One of my regular PnP gaming groups is enjoying it quite a bit. Very story-telling oriented, and perhaps needs an experienced GM who can adapt on the fly. Scripting would not work well in the system, so no "blue hands from hyperspace" to push the characters in a specific direction. The particular gaming group is multi-generational (with two of the players being the GM's daughter and her best friend, both college age).
It also focuses on player interaction from character development throughout. Character creation meshes two or three of the PCs backstories together (via "guest appearances") to give a coherent reason why a motley group of people would be working together.
p.s. MOMC - I think there are lots of tabletop gamers still out there, including a whole subset of those who gamed when younger and are now returning to it with their children who are old enough to participate (besides the group playing Dresden, I am also part of a group that consists of a father, mother, 12 year old, 11 year old, and my husband and myself). For a lot of folks, PnP gaming is a bit of a nostalgia thing. I would offer space at a gaming table for one of the5 groups my husband & I are part of here in Columbus, OH, but they are currently full. I can refer anyone interested in the central Ohio area to other groups with openings. -
Not disagreeing with asking for more - but there is also the Tights Top and Tights Bottom pattern called "Blasted" which looks Damaged (since someone else mentioned existing costume options).

Quote:My post was supporting ResidentBaka's suggestion, not meant as a suggestion of my own. My parentheses (define it for yourself...) was only meant to prevent side discussions about how "cheap" it might be to find codes on eBay or attend Cons.I have nothing against the idea of getting permanent costume codes in ways other than having to be physically present at a Con or buying them from eBay.
But I think we ought to be a bit more clear with our suggestions the way ResidentBaka was. If we just let the Devs run wild with this idea they might decide to link something like this to an upcoming Vet Award or some such. Imagine how many people would whine about it if these became Vet Awards at some point? -
Back to the OP - I've supported the idea of a permanent way to get costume codes that doesn't involve spending big bucks (define it for yourself, people, it means different things to different people) to either make it to a Con or buy it on eBay.
The Devs have now finally deigned to make it to an East Coast Con, but still nothing for the folks here in the middle of the US, not to mention those overseas. -
OP punctuated his thread title incorrectly, I think.
Around these parts, it's always " Oh, Great!!! Another Newb!"
We like new players, hope you stick around. -
Just curious -
Why are these pools tied to Origins? Redside Patron Pools aren't.
Is your choice of Epic Power Pool determined when you click that second button on the Character creation screen (you know, the "Origin" one where you pick Magic or Mutant or whatever)?
Also, the Patron Power Pools are different depending upon your AT - would yours also be different depending upon AT?
And I would probably pick the one with the Longbow Warden pet instead of the PPD pet - that choice seems a bit unbalanced.
Just a few things to think about to help flesh out the basic idea. I have seen others propose a Hero equivalent Patron Pool set - usually not tied to Origin. You might want to look up a few of those to see if they help you refine your idea. -
So what you are really looking for is a way to purchase boosters in South America?
I have nothing against finding a solution for that issue, but I truly don't want to see ads (even for NCSoft) anywhere in-game. Ads are to be expected in a free-2-play like Guild Wars, but not in something I am paying money for a subscription.
Surely there must be another way. -
Ick.
We have enough pop-ups already. I despise games with pop-ups that are trying to get you to buy more stuffs in microtransactions. (Hypocritically, I still play them, but hate myself while doing so_.
Please, please, please - no, never, nein, nyet, /unsigned. -
Here's one of my villains:
Unseighle (Sonic/Dark Corr, lvl 24, Triumph)
Unseighle is a Knight of the Court of the Queen of Air & Darkness. The Court had its hold unde Gimry Ridge - until the Circle of Thorns arrived.
Unseighle has been sent to the Rogue Isles to gather information about these interlopers in order to bring about their eventual crushing defeat by her Queen.
(To be added soon - And now she begins her journey back to Gimry Ridge through the streets of Paragon City, to begin the obliteration of the vermenous Circle of Thorns. To be added after she becomes a Vigilante)
I tend to be minimalist with bios. -
Nice proposal - well written, I think it captures the discussion well.

Here ya go!
1. Female
2. See the sig? I do tend to play high damaging types more than others (scrappers & stalkers, playing the latter one more like a blaster by picking targets rather than jumping in). I also play Defenders & Corruptors more like blasters - focusing on blasting over buff/debuff - but then I mostly solo.
3. Depends on the mood I'm in, although I generally prefer blueside because I know it better.
4. Hard question. None occur immediately to me. Maybe the Croatoa arcs.
5. I love the Costume Creator. I have always liked superhero games in general. The main reason is probably that the game does not require "twitch skills" (never learned them as a kid because I predate video gaming and I don't want to try to develop them.) I can solo when I want, I can team when I want. By picking teams, I can avoid anything resembling Hard Core Min/Maxers, which makes it relaxing.
6. Very few video games, although I do have an addiction to FB time-wasting games. I used to play a couple of turn based games like Heroes of Might & Magic (II-V). Many, many PnP RPGs, including trying out new Superhero titles when they come out.
7. 6 years, at first on my husband's account before I got my own.
8. 60ish, mainly on 5 servers, with a few scattered spares on other servers, including a few on my husband's account. 2 50s, 4 others over 40, several currently under 20 (GoRo Praetorians & new powersets).
9. I'm going to copy MB's answer to this one: "Nope. I'll peek at bonuses but rarely really build towards them, and the only soft cap I have intentionally is on my head. Settings are "Where I feel fine with this character." Sometimes higher levels, sometimes larger mobs, sometimes dropping it to -1/0, and sometimes changing between them on the same character depending on what I'm doing."
Hope that helps. I used to think I would be an "outlier" statistically (older gamer and female as well) but I don't think I am as far as this game goes - the answer is probably different in terms of other games. -
Please, Mr. Fulmens, sir, can we take a tour when it is complete? And possibly while still in process?
I'm always interested in seeing themed bases. -
Why am I a blapper?
Because I like to watch things melt and/or get thrown across the room.
Is there really any other reason? -
I am agreeing with M_B - that's what I meant by "holding your character in one place to be a battery". The fights here just don't stay that static.
I rarely create a character that summons a static "pet" like Spirit Tree because it seems a waste to call it out when the fight moves away or is over so quickly, well before the Tree dissipates. If a "pet" stays in one place and can't follow me around, it's frequently useless to a fast-moving team or soloer.
And I truly do have questions about whether the set could be effective solo. Even Empathy & Kin have powers that buff the owner of the powerset while allowing it to move with the fight to wherever it goes.
I understand you are still creating art for a powerset and may not want to lay out a proposed power without the art, but the 2 powers I have seen so far don't seem to mesh well with how combat goes in the game - what else are you thinking of adding? Perhaps those powers could overcome the qualms brought up so far.
P.S. I mentioned my slight concern over powersets defined by Origins because I won't be the only one seeing it that way - but the forced "stay in one place and your team has to stay there as well to get the buff" is the real limitation of the proposed set. -
Add me - I will bring something that blasts stuff - maybe buffs/debuffs. I have 12 to choose from on this server.
-
But what does the set DO (besides hold your character in one place - to be pounded on by your opponents while acting like a battery for a team)? How would you solo with the character?
Your screenshots are very pretty, but without a whole, whole lot more details, they are just artwork. Not a powerset.
Also, I'm not a fan of a powerset that seems to be trying to limit itself to a single origin in a game that really doesn't pay much attention to that particular mechanic. -
Quote:How, pray tell, does someone log on as a Redname/Dev if one is not a Redname/Dev?AE And base has their own dev? Did they actually come out and say that or do they just log on different forum names so they look like different ppl?
Yeah, as I said upthread, Sunstorm has exceedingly rarely been seen in the Base Construction forum since I-13 dropped. He got co-opted into other GoRo stuff, I believe. -
Quote:I agree with this.I don't know. I just don't think adding another dev will add anything.
I mean they have an AE dev, much hasn't been done for AE in ages.
There are issues that those in the MA forums have been discussing for MONTHS and nothing has been done. And again, there ALREADY IS an a dev dedicated to it.
I just think that unless you get the FULL dev team (or more than just one person at the very least) focused on a issue, not much will be done by just adding another name to the door.
Heck, the Base Builders also had a dev (or so we thought) - but after I13 dropped, Sunstorm was no more to be seen in the Base Construction forum.
Devoting a Dev sounds nice in theory - but given the complexities involved, it would seem like a long training time for that single person, during which PvP would continue to languish.
Attention from the Dev Team - sure, it may be PvP's "turn". But a PvP Dev probably won't have the desired effect in close to a short timeframe. -
When I saw the title of this thread, my first thoughts were the various items we see in the environment that are out of scale for the default height of a character in the costume creator - and how much that bugged the heck out of me when I come across it.
It's really immersion-breaking for me, especially in building a base (I know, Sam, not a big deal for you since you don't build bases). There are many items, especially Arcane ones, that seem to be much larger than those similar items found in Oran-Bega.
Laughably oversize swords and guns wouldn't bother me as much as those items - but when I want that effect, I just scale the character as physically smaller - the big-a** guns for DP and legacy weapons like the legacy broadsword and MM pistols are comically huge for that character (especially since all my characters are female). And since there are items in the current environment that are already out of scale (in my eyes), running with a character generated in the costume creator as being on the small side is no more immersion-breaking than coming across any other oversize item in the environment. -
Quote:Having only been on one failed attempt (with a Rad/Dark Defender and 6 years of playing under my belt) - what are the appropriate powersets and skills?Sorry if I'm not sensitive to some of the complaints. After completing CoP a handful of times only a day or two after GR launched, it just seemed very doable. Set a time for capable players with appropriate powersets and skills to show up to give yourselves the best chance to succeed. If you can't throw all that together, you deserve to fail. Like my Pirates in MLB for the past 18 seasons.
--------------
You perfectly explained why it's not worth my time.
Won't even bother mentioning the 10 merits.
If you love it have at it.
Also, most of the posts in the thread about successfult attempts seems to imply that Ventrilo or other voice communication is needed? I'm not a big fan of content that requires voice communication - is it really that important?
I'm just trying to understand what makes a "good" team for this trial and where the shortcomings of others have occurred. I don't want it made "easier" but I also want to know if something more than the tools generally available in-game are enough - if not, then it would appear to be badly implemented.
But I have huge gaps in my personal knowledge, so I'm asking here. -
I understand your concern, but since we the players aren't mind readers, we really can't say whether the Devs plan to "address" it.
Have you PM'd one or more of them? -

Possibly OP does not speak English and is relying on a faulty translator program to post, but after M_B's translation (which I think is pretty accurate) - umm, no thanks?
