What controller?

I'm thinking of starting a new controller and not sure what type to pick.

My main is ill/emp which I loved.

Have got a kinetics defender to 24 and I really like kinetics.

Am currently playing a grav/ff and love gravity but kinda not sure about ff, so am tempted to make a grav/kin.

I've tried ice and mind and was thinking about stone or fire as primary (apart from Gravity).

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

grav/kin is a decent all-round build.. however if you go fire/kin you'll have some really silly damage output. So if you want to be that high-dmg controller, fire/kin will be the type for you.

For pure control I tend to lean on grav and earth really. Kin wont be that great with stone compared to for instance storm.

If you want to go fire and like kin, I'd go for fire/kin, if you want to go earth, I suggest you also take a look at the other secondaries, especially rad and storm.

You can't go wrong with /kin...it shines in every form...especially with fire/?.

As Nefarious said, if you want to be "all you can be" in the control department /storm or /rad is the way to go.

I like Fire/* (Fire/Rad is what I play) particularly because there are only a few must have powers in the set (Char, Fire Cages, Flashfire, Fire Imps). This leads to a lot of diverification in the builds between even two Fire/Rad's. Also fires graphics are subtle so don't clog up the screen. The other powers in the set while not must have are still useful. A big plus is the damage of Fire - you can solo if you want to.

Smoke in the early levels was great for moving around but I rarely use it since I got the Imps and subtlety went out the window. Also in later levels too many foes see through it.

Cinders is a good hold but just takes too long to recharge to be a must have, I use it as a panic button. I combined it with smoke to get into position. Another reason I use it less often now as smoke is seen through by more enemies.

Bonfire is not as good as Ice Slick (or Earthquake) for control but does put everyone out of damage heavy melee range, I use it rarely but when I do I am glad I have it.

Hotfeet I used all the time until the Imps came along after that I use it rarely, only to take down a tough boss or a larger group. I could probably respec this out but I plan on using it for PvP. Works well for Fire/Kin and Fire/Rad but I think it would be risky for other secondaries to be in this close.

Ring of Fire I like the idea of but I just have no room in my current build. If I remove smoke I would replace it with Hasten before RoF to get Char back faster.

There are a few Fire/Kin in the Overlords so hopefully one of those can give you pointers on the Kin side of things.

Note that with Fire / Kin you will indeed have massive damage output but that output won't really come until level 38+ when Fulcrum Shift and the epic pools open up. Speed boosted Fire munkies sound like an awful amount of fun though. Especially when you can fire a FS at em too.

Fire / Rad is a much earlier developer and it a bit safer. The debuffs will let you solo happily almost from the start. By 38 you'll have 3 effective aoe holds (Flashfire & Fire Cages combined to act as a hold, Cinders and EMP). You could also have Choking Cloud.

Fire / Storm would be like Fire / Rad with less debuff and more soft controls. Basically you could slow and herd the mob, immobilse and Freezing Rain them as the Fire munkies swarm em.
