Newsies & Tips

Just a thought I had.

You know how sometimes it takes an hour or more to get your first tip of the day? Well, how about this...

For a low price (say, 100 inf), you buy a Newspaper from a Newsie. What you get from this is one random tip. You can only do it once per day.

I'm sure someone will have objections, but I think this would make doing tip missions a lot more fun, and cut out a lot of the boring streetsweeping you sometimes have to do to get a tip. People who don't like it don't necessarily have to use it, and it doesn't really give any discernible advantage to people who do choose to use it. Plus, it gives some nifty functionality to the Newsies other than yelling about old news (like Pocket D opening) and giving out new information (like Villains coming to Paragon and vice versa) in NPC chatter.

City of Heroes taught me that when the world is burning, you don't just stand by and watch, you grab a fire extinguisher and do whatever you can to stop it-even if it's not much at all. Sign the petition to keep City of Heroes alive HERE.

I would go along with this suggestion. It seems fairly random to get your first tip, but it CAN take extra time just rounding up random mobs in peregrine to get your first tip.

I have noticed you will have better luck getting a tip if you go after Bosses.

Because the Random Number Generator is random, and it's taken me about 30 minutes to get a tip sometimes on my Shield/Energy Melee tanker.

Alternatively, you can cut out the street sweeping completely, get a Newspaper / Radio mission, and run that. You get Tips from any NPC over level 20 defeated, even those in missions. I don't really think it's necessary to add purchasable Tip missions, especially if it's just one a day.

I haven't seen this taking an hour to get a tip yet, but the suggestion is interesting.

I could see an "informant"-like NPC that skulks at a point in 20+ zones. They could add a sliding scale inf from 20 to 50 as a tiny inf sink, like 1K at 20 and 100K at 50 (this is like the old diff setting in paying inf to change; maybe they can use the old scale ). I would limit it to getting these twice a day so that some one can find 3 tips, and get the last two more quickly (from some post like in the OP, it sounds like the RNG is more random at times).

Give the random standers something to do. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be put in. And I too have run into the stupidly long times that it can take to drop tips or, in my more annoying case, morality missions. Thank you, Sods law...

I'm not strictly against this suggestion for people who seem to need it. But I will counter that it has never taken me more than about 5 minutes from the time I start looking for Tips until the time I get one. I have "hunted" for new tips like this at least 20 times that I can think of so far.

The key for getting them quickly seems to be street sweeping the highest level bosses you can handle. Based on my experience it never takes more than maybe 2 or 3 +1/+2 bosses to drop a Tip for me.

Perhaps instead of this suggestion people should just be made aware that the easiest way to get Tips is to fight the biggest guys you can find.

I'm in favor of buying tips, but you should seriously raise the price to buy them. 100 inf is trivial. Up it to something like 50,000. That'll make people think twice, while still being low enough to be a non-issue at the highest levels.
