My guess on the true identity of eye patch lady in no order:
-The older Amy from the Girl Who Waited.
-the Rani
-Romana -
Having seen the episode last night, I will purchase it on iTunes.
-Eye Patch Lady, ok we know why she wears the eye patch, but where still no clue as to who she really is, her working with the Silence, reminds a lot of how the Master would work with whatever alien race, rather than being a random human flunky, and it seems her opposition to the Doctor seems a bit personal.
-It was a nice bow to the Brigadier, I do think that is one thing missing from this series, is a Brigadier type figure.
-Rory is awesome (and for that point, so is River and Amy)
-I do wonder now if River might have a life beyond the Library
-Also, going back to the Doctor lies, I'm also thinking she didn't burn up all of the rest of her regenerations healing the Doctor( one maybe, but all 10 or so regens she had remaining, and thats assuming she had the 12 regen limit).
-I admit, I was thinking rather than getting past dying the way he did, I was thinking it would have been a doppleganger instead but this way works
Also it seems to me hints are, they'll get back to the Other aspects the Cartmel Masterplan( I hope) -
Starfire really does represent with the New New DC Universe in a lot of ways( i.e. that you have a character with a completely different background and personality than formerly).
It does make me wonder though.
Are they writting with popular stereotype of a comic book geek in mind,
or
did they
actually find people who fit that stereotype to write???
Pre-Flashpoint Starfire
-strong willed, passionate, loyal, strong moral compass
Post-Flashpint Starfire
-an Alien Superheroine who seems to act like she is on roofies
If anything, she's acting like she is the Crime Syndicate version of Starfire -
As mentioned, he isn't absorbing 100% of the kinetic force,
for example, if the Hulk hits him with the force equal to being hit with 20,000 lbs( 10 tons), he's still feeling 200lbs worth of that force, which will still hurt.
He had no special protection against non-kinetic damage, the Human Torch could make him into toast, Phoenix could fry his brain, etc. He chemical or gas attacks would hurt him.
There are of course two special trumps,
Rogue can absorb his powers, and depowering him
Being around Leach will automatically turn off his powers like any other mutant
While his exact power levels does vary with writter, one thing is consistant, he's been portrayed more as a general type than an actual fighter type. Meaning it generally isn't his style to go toe to toe with the X-men, he generally has his people actually do it.
In CoX terms, the closest thing he would be, a SS/Merc/Willpower Brute Mastermind -
I am going to assume the first month or two sales will be good, followed by a nose dive. People will buy a comic once or twice out of curosity, but if the quality isn't there, well.... Lets be blunt here, DC is going for quantity over quality here.
I think a few things will cripple their efforts here,
when comics were a $1 or less, it was easier for younger readers to get into comics,
Now with the avg cost being $3 or $4 that changes things,
Add in availability, I seem to remember when I was kid, being able to find comics at a lot more places than I can now( yes I am a child of the '70's), now outside of specialty shops. I may find at best a handful of comics on sale. -
Let's see,
Green Arrow now resembles Roy, no idea how Roy now fits in, I assume Mia no longer exists, as does Conner and Arrowette, since GA is too young. And assume no romance angle with Dinah. I would've had him being one of the older heroes around, and made minor changes
Starfire,
Other than sharing the same name, powers and look, not the same. They basically nuked the classic Titans history( Beast Boy, Cyborg, Donna, Dick, etc), and not for the better.
Flash Family
basically they were nuked
Batman Family
its hard to reconcile there being minimale changes, when his entire family is MIA, or very different histories, Cassandra or Stephanie anyone?
Secret Six
<sigh>
Catwoman <sigh>
I really could go on and on, -
On a Blaster,
Concept-Devices is the best fit, and actually works ok
Helping it on the AE side, MM, plus it does have some nice utility and control aspects
Helping out on the control side to help with damage mitigation, Ice
If your wanting a BR Blapper for some reason, my bet is Dark, it does have -to-hit -
In beta I only tinkered around with some of the new sets, and the exported sets, but really didn't have the time to get too involved in Beta. The other day I was looking at the enhancement screen on my new BR/Time Rupter, and noticed that my ranged attacks mentioned being able to take Corrupter Enhancements Sets, I checked the market to see if I could find a listing for AT specific Enhancements sets, and then the new online shop thing, didn't find anything there,
Whats the story in this?
Is what I am seeing a placeholder for something they'll impliment in the next Issue or half Issue, or do we actually have this now somewhere? -
the only problem I have with WH is that it you have to wait until 28 to get it.
Waiting that long might've made sense back before they changed the recharge and duration of AE holds way back when, but in the current system, it is a long time to get a viable soft control power, that you can use at least every other fight. Some Controller builds might be able to get away with using the AE immobilize combine with AE debuffs, but for a Dom, it really does draw agro
Moving WH to 12 I would be fine with
changing DS into something actually useful
My idea is a variation of what other have mentioned,
New Power called Gravity Shift or Gravity Flux
for a period of time, over an area you alternate low gravity and high gravity
actual in game effect would be either a targeted AE or a ranged location based AE, that produces a Knockup effect( Ice has its Knockdown, Fire has its Knockback, we don't really have an AE knockup control power already) -
Time IMO is just a well built set
It took Poison being exported to Rupters and Controllers for the Devs to realize the fact that its two ST Debuffs really should be AE debuffs. Or that its Poison Trap was the weaker cousin of Traps
Things I would like to see with Poison
1) Make Alkaloid a Aura Heal from a ST targeted heal
2) Make its Poison Trap a Ranged (Location AE), unlike Traps, you don't have Seekers, and unlike a MM you don't have minions to distract, even devices has its Cloak and smoke to help with deploying its bombs
AND/OR
Make Venomous Gas a Ranged (Location AE, its a great power, BUT, it does encourage being in melee to fully leverage, and its for an AT w/o mez protection. I'm not against Aura Toggles on Rupters or Defenders, but Toggle Auras in other sets, actually work well other powers within the set, where in Poison you have two Cone Debuffs that require being in range, and a toggle aura that requires you to be in melee range, -
I went with BR/Time myself, and I like the build,
I could see Traps, FF(if defender), and Dark also working well
sets I don't think there is a lot of synergy,
Kin- as mentioned before, it requires another set with some damage mitigation to work well
Poison- It work better if its tier 1 power was an aura heal
TA-I have my own dissatisfaction with this set, given its a control/debuff set with no self heal, its -to-hit is super weak, and there is of course the redraw
The remaining sets come in the middle IMO -
Even swapping out DS and WH would improve this set, for both Controllers and Doms. The best thing and worst thing about DS, its a power that is as situational as it gets, which makes it very much skippable, and in many instances not the best power to use. Heck, it would be a vast improvement if it was similar to Illusions Click Group Invisibility power, but as a PS
-
the 200 years gap, also gives the Grand Moff can use to explain away a lot of stuff, for example apparantly River and the Doctor had quite a few adventures in this period, heck they could've had kids during that period. And its also not to say that he didn't have other companions during that time, with that said, there is a special relationship he does have with Amy and Rory
-
For a 'rupter?
Easily the Snipe is easily the most skipable
I like Aim, but I can see living w/o it
Distrinigrate is must to take, but you can live with it being 4 slotted with 3 recharge and 1 accuracy
On times side, the ST buff is easily the most skippable -
Quote:<sigh> I do hope they sprinkle a special here there, the sad part is, there is only two episodes left in this season (too bad they can't do a 22 episode run, as is standard here in the states)There are a few things wrong here.
From what I've read. he's said he'll be back in some fashion, heavily implying he won't be a regular companion.
Additionally, from what I've read, the new Series will start airing in 2012, but in the autumn, and finish in 2013 since it'll be split into two like this season. -
Quote:agreed, the Rory we saw when we first met him, is a very different Rory we saw at the end of God Complex, I admit I am curious as to his activities during those 2000 years he spent guarding Amy.I quite like that Rory simply has nothing left to fear since, when you look at it, the main big fears he should have, he's already lived through.
Spoilers!
He lost his child this season and just the last episode he lost his wife, he's lived through losing both the things he holds dear to him, so what left is there for a man to fear who has lived over 2,000 years ontop of the stuff above. So he has no faith in God, he has no faith in the Doctor (especially after last episode), he only has faith in one thing, himself.
Wow Rory is all kind of awesome. -
I pretty much agree with what everyone said above, a couple things that caught my eye here,
-really older Amy really did age well, more so than you would expect.
-After 36 years, she really did seem to develop a suprising amount of technical knowledge, more so than you would think.
-I also saw a little bit of the 7th Doctor in this episode( McCoys Doctor was one of my favorites)
-I'll also add, I think older Amy will become the eyepatch lady, since we know the Doctor lies, we can't be certian the reason he didn't let her in, was paradox, or some other reason.
But overall a very good episode.
My only real issue is that we have this advanced planet under medical isolation, that can't tell when a non-native accidently gets into the system -
as it makes me sad here, if your going for only damage, go blaster
Corrupters in general do have higher survivability, and have a lot more tricks than blasters do.
I will mention that Defiance benefits the most in sets with quick recharges, and low animation.
Scourge is best leveraged in the Rain powers -
As an AT I think Doms are where they need to be right now, stuff I would like to see
-Grav Control revamped, Wormhole moved up, and Dimension Shift replaced with something a little more useful
-Illusion Control
-Dark Control/Dark Assault sets
-A sort of Tech oriented Control Set
-A sort of Tech/Natural oriented Assault set -
Of people I know who have actually seen it, its fairly decent, I think the real issue here, outside of the comic book community it is a lesser known IP, a better choice to spend the $, would have been WW. Really in order for DC/ Marvel to really grow their business, they really need to pull in people who don't currently buy and read, the existing audiiance will spend only X of $ to buy Y titles
-
Quote:Didn't they try this strategy before back in the late 70's, and it didn't work then? They're struggling to sell 60 titles now and they want to sell 80? Methinks Didio has been sniffing the ink too long.
honestly, I'd prefer fewer titles than more
1 or more titles for their A-Listers and maybe a few for SOME of their B-Listers
A number of team books
and a number of anthology type series to feature some of their lesser known teams and heroes -
Quote:<signed>I have found this to be generally true of most writers. The more freedom they get from editorial control, the worse the writing gets over time.
Writers are like kids. Give them too much freedom and they just break everything and demand more. We need look no further than the Ultimate U to see that.
And lets be honest here, DC has gotten a little too happy with rebooting the Universe, its not like it has even been 5 years since the last time they did it. While I might not always agree with the directions Marvel has went, the fact is, they haven't rebooted once. -
Quote:Bab's becoming Batgirl again, a definite demotion, in many ways Bab's as Oracle has grown a lot and isn't the same babs who was Batgirl, and in many ways much more effective, I'd rather see her grow the Oracle role even moreNo it's not. There are better candidates to take up the mantle or retain it and not move the character back... Like Cassie Cain rebecoming Batgirl would be a step forward for her... Stephanie staying Batgirl would be her moving forward... Barbara would be her moving backwards....
Read more BoP... She has gained some movement back already due to various things.
Cassandra, only slight demotion, she grew out of the Batgirl role, and is now at the same stage as Dick was when he first established himself in the Nightwing Role, she needs to develop her Nightwing
Stephanie Keeping her as Batgirl would be ideal( but improve the custome please), so if Bab's becomes Batgirl, so does that make the second Bat Family role from? Although I will add, she would've been fine if she had stayed Spoiler to begin with -
Quote:I think the primary factor there is the fact that the Olympics will be in London that year, so it shouldn't be a suprise, or be considered as a vote of no confidence by the BBC brass. Also, Tennant's year off season, really wasn't that far off from a full season. Could you imagine for a bit if they announced it was renewed for 2013 but with the same length as an American network series( for example Law and Order averaged around 23 episodes per season)Absolutely. It's no coincidence that Baker was Tennant's favorite Doctor as a child.
Meanwhile, the unfortunate news that Series 7 "won't be a full series of Doctor Who in 2012, but a special run for the anniversary in 2013" has broken on Twitter. -
Quote:the only bit I let out, is that the Tyrion has quite a few good scenes coming. BTW I wonder what the actor's thought on the role? I would have to imagine its the biggest dwarf role in at least generationI have read the books, I thought it was hilarious when I saw the trailer, saw he was playing Ned and saw what a big deal they made of his character. Nice move HBO...hire a well-known actor to play the "protagonist" of the show and promote it, knowing you won't have to pay a well-known actor's salary beyond the first season.
So are they playing the "who's gonna die next/who's gonna survive the series" guessing game yet, while you remain suspiciously quiet?
