I heard that you all filled the league, and that the raid went off without a hitch. Good show, Pinnacle!
This weekend is the LAST WEEKEND IN A ROW that I will have to be absent (I will be on a plane while the raid is taking place). But as usual, one or more of our members will be there to lead it.
Also, (in case anyone still actually reads this topic) keep your eyes peeled for some more Talsorian led events in the coming weeks!
Updated for this week. -
The following link is the latest update from Zwillinger regarding player subscription types and refunds: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=297472
Hopefully, that should clear up some of the gray matter. -
Another great write-up from Eliot. I also like that he's going to be opening up his column to testimonials. Huge kudos to him and Massively.

I have yet to try CO.
I downloaded DCUO on my PS3, played it a bit, and I found it enjoyable. The travel powers were spot-on in my opinion, and I like you eventually get special abilities with each one. But other than that, it felt like most other console games I might play, and the problems with those are that they rarely have staying power. (Hence why I stopped playing them: $60 for 2-3 weeks worth of play before I had beaten the game and gotten bored was digging into my wallet.) I may pick it up now and then, when I think, "I actually want to play as a sidekick of Batman. Screw Nightwing, I'm the new guy!" But those impulses never last long.
Marvel Heroes... *sigh* why do I have to play as one of them?! I LOVE Marvel's characters, but I do not want to be one-of-several Spidermen slinging my way through Manhattan. There is something to the "unique snowflake" theory in MMORPGs, and it was achievable in CoH. Even if I ended up on the same team/league with someone with the same power sets, there were a large variety of things that could set us apart (travel powers, costumes, gender, origin/story, power customization, etc.)
City of Heroes is one of a kind. I can only hope it remains to be so. -
Scooped.
But yes, it appears this (along with Bio Armor?) were on a timer that we can only assume was consistent with the Devs schedule on when things would be available for release. -
I've been trying to get on the Titan Network forums, but there's been a problem with my account. Sent in for help, but was informed that most of the guys capable of fixing the problem were pretty busy with #savecoh stuff (understandably). So I've only been able to lurk, but the lurking has been done!

I went to Beta, but... it's all just too much! The crashless nukes, Blasters' Sustain, DP changes, Martial Combat... I just end up depressed about all that I wanted never making it in the game!

Quote:Because that needed to be quoted for truth. All you people worried that this means the game is dead or that the "Save CoH" attempts have all failed - nothing has changed. NC Soft changing their mind was always the least likely occurence. The main chance the game has had since then is that NC Soft will allow another publisher (or the former Paragon employees themselves as a new company) to buy the game (IP, software, and all) and continue it under that new publisher's banner.
And that hope has not changed by NC Soft finally offering refunds, because NC Soft would not be involved in the "new" CoH.
Keep up the fight.
Also, considering I was also set to renew September 1st, I REALLY you are right Zwillinger. I'd like to stay VIP through the end. -
Quote:This! (In response to Jester's post that NCSoft having to at least publish a sun-setting schedule.)Yep! Plus, honestly, there's little to no chance that NCSoft will be involved in the continuation of CoH. So, they will still have to handle their end of the bargain regarding our subscriptions and accounts and all of that.
So, even if/when we get further information about player/customer service cessations, it doesn't really mean a single thing in regards to selling CoH and letting the project, community (and, hopefully with time and favor on our side, Paragon Studios) continue.
So when we get those details, let's not jump to any conclusions without cause. -
Quote:True enough. Though, they would at least be able to say, "We are can no longer pursue a solution with NCSoft," thus giving us a firm yes or no.Keep in mind that their severance packages are likely tied to a non-disclosure agreement. For financial reasons, I suspect no dev will comment openly on the closure except in the most broadest ways.
While the terminology is foreboding, note that it is Zwillinger who is giving us the information, not a mass email nor public statement from NCSoft. He's getting his info directly from them. Whether it is good or bad, who is to say? The point is that there are still open lines of communication that exist. -
Hey all,
I posted this in another thread, but given the number of threads we've had pop up this weekend regarding NCSoft's silence, I felt warranted to post it as its own topic where more people might see it. (Might be considered cross-posting?)
NCSoft's silence may be infuriating, unjust, and seem like poor business management, yet there is another group of people whose silence we are not considering: The devs.
We know that the Devs have heard us. They have yet to disappear off of the map, which means they have most likely seen our frustration as well. But they have given us no information other than to notify us that Paragon management was in discussions (and only discussions) with NCSoft and investors. [source]
Given the relationship between us (the community) and the Devs/Community team, I firmly believe they would have told us by now if they, too, had received nothing but silence from NCSoft. Because they would be able to; if they received no response from NCSoft, they would have no reason to be quiet about what was going on (whatever that may be). While they would not badmouth NCSoft, they would have the decency to tell us that a wall had been hit, and give us the opportunity to focus our efforts towards solutions that did not involve NCSoft (few though they are).
I agree: the longer the silence, the longer we have to wait, the harder it will be to recover. I agree: not a word from NCSoft either way on the subject after two weeks is astounding and aggravating. But we have not heard word either way on the subject from Paragon either.
So let's give our Dev team a little credit: As many of us forum-frequenters know, the quieter the Devs and Community team are, the harder they tend to be working, and last we heard, they were indeed working toward a solution.
Have hope.

Quote:You misunderstood methinks. That should read as "If the devs receive no response from NCSoft, then they are under no NDA because no discussions would be taking place."I think you need to reword this sentence, as no response actually does mean that there's an NDA about discussions. NDA stands for "Non-Disclosure Agreement."
And Cap, you're welcome. That perspective is the only thing that keeps me from flying off the handle. -
Here's the thing: while NCSoft's silence is infuriating, unjust, and just poor business management, there is another group of people whose silence we are not considering: The devs.

I'll say this: putting these emails out there "for the world to see" (essentially) would not have been the course of action I would have recommended. That said, the deed is done, and as others have said, what more is there left to lose?
I will email them at some point over this weekend I suppose. -
Quote:...WAT?According to a video displaying the character creator, those are the two "standard" models shown when selecting that particular race.
Don't think too hard about what you're about to read, or blood will shoot out your nose:
The left one is male.
*Blood shoots out of Winterminal's nose onto his keyboard*
Too late. -
Quote:As of 8/31/12, they had made up their mind about shutting down the game. Which means CoH being removed from their website, shutting down the game's presence, and firing the studio were all justified and logical business moves.Right now it seems the company doesn't care and as far as all evidence points, they have made their mind up and are shutting the game down.
The studio is gone, COH has been struck from the site, they are actively shutting down the game's presence and not one rep from NCSoft has shown their face. Not one!
Truly think about what you are asking: For NCSoft to come forward and say "We hear you, but have not yet decided how to respond." Would that answer give you any satisfaction? Probably not, since it leaves us in the same state we are now.
I agree with you, the complete silence on their end, combined with not knowing either way, is incredibly frustrating. But one of us exploding at them won't cause them any chagrin, and most of us exploding at them will just annoy them, possibly enough for them to just give us the finger and be done with it.
However, for all of us to bite our tongues, present ourselves as a community as a whole that really just wants their game to continue, one way or the other, makes us look like a group of people with whom they can work, and makes finding a solution all the more possible. -
Quote:Oh, most definitely. I agree, pressure should be maintained, but in my opinion we should think more in terms of population rather than intensity. By that I mean that we should take the amount of pressure we have now and spread it among as many people as possible, rather than starting for the torches and pitchforks.Which is why we also need to maintain the pressure - it's quite possible that NCSoft were expecting only a few days of nerdraging that would soon die down - so we need to make sure that any plans they had for just toughing out the player response to the closure are wrecked by constant pressure on them from all angles.
-
That's why TonyV has been busting his *** to get the word out quickly. That kind of publicity puts pressure on the NCSoft execs to make a definitive statement on whether or not the IP can be sold. Like you said, the longer we wait, the more likely we will lose Paragon Studios to diaspora.
-
Quote:This has no significance whatsoever. As far as the general public is and should be concerned, NCSoft does not support CoH any more. It would be poor business practice for them to keep an outdated, unsupported product on their website.I notice that the main NCsoft website has been redone, listing B&S and Wildstar, along with Aion, Lineage 2, Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. City of Heroes appears to have been entirely removed.
That didn't take them long, did it?
Whatever discussions are going on behind closed doors is independent of the company's public face, represented by their website. -
There's already a topic discussing this.
While that very much seems to be the obvious explanation, and no matter how negatively we all (myself included) feel towards it, we have to remember: until we receive a firm "yes" or "no" to the question of whether or not the IP can be acquired, we have to play nice. -
I am done trying to figure out their thought process. Spock would have an aneurism trying to figure out their logic.
I am just keeping my fingers crossed that they take our actions seriously enough to sell the IP. -
I would love to outfit my only lvl 50 Defender with the ATO set, so...
@Winter. (note the period)
I would love Lot 10!
Kudos to you for just spreading the wealth, Organica! -
It should be noted that "Personal Story Arcs" where you play through as the character (i.e. without attacks) do not actually award any xp upon completion (in my experience with the DA arcs, at least). However, the fact that it did not return upon mission completion is strange.
-
The last one is just pure win! Although, I am a huge fan of number 3 as well. Now I am sad these will never come to fruition.
-
Do you know how irritating it is to want to help with all this (and other Calls to Action), but to be tied down by work and other obligations? UGH!
Keep up the good fight, Tony. If I see a job that I can actually handle with my current schedule, I'm pouncing.
