properly & frequently
[/ QUOTE ]
/e agree
Stamina is not needed after you get transferance but its still very nice to have. Conserve would be, as said before, a waste.
One thing though, if you plan to exemp below lvl 35 and not have stamina then you could be in trouble (heh, doing Katie Hannons TF was a endurance nightmare for me )
If you're planning on doing PvP I would seriously consider stamina.
