  1. Whatever magic you did to get the auction servers working so smoothly? Amazing stuff.

    AE Removal?

And my opinion is that'd make me less likely to even touch the AE. I like getting rewards for playing. A good story is all well and good, but if all I'd get is tickets, no experience, I'd not bother doing them on my non-50's. Sometimes it's nice to go through an AE arc and know that I'll come out with some EXP before doing a tip mission, story arc or the like.

I will just say 1pm to 7pm is NOT peak playing time. It is not prime-time. Also, servers are generally available 98.8% of the time. That is an ungodly rate of service. This week they're only going to be up for 96.4% of the time. Assuming I19 goes live next week (*crosses fingers*) with a 5 hour downtime, then from 4th November, through to November 16th, NCSoft will have maintained service for 95.8% of the time.

Really, honestly, that is an utterly ungodly level of service to maintain.

On the basis of those figures, there's probably a target of 95% service. That means that you can lose 3 minutes out of every hour. If there is anyone who plays this game in such a way that for every 4 hour playing session, they begrudge 12 minutes in which they cannot do anything in the game, then they really do need to take a good long hard look at themselves.
*Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*
  4. My characters will likely gain power in their own way. Rushmore will be even further empowered by the Spirit of America, Cindersnap's going to learn from his future self some martial arts techniques that allow him to harness his chi to bolster his mutation-given abilities so he can teach others in his team/teach his past self when he becomes his future self (time loop, hooo!) and my main is just going to add new tech to her battlesuit.
  5. *Puts on her reason hat.*

1: We're getting new server hardware. Woo!
2: 6 hours is less downtime than I expected for setting up the EU servers data in their new home.
3: I'd expect that if we ever wanted to see anything like cross-server listings, cross-server teamings or so forth, it'd be extremely helpful if both sets of server were in the same data centre..
4: As someone else has mentioned, they would be insane to get servers moved and a new system installed for merged server lists.
5: If all the servers have been moved, that includes EU Training Room, if they were going to test EU/US server list merging, they'd likely do it on the EU/US Training Rooms first, seeing as they're accessed seperately. To my knowledge, they aren't.
6: The distance is greater in miles to the US, but the Internet is not real life, there's a SuperHyperAutobahn between the UK and US's backbones, with less junctions to take (Less hops). UK to Germany on the other hand is the child of the M25, Rural Norfolk B roads and the Birmingham Spaghetti Junction, with a dash of a multi-story carpark in High Wycombe that loves to lock up if someone snafu's a parking manoeuvre.
7: Having the servers with the US ones gives us a bit more security in terms of the continued operation of the EU servers, either seperate, or with a server list merge. Cost cutting measures shutting down a data centre's operations are probably more likely than culling a few servers in one main data centre.

    *takes off hat.*
  6. It's a start!

When you say no work is needed on our part, would it help/be prudent if we cleared mail and such before hand?

He wouldn't. Just Alexia, Melissa and mainly Annette. The other two would only get one dance.
  8. Ryan'll go for the ceremony, wish them well, tell Cara to have a good time and then dash off, he has to go and fight Rikti. Though he would linger to get a dance from Cara. He'd be dressed in a black suit, blue shirt.

And yeah, Jacob knew they'd never accept the car as a gift, but them having the use of it in Paragon, they'd accept that. He'd say he doesn't drive much, and it'd be a shame for it not to be used.
  9. It's begun EU side as well.

I think it'll be the 30th. It can't be the week before, patches like this usually come on a Tuesday (as Monday is the day they finalize if they can go patch) and they wouldn't apply a major patch that close to Thanksgiving (Pro: Less tech/customer support needed. Con: Less chance to play during holidays.) And I doubt they'd launch on -that- day against -that- coming expansion.
  10. Jacob Dalmers arrives at the hotel with Annette in a taxi, dressed in a charcoal suit. He has a pale cream shirt on underneath, polished steel cufflinks and a coffee coloured tie. He's also lacking the tinted glasses he often wears. He'd want to stay outside to see the car arrive before heading in.

If asked about his eyes, he'll say it's a side-effect of his powers, and when asked about them, he'll state he's an ice manipulator. He'll make polite, if rather little small talk with people he doesn't know, and try to get some time spent chatting with Mar, along with others.

When the dancing comes, a lot of those will be with Annette, taking the opportunity to put some of the practice he had with Dinah and Ryan to use. Especially any slow dances. He'll also offer a dance to both the bride, and to Alexia, likely along with Annette asking the partner.

Should 'nette be able to get Mar dancing, Jacob'll take the opportunity to track Theo down, shake his hand and congratulate him. As well as offer him and Issa the car to use while they're in Paragon.

  12. As an EU player, not sure I'm eligable for the INF, but I don't care. This is based a little on the design of my Necro/Dark Mastermind, but with way less skin and more of a heroic mage look. I've gone for a pale blue with silver/grey due to the name.

...! What a character idea that has come to me! A tech origin ghost! A Praetorian Clockwork that as a second costume has a hovering, stealthed form of a dead person, the proverbial ghost in the machine.

I'm gonna have to make a point against this.

When you say humans, do you mean, humans as we are now IRL, or humans in a comic book physics/biology/chemistry using universe?

We have people IRL who can get kicked in the groin without flinching or doubling over, who can rest on spears or have concrete smashed onto them or break concrete with their bare hands. An Eastern story trope, especially in Japanese manga, is the manifestation of Ki to unleash blasts. These are highly trained humans doing that (Ryu from Street Fighter, as an example.)

Some might say that's magic origin, but is it? The power is coming from inside them, harnessing their own life force and spiritual energy to do so. That gives you perfectly human characters who, through intense training and discipline, have been able to unleash blasts of energy and pull off feats that even some metahumans would be incapable of.

Suspension of disbelief works wonders. As does making generalized game mechanics suit a character. A friennd of mine has HP represent the character's luck for dodging attacks. When their luck, literally, runs out, they get hit seriously enough to take them down. One of my characters uses HP as a telekinetic shield, that depletes when hit, replenishes over time and she can use powers to boost that shield (such as Drain Psyche for the +Regen)

Lastly, say we did add Alien Orign.

What about people who go "I want a robot origin!"? There's then a precedent and people will complain and pester for that. Then someone goes "I want a psychic origin!" and "I want an elf origin!" and "I want a ghost origin!" or "I want a cyborg origin!" and so on and so forth.

A system that worked then becomes bogged down with all these other origins that are frankly unneeded when, as has been said before, the basic 5 cover it fine. You don't want your Natural 'Alien' using throwing knives?

... Don't use them? Take the power off the tray and never use it. That's what I do for mutant characters who wouldn't be seen throwing that toxic thing, or science characters who wouldn't use those tranq darts.

If it isn't broke, don't try to shoehorn in things just because you disagree with 'Natural' counting more than just humans.
  15. The pre-purchase was for just the Going Rogue expansion, that gave you the early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning.

Now on the site, there is the Going Rogue Expansion, and the more expensive Going Rogue Complete Collection, with CoH/v access, and the Alpha/Omega Auras/Costumes and the Shadowy Presence Power, and the stances as well.

This can be purchased in a stand alone pack for 4.99. Link is as below:

    https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/St...em&item_id=216

I believe the boxes in the US are for only the Complete Collection, which comes with the pack as standard.
  16. Right, so where does the pairing for the DO's come from?

    We have:

    Natural/Tech
    Natural/Magic
    Tech/Science
    Science/Mutant
    Mutant/Magic

Adding Alien as an Origin would mean you'd have an imbalance in DO's. Not only that, what in game would drop the DO's/SO's? Some are rare enough as is (Mutant for example)

As for glossing over human achievement, look at Manticore. He's just a guy with arrows, and he's in the Freedom Phalanx. Look at most Sci-fi settings, and while there may be strong aliens, smart aliens, tech advanced aliens, psi aliens, so forth, there's always two things that humanity has as their own, that sets them above:

    Human Spirit
    Human Ingenuity

As for why meta-human is used, it's likely the same reason they dubbed their Earth/Dimension as 'Primal Earth'. And then it becomes a term applied by some as a catch all for abilities beyond the human norm, no matter the race.
  17. 69 Month Vet on the 22nd of this month.

    Why I'm here?

    Community, Roleplayers, Enjoying the game.

It's the Roleplaying part especially. 5 years of Roleplaying in this game, from the tail end of EU beta, a few breaks in between. Through the roleplaying in this game, I've made some of the best friends in my life.

Doctor Temporis and Hikari-Hime, who now don't play? I was the maid of honour at their wedding. Became friends through roleplaying and gaming in this MMO.
Gideon? Honourary brother. He's just that damn awesome, with a great taste in hats.
Raveswing? So many great RP stories, he's driven me to become a better writer, and I'm always glad when he's back playing.
FloatingFatMan? Big kind of uncle figure, always there for a chat about important things.
ShadowGhost? Very kind, generous man, had lots of chats about pretty much nothing over the years, and he comes over from the Netherlands to meet up with peeps in the UK, which shows dedication! (also he got me a chocolate Z once. Yeah, easy to win over.)
Poptart_Fairy? Very kind, very funny, very English.
Cass_? Top person, always good for a laugh.

These are just a few of the people I've spent money on to meet up with. On the 25th of this month, It'll have been 5 years since I met some of them for the first time in meatspace. There's more, so many more that if I went on talking about them, well, I'd be here for a long time. In 5 years of playing, I've made more friends than I've ever had. Entertaining both in game and out of game, whether playing, roleplaying or just chatting or having a drink in a London pub.

It's why I always come back, for the people and the roleplaying.

What would be in there? Aliens that are the same for all their race = Natural. Aliens with abilities beyond their race's normal abilities, innate = Mutant. Aliens who use science-driven means to gain their abilities = Science. Aliens who use power armour or other alien tech to gain their abilities = Technology. Aliens who use energy driven by various, non-Science means for their abilities = Magic. In this case, Magic and Science could even be interchangable, or Magic and Tech.

The five Origin system actually covers pretty much all eventualities of character, and you can usually fit one into one, even if they class as several.

Zack is a Syndicate Road Ronin, and has had some latent psi talent unlocked by the Syndicate that allows him to do amazing jumps, increase his speed and parry bullets. The Moral is Just That Good, with a helping of Badass Nomal and The Determinator. Force of will lets her do amazing things.
  21. It is, yes. And I don't blame them. It'd have been very hard to come up with other types of auras for natural characters, so the 'nature' theme was a worthy pick.

For what it's worth, my natural characters have the following.

Jonathan Wong (Kin/WP Scrapper, has Combat Atomic Fists/Eye aura, for spiritual energy glow/orbs. Powers and aura are blue.)
Amanda Wong (MA/Nin Stalker, has Combat Alpha Fists in blue, to go with her MA Powers as a chi attack effect.)
Alraune (Plant/Thorn Dominator, has Combat Leaves Body. She gained her power through a rare plant symbiont, so she's natural.)
Sin Widow (Night Widow, has the Arachnos Alpha aura in purple for her psi-ability aura.)

3 of my natural characters have still yet to get auras, and one of the Nature auras has been used on my Mutant Mercs/Storm Mastermind. Gail's Force.

Like at Level 25, maybe? So 25, 27, 29, then 31 as normal, giving you 3 extra slots.

    "Are you a god?"

Rushmore will be going from being an Avatar of the Spirit of America, to the Ambassador of the Spirit of America. This means that he'll get to use his powers outside of US soil (and on other dimensions) when he gains his Incarnate ability, kicking up his powers in response to the Praetorian invasion. America doesn't much like being invaded, so having an eight foot tall superhero to smash their faces into rocks is a good idea.

Once he gets to 50, Nachtbrecher will be unlocking more secrets of the technomagic of Thule to empower him. As a Government agent, it'll help in his shadow work.

Fusebox, Cindersnap and Quickfrost will be unlocking the potential of their mutant abilities, using the 'Incarnate' thing to basically go to a new level of power, rather than actual incarnate-dom.

Number Nine will harness more power and control from the singularity that powers her.

Tina P. Caustaf, my Demon/Thermal MM for Pacts4U will just get a promotion after clinching some good deals for the company.

As some of you will know I've been on a bit of a hiatus from the game since starting at Uni (bloody stupid thing to do at 34, but there you go!) but have maintained my subs for the occasional trip to Paragon. Sadly, it's not something I can justify any longer as the fiscal belt gets ever tighter.

Just wanted to say au revoir to those who know of me, and rest assured that Jay & I will be back.

Take care & be excellent to each other!
You'll be missed, and welcome'd back when you return! (And I'll still chat to you on Twitter/Facebook/MSN )

  25. In game at the moment we have the Fire Scimitar/Greater Fire Sword and Ice Sword/Greater Ice Sword, present in these power sets:

    Fiery Melee
    Icy Melee
    Fire Manipulation
    Ice Manipulation
    Fiery Assault
    Icy Assault

    The Proposal:

Transfering the models of the four sword types to Broadsword, Katana, Ninja Blades and Dual Blades.

    Argument:

These are elemental weapons, and even with them, your attacks will still do Lethal Damage and have the same sound effects.

    Counter:

There are already some energy weapons available from the start, and some unlocked for these weapons (Vanguard Blades, Tech Swords/Mace) showing that this is not a stipulation. In addition, Shield Defence has a menagerie of Elemental shields that have no effect on the defences given (Fire, Ice, Stone, Energy, Dark, Electric) rendering such a point moot.

    Personal Point:

I have a Dual Blades/Ice Armour Tanker who would love to have access to Greater Ice Sword and Ice Sword for his Right/Left hand blades.
