Looking for Duo Team Suggestions

I'm back with a friend to try out the game again with the GR expac. We would like to duo (PvE only) up to cap and run the story arcs and new content as much as possible.

My friend has a KM / Willpower Brute. I am wondering what to make to go along with him.

Initially I put together a DP / Dark Corr but I am open to suggestions. While I would like to try out some of the new power sets if possible, it's not a requirement. Neither of us have a ton of inf to buy expensive IOs so we will have to make do without min/max builds using Mids code that require fancy sets and procs from sets.

One thing I want to avoid is playing something I've already done
close to or all the way to cap.

Ill / Rad Troller
Fire / Kin Troller
Fire / Storm Troller
Kin / Rad Fender

Finally, with his Brute, will he need to slot some of his Willpower powers with taunt to be able to hold aggro? I know on my Will tanker I do if I want strong AoE threat gen. I ask because I don't want this team dining on concrete to 50.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Get something with cold domination. Preferably a defender, but a controller or corruptor will also work. The +def and +hp from cold dom will increase his survivability a ton. Then make sure your other set has some high damage, preferably fire/ controller, fire/ corruptor, or anything you fancy on a defender really. ST attacks will make agro managing easier for him, and will be safer for you, but AoE will make massive body piles.

If you want to try a new set, an elec/cold controller would be fun. With heat loss and the electric set going, you could be a mini sapper later on. Slightly less effective IMO for a new set would be a dp/cold corruptor or a cold/DP defender. If you go that route, I highly suggest the defender version.

This is a regular question for me and my friend --- we do a lot of duos.
We had a similar idea, with a KM/Willpower Brute.

My problem in these decisions is always Controller vs Defender. While a controller offers more damage mitigation, the fact that a defender gets access to its defensive power set early makes a huge difference.

The problem, of course, is to do with Kinetic Melee's somewhat low damage output and Fury's recent reworking. Having a kinetic on board makes everything much easiler --- it'll mean that it'll be that much easier for your brute to maintain high levels of Fury, and his AoE attacks will be up more regularly.
Personally, I think that Kinetic Defense is a better bet, because Speed Boost will assist you in those crucial pre-stamina levels. Dark is a strong secondary, since it's got a great AoE immoblize early, and some additional damage mitigation (in the form of -acc debuffs).

I think that Sonic Defense is another fantastic pairing for your brute. High resistance pairs well with Willpower's natural Healing and Disruption field also provides a nice damage boost for your Brute ally. A sonic blast secondary will also assist in their damage output.

Personally, I could see a Fire/Sonic Controller as being a solid pairing -- though a little END heavy.

The other route is to Roll a Mind controller. Kinetic/Willpower offers little in the way of AoE damage, and a crafty mind controller could have a ball with Sleeps and Terrify.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I guess he decided to go SS instead of KM. I'm assuming the comments above still apply. I'm also assuming SS can put out better damage than KM.

I still think the support role is the way to go but I'm unsure about controlling the mobs or de-buffing the mobs. Do the Villian AT's work as well as a pure Troller or Fender from the Hero side?

As for the Kin suggestion, while I do enjoy the Kinetic set. I've got one Kin/Rad Fender and one Fire/Kin Troller. I'll probably steer clear of Kin only because I've done it before. I'm intrigued about the Sonic sets. I've never played them before.

The sonic sets are also very good. I only say cold over sonic because the defense will be insanely helpful once he gets heightened senses. You can cap his exotic damage defense at a relatively low level (in terms of achieving capped def) and you can buff his hp very early on.

Since +hp buffs help the wp regen, I thought the double whammy of def+hp would benefit more than just resistance.

Since they are looking for cheap builds, capping defense on IOs is out of the question on a wp brute, and the defense from cold will add more than resistance from sonic. Though I admit the -resistance is still VERY helpful in dealing more damage. Maybe a cold/sonic defender.
