Michelle,
I wish I had just 1% of your talent to capture the game.
I started crying again just reading these posts and remembering watching this video last night..... -
Bringing Maurya (energy/electric) blaster to finish up TFC for her. Definitely, good Lord willin' an' the creek don't rise....
-
Quote:So is there a Con in any of the places you mentioned? Other than the Detroit venue being very close to Windsor? They come to Canada and they pick Halifax of all places. Not a border city like Niagara falls or Windsor or a big city like Toronto or Montreal or Ottawa but bummfuckhalifax
We can't organize a whole new convention to go to to publicize our cause ourselves - we are limited to those already being held.
No need for hysterics about it. -
Sorry I missed this - I like the Katie TF. But I was driving through southwestern Virginia at the time.
-
I will try to be there, either with Beata, my Fortunata, or AdAstra, dark/ice blaster. I'm probably traveling, but I can probably sign on.
-
Jamie,
Head over to the Titan Network - look for threads started by Victoria Victrix. In non-digital life, she is Mercedes Lackey, a well-known sciencefiction/fantasy author, who is a very involved player of the game. She has collected a lot of the stories of what the game means to people and is a very good spokesperson for those of us trying to save it.
And I second/third/fourth (whatever) the suggestion that you talk to TonyV.
We do have some former developers active here from time to time, who aren't in on the sunset from that side of things, but may or may not be able to talk to you, depending on the terms of the NDA they must have had to sign.

This is a network of fan-created support (wiki, forums, various performance tools) all created by fans. -
Just to confirm my earlier thought - I will be bringing Maurya (energy/electric blaster) to Synapse. She's missing this one & Citadel (the really "fun" ones, or course) for TFC, which wanted to get for my first character before sunset.
-
Somebody.
Most likely Maurya because I think she is missing this one and I would like to get TFC for her before sunset. -
Thanks for writing this Doc/Sonia.
We are already FB friended, and I am glad we can at least stay in touch that way (even if I was left out of your long list)
TFs with you have always been fun - who else could we blame if we didn't have you? -
Quote:Fansy - Mercedes Lackey (Victoria Victrix on the CoHTitan forums) has collected a bunch of testimonials over there - are those what you are looking for. Heart-wrenching stories about people with depressions and crippling agoraphobia and autistic children helped by the game and its community.Hail!
Yes, you there! That's right, I've got something amazing to share with you, and hopefully this will lift your spirits a little higher, sit back for this one cause it's one major step for Good and a ginormous leap for Good kind!
Game Informer Editors (who would like to remain anonymous until the publishing) are looking for personal stories, and experiences from the players. I even have a nifty e-mail to send your special stories to: webmaster@gameinformer.com, use the header: Save CoH Effort - Article for Magazine (Oct Issue)
It will get to where it's got to go! Remember to kill them with kindness and express your heroic selves and duty. I suppose if you evils and newts HAVE to join in then the Good Guys can look away for a few seconds while you press send.
Good luck everyone, I'll be cheering you on!
I can try to pm her over on those forums, if you haven't signed up for them.
Also - most of our efforts at coordination do not happen in this forum, so I am concerned that your posts aren't being seen by enough people. S&I kinda died once it became pointless to suggest new things for the game (at least for the foreseeable future). Can you go to City Life to repeat this? I'm not sure whether we can get someone to just move this thread over there. -
Only 33 times? Slacker!
But seriously, we have finished Posi I in 44 minutes, IIRC, a couple of times.
I have to bow to your vastly greater experience on original Posi. I only ran it twice, both times with padders to allow my sister & I to run it without recruiting a team. -
First and foremost, are you still playing City of Heroes?
How often?
Yes. Part of a regular Tuesday evening TF team, sometimes part of IB's Saturday afternoon TF team (when my other main hobby of SCA desn't take me elsewhere), other times an hour or two at a time.
What do you do when you're online?
Besides the two TF groups, mainly taking pictures of alts against various backdrops & of my bases (I have 5), but I do have two alts that I will get to 50 before the end (it won't be difficult, they are both above 40 ATM). If I have time, playing my NA & WB alts to at least middling levels.
Will you be here on Nov. 30th?
Absolutely! But not saying I will be coherent 'cause it's so damn hard to see through the tears.
Do you have plans to play any other MMOs?
Which ones?
Did you have an account in that game prior to CoH's demise?
I have had a WoW account for about a year now, with a Shaman in the low 30s (see how much I play it?). My husband, who abandoned Cith for WoW when it came out expects me to play there, so I probably will. I can see some similarities between m Shaman and some of my CoH characters, powers-wise.
My husband had a trial account on Secret World, but didn't really like it. I was intrigued about what I read about it way back when it was frst being discussed, I might take a look.
I also might peek at CO, but I don't really expect I will stay.
Do you have Steam?
Do you want to share your Steam ID?
What do you generally play through Steam?
Nope
What about consoles?
PS3?
360?
What is your PSN ID and/or 360 Gamer Tag (again, if you'd like to share)?
What do you play/plan on playing?
Just a Wii - but we don't have any games for it, we use the exercise programs on it accasionally. -
Just a guess, but speaking as someone who has been laid off - the devs really can't wait around. Many of them have already moved on as best they could.
Would they come back if someone finally raised enough money to set up a new indie studio? Maybe, especially those who have a nice nest egg saved up and don't have other people to support financially and don't mind living on ramen noodles. The others, with responsibilities to more than themselves or no desire to live that frugally - not so much.
Out of curiosity, have you ever worked in a U.S. corporation at any level of management for any length of time? Your observations about how easy it would be to assemble a group of players to pitch in enough money (any ideas about how much that might take, BTW?) and then set up a structure to keep the business side of things running while the creative types (the devs) continue to make this fantastic new game you want to see - they all seem to be observations of someone who hasn't had to deal with any of those situations before personally. The observations lack the ring of RL experiences sometimes seen in the newly graduated from school, or one still in school. -

"You don't have to be an avid member of a community to have the bare decency to not want to see it go away."
-Ok this one may not be so bad. But what is so indecent about wanting ot not caring about if the game lives on or not? Maybe they didnt have the same cheery good feeling experience in the game as others and rightfully so, just as much so as people with good feelings from good experiences have, to feel a bit jaded about it. That's like telling a **** victim to stop belly aching because it's their fault they got *****.
You actually went there. I had a long post responding to each of these quotes individually, right up until I got to this one.
Comparing this one response to telling a (guessing you were referring to a victim of a sexual assault) that it was their fault they were assaulted.
Obviously, you are willing to take anything TonyV says and twist it to see it as something negative and disrespectful. Have fun with that.
Basically all of the responses you quoted are to someone stating that they did not see the point in any of the efforts to save the game. Responses made by someone who wants to save the game. Whatever floats your boat.
I guess TonyV really must have pissed in your Cheerios at some point for you to try so hard. -
Quote:^^^^My estimate is no.
But I need to state the difference between EXPECTATION and HOPE. I don't EXPECT the game to be saved. I think the odds of it being saved are less than 50%. HOWEVER, I also think the odds are way better than zero. So I continue to have HOPE that the game will be saved and continue to participate in efforts to save it.
I will also continue to tell off the internet loudmouths who state authoritatively that there is no chance of the game being saved. When they say things like that, they don't give us any information about the future of the game. The only information they give us is that they are fools.
This.
And I think that there's a lot more of us out there.... -
Quote:Have I missed something? I'm not sure that I have read any threads that sound like what you are describing, other than a few that started out with an OP that wanted to flamebomb Amazon reviews for GW2 or something of that nature. To be blunt I expect you to respect those people who dont feel the same with you just as much as you ask them to respect the people that are trying to keep the hope alive instead of jumping on them when they even remotely say, they mayor may not care about the game. ANd if someone decides to go at it alone, just like you dont want people putting down your efforts or saying negative things about it, dont put their efforts down by saying things like "ok, but it's ineffective." Just as you told the people that follow you to keep doing what they doing, I hope the people may have stuck out on their own do the same and dont let you put them down. In a nutshell, the point is, if you expect people to respect your work and efforts and the others on Titan, try to respect others. If you want people to understand and feel what you all are trying to achieve as you stated, then respect them for what they are trying to achieve, even if it's just sitting there and letting the game go and then moving on. That is all.
And a few of those, I was one of the first to say what a *bad* idea I thought that would be - counterproductive at best, and possibly destructive because most people don't respond well to what seems to be crazy behavior - in fact, often, such behavior gives them a "reason" to ignore the position you are trying to promote, which you agree, is trying to prevent the game from being shut down permanently.
My position agrees with TonyV's. Because my experience has been - based on more than 30 years in the working world and dealing with negotiating and politics (yes, this situation involves politics as does any interaction among more than a couple of people) - stating a position calmly and consistently is a better method than taking extreme positions or trying to retaliate.
Evil_Legacy, you clearly have passion. I'm sorry that you feel that trying to persuade with the methods that Titan Network is asking others to use rubs you the wrong way. Generally, we have let TonyV take the point on this - someone has to, after all. But I honestly don't recall seeing him disrespecting anyone.
One thing I have seen, which seems to be one of your triggers - is ask why someone who "may or may not care" or is fine with "sitting there and letting the game go and then move on" cares if others want to take efforts to try for a different outcome because we definitely DO care.
You seem to want to champion their right to state they don't care, which I acknowledge they have, but in response, since this is a public forum, some folks will try to persuade them that it's not absolutely the end yet, we are still trying stuff to get a different outcome. -
Generally, we can run the two in about 2 hours total, sometimes a bit under that. So the time commitment would be about the same as Numina was last Tuesday.
Torn between creating a new character or re-running this with one of the two I want to get to 50 ASAP..... -
I really can't find $1000 to pay on a game. $500 might be possible, if it happened to fall during the times twice a year that I would likely have a bonus from work as extra cash to blow on something.
Thos of us here in middle America, with middle class jobs (NOT the middle class that makes $250K or more per year) would have a hard time coming up with funds in those amounts without seriously hurting our household cash flow, as Uber said above.
Increased sub - sure, no prob.
Kickstarter contribution - pretty likely, even a sizeable one, but that's because I generally support the kickstarter concept as a business model, not just for PS.
Lifetime sub of $500 - $1000 - not very likely at all. Smaller amounts or payable in installments, more likely.
I think you may have priced the lifetime sub too high to get good results for this survey. -
Hmm, Villain SFs?
Well, actually I had transferred a corruptor to Infinity just for the purpose of doing a few red-side TFs and then never got around to running of them. I would be up for those, although they aren't my first choice.
Anyways, I'll have someone there for the last run of TFC TFs next week. -
Quote:True, but now I'm trying to focus it on puppy & kitteh pictures. Derailing trolls can be fun!Quoting part of the original post because it's what set this thread off. This is just a typical "this game sucks" post. Posting that a game sucks on that game's forums is usually not going to be met with applause. The "noobs" and "snobs" dig is just the mark of someone looking for a fight.

My condolences Bill, I also lost a pet to stupid pancreatic cancer, my big loving and lovable orange marmalade tomcat Calvin.
The mental picture I had when you posted about spending time with Bella stuck with me. -
Quote:I only approached the funeral metaphor because of all the discussion about how some of the posters here wanted folks "to be honest" at their own funerals, the good and the bad, but mostly the bad (by inference).
I also see it as a deathwatch. Someone here on the forums (I can't recall who ATM) when asked why they continue to play, even though the game is shutting down, compared it to watching a beloved pet dying - he wouldn't igmore the pet just because it's dying, he would spend as much time as he could with the pet for as long as he could. -
In WoW, my shaman is sort of a buffer/debuffer - some of my totems work that way.
But I find myself very frustrated that they aren't anywhere near as powerful as a good defender or corruptor in this game.
