And I'll reiterate CO and DC are both giving this sort of slider/bodytype ability for free with their games.
Very interesting the only counter-arguments I'm hearing here are ad homs about whining and entitlement. How does keeping up with the competition strike you as an argument in favor of sliders for everyone? Pretty good one, I'd say.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except CO devs have styated there WILL be 'micro-transactions' in Champions On-Line just like there are in CoX currently.
Now, while I too think that slider customization should be part of the basic game, obviously the Devs think differently, but ALSO given that CO won't be released until September (unleed they decide to more the date again); and that DCUO is still in ALPHA, it's a bit early to claim the competition iis 'offering more'. Hell, for all we know CO could charge real money for a respec; and until it's out we woon't know what comes with the game, and what you need to pay extra for. -

Incredibly true AF, incredibly true. We vote with our wallets. What does get me down though is that most people will simply say "I pay for this game, so I get to do what I want" without acknowledging they're being at least as selfish as those people who are upset over the farming and power leveling being so rampant. We are all affected, we are all affecting, and we're all selfish.
While this is just a game for some, for others (i.e. Devs) it's a source of livelihood, so essentially the ones who stand to lose the most out of these flame-wars, are the Devs... gamers can simply move on to another game, and the amount of time a gamer invests in learning a new game is nothing compared to a Dev that has to find or learn a new job.

I think you fail to understand what drives most pling. PVP. People want to pvp at SC, WB and RV levels. They may have 4-5 50's but say with dom changes not have a dom that is great in duels or zone or arena. From a perspective of job security having people WANT new toons for PVP is a good thing. It keeps them paying their 14.99 a month. Lets be honest. There is not a lot of high level content in COH. You talk to WOW people and they will say the game begins at 70. I mean sure there are RSF or LGTF but those are few and far between once you have done them.
For a lot of us - PVP is the end game rewards. High level team arena, mid to high level zone fights, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 dueling tournaments. There are not a lot of us who want to roam the sewers...again..or get the fortune teller, again...or do the preatorian arc, again...so we can compete and enjoy the high level pvp that attracts us.

^^^^^
Interesting to me as all I hear (in game and on these boards) from the remaining CoH PVP community is that I13 totally screwed up PVP, and those that remain do so because their subscription hasn't run out yet; but they do not plan to re-subscribe.
So, either the PVP community reaction to I13 is overstated, or their is a new PVP community that can live and play under the I13 changes; or the PLers are trying to find something to justify the behavior to the Devs. -

If you are using the Battle objective, they are set to hostile to each other, no matter what the groups are. Whether or not they are hostile to the PCs is set separately, but there is no way to keep them from killing each other. This is actually a very nice feature, I have one mission where as soon as you enter the warehouse, there is a huge melee going on in an apparent civil war in the group. Blasts flying everywhere, swords swinging, it is really great. If only they get the bug in the final map of the arc fixed, so I can publish the sucker.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only other annoying 'bug' (athopugh I don't think the DDevs considered it one, it's just an artifact of 'Battles') is if you also have any Patrols that are the same group as one of the groups in your Battle; the Patrol will attack the remaining MOBs of any Battle group they come across EVEN IF the survivors are the same group as the Patrol. I've tried numerous things to minimize this in my MA arc, but it's just a known behavior of the MA MOB AI system. -

So, in other words...this IS just another "AE Ruined MY Game" thrtead. Yep. -

Oh, and one final point to make.....you list 7 items of note as examples of how responsive to player feedback developers have been, but if you read these items closely, you will notice that 3 of the 7 are called "potential" changes that are "in the pipeline".....we were not talking about how responsive they could have been, or say they will be in the future, so your example shows they are responding to player feedback (on minor issues) a little over half the time. I suppose that is better than not at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm guessing you have never played another MMO because if you had; you'd see enviroments and Dev Teams that do not listen to player feedback beyond exploit or bug reports. The CoX Dev Team is VERY responsive to player feedback as compared to every other major MMO out there. And no, I'm really not a fanboi of CoX; I've honestly played a BUNCH of MMOs over the years (started with Meridian 51). -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, the final verdict is this: My motherboard is unable to detect that a video card is in the PCI-E slot. Then again, we already know that from above posts.....lol
I don't want to have to resort to sub-par onboard graphics, so I'm stuck on either getting a new motherboard or just going all the way and getting a new computer.
[/ QUOTE ]
Psst - the Motherboard IS the computer. It's the min bus through with ALL peripherals run; and hold the main CPU tht controls the entire system. -
[ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, since the removal of the "x people have played your arcs" badges, you can't tell whether someone has played your arc and hated it or low-rated it without playing it.
I find it amusing that people are *still* dismissing vote griefing as "why don't you just admit your arc sucks?" Even some of the most discerning critics have flat out said they don't rate lower than 1, and when all the 0-star votes were removed....voila, a bunch of arcs jump up to 5 stars. Frankly, most players aren't that discerning.
[/ QUOTE ]
I also find it funny that once an Arc that got a number of 5 Star votes goes to 4 Stars, said authors suddenly cry "It MUST be Griefing!" followed by "How will ANYONE find it if it's off page 1?!".
I got news for you...IF an Arc is really SOOOOOO good (and doesn't really deserve less than 5 stars); word of mouth among players shoould keep plays coming. If you drop to 4 stars and plays stop, maybe it isn't 'griefing', but rather some people who (for whatever reason aren't really enthralled by the Arc as much as the first group was.
Just because the first 50 or so who played it 5 starred it, it DOESN'T follow that if Player 51 gives you less than 5 stars, or - heaven forbid - drops the arc but still rates it; it doesn't mean he 'griefed' you.
When you submit ANYTHING to a WIDE audience, you will ALWAYS see three types of response:
The Person who thinks your work is the BEST THING EVAR!
The Person who is completely ambivilent towards your work and could give a rats [censored] one way or the other abiut it.
The Person who believes your work is UTTER CRAP.
And no, you DID NOT write the one piece of fiction that is the exception to all the above. If you can't take or even believe tht meone (or even a good percentage of folks) DON'T feel your Arc is 'the best thing ever'; go back to playing Dev created content, and spare yourself the aggrivation. (Oh, and don't try to claim "I'm not upset by all this really, I just think Griefing is bad and any chance of it occuring needs to be removed...' because:
1) If you WERE NOT upset about it, you wouldn't go on a public messgae board to vent your frustrations.
and
2) If you really hate griefing, cancel your subscription to this and any other MMO you may subscribe to, because whenever you play a pubic game with other real people live whose ruleset is this complex; griefing will be a fact you are FORCED to deal with. -

I like CoH as much as the next person and will most likely buy the booster and the expansion, but if NCSoft is determined to charge us at every turn while providing less and less content for free then I think they run the risk of losing a lot of their market when other superhero MMOs begin to surface.
[/ QUOTE ]
Micro transactions have been verified as being in CO and probably DCUO (since it's SONY, and they LOVE MT), so it seems like this is the new way of the MMO market.

QFT re: SoE: back in my EverQuest days, SoE LOVED to announce paid expansions OFTEN. The usual converstation in game went like this:
EQ Player 1: "Hey! Did you hear about the NEW EQ paid expansion?!"
EQ Player2: "What, has it been two months since the last paid expansion already?"
There is a lot that you can [censored] about in CoX, no doubt about it; but the rate of new unpaid content and feature influx honestly ISN'T one of them. No other MMO to date adds new 'free' content at the rate of this Dev Team; not even WoW. -

lovely. They now do maintenance during the start of primetime. I love how well they take our money and reduce playtime AND hardly take care of real issues (those they like to blame on US).
[/ QUOTE ]
Let's see a maintencence downtime of two hours to fix server stability issues that have been causing player disconnects; yep, it's one that can wait.
You can always initiate a lawsuit for your 4 cents back for these 2 hours you 'lost'. (based on a $15.00 per month 30 days per month.) -

Arc Name: Arc name: "Is It Live Or Is It Memory-X"
Arc ID: 70210
Keywords: Challenging, 'Save The World', Science Fiction
Length: Long (5 missions)
Morality: Heroic
Enemy Groups: 5th Column, Crey, Custom VG (Memory-X)
Level Range: 35-50
Has: Bosses; AV (Scales to EB based on team size/difficulty setting).
Story Description: The 5th Column is building a device to control the world. Can you save the world from TOTAL DOMINATION?! (Hey it worked to get my Villians and Vigilantes pen and paper RPG group interested back in the day.)
Definitely still Looking For Feedback as I've done a fair amount of tweaking for I15.
I15 Updates: Took the feedback I've gotten to date, and re-worked the MOBs dialog in Mission 2 to make it less 'spammy' throughout.
I've also redone some Clue and Objective descriptions in Missions 3 and 4 to make the story flow a bit better (as long as a player reads the clues as they 'pop'. If you don't care about the story, just 'kill stuff' ). I just wish 'Defendble Objects' allowed a Clue to be depolyed to the player once you successfully defend the object - that's one thing still not allowed in the MA, and would make me hppier with the clue progression in a spot.
I've also 'tweaked' my custom VG based of feedback to date now that we have more customized power selections.
Designer 'Play' Notes (After I15 testing): The Arc can actually be soloed by most Scrapper (Level 50 MA/SR), Tank (Level 42 SS/INV) and MasterMind (Level 40 Robot/Traps) builds. My level 41 Gravity/Force Field Controller made it through mission 4 solo with no issues, but starting getting defeats in mission 5; so if youre a support class or a blaster, you probably need a team-mate. This arc is actually based on an adventure I ran players through in the Villians & Vigilantes pen and paper RPG a number of years back. I was surprised at how much of the original flavor I was able to keep in adapting it to fit in the CoX universe. -

both cores max out at 100% <snip> Anyone have any ideas?
[/ QUOTE ]
The game doesn't support multi-core... you have to add the command line to force it to single core. This is a well documented issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
The game now supports Multi-Core CPUs just fine; and has now for nearly two years. The old 'renderthread fix is no longer needed (and I play just fine on my Dual core CPU). -

So, I made my account about three years ago, and played for two months and got a level 30 character. Now, I reactivated my account with the City of heroes/City of Villans account, (as well as a trial account that I played around with, which is still active), and I cannot find my character on any of the servers. I have my two month veteran thing, so I have no idea whats going on. Any help at all with be very much appreciated.
[/ QUOTE ]
What level was the character? I ask because they did a purge of all characters level 5 and below IF the character hadn't been logged in, in over 60 days. -
I love how the CoX updater still says "I15 in open beta!"
-
Pacifist - Ally will not attack, but CAN BE attaked by MOBs and defeated (which can cause a mission failure).
Non-Combat - Ally will not attack, and can not be attacked at all by MOBs.
(Click the small '?" in MA to get a windw that tells you what some things do/mean). -
[ QUOTE ]
I have seen so many people saying "Changing AE will not fix the problem". Well, I think MOST people will agree that AE has caused a fairly LARGE problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
Please speak for youself - don't assume "Everyone" agrees with you. The MA is the LARGEST breath of freash air to ANY MMO recently period - and I hope they continue to EXPAND its capabilities.
Oh, and BTW:
1) Have never used AE for farming myself (just doesn't appeal to me - Farming that is; and yes, Farming IS a staple of EVERY MMO out there...EXPLOITIVE Farming, which is what the Devs would like to cutail in the MA, which I understand and support).
2) have never done, or been into the online 'immesrse yourself in the character' RP aspect of MMOs, ever.
3) Been playing CoH off and on since closed beta back in December 2004; (Took a long break after issue 5; came back for good after Inventions got added in I8); so I've definitely 'been around' in this game, and NO, the MA hasn't been the cause of Level 50 players who don't learn to play their toons well (In TFs and such). Those type have been around in ALL MMOs - and yes, there are people who virew MMOs as causual chat rooms with more stuff to do.
So, honestly, with regard to XP, and rewards, the MA is fine as it stands; and honestly, if you think the MA farmers would join your group and 'play the right way' if MA were truely gutted as suggested, you're wrong. Those folks would just cancel and move on. (I know I would at this point if the MA was really gutted or removed). -

Hmm...are you sure about the ganking thing being harassment? I mean really PvP is bascially no holds barred cut your nads off with a rusty can top environment. Ganking seems to be what happens everyday in PvP IDK maybe im missing something important?
[/ QUOTE ]
Camping a re-spawn or zone in point has always been considerd griefing for PVP in the majority of MMOs I've played. Once you've you've fully zoned; or are back on your feet (and no, not necessarily fully recovered); you're fair game and can be ganked to the opponet's heart's content. -
To the OP - Are you certain you aren't confusing the MMO term Spawn/Zone-In Point Camping with Farming?
MMO Farming = Reppeating the exact same content over and over because it yeilds a specific type of reward the player wants again and again.
MMO Spawn/Zone-In Point Camping = Other PVPers sitting at a re-spawn or player zone in point ready to ambush (or gank) re-spaning or zoning players before they get a chance to orient themselves.
FYI - The second is considered harrassment by the Devs and can be reported. -

not ones that I could breeze through half-awake.
[/ QUOTE ]
You've just described 99% of the content in this game.
Really now, CoX is not exactly the most difficult MMO out there. Ever since IO sets came out the vast majority of the content which was balanced around SOs became trivial. Unless you actually manufacture challenge for yourself, such as trying to solo every AV in this game or 2 man the LRSF, the challenge factor in your average run of the mill content is minimal. I'm not trying to sound like I'm this amazingly skilled player who can breeze through 99% of the CoX content with just one arm and both eyes closed. I'm just saying that CoX wasn't designed to be a wipe til you cry, 50 man raid on a 100 million HP uber mob type of game. I've played those types of MMOs, a lot, and the difficulty level in those MMOs is tear inducing when compared to CoX. The way I see it, the difficulty level between your typical level 53/54 farm and your average TF/SF/story arc is negligible.
[/ QUOTE ]
QFT. Honestly, I've played all Heroside ATs and when some people start to claim "Things are too hard on Heroic..."; I honestly go... -
On live missions Patrol XP is added to MOB kills. In MA, there is no Patrol XP added. In MA the only thing Patrol XP is used for is to offset defeat debt.
