animals be cool, bears, tigers or even mythical, hydra, griffen or sumthin
[/ QUOTE ]
Skeletons are the big problem there. The dev team would have to create entirely new body types and dozens, if not hundreds of new animations for every single animal.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not a programmer so this is just a guess. Wouldn't they also need to work in how they would react to holds, stuns, sleep, confuse, knockback, and immobilization effects?
[/ QUOTE ]
That'd be part of the animation effects, as everything else is just a basic AI bit that probably wouldn't have to be changed all that much. Sleeps/Holds/Stuns would all need new react animations, whereas Immobilize and Confuse wouldn't need anything special at all themselves.
Knockback would probably just be a secondary effect of getting the new skeleton to react with the ragdoll physics. -
I think that's sort of the point with Supradyne, Des.
It's highly addicting, hallucinogenic, and can turn you into a super-freak (Super freak! Super freak! You supa freakay) if you take enough of it. That's the draw - the lure to get more people to take it, to get more money, to make more of the stuff to...

O2 Boost sucks, and is entirely skippable.
[/ QUOTE ]O2 Boost sucks as a heal. But it's quite good for stun/sleep protection (can you say Rikti?), as well as endurance drain protection. It's also one of the few grantable +Perception powers in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
This. Only reason's mine slotted for heal is because of set bonuses. And the fact it can't really take any other sets but heals...
Totally a means to a different end, though. I only use it as a heal as a last resort. -
The HP bug for damage badges is exceptionally annoying to me. :/ I've got only 1.3m damage accumulated on my main badger (a Kat/WP scrapper), and I know I've taken at least four times that much in actual damage. But thanks to HPT and +HP accolades/set bonuses (most of which I got as incidental), and the fact my regen is so high...
I think at this point, I have to get hit for ~600-800 damage just to start accumulating badge credit. I don't even want to think about that Redside, considering how high the requirements are for damage badges there... and the fact they're required for certain accolades.
EDIT: Huh. It feels like so much more then only 350. Does explain why I get chump change for damage credit, though.. -

by that definition someone could be cool based at least partially on the substances they imbibe
[/ QUOTE ]
But doing the substances isn't part of it. It's just something they do that they enjoy. Nor is the volume or specifics of these substances exactly important.
It's psychological, not biological or chemical. The biology and chemistry are entirely secondary concerns.
...in my opinion. If that's your metric, s'all good, mang. Just not how I roll. -
[ QUOTE ]
what is your metric for cool? i am willing to bet it is not a very good one
[/ QUOTE ]
A certain undefinable quality that tends to vary from person to person; Generally associated with how one acts and carries themselves then it is what they say or do. Sometimes, these things can be completely at odds with one another - a 'cool' person can say something completely foolish or infantile, and yet somehow still make it seem 'cool' despite that fact.
It's a state of mind and a personality trait, that shows up in everything the person in question does. Other people can share similar traits, but can just plain lack that 'cool' vibe and be 'uncool' as a result. It's also most commonly exemplified by those with a lot of personal self-confidence, and a realization that it really doesn't matter what other people think on the matter.
Some people just got it. Others don't. Still others wish they did.
End of the day, just don't matter.

I don't consider caffeine a drug, is it not one of the food groups yet? I'm a caffiend.
[/ QUOTE ]
It technically is. It's a mild psychoactive stimulant and diuretic. It also can produce withdrawal symptoms when your body starts to become dependent on it, just like any other similar substance. However, it tends to be far less pronounced due to the reduced effect it has in general (being only a mild stimulant, after all).
...I usually drink 4-5 cups of coffee a day, to help cope with my ADD. -
[ QUOTE ]
see? that guy is cool
why can't you all be like him
[/ QUOTE ]
Because I don't define 'cool' by the substances someone does. :3 -
I dunno, I always looked at it this way:
-Regen decreases HP Regen by a flat percentage.
-Res increases DPS in a multiplicative fashion.
Both have the net effect of lowering the gap between 'Defeat Possible' and 'Undefeatable', albeit in two different ways. Subtract and multiply.
...I really can't explain it too much better then that at the moment. -
[ QUOTE ]
Crap I forgot about that animal-skeleton thing. No ghost dog for us, I guess.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not without a sufficient bribe, anyway. :/ -
While I'm not exactly interested in the exact suggestion (a scary ghost-dog would be somewhat problematic as then BaBs would have to create/animate a dog skeleton from scratch, something he's stated would be fairly work-intensive compared to usual projects), however I really wouldn't mind more ambiance (so to speak) in Croatoa or Dark Astoria (and maybe a zone or two Redside as well) in the form of strange stuff that happens and you're not entirely sure if what you just saw was real.
Maybe an untargetable ghost mob with Phase Shift? It doesn't really do anything other then pop up out of nowhere and drift by. Or maybe it follows for a certain distance and just circles? Or something else. It'd certainly be one of those little moments that make the whole place creepier. -
Just a theory that there was one - I do know I got a 'Database error - access only to forum administrator' bit for a while when attempting to refresh the main index, and then noticing that a lot of forums came up with ' - <date/time>', and that I had a few posts missing at the end of threads (as did a lot of other posts I checked once I could browse again).
It was only for a short time period, though, maybe 30 minutes. -
I think there was a rollback at one point that ate a few posts.
I know I lost at least 5 that I made in that timespan, which sort of sucked. -
'Better' is purely subjective in this case; I'd say that they're both different, but equally effective in their own ways. I personally think Captain Mako is a better and more interesting villain then Ghost Widow, but I'm happy to be the minority on that case. It's just my opinion.
There's Big Two canon examples of both kinds of villainy, and I think having both as counter-points to each other and the good, heroic portions of the game-world are certainly awesome.
When we look at Lord Recluse, we sort of see a version of a somewhat more honest Magneto (in both Genosha and Asteroid M), and Darkseid (ruling despot of Apokolips). All three are fixiated on a singular goal, and don't really give much of a damn (Magneto sort of does, and has crossed the line between hero and villain many times to this effect) about anything else other then the pursuit of that goal. By all rights, a nation of super-powered being should be able to build their own utopia, right? Genosha was a squallid third-world hellhole (and Asteroid M wasn't really that much better), and Apokolips was a dark, gritty industrial nightmare full of sadistic freaks. The analogue here being the Rogue Isles... Recluse sort of sits at an empasse between the two methodologies - on the one hand, it's clearly not that impressive of a nation. But there's examples of huge, gritty technological wonders and advancements that prop it all up. And all three are still fixiated on that one shining goal - Recluse wants raw power, Magneto wants to create a world of mutant supremacy, and Darkseid is looking for the Anti-Life Equation (for reasons that tend to vary).
Tyrant, on the other hand, has built up an empire more like less chaotic individuals. He may actually care about the people he dominates, and assuming that's true, that puts him up in a similar villainous mindset as Doctor Victor von Doom (FOR SUCH IS THE MIGHT OF DOOM! - Sorry, I had to get that out of the way) and Lex Luthor. All three have (at one point or another) shown that they're capable of creating utopian environments - Doctor Doom actually did rule the world in a 'What If' and it was a better place; Lex was president of the U.S. and actually making it a better place while advancing his own schemes - and still ending up to be the 'big, bad villain' on occasion when it was necessary for the plot (or using the utopia as a facade to hide greater evils or bait an opponent). Things actually seem to have gone well for Praetoria's common citizens as long as they obey Tyrant (much like Latervia does under Doom, and the U.S. did under Luthor). If he's convinced that what he's doing is for the best, and damn what anyone else thinks... that's certainly a great story to tell, especially in the context of side-switching becoming available at the same time.
Honestly? I find parts of both branches of villainy rather faskinating, and have to say that I find villains in both categories (Darkseid and Doctor Doom) to be far more interesting then less defined would-be-conquerors. I don't think the trait themselves necessarily makes one or the other a better villain, though.
Personally, I find Tyrant rather bland in the typical goatee-evil-mirror sort of way. It's damn-near obligatory, and he even comes complete with the Justice L- er, Praetorian Phalanx.
EDIT: Fully willing to admit that Lex is a pretty lame-[censored] comparison to Tyrant, given that their motivations are somewhat different, but the obvious choice there was the Justice Lords version of Superman and that's just not as interesting to talk about. Apparently, that Earth was a Utopia as well... Still, just going out and saying that technically that's a lame call on my part. I stand by everything else.
Further EDIT: And in discussion with another person, I've found that my Magneto analogue is a bit weaker as well. Bah! At least I'm 1/1 here. I shouldn't try to form arguments while jacked up on allergy and cold meds. Sorry, guys. -
[ QUOTE ]
Meh, I'm boring. I rarely drink, don't do so 'til buzzed, and have never been drunk. *shrug*
[/ QUOTE ]
Pretty much this. I tend to have a low 'tolerance' as far as certain chemical substances affecting my system (even allergy meds that don't phase some people lay me out), which for some odd reason serves as a never-ending source of confusement for people that know me well. I guess they just sort of assume my stamina/pain tolerance would carry over into that area as well.
Still, the urge has never really been there. I know plenty of people that it is there for (and used to work at a liquor store), but it's just never been high on my list of things that pertain to my interests.
Caffeine, on the other hand... -
[ QUOTE ]
Tyrant has just made sure he's the biggest bully in the playground, Lord Recluse knows he's in a world overpopulated with supers and tries to get the best on his side.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that's a good point of distinction. Tyrant's a control freak - he's made sure that most people are either under his thumb, or dead. Small pockets of resistance may be here and there, but that may be intentional to keep him from being bored. There's only one road, and it's his. Pay up or perish.
Recluse, on the other hand, is looking at things from a Darwinist/anarchy angle... He wants to be more powerful. He wants the most powerful villains on his side. How do you decide who is, and isn't, the most powerful, though? You throw them into the jungle and anyone that survives to make it up to the top without being crushed is at least capable of furthering one of his many goals. And if not, taking them down and ripping the power from them will make him more powerful.. or validate his existance as the most dangerous predator. And if nothing else, it gives him a nation of pawns to use in his plans, most of which may or may not be aware of the fact that they're being used. It also forces them to compete for survival, and competition is one of the best ways to foster innovation.
Two different ways to look at the entire villainy angle. -

I think a broom stick power would be awesome for female characters! The devs could pair it up with a dust pan power. After all street sweeping is womens work.
When the finish sweeping the streets they can hurry home to do our laundry and cook us a steak dinner. And if they ask nicely we'll take them to Icon so they can buy a pair of shoes.

Two very small questions:
1) Could we get some more information on how Vanguard technology works? Like, specifically, how they combine the magic aspects with the technological aspects of their gear. Is each piece seperate in it's technological and magical function, or is there a combination effect?
2) How common are such practices in the greater game world? It's partially relevant to a series of MA arcs I'm working on, and just a point of curiosity for me. -
*Gleams!*
You realize, of course, I'm just going to go find a mud puddle to splash around in, as pets are wont to do?
