Quote:... Just listened to 'Fetters', and a few seconds into 'Dreaming of God' I was hooked. You plug well, because I -do- like what I'm hearing so far.5) Dared The Knot. This is a shameless plug for some good friends of mine. Great industrial metal band with prog and alternative rock influences. Check them out here. I think you'll like them, they're drawing ideas from a lot of the bands you're asking about.
Like may not be a strong enough word though. Going to listen to the stuff on myspace before throwing $10 at them. -
Quote:I think I'll have to start tuning in then!As well as my own Rock Zone on a Saturday night 10-12pm, where I play, well, whatever rock and metal nonsense come to me at any times, we also have 3 others who play Rock.
Quote:Headstrong is on every Tuesday at 7pm, but he's a young 'un and tends to play more modern stuff, like Disturbed, Trapt and the like, perhaps not exactly what you are after.
Quote:What you really need is to tune in on a Thursday night, as we have 2 DJ's you might love. At 10pm we have Escalus who tends towards the Queen/ELO style of rock, but plays plenty of other cracking rock stuff.
Quote:For the true connoisseur though, you need to listen to Jay, Thursday night at 8pm. His knowledge is second to none and constantly leaves me amazed at the depth of information he has about the music he loves! A lot of the stuff been mentioned so far in this thread has been played by him and discussed as well. If you want to know about the albums, he's like the Wikipedia of Rock, but without the fanboy inaccuracies
Quote:Again, apologies for coming across like a plug for the station, but I really think you'll love Jay's set, he reaslly deserves the mantle of Rock King.........I am the Rock God though :P
And again, thanks for even more excellent suggestions everyone, I'm going to be slowly making my way through these before my albums arrive. -
Quote:I grew up listening to the music my brothers had, along with my folks. I was introduced to dance and trance from an early age. I do love a bit of classic Prodigy.
-The Prodigy's album The Fat of the Land, if you don't mind a little techno with your heavyness.
Quote:-If you don't mind going into the later dates, I highly recommend anything by Coheed and Cambria. Welcome Home is still one of my all time favorite songs.
My musical tastes range from many genres and countries and many time periods, so I'm always willing to give something a listen. I just happen to be on a feeling for rock/metal/grunge/thrash/nu metal lately. -
Quote:Always willing to go a little further back, I just didn't want to overwhelm myself with choices. So yeah, will definitely look into Black Sabbath, some Iron Maiden too.Well, for me, it doesn't get much heavier than early Black Sabbath, but that would mean going all the way back to the 70s. Specifically, the Paranoid and Master of Reality albums, although Volume 4 has its moments.
From the 90s - heh - all the crazy stuff I've listened to over the years, it took a song by Garbage to finally blow the woofers in my old Pioneer speakers: The Trick is to Keep Breathing from Garbage 2.0. It happened when they went into the chorus and the bass line took that plunge waaaaay dowwwwn. Now THAT was heavy. -
Right, this month's purchase is:
Tool - AEnima
Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell.
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Soundgarden - Superunknown
That's £30 of CDs, which is more than enough for me for the moment to work through, though I'm still taking suggestions. I've got a few Metallica tracks dotted around from various purchases before, but definitely looking into the four suggested, and will be keeping an eye on here for more ideas in the future. I just hope that some other people get some good music picks out of here too. -
I have an urge for music. Heavy, heavy music. Classic albums from the greatest bands of the late 80's, 90's and the early 2000's.
I'm looking to order some great albums from Amazon.co.uk, and am looking for suggestions. Currently on the list I have:
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Queen Adreena - Taxidermy.
So please, help a young woman in her time of need by providing her the means to experience some of the greatest albums of the time frame and genres, and I can always look things up on Youtube to get an interest. -
"Go and talk to Warzone Liason/Hero Corps/Blahdyblah"
Stop telling me about these people first up to send me over to where they are and then all the way back to say I've spoken with them. At least wait until I have your number, or better yet, tell me and shut up and don't make me see them!
Particularly bad when a bunch of my contacts keep asking me to go see the Siren's Call Rep.
I -don't- want to! -
Check out the addendum I made to my post. To sum up again though:
Vigilantes are NOT LAWFUL. That is why they are Vigilantes, they go beyond the law! Rogues could be lawful! Heroes could go to the spirit of the law and not the letter! Not all villains are forces of chaos!
The D&D Alignment system is RUBBISH. People don't fit into these little slots. Okay, some characters can, but they tend to wind up a little bland and flat. It's pure batnut popcorn insane to think you can sum up four groups with varied reasons, morals, codes of conduct and history with two words! One hero and another hero will not act the same. -
Quote:Yeah. No. Read up for the debates we've had on the Alignment system for here and D&D. It just doesn't work.Hero - Lawful Good
Vigliante- Lawful Evil
Rogue - Neutral Evil
Villian- Chaotic Evil

Quote:Could we rename 'Serum' to 'Grabbing Pills'?
If they made the Commando...hell, even re-name 'em to Veteran, give him assault and maneuvers or something, and some nasty tricks up his sleeve.
Also, I enjoyed LXG. Sure it wasn't the comics, but if you can ignore that it was at least entertaining, and refreshingly low on CGI. That car chase? Model work! Mister Hyde? Costume! -

Skulls: Shadow Sisters. Women who have undergone death rituals and emerged with the ability to project waves of shadow (Torrent/Night Fall) and infuse their strikes with the cold grip of death (Shadow Punch)
Outcasts: Female versions of the current members would work fine.
Circle: Hard to tell sometimes under the robes, might just be a patriarchal thing for the mages.
Tsoo: Maybe some female members if Staff Melee ever gets added? Or some form of wise sage women who can apply buffs to the ink tattoos of fellow Tsoo.
Nemesis Army: Likely patriarchal, but I'd love some Ladies of Steam.
Trolls: We have female Destroyers, so some female trolls might be nice.
Crey: Already equal opportunity villains.
Rikti: Hard to tell under the armour, we know some are though.
The Warriors: A weirdly greek inspired gang -WITHOUT- the Amazon warrior myth appearing? Get thee some Cimeorian inspired BS/Shield ladies!
Sky Raiders: Likely patriarchal, former military unit and all.
Arachnos: Female soldiers please? We have the models!
Family: I can see some of the women of the Family standing up to defend their fellows. Pistols and psychics maybe?
Malta/KoA: Come together at times, so I guess that's fine both ways.
Freakshow: We have clamour and Doc Buzzsaw, let's get some more anarchistic ladies going. A missed opportunity for Super Stunners.
PPD (Both Versions): A distinct lack of female officers in the field. ONly a few NPCs/Victims. -
The way I see it, as demonstrated by 4 characters:
Hero:
Rushmore:
Rushmore tries to be a good hero. He is patriotic, but when it comes to America he is more for the people than the laws. He knows that sometimes you have to work against them in the interests of the people. If he happened to catch someone stealing bread to feed their family, he'd likely tell them that they shouldn't have to resort to that, and he'd buy the bread out of his own pocket for them rather than arresting them while chatting to them, finding out if there were any suggestions he could make to help them get back on their feet, and pointing people in the right direction.
The Law, for Rushmore, is a thing of government that you should try your best to stick to and to believe in, but that the spirit of the law should be stuck to, rather than the letter, and that it is more important to rehabilitate than to punish, to get criminals to make amends with their victims and to work on repaying them.
He believes in the tenants the constitution was founded on, and strives to help the people make America better.
Vigilante:
Fear Trigger:
When Olivia Vano's mother was killed due to Family politics for having an affair, the young psychic and granddaughter of Don Vano had the rush of feelings from her mother's dying moments burned into her mind forever. She has seen the excesses of organized crime, the cruelty and disregard for human life, and the spreading of poison for profit.
She has also seen the failings of the justice system, of people through money, power or force getting away with murder. Literally. It sickened her, and she stepped forth to stop it.
After all, who'd expect Family to hunt Family?
As Fear Trigger, Olivia seeks to rid the city, and the world of organized crime. Not by the law of the land and the courts, but by the law of the gun. For all the suffering and pain and fear they have caused, she delivers it ten-fold on them. Using her psychic powers to intimidate, terrorize and gain information by painful force for her next targets, she backs this up with her guns.
When Fear Trigger enters a Family operation, it's very, very unlikely that anyone other than her and their victims will walk out alive. To kill this creature, you have to eradicate it all, new heads will rise up after all.
Mercy was her mother's name. There is no mercy any more, only death for those she has felt done wrong.
Rogue:
Jan Boa:
Jan Boa has scruples. Only some, but scruples none the less. When it comes to getting money and resources, these things will be the counterweight. She'll take many jobs, but will refuse some outright. Anything that threatens to throw off the balance of the world is bad for long term business. Anything that hurts worker morale is bad for business.
And if something is bad for business? It has to go. Whether a job turned down, or a quick murder to cut off a source of trouble, Boa Personnel Services will do it.
They look after their own, and their friends. If they've taken a job, they'll do it with a few exceptions. Mislead them, go back on the contract, and it's hell to pay.
Villain:
((This is where I fall down, as I currently have none. Whoops. Basically, they're in it for themselves and their ideals, and damn whatever else anyone wants. Be it power, the world, or just a corner of it, these people will stop at nothing except maybe their own personal code to get it. They may think of themselves as good, or necessary evil, but when they get to work, others best fear. The danger with them comes from the varying forms villainy can take, from the urbane manipulator to the psychotic destroyer, and the gamut in between.)) -
Quote:It's also High Octane Nightmare Fuel. The only other suggestion I'd make is to have the parasites be a power that is used not on live enemies, but on bodies. Because otherwise it'll be rather unreliable and potentially wasted as a power, which is a shame 'cos the concepts cool. Also, wether the target is simply unconcscious or actually dead, either way they can no longer resist the parasites, making them perfect prey

One character in Brickstown can't be logged in, it just freezes the character select screen, and on a client restart says he is still logging out.
Another can be logged in, but gets constant mapserver connection issues. -
Please let Ex Machina be okay... please let Ex Machina be okay, please let Ex Machina be okay, please let Ex Machina be okay.
*rocks back and forth* -
Bees. My God.
I give this five legs up, and wish to play the set now, with either Pain Domination or Poison as a secondary. -
An under-level spawn ruined a Synapse TF for us, with no way to progress.
I'd be for such a thing. -
Because the Random Number Generator is random, and it's taken me about 30 minutes to get a tip sometimes on my Shield/Energy Melee tanker.
-
We are right and we are good, we'll give people what they should!
Like invading their homeland, destroying their clean water facilities and making them reliant on charity that will not be quickly forthcoming or easily distributed, leading to death and disease of many, including children, babies and the elderly.
Gawd bless you 'saviours'. -
Quote:I thought the Unionverse was basically the CoXverse as seen on the Union Server, which would differ to the CoXverse on Virtue, or Triumph, or Defiant, or whatever. You see I disagree, we aren't writing stories for the CoX verse, we are writing them for for the unionverse, in which case we are the same as the marvel writers, where we can write what ever the feck we want as long as it doesn't disagree with what our editors tell us (in this case the editors are the devs.)
Because those servers don't have the characters and events and history that this server does.
So if you're writing for the Unionverse, you're writing for the CoXverse. Just -a- CoxVerse. Which is the Unionverse. -
Quote:I know it's futile, but what the hell...If you were loyal to the people of Praetoria, you wouldn't be working for the system that is oppressing them
+
That's correct - anyone working for Tyrant's evil system is evil as well - no one with normal morality can support someone like Tyrant and be a good person.
What about the people who like living in Praetoria? Who are happy, Enriche or not. Who have families to look after, a nice office job, who go with their friends to Loyal Tea and Coffee at the weekend or talk about the latest episode of Blue and Gold.
Do they deserve their lives to be torn apart by the Resistance bombing hospitals, gassing police stations, destroying pretty much the one clean source of water and turning an entire population over to Vanguard's 'charity'?
Do they deserve the risk of kidnap for who their friends are, for what information they may know, or simply to be made an example of as a 'sheep'?
Does what we can see as pretty much the last, greatest bastion of humanity deserve to be torn apart by these drug-addled, anarchistic, sadistic barbarians, even if there are a few among them who try to do good, who try to subvert and to save the people of Praetoria? Do good men and women in Praetoria who try to work within the system deserve to be killed for just doing their sworn duty?
Does the Cole Administration have it's issues? Yes, and my characters who are loyal to Praetoria want to see these issues resolved. Is the Resistance the answer?
On the most part?
No. They're just another problem.
Life under the Resistance isn't going to be glorious freedom and safety. It's going to be hard, painful, dangerous and a far cry what most citizens of Praetoria would want for their family. -
Quote:What's one of the most talked about, praised aspects of this game?Bull. This has nothing to do with a timesink. It has to do with an completely unnecessary UI change for the small number of people who can't be bothered to fix their own problem.
The Costume Creator.
An option to get to make more use of it, to me, can only be a good thing.
Of course, you seem to be a little crazy, cantankerous and about as set in your ways as concrete, so arguing the point is pretty pointless as you're just going to go "No, no, I'm right, I'm right, you're just lazy and stupid and can't be bothered to do things the way I think you should."
Which is a level of crazy that's pretty hard to argue with unless I was to smack myself on the head a few times and go bat-nut popcorn insane.
