Quote:Ahhh. I thought tl;dr was similar to QR. So, I blame ignorance on that one.Contextually, it goes along with "tl;dr" which is generally accepted to mean "too long; didn't read." Ergo, "it wasn't very long at all." But mostly, that facepalm pic is one of the worst I've seen. And by all means, feed my red in retaliation if you like. My sig will thank you for it. I strangely find myself fighting a losing battle against the green and associated positive commentary.
Besides, I don't really care if people like/dislike the pic (it seems to get equal ammounts, actually
) it's more that 1) I like it and 2) Its appropriate given my avatar.
Now, if they gave us a /e facepalm emote, I'd use a screenshot of that instead. -
Ah, faceless neg rep. We meet again. And what 'wasn't very long at all'? Hm, pity your owner will never come forward and explain.
Honestly, though, the Devs had said, specifically, this will not happen. As in, not just 'they dont have the tech' or, 'they dont have the time'. Pretty much, they would only do this when Hell Froze over and Jack Emmert was banished once and for all by the big Banhammer in the sky.
e.g. Never. -
Quote:...What sort of glutton for punishment are you? Oo The old Hero content is HORRIBLE. And I dont even mean that in a story sense. Some of the story stuff is quite cool, but it's hamstrung, gutted and filleted by absolutely atrocious mission setting.I'll take City of Heroes' content every time, because even though a lot of its arcs aren't that good, there are so many that I never get bogged down replaying the same content.
A typical bluside arc, after you have exhausted The Hollows and Faultline;
-Defeat All
-Defeat All
-Hunt X (usually 30 or something)
-Defeat All
-Defeat All
-Talky over the other side of the freaking city, usually someone who you should be able to call...
-Huge map, Defeat All
-Huge map, Defeat All
-Defeat All
Or, in the case of PI arc;
-Huge, outdoor map, Defeat All. Random AV spawn
-Repeat 5-6 times
-Hunt 60 somethings
-Repeat
-Return to Outdoor map cycle
It just...ow...just ow. The very thought of it hurts me. -
Atlas -> Kings is where I usually manage to make it with a team, which is always fun. But to Boomtown? Thats pretty dang neat
And yes, Sewer teams were, are and always will be an awesome forge for new coolness. -

Or I could be one of the various flame thrower guys that centers ignite patches on my target instead of on the ground....
Actually i wanna be a Rikti with stalagmites that shoot straight up with no ceiling on the power.
Or a sapper with one power that actually, you know, saps? Instead of this crap effectiveness that electric blast got since the devs actually thought that end drain was moderately usefull, so nerfed it.....

Quote:Above Statement: ApprovedFunny, that AT already exists, but people keep insisting on playing things other than Masterminds. I can't imagine why.

All Arguements against: Possessing: Counter arguements
The unavoidable fact is, that ranged/defence ATs, Assault/Armour ATs...whatever you want to call them, the type EXISTS, and it is balanced. Otherwise it wouldn't still be in game, or at least not in it's current form.
For every arguement against said AT, there are at least two to counter it with. -
Quote:Well yes. But you very, VERY rarely (If ever, actually) have Traditionalists fighting Restructurists. At other times, its only troops from one faction. Ergo, there would be no speech.Maybe not always. The various factions would probably not want people from the other faction reading their minds, so they would cut themselves off from the mental network. Maybe they still need the translators because they don't actually have a spoken language of their own anymore.
Your point is good, though; there should be speech where appropriate. And badly done humour is not approriate. -
Quote:Thats only because whoever wrote the Rikti dialogue for most of the RWZ missions had a complete slip in what was 'funny' when it actually wasnt, and what worked, and how this didn't. They tried to make the Rikti more comedic, which failed miserably, and should never really have happened.I used to think that the Rikti speech pattern was interesting.
Then any semblance of consistency disappeared, and it basically became an: exercise: in: adding: colons: everywhere.

Heck, I still dont think they should have ANY text for Rikti except when directly talking TO Humans. At all other times, there wouldn't be any other text; the Rikti use telepathy. -
You there...I like the cut of your jib.
Rikti are the perfect thing for a new EAT. Unique costume stuff? Check. Unique power and sets? Check. Options for Heroes AND Villains? Double check.
Allowance for Rikti Speech: Thought Pattern: Bonus
Looking Badass: Additional Bonus

Quote:"No. He's right. This has gone too far as it is," The Chief stated, gesturing with one gauntlet at Mechano's emplyees. "You... Stop this. Now. You have no right to be putting any living soul through a grinder like this, just to prove your point. The talk has ended; you've achieved that goal. Now, leave. Before you are placed under arrest for the chaos you've helped to cause. I- Vix?"
********************
The hall itself...
"Oh, you have got to be kidding me." Molly groaned as soon as the robo-moron decided to interfere. For the moment, she still kept her sights fixed on Mechano's mob, the same as Splitter and Crash, but as long as this newcomer was around, she needed to reconsider her tactics. Again. "And -WHAT- would you suggest we do instead? Allow some mad scientist's greatest weapon to run rampant around the city levelling everything she walks into? I think not, so I strongly suggest lowering that forcefield right now, mister!"
The Chief turned as the young woman beside him stumbled, grabbing his arm.
"Someone...hngh!" she almost yelped, grabbing her head. "Someone just died...violently...And then someone else...ohchrist..." the empath muttered, trying to steady her own breathing. -
Golden rule, for me anyhow;
So long as it doesn't interupt my enjoyment of RP, and the enjoyment of others, then its probably fine. I might grumble for minor reasons, but if its fun to RP, its fun to RP.
Cross that line? Meh. Your funeral... -
'Epic' classed storyline, still unique power-sets (Im propossing an Assault/SELF-defence set, not the Team defence that VEATs get.) and much more than 9 tiers of power choice.
Any new, non Epic AT would still have standard 9 tier sets, and none of the extra bells and whistles that EATs have. Nor, however, would they be so concept restricted. -
Quote:Anything that makes Rooted not suck worse than pretty much any other power that isn't actually hailed as 'broken' would be a good step, IMO. Personally, I cannot stand Stone Armour as a set because, flavour being all well and good, but said flavour should not come with a 'suck at anything else bar being a damage sponge' price tag.
For the mobility issue, the fix is rather simple: give Rooted the partial Grounded treatment. Specifically, I would suggest allowing the mez protection and resistance portions of the power to be active at all times while the +regen portion is only active while you are in contact with the ground (or in close proximity to the ground). Doing so would allow the power to be used effectively at all times while maintaining the thematic "penalty" of the power. The applicable precedent is pretty obvious: Unyielding. In its original incarnation, it forced you to stand still while providing no additional benefits beyond mez prot. Its current incarnation has no movement penalty and provides the additional 5% +res(all) that we currently enjoy. This change isn't even as extreme as that.
Oh, nor should 'Be sub par for 31 levels' be mandatory either.
Castle is aware that Stone Armour is not very balanced (Its balanced around Granite, which is the tier 9. Not a good thing) He also said he'd have a hard time changing it, because of the uproar that we all know would ensue. -

Quote:Castle, is there any chance that we might get the 'missing' Ranged or Assault/Defences AT? Much like the EATs, but not locked into one concept like that? I think theres a lot of new concepts that would open up, and the current EATS have already proven its balanceable.Every time the topic comes up internally, I bring up the Blood of the Black Stream. I like the concept, I like the backstory, I like the powers...no one seems to like the amount of TIME they'd take, though. Coralax are totally 'meh' to me...unless we ever get that Underwater Zone that's been talked about.

Quote:Who's talking about balance? Did the OP specify SO builds only while I wasn't looking? I'm just saying certain things can be built up to tankmage status, and Crabs are perhaps the easiest to do so. In fact, if you want to remove IOs entirely, Crabs are maybe the only AT that can be termed a tankmage on SO strength only (again, mitigation, mez protection & AoE damage, straight out of the box).This answers your question for me.Quote:Tankmage usually implies you don't have any weak points and nothing can touch you, though. While a Blaster at the def cap is fairly strong, hard targets are still a trouble for them, especially if they're a boss or EB with a Tier 9. Even worse if they have def debuff (I'm looking at you, Silver Mantis! I hates you!).
SoAs are in the same boat, and might be worse off, depending on their power setup (as I mentioned before, they'll have a harder time if they're AOE focused).
Basically, Tankmage equates to something like the Paladin from WoW. Oh, look, I might die; Invincible Bubble. Wait and heal. Go hit stuff. Oh, I might die. Lolbubble. Rinse, repeat.
At least thats the way I understand it. Giving a Blaster Hibernate on a 30 second recharge cycle and as part of their primary/secondary would be tankmaging. -

Quote:You killed him! You *******! D=Sorry I didn't get to post earlier but I had to dissapear to work.
Anyway the confusion over the mortal remains of Soap Box. It's true he isn't actually in a single piece, and no I didn't actually write he exploded. instead I wrote...
Basically he was hit by a concentrated microwave burst which cooked him from inside out. Think the movie Gremlins and what happens to the one shoved into the microwave oven. Anyway I figured people would of realised he exploded, my bad. Although Bunny and Rock Powerfist's follow on posts do actually support that notion. Stray limb is mentioned...
Although I do remember a typo at one point ("stay limb" I think).
As for the microwave burst the airship sensors might of picked it up and been able to identify what it was. Also the corpse still has residual energy which can be used for readings. As for the point of origin a few people present would be able to figure out the original attack vector giving them a rough idea of where the assassin was. -
As I said before;
No one else I know has ever made 52 copies of the same char.
It's just...one of those unwritten rules, I guess. -
IOs aren't, and never should truly be, the balance point of any AT or set. SO level achievment is.
-
Quote:You answered your own question.HEATS... uh... hmm... well, actually I've been in several teams that will run with 6 people over invite a Kheld (side note: Peacebringer is one of my favorite ATs. Don't accuse me of being racist.
). Dominators bring heavy control with their high damage.
What would corrupter damage/scrapper defenses actually contribute to a team to seperate it from one of the existing ranged ATs?
Ranged damage without the risk of faceplanting as fast as Blasters do. Less damage balanced by less squish-factor.
