Quote:That would be an interesting concept. The risk I see is that you end up with the same Reputation Grind problem that WoW has where you end up need to grind out reputation for multiple factions in order to get access to required gear. What if the reward for fighting crime in Kings Row was earning reputation as a crime-fighter in Kings Row? In a sense, Kings Row would be a meta-contact, and fighting crime in KR would increase your reputation with Kings Row itself. You'd get missions and other benefits other players didn't, for being a well-known KR crime fighter.
I'm not really sure how to avoid that. You want characters to get something concrete for having a high rep but if you start tying tangible benefits to it (like costume parts or badges) then you create a situation where people feel compelled to grind the rep even if it doesn't make sense for their character.
I think that the best option would be a setup where any heroic acts (missions or street sweeping) gets you three reputations: one for the zone you're in, one for the enemy faction you're fighting and one that represents your overall city-wide rep. However the total reputation you gain in each category is inversely weighted by your reputation in the other two categories. So for example as my reputation for fighting the Council grows I get less Zone and City rep when I fight Council but more Council rep (obviously there's need to be some caps on it to prevent someone getting locked out of a rep type).
Next make it so that any rewards (ESPECIALLY badges/costume parts) are granted simply for having a high reputation in one category rather than specific categories. Content can be gated behind specific reputations but any exclusive benefits it awards (such as badges) should be limited and should be available to people without the reputation simply by having a team leader with it run the content. For example maybe you need high City rep to start the STF or high Council rep to start the Hess TF but you can still get the badges by running the content with someone who does have that rep even if you don't.
I guess the general point is to make it so that Heroes can have a specific goal of fighting an enemy group or defending a specific neighborhood but at the same time avoid a situation where players feel forced to grind out multiple reputations or develop a specific reputation that is "required" for their character. Additionally the goal is to try and make it organic. Someone who spends their time fighting lots of enemy types in different zones becomes well known over the entire city and will get lots of varied missions requests but isn't going to be the go-to guy for very specific problems. Conversely someone who has a rep for fighting a specific enemy faction will get called on to help deal with them causing problems but won't be called upon for other factions as much.
Now over time a character who gets played a lot will start maxing out multiple reputation types but doing so isn't essential. -
Well I know that one of the devs for City of Steam does post over on Unleashed and Steampunkette is there as well so the simplest option would be to go and ask .
I've been meaning to take a look at it but haven't gotten around to it. TBH the fact that it's browser based has been putting me off, I've had bad experiences with browser based games in the past. -
There were four things CoH had that I've never really seen duplicated in any MMO I've played (or rather I've never seen all four at once, some MMOs have one or two):
1. The Powerset system meaning that each class has 70+ "specs" each of which will play at least somewhat differently. Contrast with other MMOs where most classes have fewer than 10 viable specs.
2. The really fast travel time making it simple to just jump in and go.
3. The easy PvE and lack of team building requirements allowing a team to be composed of whomever wants to come instead of needing a specific combination of roles.
4. Content being almost entirely instanced which combined with the difficulty settings allowed for easy ability to play how you wanted to without impacting others. -

The game: Magical Girls Online
- The concept: Players play as Magical Girls charged with defending Earth from various threats.
- What we keep: Multiple costumes for each character, ludicrously overpowered attacks, Giant Monsters
- What we lose: The ability to play as male characters, the ability to wear trousers.
- What we add: A robust ally system where you can have one or more helper NPCs chosen from either a selection of cute animal characters or a down-powered version of an AV that you've defeated before.
- Why it would be like City of Heroes: The hugely overpowered attacks and girls in short skirts should make CoH players feel right at home.
- The Downside: Changing costumes requires a two-minute unskippable cut-scene.
- Why I would play this: I'm not sure I would. It sounded like a good idea when I thought of it but now I'm scared.

My view was always the opposite. Eliminating farms would be impossible without a complete restructuring of the AE rewards (i.e. making them give significantly less than regular missions). Adding limited support for farms wouldn't be done to aid farmers, it would be done to aid everyone else. As various people noted above it's always been pretty easy to find farms in AE so adding a farm category allows for non-farmers to more easily filter the farms out.

A few reasons:
1. We don't know how long the forums will be here. This goes double for the devs who are (for the most part) no longer employed by NCSoft and as such could lose access to their redname accounts at any time (plus due to legal things they will probably be unable to post it after they get a new job).
2. We don't know how long the game will be here. While people have said Nov 31st there's absolutely no guarantee that it will continue even that long. For all we know NCSoft could turn off the servers tomorrow.
3. People are starting to move on. Yes there is an effort to save the game and yes some people are determined to eke out every minute of play that they can but for a lot of other people the desire to play is gone. Losing the game is sad and keeping playing it stretches out the grief. It's better to make a clean break, I know I'm not playing anymore, I just hang out on the forums from habit. -
Oh yeah another one. Back before the Defender Vigilance buff I recall I suggested a change very similar to the one that was implemented (although I think I did 28% decreasing by 4% for every teammate). That being said I don't think I was the only one to suggest that and it was a pretty obvious idea.

I remember at one of the events (I forget which) I was talking to Black Scorpion and Arbiter Hawk about devices and complaining about the cast time for Gun Drone. Black Scorpion said he'd take a look and sure enough the cast time did get reduced in the next issue. Now obviously I have no clue if that was me or if it just happened to be on their list anyway but I like to think it was.

Arcanaville mentioned something like this in another thread. Personally I'm unlikely to reuse my specific characters (reuse the names but not the characters) but I still kind of like the idea.
Several of my characters have backgrounds involving Portal Corp and/or dimensional exploration so I can definitely see them organizing a mass extra-dimensional evacuation complete with a group of heroes holding the portal until the very end. Or maybe Lord Harrandeous finally got his ship fixed and they all all piled onto that to explore the probability currents of inter-dimensional space. -
Well it depends a bit on what "save the studio" means. Assuming you mean a team that it composed of Paragon Studio veterans then I would say it's a no brainer. Much as I love CoH it is getting long in the tooth and most of the dev team has enough credibility that I would definitely give any game they released a go almost no matter what (with some exceptions, for example if they decide they want to make an anime dating sim then I would probably give it a pass).
On the other hand saving Paragon Studios itself doesn't mean much if all of the senior devs are gone. For example which is closer to the real Black Isle Studios? The new Black Isle Studios at Interplay or Obsidian Entertainment? -
Quote:Who knows, it probably depends on what exactly they are "selling" you with the box. The software itself still technically works it's just the servers it connects to that are down.Is it legal to sell software (at retail) that is essentially nonfunctional and lacking support (after Nov 30)?
Quote:Once they stop publishing and providing support for a piece of software, doesn't it become abandonware? -

I'm Adeon Hawkwood most places that I turn up on this big ol' web and while I won't claim to be the only person out there with it it's not exactly common. In particular at the moment I'm using it actively on Steam and Guild Wars 2 (yes, yes, NCSoft is teh ebil, I still like GW2).
I do use variants in a few places due to length and/or naming rules so sometimes the space is gone or replaced with an underscore or I shorten it to Adeon Hawk.
I do hang out at Unleashed from time to time (and will probably do so more when these forums close) but, yeah that's about it. -

100% Regen IIRC. Making it superior makes both effects 50% stronger.

Well we just need [Temporary Power: Holy Hand Grenade].

When people say Fantasy Football my first thought is always BloodBowl. There's nothing quite like the sight of your Mummies flattening an opponent's scrimmage line while your Wights and Ghouls run the ball in for a touchdown.

I've repeatedly considered rolling up either an Empath/AR Defender or an AR/Pain Corruptor as a Space Marine Apothecary. Needless to say he'd refuse to team with any Magic Origin, Mutant Origin or non-human heroes (or at least he would if I role-played him realistically).
