How do procs like "Ghost Widow's Embrace: chance for psionic damage" work in a non-targeted AOE hold, like Volcanic Gases or Poison Gas Trap?
Is it different for something like "Explosive Strike: Chance for Smashing Damage" in Earthquake?
What's the consensus on whether it's worth using these procs with these sorts of AOE controls? -
So, my first Widow just reached 24, and I'm totally torn.
Do I become a Night Widow, or a Fortunata?
With my arachnos soldier, the choice seemed much more simple (spider on back or not?)
So, I'd love to hear from people who loved playing their widows, on either side. I don't really care if one side would "beat" the other in a fight. I'm much more concerned with how much fun you had playing them, and why. -
It's moot anyway, since I can't even log into my own account ---- forgot my stupid Security Question. Ugh, what a pain.
-
That just about says it all.
I have a friend who I play with, who doesn't have the dough to pay for the extra add on packs. I thought it'd be nice to buy them for him, so he has more costume and emote options.
Ideas? -
Quote:The problem with sending binds to players who are blue is that most of them are at Wentworths, at their base, or at the tailors. A message to them won't be read till their finished with their chores --- and they're often in no position to team. You should stick to using friendly binds to ask solo players who are blue.
I'm looking for those solo-ers in missions, who could use a little company. Then, I can join their mission mid-stream, and if the pairing works, run a couple more mission with them. -
Quote:Could you give me a link to your guide?Take a look at my guide. It will tell you how to use /sea and gives you a nice macro.
Quote: Secondly, the macro (without quotes) is "/macro ask t $target, Hello, would you like to join ________"
A mission solo player WILL NOT be in yellow.
That macro wouldn't do me much good, since I'm not looking to recruit for a team. I don't want someone to join me. I'm looking to join someone else's team. Or perhaps to team with a solo player.
And you are wrong about yellow. If a player is solo, in a mission, they often show as yellow, because they are incapable of joining a team while in a mission. They are not, however, incapable of inviting another player to join them in mission.
I see it all the time. -
I've been playing for a while, but (due to cross-server alt-o-holism) I've never been a part of an SG in any serious way. I do, however, love to do pick-up groups. For me, the most fun part of the game is seeing how different powers compliment each other and work together.
I tend to prefer duos or small teams. Back in the day, it was easy to duo. I'd make a support character and search for damage types that were solo in missions. I crafted a friendly bind, explaining that I'd love to join the for a few missions, and could almost always find new and interesting company.
Now, I'm having trouble doing that.
In the search window, the heroes/villains in blue (ie Unteamed) who are listed as being "In Mission" are most often at their SG bases, due to an ancient bug, which has never been remedied.
In fact, I've found, that there are usually solo players out there, but they are colored yellowto indicate that they are not available for teaming. This yellow text color is, of course, shared by anyone on a TF, making it impossible to tell the teammates on a TF from the in mission solo-player.
This small, seemingly insignificant bug has totally hamstrung my ability to play, simply because I can't find a workaround to meet other soloers. They don't bother to read the LFG channels.
So my only alternative, is to craft a tell-bind that includes an apology to the recipient, in the event that they're in a TF, since I'm incapable of determining it myself. Can someone remind me why the team search window didn't have a more useful color system (or more useful filtering).
Or, I could watch the team window, and try to figure out who's on a team by when they enter or leave a mission. Ridiculous. -
Quote:Ah but often leaves someone out.On teams, the groups I play go with rule of 'fortune the person below you on the team window, bottom fortunes the top". Cuts down on confusion about who fortunes who considerably.
If I see someone fortune someone else, I jump in and fortune them as fast as possible --- the hope is that someone else will do the same to me. In that way, the people who use fortune get fortune...except for the last guy in the line.
But then someone will get him later. -
I'm curious to hear about people's tendencies with regard to fortune use.
The first big question is
"Is fortune always welcome?"
Are there some people who think the possible drawbacks of fortune (for example, I know fool can often lead to END problems on lower level characters) make it a risk they'd rather not take? Is it alright to use it in combat, or does the act of clicking on that button really piss someone off.
2nd Question
How should Fortune be given out?
Do you just always fortune someone if they fortune you? Or, since it offers a good chance of a damage boost (even if minor), does that mean you hit your damage dealers with it first? Or perhaps you just fortune anyone who's costume you like?
In a large group, do you always target whoever is first in the team menu?
Or do you use it on tanks or key team players?
Or is it just random?
I'd love to hear people's rationale, if they've thought about it, and have a perspective.
Would rather not hear from people who don't care. -
I think my problem with this is that I used the search window to find a team, rather than to build a team. I really enjoy duo-ing -- for example my Kinetic likes to search for melee toons who are solo in mission, offering my assistance -- but I have no way of distinguishing people who are in mission by themselves, as opposed to those already on a team, or worse on a TF.

My level 35 Mace brute was hoping to get access to the Carnie Sledgehammer, which requires defeating the Illusionists, Dark Servants, and Phantasms summoned by a Master Illusionist. Problem is that I can't seem to find them anywhere in the Rogue isles.
I scoured the Fairgrounds in northern St. Martial, but that area seems to populate non-illusionist variations of Carnies only (plenty of dark mistresses there though).
Any suggestions? -
I've been enjoying the Loyalist story arcs in Praetoria with my new Mastermind, and recently completed the Chance McKnight led destruction of the Syndicate, but now I'm at a loss. All of my contacts are spent, and no one seems willing to introduce me to someone new.
Suggestions? -
Is it just me, or are the colors in the team search window broken?
Can we get distinct colors for people who are on Task Forces and people who are running solo? Yellow is a kinda catch-all color, making it totally useless. -
I'm just wondering, is there a concise rationale from any one of the Devs for why Stamina should be Inherent? What are they hoping to achieve by the change?
-
On top of it all, they're just not that useful.
I tend play a lot of support characters, and my preference is roll as a duo with someone who's already in a mission, but not on a team. I send a message, offering my services for a few missions, and hopefully join them in their mission already in progress. In this way, I know that they're already capable of running missions by themselves, and I'll be able to use my skills to assist them.
My all accounts, the people I should be looking for are Yellow. Grey people are on teams already, and blue people aren't already in a mission. Yellow people can't be invited to a team, but they can invite others to a team.
Problem is, yellow is ALSO the color of people on a Task Force --- shouldn't that be a whole other color? -
A drop down legend would be fine, but why oh why didn't they just give us a filter for these color based catagorization. I mean, I'd love to be able to remove from my filter all the people whom I don't even need to consider for invites.

This is a regular question for me and my friend --- we do a lot of duos.
We had a similar idea, with a KM/Willpower Brute.
My problem in these decisions is always Controller vs Defender. While a controller offers more damage mitigation, the fact that a defender gets access to its defensive power set early makes a huge difference.
The problem, of course, is to do with Kinetic Melee's somewhat low damage output and Fury's recent reworking. Having a kinetic on board makes everything much easiler --- it'll mean that it'll be that much easier for your brute to maintain high levels of Fury, and his AoE attacks will be up more regularly.
Personally, I think that Kinetic Defense is a better bet, because Speed Boost will assist you in those crucial pre-stamina levels. Dark is a strong secondary, since it's got a great AoE immoblize early, and some additional damage mitigation (in the form of -acc debuffs).
I think that Sonic Defense is another fantastic pairing for your brute. High resistance pairs well with Willpower's natural Healing and Disruption field also provides a nice damage boost for your Brute ally. A sonic blast secondary will also assist in their damage output.
Personally, I could see a Fire/Sonic Controller as being a solid pairing -- though a little END heavy.
The other route is to Roll a Mind controller. Kinetic/Willpower offers little in the way of AoE damage, and a crafty mind controller could have a ball with Sleeps and Terrify. -
I'm strongly in favor of animations based on the 5 Origins for each of the power pool choices.
I'd also REALLY like to see Origin based animations for Traps, since they're really limited to Tech right now. -
Am I the only one who finds Growl buggy? No matter what type of leg cover I get, my left knee clearly dips below the floor's level. When using monstrous legs, my left foot is actually airborne during "Growl", and my left knee buckled over to the point of the thigh and the foreleg becoming one. It also includes that awful ineffectual swipe. Can we have a swipeless growl?
-
So, I rolled my first Illusion Controller, and I'm struggling with the character's blah look under superior invisibility. I know that Auras can offer some more visible distinctions post 30, but I'm looking for something to make my character's look pop a little more.
Any suggestions? Costume pieces? Colors? -
This is really annoying for me.
Is there any way to disable it if you use the existing Chat tabs?
When I first make a character, I create a couple of chat tabs. One for private messages in the top right of my screen, and another for local, team, and emotes in the bottom right. I also have a tab for broadcast and rewards which I add to the top left box.
Then I shrink the standard chat window down --- it just displays too much stuff I don't need to see.
Unfortunately, CoH doesn't seem to recognize that my private chat window is always visible, it's just not selected, so the error bounce "Chat Hidden" message occurs whenever someone chats me.
Any plausible work-arounds? -
I was considering strong candidates to team with the new influx of Demon Summoners, and something occurred to me.
Does Phalanx Fighting grant bonuses for pets within the Area of Effect? If so, what is the upper limit for the number of allies which grant a bonus?
I presume that Grant Cover would also boost those Mastermind pets' defense as well. -
Quote:Ah, yeah that would explain it. I frequently talk while looking at the Team Member search window. I select names, and then requests to team....and since team window is open, it assumes i'm AFK?That message comes up if there is any other window in focus. Whether it's WW/BM, Icons, Base editor...It seems to be automatically generated when you have something else above the chat window in focus.
Personally, it needs to go. It's obnoxious.
