    Wait....I agree with Golden Girl?!

  3. Hmm, if Year 7 is meant to be celebrating people coming together and stuff....maybe a focus on the various enemy groups that have got a thorough dugging up over the years by teams of Heroes and then Villains?

    So, you could have;

    Saving the Streets - Hero Section
    Hellions
    Skulls
    Trolls
    Outcasts
    Vahzilok

    Making a Mark - Villain segment
    Snakes
    Lowbie Longbow
    Infected
    Mooks

    And then have sections for mid and end game, along with Praetoria maybe? And combined threas like the IDF and Rikti.
    *shrug* You'll do something win, either way. Don't compare the short they had of the VG pack to your stuff, because your stuff is better by a mile, Michelle
  4. Hmn, another chunk of my ignorance jsut got cured.

    You do realise I will now be bugging you for background knowledge on stuff like this if I ever get a character concept that falls into this sort of realm?

    Hmm..would people say that actual born Vampires and Werewolves are impossible, in this case? Because I seem to be the only one mentioning them...

    Also, I wouldn't say that Zombies are always evil OR created by evil. Thats very much a cultural perception. While I can't think of a media comparison, the concept of 'Eternal Guardians' springs to mind, spirits and forms that carry on beyond mortal life for a purpose or goal, or something that the person feels compelled by themselves to do/carry out. Traditionally vengeance, but it need not always be so...hmn, whats the word...questionably moral? I dunno, brain fail there.
  6. No probs. Ok, point by point;

    Vampires: Entirely as maleable as humans. Potentially more likely to become evil, due to possessing more power, but the same could be said for meta-humans. Powers over darkness do not immediately equate to being evil. No link with 'god' required, not everything is always tied to religion.
    Leon, as my personal example, has a code that he sticks to. While he is very easily considered 'Bad' (i.e. doesnt obey the law, disregard for authority) he's not evil. For instance, he would never harm a child (within reason, freaky cyber-christ children that tried to kill him would get dealt with) and he only steals very important things (he has a well stocked Swiss Bank Account for everything else)

    Zombies; Magical zombies, while frequently the shambling dead. Technically just the animated dead, may or may not have their/a mind attached. If so, then they are the same as any human or sentient being.

    Werewolves. Not always cursed, can be born as well. Not always evil, either. Same arguement for vampires, power corrupts etc. Not always. Fully down to interpretation.

    Demon/Daemon. Again, different definitions exist. Demons are another stereotype that gets done to death. Demons and spirits in other mythos' other than Greco/Roman and Christian ones were equally portrayed as good and evil, as far as I know. Again, common perception and over-use effects portrayal.

    Mobster: Uhm...usually, yes. Not always 'evil' though. Greedy likely, doesn't necessarily mean evil.

    Merc: Again, would heavily contest that. Just being a merc does not instantly forbid people from having a moral code. While rare, again with the whole power thing, moral mercs are still both potential and real. It all comes down to the people.

    Peacebringer: Unclearly defined, yes. Amoral? Uhm, not really. Both Sunstorm and Shadowstar, while pretty focussed on what is best for their kind, wouldn't be Heroeside if they were amoral. They'd do things that jeopardised human lives, to the point of their race being lumped in with the Rikti as 'Potentiall dangerous aliens'. So, amoral gets a no from me.
    Nictus, now, I'd say are amoral or just plain evil.

    ok yes this is IMHO but to me these are defining traits, which takes me back to my earlier point ..people play Vampires not characters, and IMHO if you play a vamp or any of the others listed you have to take the ((ho ho )) good with the bad, there are degrees and levels in all characters but the foundations your stuck with. As Birdie pointed out the Vampire is a creature from a time when evil and good where taken as absolutes, none of this modern greys. IMHO, just to make that clear .
    Well, we're going to have to agree to disagree, then. Because I don't agree with any of the above.

    Modern vampires may be something other than evil because that's the way modern people like to write them.

    Classically, vampires (and for that matter werewolves and zombies) are evil because they were conceived as being evil creatures in a time when evil was an absolute concept.

    Personally, I take characters as they come and a well played vampire character is a well played character. I don't happen to agree with FFM, but equally, I do find that vampire characters tend to be more likely to be stereotyped evil or terrible Emo Anne Rice tragic figures. However, there's always room for some originality, even in a very tired genre.
    Agreed, really. I've (hopefully) done Leon better justice than falling into either stereotype. He's going to end a Rogue simply because he doesn't suit any of the other 3 Allignments very well. He's not particularly Heroic, because he does some fairly selfish things. He's not a vigilante, because he doesn't particularly respect the law. But he's not a Villain, because he doesn't just kill people 'because he can' or anything like that. He'd find it demeaning, really.
    He does look after himself, his two offspring and people he takes a liking too, and he doesn't like to leave things he considers wrong (i.e. killing children, the defenceless, blatant corruption and abuse of power) un-punished.

    Heck, he has a Handbook page. I'll just end up rambling and sounding daft or, at worse, preachy if I go on here
  9. Very, very good post Lyc. Excellent points.

    Except that's pretty much hogwash. I've seen zombie heroes, undead heroes, werewolf heroes, all accepted by players and (mostly) by characters. Why does 'Vampire' instantly mean evil?

    Admittedly, a lot get played as being stereotypically evil (borderline crap evil in a few cases), but they are NOT, by definition, ALWAYS evil. Thats just type-casting. And makes as much sense to me as Floaty's 'All vampire characters suck and I'm going to ignore them'. Thats the exact same viewpoint that 'All catgirls suck', a point that many characters have proven otherwise at GG and other RP locales.

    Thing is, though, if you go with ALL the traditional Vampire weaknesses, you'd never actually appear except at night, have to flee during in-game daylight and, generally, not actually have much fun with them at all. And theres zero point playing a characte that isn't fun, right?

    I do agree with the above, though, in that people play vampires not characters, which is why I made damn sure Leon had a full blooded (yes, I know, kill me) backstory before I took him in-game. While he does indeed not suffer from a lot of the traditional weaknesses, that's because over time he 1) focussed on negating them as anyone wanting to not lose their unlife likely would, and 2) he traded in a boatload of his other powers to enable him to do so.
    So, while his attitude may be partially based on a traditional vampire, he is more of a modern vampire. Because anyone trying to live like they did centuries ago is going to find the mob is armed with shotguns, flamethrowers and enscorcled strong-box coffins these days, leading to a very short un-life

    Aha. So Warwitch's ghost is the one posting in the 'For Fun' section and David 'Noble Savage' is just a figment of our imagination, right.

    Sorry Bill, but more and more that arguement is being proven untrue these days.

    I will be shocked and frankly offended if David and Jay were to sully their increasingly awesome reputation by giving us that lice and fail infested piece of artistic bollocks as a costume piece.
    ALL the in-game wolf heads as of now are freaking ugly. The 'Monstrous' heads are just that, something terrible out of a bad B movie. The Warwolf heads look NOTHING like wolves!

    Warwolf failed freak thing;

    Actual scary werewolf thing;

    T'be honest, I'd be a tad annoyed if we got a 'monster' wolf face as well, but at least it'd be better than the fail that we currently have.
    I'd much rather have a neutral face like the Cheetah and Eagle we've seen so far, one that can at least pass as a Heroic character, not some slavering freak-thing.

    Vanguard Shield
    Yes, the Vanguard Shield is included with the Vanguard Pack.

    Vanguard Chest Emblem
    This is not included, as it's already a part of the 30 Month Veteran Reward.

    Where do the Vanguard costume pieces show up?
    At the tailor/character creator screen.

    MVAS
    It's very, very cute. The art team did a great job in setting up the summoning animation for it. I'll see about getting y'all a picture.

    Define Active/Uninterrupted
    Let's say your subscription gets renewed on 3/1. This is fine. As long as your account is active each day from 2/1 to 4/18, you're eligible. You'd be ineligible if say, you cancelled your account on 2/28, then waited until 3/1 to turn it back on.

    Define Account-Wide
    All existing characters, all new characters. Even if you've already unlocked some of these features already. So your L50 Ill/Rad controller that's run 30 mothership raids this month will obviously have the Vanguard hat, but so will your L1 SS/Fire brute you're going to create on June 1st.

    What is Account-Wide?
    • All Vanguard costume pieces that can be purchased via Vanguard Merits in-game today.
    • The Vanguard Costume Change Emote.
    • All Vanguard weapons customization options that can be purchased via Vanguard Merits in-game today.
    • The MVAS non-combat pet.
    • The Loyalty emote (and to clarify, technically there are actually 4 of them, one for each alignment. I'm confident the Paragon Wiki folks will figure out their actual names.).
    • The "Constant" badge.
    • The "Seven Stars" chest emblem.
    Everything else not explicitly listed above, is still on a per-character basis, and still requires Vanguard Merits. (e.g., additional inventory space, curse-breaker, HVAS, Gr'ai Matter).

    What that means is, even if you've managed to unlock every single Vanguard item, the one unique reward you'll get is the Vanguard MVAS. And that's just from the Vanguard Pack.

    The badge, chest emblem, emotes, are 100% unique for all players.

    More answers forthcoming.
    Hmm

    And now, in happier news;
  22. No, because I was using one of my other Char-pic as a template to crop the screenshot off, and thus expected it to be the same size. Beforehand, 2KB didnt matter much or, at the worst, it at least came up with a pop-up saying 'This file is too big'.
    Now it just fails to load as if it was something up with my net, computer or the 'Upload' button itself.

    Having something explaining 'This wasnt uploaded because its too big' would have saved a lot of confusion and annoyance, is what I'm saying. 'cos I bet this won't be the last time it'll happen to anyone.

    The EATs are, yes. This is why I can and will laugh at anyone saying 'but it wouldnt work, it wouldnt be balanced, tankmage waaah!'

    I'd also point out that people would like Assault/Armour that isnt concept locked. Because until they let VEATs have some other damn weapons or let Khelds recoloure their blasts, they are incredibly concept locked. Even with more choice, they won't be able to be, for my most wanted example, Dual Pistols/Super Reflexes, etc.
