[Unionverse] Theo and Issa's Wedding Thread

The Venue/Ceremony:

The Elmhurst Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Paragon, and the venue has been decorated extensively in accordance with the coffee and cream theme. The initial ceremony is held within the hotel’s main dining room that has been laid out for the service, and takes the form of a confirming of vows rather than a religious ceremony. Rings are still exchanged.

There are several of Theo and Issa’s friends from work serving as bridesmaids, and Theo’s biggest fan Alice is the ringbearer/flower girl; she takes the role very seriously. Theo will be at the hotel to greet the guests already when most people arrive. The call goes out that Issa’s car is arriving slightly late (boo) and he’ll be in a rush to get to the driveway.

Issa arrives chauffeur-driven in the ’57 Cadillac Eldorado Seville that Jacob and Mar prepared for the wedding. It has a coffee paint scheme with a cream coloured soft top. Everything is polished and buffed to perfection; the chrome, interior woodwork, cream leather seats, everything. It is set up traditionally with the cream coloured ribbon arranged in a V across the bonnet. It’s a spectacular arrival for the bride.

Issa’s dress is a knee length white dress with a bolero jacket in white with cappuccino (almost light-caramel) accent colours (across the ‘elegant’ designs from the costume maker and the fur). She doesn’t wear a veil and her hair is mostly straightened (though she is wearing a gold/diamond tiara that isn’t possible in the costume maker D.

The hotel itself is of the ‘manor house’ look, although the dining room has large French windows down two sides, one of which is opened into the permanent-marquee, which houses the dance floor and dining tables. Everything (down to the napkins) is in the coffee and cream theme. Tables in the dining area sit eight. Altogether there are around 50-60 guests total (excluding Theo and Issa obviously), mostly made up of work colleagues + partners, team members, invited heroes and a spattering of family members that were willing to attempt the cross over to Paragon. Mainly this just means Theo’s parents and Issa’s parents and siblings. The wedding is probably considered “small” by American standards but Theo will note if people ask that he’s more comfortable this way.

The Food:

Whilst the ceremony will happen mid-afternoon, the sit-down meal happens around 5:30pm-7:30pm (roughly, so giving people time to then appear at GG after the dancing). Dinner is served as a three course meal, with menus on tables. There are plenty of waiters to go around. Each course is a choice of two (one being vegetarian option). Drinks are available at the bar (just outside the marquee inside the main hotel), but bottles of red and white wine are available on each table. Water/Orange is also available free, however if guests want more or different alcohol they’ll need to pay at the bar.

The wedding cake is a pretty standard affair, in keeping with the colour scheme. There is plenty to go around.

The Dancing:

After the wedding dinner the dance takes full control of the marquee area, with retreat possible back into the hotel’s dining room. Theo and Issa’s first dance is a slowed version of Train’s “Hey Soul Sister”, and those with super-hearing (or that can lip-read) will be able to tell that Theo is singing along with the song to Issa. After that music is a mix of tradition wedding music and whatever requests the DJ receives.

Issa & Theo Notes:

Mostly dealt with above, however Theo is on his best behaviour and looks pretty close to tears a couple of times (when Issa arrives, and after the first dance). Issa is abstaining from all attempts at offering her drinks beyond the wine she drinks with the meal.

If anyone brings gifts (although the invitations stated none were necessary) then Theo will politely take the person aside at the start and accept the gift which is then hidden away from the party to avoid unnecessary embarrassment.

Toppa Notes:

Toppa is serving as best man, and provides a speech at the start of the meal. He would go on (and on) about Theo and Issa’s contribution to the community and team, and wish them the usual luck in the future. He’d also tell a joke that probably only mages would get involving portals, energy feedback and Theo’s jumping underwear. (Make a noodle incident of the joke as you wish – but the savvy will remember what happened in the past...).

Anyone offering Toppa a dance will notice he’s actually pretty darn good at ballroom.

Tam Notes:

Tam is obviously quite happy to polish off his dinner, seconds, and then some. He is in his kilt, and mentions how it’s “just for these ceremonies” a few times. His first dance is with Toppa to show that he’s actually learnt something from him (though expect him to be a clumsy dancer!).

Mar Notes:

The young bundle of nerves spends much of the wedding fussing over his kilt, since he doesn’t like it and will state that to anyone that asks. He does look pretty good in it though. It’ll also be pretty obvious at this point that Mar is now both taller and broader than his father (Frank).

Mar will escape the dancing at any opportunity to go show off the wedding car to anyone who asks.

Alexia & Frank Notes:

Be warned ye with tails, Frank/Frakker has personal space issues when it comes to tails and thinks nothing of tugging on them to get your attention. He doesn’t do it to hurt anyone, and is more like the guy that gets your attention by slapping you on the shoulder than anything. In fact if you haven’t got a tail, he probably does slap/pat you on the shoulder/arm to get your attention. His thick Dundee accent is as unintelligible as usual when speaking.

Alexia gets annoyed with him at one point, and tells him off for “being typical”. She goes bright red and refuses to comment further if anyone intervenes.

Other Notes:

The bride and groom’s families are doing their best to fit in with the Paragon-verse. They cope better with those that look ‘normal’ to them, or those they can rationalise their powers away. For example Jacob and his glowing eyes would be seen as him being a mage and probably just casting far too much, whereas Ellie they’d be unable to explain and more dubious of.

Theo’s parents would amuse themselves during the dancing by going around and asking “And what do you do? And how does that work?” to as many heroes as possible. The attentive would pick up that they’re not particularly fond of the idea of super-powered individuals.

At the end of the evening (around 8.30pm) Theo and Issa will return back to the wedding Cadillac to be whisked away for the start of their honeymoon. Tam was unsuccessful at convincing them that they should have tins on strings tied to the back.

I *think* that covers anything and everything I had planned with the couple of spring-board points to develop further. OOC/IC posts for questions and guest activities are very much welcome.

Okay then.

Annette will be arriving with Jacob, looking like this, with the added feature of a gold necklace around her neck which looks quite old.

Her general mood is calm and happy. She's there to enjoy the event. She will dance with Jacob a lot, but will be available for other requests and will try to get Mar out for a dance at some point.

If anyone were to ask...

She's out for the day and returning to the Zig this evening. Psycho murderers don't generally get bail, but she's being allowed out for certain specific events prior to the trial thanks to the intervention of certain influential individuals. She has already arranged to attend the Vanguard memorial service on the 11th.

She has been in solitary following a fight. She requested it for safety reasons and the Zig authorities finally agreed after she was attacked. She will not say for who's safety the request was made or be pressed on the outcome of the fight. She's staying in solitary and says she quite likes it. She is able to have visitors, however, because she's basically in there voluntarily, and she's happy to have anyone come visit if they wish.

She is confident that she won't end up in prison, though she won't exactly go into why, it's supposed to be a happy occasion. What she's not sure about is the strictures the court will put on her freedom. Only time will tell.

At the end of the evening, she heads off in a taxi with Jacob.

I think that covers it.

Oh, if asked about her powers and what she does, she'll say she doesn't have any powers, she's just a good soldier.

Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.
Posts are OOC unless noted to be IC, or in an IC thread.

Jacob Dalmers arrives at the hotel with Annette in a taxi, dressed in a charcoal suit. He has a pale cream shirt on underneath, polished steel cufflinks and a coffee coloured tie. He's also lacking the tinted glasses he often wears. He'd want to stay outside to see the car arrive before heading in.

If asked about his eyes, he'll say it's a side-effect of his powers, and when asked about them, he'll state he's an ice manipulator. He'll make polite, if rather little small talk with people he doesn't know, and try to get some time spent chatting with Mar, along with others.

When the dancing comes, a lot of those will be with Annette, taking the opportunity to put some of the practice he had with Dinah and Ryan to use. Especially any slow dances. He'll also offer a dance to both the bride, and to Alexia, likely along with Annette asking the partner.

Should 'nette be able to get Mar dancing, Jacob'll take the opportunity to track Theo down, shake his hand and congratulate him. As well as offer him and Issa the car to use while they're in Paragon.

Chich will arrive in her coffee colour jacket and cream trousers. She'll be on Theo's side of the chapel/room as she knows him best. She'll be quiet and observant.

If talked to, she will reply, trying to hide the obligatory ankle-tag.

The evening she will take what she feels she needs from the food and drink. She won't dance unless a gentleman she likes asks as the disco dance style she's learnt isn't really appropriate!

If Sparky got an invite, she'd show up in a thigh length metallic blue short dress and white trousers, looking pretty smart despite the lack of a full dress. Skirts she can deal with, but dresses and her don't mix. She's got her contacts in rather than glasses, because Sparks, the other part to her, insists they ruin her looks. Sparky argues her looks aren't much to look at in the first place, but she loses that arguement this time

She'll just hover in the background, talking to people she knows and being polite and cheerful to those she doesn't know.
If she didn't get an invite, she'll be busy dealing with 'Stuff' (Rikti, criminals, the normal for her) so's all good.

Sparky's safe to consider getting an invite I think :P.

This is one of the reasons why Jacob is awesome. Theo will agree only as a loaner, it's Jacob's car and it will be returned in pristine condition - Mar's job will be to look after it in the garage!

Mar'd dance with Annette (and possibly with Chichester I'd think) but he can't lead or ballroom or.. .dance, particularly, so it'd be more of a shuffle than a dance. But he'll try. Frank would spend the dance/afternoon complimenting Annette on her teaching of Mar - it'd become obvious he's not aware of her being in prison currently (or particularly interested in finding out about it) - just don't expect to fully understand everything he says!

Frank would mention to Jacob that he's pretty sure he could 'have him' - so no funny stuff during the dance with Alexia. He's mostly joking.

Alas, Ellie will be unable to attend, being somewhat busy doing crystal impressions.

Cara will go if Ryan goes, likely as his +1. She'll be wearing an ankle length red gown, cut low in the back and covered in a red sparkly substance

Yeah, Chich'd dance with Mar. She'd be just as bad as him too.

Sparky might agree to a dance or two, probably blushing like a beacon and doing passably well, teding to trip a little due to being too easily bashful.

Ryan'll go for the ceremony, wish them well, tell Cara to have a good time and then dash off, he has to go and fight Rikti. Though he would linger to get a dance from Cara. He'd be dressed in a black suit, blue shirt.

And yeah, Jacob knew they'd never accept the car as a gift, but them having the use of it in Paragon, they'd accept that. He'd say he doesn't drive much, and it'd be a shame for it not to be used.

Chich might be ored. She'd even dance with Jacob if he offered!

He wouldn't. Just Alexia, Melissa and mainly Annette. The other two would only get one dance.

Dr Richard Huntington III will attend wearing a smart black suit and a plain tie, though will have added a natty black cane with a silver head in the shape of a swan. He will be unfailingly and scrupulously polite to those he doesn't know, and smilingly cheerful with those he does.

He might be persuaded to dance - once - by Shanna, if she's persistent. Anyone who watches will realise why he's not too enthusiastic about dancing with anyone else.

At the meal, he will eat lightly, except for dessert ("second helpings? don't mind if I do...").

Despite the insistence on no presents, he will be delivering his gift for the happy couple to Toppa sometime over the next couple of days. He will not, under any circumstance, mention that he's getting them anything.

And, keeping watch from good overwatch locations outside after following a guest, will be the Bowman; shrouded to near invisible status and watching to make sure no criminal attempts to take advantage of the situations.

He's driven but there's a reason for it. ((I recall Garth Ennis text bubbles that might explain it. "Beyond honour, there is duty. Beyond Duty is obsession. Beyond Obsession is insanity. Beyond that there is only... Judge Dredd.")) Bowman is getting close to that stage He will protect the heroes of the city. However he has to.

Sorry for the lateness in adding this

Shanna will have worn a pretty ankle length pale blue dress (although she would have been mildly grumpy about not being allowed to wear heels with it). Other than that, she would have thoroughly enjoyed herself, would have bullied Richard into at least one dance and tried to get in dances with as many other people as she could before sitting down for the rest of the evening to rest her foot.

Assuming Raurí and Helena got an invite, the would have found a baby sitter for the girls and made sure they were there in plenty of time for the ceremony. Raurí in a smart cream suit and tie, and Helena in an elegant knee length coffee coloured dress. They would have spent most of the evening staring at each other gooily but will have taken the time to congratulate the happy couple. They will have happily accepted dances from other people but otherwise will have spend most of the time snuggling on the sidelines.
