That would surprise me. Going by the numbers it should be at least as good as several other Brute sets. In particular Battle Axe and War Mace have a pretty similar power selection although Broadsword has a much shorter recharge on it's cone and trades one of the high recharge single target attacks for Parry.

Quote:It probably wouldn't be to bad if the devs did it for the regular sprint as long as they didn't do it for the prestige sprints (although this would no doubt generate complaints from people). However I think they have refrained from doing this for a reason. The Blessing of the Zephyr set has EXTREMELY powerful set bonuses for anyone looking to build up their positional defense. To get bonuses of this level you normally have to 5 or 6 slot a set. By not allowing sprint to take it it means you have to sacrifice both a power choice and two slots to take the set, allowing sprint to take it means you just sacrifice two slots.why am I complaining? because since all you need is more than 1 "travel" power to slot both the winters gift and Blessing of the Zeffer on one character and still get all the benifits or 6 slot 1 travel power. PLEASE FLAG SPRINT FOR UNIVERSAL. there is no danger in doing it.
Please calm down this isn't as big a problem as you make it out to be. The game is to some extent balanced around the assumption that all characters will take a travel power. You get 24 power choices and have 9 primary, 9 secondary, 4 epic and 2 for travel + prerequisite. Obviously few people build their characters like that but the progression assumes you will take a travel power, by not taking one you're gaining two additional power choices but you have to accept that there are sacrifices beyond moving a bit slower.
Your main interest is in the global IOs from the sets correct? In that case an Arch/Dev can slot a Karma -Kb in Cloaking Device which is enough for most NPCs. As for the Winter's Gift Global? Honestly it isn't that good, I've tried it on a few characters and it can be useful but i wouldn't say it's game changing. It's actually the same magnitude as the one from the empowerment station so you might try running with that for a bit and see if you notice the difference. (As a side note, compared to using a LOTG +7.5% IO, you'd need to get hit with more than 37.5% worth of recharge debuffs for the Winter's Gift IO to be a better use of a slot) -
It's actually once you hit 41. You'll get an option for an Epic power pool if you're a hero (a second button will appear underneath the "choose a new power pool" one in the level up screen). If you're a villain you need to do one of the patron arcs first though (don't worry about which one, you can pick any pool regardless of patron).
EDIT: Also, 1,000 posts -
Quote:Going solo 25 to 50 in a week without playing 24 hours a day does sound like it's exploitative to me but without knowing the arc being played or the exact time frame there's no way to say for certain. There are new level-up missions but I'm not sure if they are exploits or not. Most of them I've been shown by well-meaning friends were no better or worse than finding a good farming mission in the regular content.
However, a friend of mine somehow managed to solo a blaster from about 25 to 50 in around a week (playing a few hours at a time) using some AE mission he'd found. He said it felt like cheating but he really wanted to get to 50. I have no idea why he thought it was cheating or what type of mission it was.
It's not impossible that there's a loophole in the XP rules the devs put in place. During the open beta I found one that worked best for lower level characters. I reported it at the time and I assume they fixed it but I'll admit I never checked in the released patch. -
Quote:Are we playing the same game here? The way the game is setup a balanced team is by no means required for most tasks. Team play is ludicrously unbalanced in favor of defenders and controllers to the point that a team of 8 of them will make mincemeat out of most content (they might have trouble with the STF although they can do it). I believe the overall best team is generally considered to be eight Fire/Rad controllers with leadership. How is that in any way a balanced team composition.Hard to make too many sensible comments re Lost Vikings because I've never heard of it before, but one thing that struck me when I first started playing this game is how similar it is to AD&D in team make-up where the characters have their specific roles they must fill and only a good balanced team can make a real impact - whereas in some other games I sense that things are less clearly defined.
Personally I like the diversity here - I have no problem playing a character that's impossible to solo - in many ways that's what makes the game fun for me and I've tended to stay away instinctively from toons that can solo because for the most part I find soloing kind of dull.
That's my own take and not everyone else will feel the same (I hope) but I don't mind the fact that some ATs - or to be more correct some power combinations - don't solo very well.
In general you can make a team with any eight ATs you want, you just have to adjust your play style a bit. Got 8 scrappers? Berserk scrapper-lock. 8 Blasters? The spawn melts before it can do much damage. 8 Tanks? Herd the entire map and take your time.
Quote:I'm guessing you have very little experience with good Tanks.
To say your Storm/Elec can out Tank MOST Tanks is a very ignorant and conceited thing to say...and I as a Tank take offense to that.
Sure...go ahead and say you can "Tank" when needed but do not outright state that you are better than most Tanks at doing what Tanks are made to do. -

I can see practical reasons for doing AE rather than radio/contact missions at low levels. First off even with the many temp powers available travel is still kinda slow at low levels and AE eliminates that. Secondly there are several NPC groups that are extremely annoying at low levels (Circle of Thorns is the primary offender and Vahzilok probably come in second) so setting missions against the less annoying types makes sense. Finally for those who don't use the market low level characters don't have a lot of cash, running some AE missions and using the tickets for rare salvage can help a lot with enhancements.
That being said I tend to prefer doing a sewer team to 8 or 9 then radios until 20. It's pretty quick and you get some useful temp powers to help out with leveling. -
Honestly, a lot of it is people putting in lowball bids in hope of a deal (either due to someone wanting to sell in a hurry or a pricing error). Chances are the single recipes are at or just above the going rate but the bids are to low. Many bids and one for sale means demand is greater than supply so the price is probably not to high.

It's a global IO so the only requirement is that you don't exemplar more than three levels below the IO level. Using the power or having access to it are not requirements (i.e. you can put a level 10 version in your level 49 power and it'll work down to level 7).

Union mandated smoking break for the hamsters that keep it running.

The annoying part is I was about two attacks away from finishing the mission I was on so now I'll have to restart it. Oh well, more expees I guess.

Well it looks like it's down again. I got mapserved and am now getting the "cannot connect to database" error when I try to reconnect.

Quote:I can see the reasoning and from a fairness point of view it would be a nice gesture for NCSoft to make (although stick with the current friend system where if you reactivate after 90-days inactive and pay for a month you get 15days credit). However, from a business point of view it makes no sense for NC Soft to do this. People who choose to reactivate their account without a friend invite are already planning to return. The purpose of the reinvite system is to provide a carrot both to encourage people to bug their friends to come back and encourage said friends to reactivate. As I understand it, an active subscriber can send an activation code to a former subscriber that allows them to try the game for a few days with their old account reactivated. It would be a nice feature to remove the need to be invited back, and simply allow former subscribers (after 90 days of being inactive, or whatever the current policy is) to do a trial reactivation from the account management page.
As a temporary fix, some kind hero could send an invite a friend back code to bpm195@gmail.com -
Quote:Drops might be lacking on some items, however the devs could easily fix that if they chose to by increasing drop rates, the fact that they don't suggests they want to keep those recipes rare.Ok, At this point i'm sorry I said ANYTHING! I would make a full retraction if possible. I still stand that the drops are far too lacking on several key enhancements that I am looking for and the 40 - 50 mil pricetags are completely outrageous. But you people and your inane replys that border on harassment really take the cake.
- - - END OF LINE - - -
As for why people reacted the way they did to your comment it is not in any way harassment you have a horrible idea and got called on it, but yes there was a large quantity of sarcasm. The reason is basically two-fold. First off a price cap will not increase supply in items, in fact it would have exactly the opposite effect. This is obvious to anyone who has any knowledge of economics (heck spend an hour reading wikipedia). The other reason is that as LISAR commented threads complaining about market prices are EXTREMELY common and the majority of posters are completely fed up with them hence while we reply and take the time to explain why it's a bad idea we tend to allow sarcasm to color our answers. I'm not going to apologize for this since using the search feature would have allowed you to turn up several threads discussing this very topic. -
It looks like the hamsters that keep the sever running all collapsed . I had a nice team going in Striga to.
EDIT: Guardian and Justice are down to so it's mostly the west coast servers. -
Illicity covered it pretty well, the best method is to team with someone who can grant you protection. There are two defender sets that do get personal mez protection, Traps and Forcefield. These sets both get a dispersion bubble that provides defense and pretty decent mez protection to all teammates including themselves (it's not as good as most scrappers/tanks get but it covers the big three).
Outside of that you could take the leaping pool, Combat Jumping protects from Immobilization and Acrobatics protects from Holds and Knockback. There are no powers that provide Stun protection but Heal Self provides 48.44% resistance to stuns which is about a 32% duration reduction.
Finally bring a belt full of break frees and chomp down. Each one gives 10 points of status protection for 30 seconds. The larger ones last longer and give more protection so they're better but you have to buy them at WW. -
-
Ok, here is how it works (as far as I know). You can purchase any version of the game regardless of where you live (you should probably purchase the US version since that gives you access to more servers and they'll be closer to you than the Europe version).
You will need to purchase one of the following to activate your account:
City of Heroes® Architect Edition
City of Heroes® Good Versus Evil Edition
City of Heroes® Mac Special Edition
These will all give you a free month of play (along with a few other goodies). However in order to fully activate your account and receive the month of play you will need to start a subscription. This generally means use a credit card to sign up for a month then cancel before the free month is up if you decide not to stay. You can also use time cards but will probably have trouble getting them in your area. -
Quote:I would also say a magic origin robot would be one that was not built using magic but gained the ability to use magic (like the Tin Mage).Magic would be either a) a robot built using magical means -- which would supplant the Natural or Tech origin -- or b) one who was given powers or sentience through magic -- replacing the Science origin. In either case, the name "golem" would probably be better than "robot", although robot does suggest metal or synthetic construction whereas golem would tend to be more natural materials.

Yes, but it's one of those topics that comes up at least once a month. We reiterate the same arguments on both sides of the fence. Occasionally it degenerates into a huge flame war with pointless name calling until mod8 locks the thread.

Quote:I really don't think that standing low ball bids drive up the prices on items. It's simple supply and demand. If the standing bids were at or above the natural market price of the item then the market would clear over time and the number of bids would decrease. We actually got a good example of this in reverse during the AE craze. There are plenty of tier 3 common salvage items that have a standard price less than 250 and several thousand in standing stock. When the AE hit and the rate of generation for new salvage went down this stock got bought up at steadily increasing prices until it settled into a new equilibrium.I don't think a bunch of people bidding 1 inf should control / drive up the prices of items. Since you can easily do this and while it looks like 300 people may be bidding on a item. 150 of those bids could just be 1 inf while the others are legit bids that are actually really bidding on a item. Its not flipping that bothers me so much, its the 1 inf bidders. It kinda makes you wonder why items such as luck charms have nearly always had 8000 - 10000 bids on them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_clearing
There might be a psychological implication where a high number of bids encourages people to overpay but that's the fault of the buyers not people hoping for a bargain. Removing bids frequently might bring prices down a little bit but I don't think it's going to help the people that you want it to. The majority of those excess bids are almost certainly flippers who will just keep relisting anyway. -
A few people worked it out a while back it was in the 500-600 range IIRC. Try using the search feature to dig up the thread.
-
I disagree. Putting a time limit on sales might help since it would force people to price their items low enough to guarantee a sale in the appropriate time frame. However canceling bids would hurt people who don't marketeer significantly more than people who do. People who are flipping tend to check and refresh their bids on a less than 24 hour basis anyway so it wouldn't impact them. On the other hand people who play infrequently and put in low bids to try and get bargains would lose out. The only downside for marketeers is that we'd have to store excess influence in stock or on alts rather than as bids for level 53 recipes.
