On a side note, you can permanently prevent the speed component of speed boost by talking to "Null the Gull" in Pocket D (on top of the truck in the villain-side alcove). He can also remove a couple of other effects - not sure if the ice armor graphic is one of 'em, though.

Edit: Oh yeah, topic... Don't stress OP - I probably would've sent a /tell to the other teammates asking if they wanted to ditch the guy before I quit.

Any chance we can get hubcap-styled shields, maybe as designs on the non-reinforced round shields? Neither the manhole cover nor the targe look quite right on my honky-tonk Valkyrie.

Oh, in that case it's a win, because it's just too goofy to be a fail.
  7. Not a mention of Midnight Rider by the Allman Brothers Band yet, huh? I'm speechless. I know some of you know better...

I'll also confess to the following:
Do It Again by Steely Dan
September by Earth, Wind, and Fire

(The last one's the only disco song I'll allow in my car - and I'm really ticked that I can't find a recording that does justice to the brass section)

I'd remove the copy protection from Spore and then I'd play Spore with real planets. Then I'd play billiards.

Yep - the music right now is just random noise thrown in our faces; it does little to set a tone or give the different areas their own character. I may get slammed (or ignored) for this, but good lessons could be learned from the background music in DCUO or even WoW.

Wouldn't the set of imaginable possibilities have to be fully mappable to a subset of actual possibilities for this to be true?

To see what I mean, compare the set of all integers evenly divisible by two with the set of all integers evenly divisible by three. Both sets are infinite, and the set of integers that belong to both sets are infinite, but the set of integers that only belong to one set and not the other is also infinite.

Substitute "imaginable possibilities" for "integers evenly divisible by two," and "actual possibilities" for "integers evenly divisible by three," and it seems like it's possible to have some rather ordinary things that never occur, even with infinite universes.

Sorry, what were we talking about?

Naw, the NCSoft purchasing system is borked on this side of the pond too. I can't speak for the referral issues, but maybe try contacting a community rep here per this thread.

Missions: Sometimes the locations of objectives seem very vague at best, not sure if i need to be in the underground or up top when I accept some of them and often don't have a marker or anything I can identify. Mission text doesn't seem to help much and I am just wondering if I am experiencing "Blonde" moments or is this the norm?
I'll throw out another possibility in addition to what people have already said. If you accept a mission, but it's located in a different zone, you won't get a marker for it (like if you accept the mission in Atlas Park, but it's located in King's Row, for example). However, the mission's zone should be listed in your navigation bar (the compass-like thing at the top of your screen). Once you enter that zone, the marker should show up normally.

Alliances: I am currently betraying the PDD for the Resistance and are doing missions for the resistance. Why is it that I can beat the tar out of both factions if I feel like it? I thought I would just breeze past whoever I was aligned with and that they would be friendly but both seem capable of attacking at random. Is this because i am tricking one side, (the PDD) and doing resistance missions or am I just being blonde for the fourth time?
In character explanation: The Resistance is a loosely organized group of people whose only common goal is taking down Cole - beyond that, they have different ideas about how things should be done, and more than a few of them are just in it for the explosions. So some of the Resistance folks don't like you for ideological reasons, or see you as a threat to their own ambitions, or just want to pick a fight.

Works for Loyalists, too - even though the PPD are officially on your side, they resent being seen as nothing more than "grunts" of Cole's Empire and really don't like being shown up by some upstart punk. So they might be tempted to drop you in some back alley and blame the Resistance.

Out of character reason: There really are no "alliances" in this game.

Based on the character pics you've posted? Not really, no - the third pic you posted raises an eyebrow, but it's not outside the bounds (so to speak) of artistic license, AFAIC.

Even though the CoH lore isn't what I'd call complete in any sense, more than half my character bios would probably violate a strict reading of it. I know a lot of the relevant lore; I just like my stories better. In this sense, too much attention to historic, mythic, and/or cosmological detail seems limiting in a game like CoH, where you can make almost any sort of character you want.

Paradoxically, though, I like a fair amount of detail in storylines, and if they weave around and connect with other stories, so much the better. That's not to say that I want to read pages of expository stuff, but enough to provide some context and some justification for what my character is doing. So much the better if the story can impart a sense of "things are happening" beyond your immediate actions.
  19. I tend to dial it down on my female characters. I always thought the default chest setting for athletic was just a little too big for an athlete anyway (except maybe "pro" wrestlers (or pro "wrestlers")). Depends on the costume too, though. With a jacket or trenchcoat, it's not so noticeable, but anything tight and, well, they're right out there like eggs on a plate.

Edit: Just saw your last post. Really? People think the one in the leather jacket is big? (...or two in the jacket - whatever.) She actually looks much smaller to me than the other two.

In lower levels, sure. On paper, maybe. But in practice at higher levels, that hasn't been my experience. Much of the following observations will depend on the composition, skill, and experience of your team, but they're observations because, well, I've seen 'em often enough to observe the patterns...
    • Fulcrum Shift will make both +endrec and +recharge less significant for DPS, as it'll take significantly fewer attacks to wipe a spawn.
    • Decently slotted Transference will make +endrec virtually meaningless.
    • ID will keep squishes from flopping around like fishes for KB spam; SB won't.
    • Transfusion will keep them in the fight; SB won't.
    • SB can disrupt the pacing and rhythm of a team - if people go off in their own directions, SB makes it more likely they won't realize their mistake before it's too late.
    • SB can make it tougher to place cone and PBAoE attacks.
    • SB is hell in caves. Especially the layer cake room.

Don't get me wrong, SB is definitely very useful, and I made it a point to keep people buffed with it in my day. But as a recovering Kinetics defender, I could tell you stories where teams mopped the floor with multiple AVs in record time without it, or where previously coherent teams scattered to the four winds and died lonely deaths after a round of SB. Where AV health bars actually went up when I used SB in lieu of my other powers, or when my team wiped for lack of heals after zipping off without me when I missed a Siphon Speed.

The best arguments I've heard for Speed Boost is that it really helps at lower levels, or with powers that have long cooldowns (like nukes and AoE holds), and I'll readily grant both. However, my personal best argument for holding on to it is just to prevent all the snipping and yipping you'll get for not having it...
  21. About a third of my characters looked "right" from the start. Most of the rest required minor tweaking once I got 'em out into normal lighting or got a good look at the animations in action. Only a couple have undergone wholesale reworking.

My current project, however, seems to need a tweaking session every time I log in. I think I've got it down, but I'm still kinda waffling between the bluer blue-green and the greener blue-green. I like the latter better, but it doesn't match the skin color - and, unfortunately, the next greener skin is too green (and pale) for my tastes... Very frustrating.
  22. Wow, seems like not that long ago that I first saw a discman. The whole concept of compact discs was still new to me; never even heard of them until I got to college. Went on exchange in France, and a Swiss student staying in the same house gave the landlord a Sony discman as a gift.

What? A portable CD player? The very concept blew my mind...

Ok, maybe not a walkman story, but whatevah
  23. Most of my characters fall into two types. The first are mythical beings with a modern twist - so far, these include two biker elves, a mercenary Djinn with a gun, and most recently a Sidhe superspy.

Second are the true normals - humans who don't have anything "super" about them except the will to persevere. Unfortunately, these characters tend to languish after a bit; at some point, it gets increasingly hard for me to see them as non-supers as they accumulate abilities, which kinda kills the fun.

I've only had one "four-color" character. Thought I had an original story for her, but along the way I suddenly realized, "crap, she's Wonder Woman with clothes." Also have exactly one (1) ghost-like character who refuses to be defined any further than that.
