I find myself using no special ammo for the KB. I duo with a rad/nrg blaster and caltrops and the KB we both have makes life a whole lot easier when we get higher level spawns or tougher mobs. When things arnt going hard I use the incendery rounds for the damage. Cryo and toxic just dont seem to do much. I could see a defender/corrupter getting more mileage though.

Quote:As far as I know all versions have it, it is a pretty basic part of the power. I only have hurricane on a defender so far so I dont know for sure. It would be a big part of the defense package to leave off from the other AT's.So while looking at the detailed information and trying to decide between Ice/Storm Corr or Storm/Ice Def, I noticed that only the Defender version of the power has the -range component. Is this true or just a bug on the part of the detailed info? (which wouldn't be new)
EDIT: You can tell I was completely exhausted when I wrote this because I totally forgot to mention I was asking about Hurricane >.<
Congrats on taking a storm char. It will be a wild ride on a dark and stormy night -
I am not a heavy player, I have not seen one of these before. Is it just a rare Tip Mission?
How long have they been around?
Are there a lot of them?
When did they get added to the game? Is it an I20 thing? I havnt had much game time for I20.
Thanks -

Quote:So a master mind with storm secondary cant get credit for participation? That is what I am hearing. If this really is the case, that's crazy. It completely screws over Storm Summoning characters.
I am wondering how well my bot/ff mastermind will do, does force bubble count for 'tagging' them? Or should I just spam repulsion bomb and do nothing else? -
Quote:That would make fire/kin even more disgusting, or for that matter anyone who took world of confusion. It is a thought though.Mmm, just occured to me. What if Repel were replaced with a PBAoE toggle that did -damage and slow, but had an Afraid component. Like Hot Feet, but with debuffs instead of damage. Would have similar effects in terms of foe movement, while being more thematic, avoiding problematic issues of knockback, and also providing a bit of safety.

IMO
Kin is just fine and balanced as a set, as is.
On my fire/kin I use IR as my sole travel power, well I did until ninja/beast came along. It supplements them very nicely. No wasting a prereq to get a travel power. Besides all the other details everyone else has provided.
On my Bots/FF MM I have a functional clone of repel and use it frequently, it doesn't mix well with fire control, hot feet being what it is, with other sets it can be very useful. I have had multiple bosses locked down with repulsion field, walk them into a corner and watch them bounce like popcorn while the pets eat them.
The problem with /Kin is that you have to many choices and to many powers just in /kin much less your other set to try and keep going while everyone is demanding SB pls, SB now, OMG give me SB, SBSBSBSBSBSB the second it runs out no matter how far away they have run.
I'd argue that /Kin is one of the strongest buff/debuff sets in the game, a little narrow in its focus, but very strong, as it now stands. There are other sets in much more need of developer attention. If it needs anything it is attention to the psuedo-pet it drops to heal or recover endurance. Make them more like lighting rod or static field. -
It might take me a bit to level up the grav guy. I'll see if hurricane can pick up some casings.
-
I increased to to very high earlier. I took a small hit to FPS, based on eyeballing the in game meter. Based on eyeballing my CPU meter I also dropped cpu utilization about 15-20% on all four cores.
I am guessing this meant the GPU picked up some slack.
When my new PSU gets here I will be putting in a faster cpu and a second, older, vid card and tell the Nvidia control panel to use it for cuda/physics.
I did a few missions in the praetorian tunnels, and saw newspapers flying around in the wind, as opposed to just laying on the floor.
I'll have to see what my storm defender can get going.
Be nice to hear a definitive answer so people can fully use their hardware and increase game immersion. -
Do you have riva tuner or any other OC utilities? Any recently installed items? COH doesnt play well with everything.
I am betting it is an incompatibility with a recently added utility of some type.
This should really be listed on the known issues page and fixed. -
What are the differences between 'high' and 'very high?'
I see the option for Ageia (tm) support, and I see the following on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ageia
Ageia, founded in 2002, was a fabless semiconductor company. Ageia invented PhysX a Physics Processing Unit chip capable of performing game physics calculations much faster than general purpose CPUs; they also licensed out the PhysX SDK (formerly NovodeX SDK), a large physics middleware library for game production.
Ageia was noted as being the first company to develop hardware designed to offload calculation of video game physics from the CPU to a separate chip. Prior to this, solutions from ATI and Nvidia had not been planned nor announced. Soon after the Ageia implementation of their PhysX processor, Nvidia and ATI announced their own physics implementations.
On February 4, 2008, Nvidia announced that it would acquire Ageia. On February 13, 2008, the merger was finalized.[citation needed]
The PhysX engine is now known as Nvidia PhysX.
Being as it has been three years, will we see Nvidia physics implemented soon? Or has it already and the in game text under options needs to be updated?
If I put a second nvidia gpu in my box will it handle the 'very high' physics calculations?
Thank you for any input. -

As of the last time I played WOW if the buffer leaves the team/raid the buff goes with them. Simple enough.
-
Quote:Basically what WOW does. I havnt played the new expac, as of LK, many of the buffs at max level, when targeting a player also buff everyone in their team. If your 5-maning it thats one cast for each buff. If your raiding one cast for each team. Of course in wow most buffs dont stack, on the other hand 20 min is very short for a buff, most are at 1 hour. Now, a compromise solution would be to turn the shield buffs from ally targeted to an AoE that only affects Team Mates. I don't think that is necessary but I also think it would be an improvement over the current implementation.
The difference between the single and group buff is the cost of a reagent, which is to say a very trivial amount of gold.
The single target version of those buffs still exist (as I recall 30 min duration) and are useful in case someone gets dispelled or deaded. -
Quote:I agree with a lot of what you are saying. People come at COH with a lot of differing ideals on what makes for good play. Some enjoy crunching numbers to the point of being "the best" some hate numbers and like pretty graphics, or dont like min/max numbers but do like big damage numbers.Agreed, but I don't think the original tone of the post was intended to cause all the back and forth arguing. Whenever a PB discussion pops up on the forums, there are 3 major camps that usually respond...#s people against PBs (#s people for PBs rarely stop in b/c I think they get tired of repeating the same things and having a discussion with people that haven't played the AT in 10yrs but are very vocal), people that LOVE PBs and people that HATE PBs.
I don't try to compare my PB/WS to my Huntsman anymore than I compare my Defender to my Blaster, like you said...it's pointless. But I do show an interest in posts when some compare a PB's damage and survivability to Defenders. My Rad/Sonic Defender is a beast, but I've never been able to Mids up a build that gives it capped resistances, 2100hps etc etc.
Sadly many people assume that how they like to play the game is the only or 'right' way to play. So far as I am concerned anyone who is enjoying themselves without directly and deliberately interfering with others enjoyment is fine and good.
I speak only to my views and experience. In those experiences Khelds are a viable class to play, if not the min/max poster child. Some wonderful things can be done with both PB and WS characters and they do provide help to a team.
Also in my experience the class was more powerful and balanced when it first hit the streets then now. Some work could be done, like how tanks got more damage, controllers got containment etc.
I am curious, how many of the individuals posting in this thread have a kheld? How many have one at 50? How long has it been since it was played? At what level of slotting is it? And more importantly, how does it's play style mesh with your preferred way to enjoy the game?
For myself:
One PB at 50, last played yesterday.
A few WS levels 1 to 20, on my list to play
My PB is IO'd but not uber efficiently. His slotting hasnt changed much since IO's first came out. It is time for me to mids out a new tri-build and human build for him.
I tend to enjoy complicated and intricate characters, ones that take time to master and once you have done so has flexibility and tricks.
I'd say Symby is my secondary main. My primary being a fire/storm controller, a class that blooms late and has some serious levels of subtlety and raw power.
Of the two there is no question that the controller does far more raw dps and destruction, that does not however make Symby less enjoyable to play. -
Quote:You dont need too, I agree, some people however do, one reason being that 3d sound is not available in vista/7 and is in XP.You don't need to run City of Heroes in compatibility mode with Windows 7. CoH is just fine running natively. XP Compatibility mode is for older business programs that an employee of a company might still need to run.
Some older games need to be run in compatibility mode as well.
For the longest time COH wasn't officially vista compatible - if it even is now - so people may have it still set up. -
I did an LGTF tonight, 7 players, good mix of character types, including a PB and WS.
I clearly saw what they both brought to the team.
The two tri-form Khelds did significant amounts of AOE damage with their Nova forms. They were melting spawns. When the Brute, who was not yet 50, had trouble tanking, one or the other jumped in and took over with Dwarf.
The healing for the team was an earth/rad controller. The PB occasionally supplemented the healing, particularly during the 'Hami' phase.
Could another class/at have taken their place, sure. To claim either was a waste of a spot or not useful would be a very sadly mistaken claim. -

How many people here have tried to play a FF defender I wonder?
I did, he has been around lvl 20 for some years now. Even with hero stats to keep track of wo has a buff and how long till it goes down, keeping a team bubbled is tedious and not much fun.
From that perspective something should change.
I like the idea of incorporating the two bubbles into dispersion field. Perhaps even having to initially cast the two smaller bubbles and having the bigger bubble reset the duration to four minutes each time it is touched.
Even with a base increase in endurance cost for dispersion bubble this would be much more manageable and take the burden of constantly casting two shields off the FF player and allow them to do other things above and beyond being a buff bot. -
A fire/storm corrupter could do a great deal of damage teamed with a PB. Or any storm really.
PB's have access to two self heals (three if dwarf is used) and a heal other. Storm would give the pair another heal-other and some serious debuffs.
Both of you would be able to tank based on the situation. With hurricane and a nova sitting on your head you could lay out tons of hurt - specially with freezing rain everywhere.
Illusion/Storm controllers can be quite powerful, not so damage oriented as a corrupter though.
really, Khelds begin what they are anything will get the job done. -
For my lvl 50 controller fire/storm, I wanted another tornado. Water Spout does knock up instead of knock back so it can be more team friendly.
My other option would have been Psychic Mastery, that tornado doesnt move though Adding world-of-confusion to Hot Feet could be really fun though... both 6 slotted and IO'd just right.
I keep thinking about making that second build... one of these days... -

Quote:Wow. I havnt been attacked by my own pets since.... err... well before ED. One of the early attempts to make controller pets perm would have them sometimes go hostile after a zone/map change.I've been taking damage pretty regularly during the Tower Defense portion of the BAF. I eventually figured out it is coming from Jack Frost attacking me. I don't have any screen captures or notes on it. I do have Arctic Air running most of the time, and it has a Contagious Confusion proc (which used to be bugged and cause the same problem). If it happened during beta I never noticed it. Is this happening to anyone else?
I would bet your right about the proc... or it could be something else.
