I'm lvl 30 now. should i respec it to get hoarfrost or is that cool to just get later on.
Wow. How have you been surviving without Hoarfrost up until now? I usually suggest taking that at level 2.

Ice/Ice Tanks can be plenty survivable. They definitely were pre-IOs, and can be made even better with them. Will it take some money or time? Yes, but it shouldn't be too bad.

The main things you'll want to do is try to get to the Defense soft-cap either before accounting for Energy Absorption, or with only one enemy in range of EA. To do this, you'll need your base armors, weave, combat jumping or something like it, and a few set bonuses.

Ice Armor's basic armors give you 17% Def to S/L/E/NE, which are the ones that you want anyways. With Weave's 5% on top of that, you're at 22%, and slotting for the ED cap will give you about 34.32% Defense with just those three powers running. Add on Combat Jumping's 2.5% Defense, and you're less than 10% away from the soft cap against those damage types. That should be easy to pick up with some set bonuses. And if you've got the cash, buying a Steadfast Protection +3% Def IO will put you at 39.82% Defense with minimal IO slotting.

Since you're got Weave in this build, you'll also have Tough, which will give you about 23.4% Resistance to S/L which isn't great, but can definitely help. Combined with all of your other survival tools, it's just another layer of protection.

You combine all of this with Hoarfrost, Chilling Embrace, and if you really need it, Hibernate, and you'll be a very survivable Tanker with great aggro control. Like you said, you won't have great damage, but you'll do fine. Ice Melee's greatest strengths are control and the fact that cold damage isn't resisted by many enemies.

Why can't we ask for both?

High-sugar diets are one of the leading causes of obesity in our country. Yes, people are responsible for what they eat, but there's been a large marketing push from the corn and other sugar industries to try to make themselves seem like the healthier alternative for a long time now. If people are told over and over again that sugar is healthier than red meat, they're going to believe it eventually, even if it's not true. Yes, it is a tangent, but this is the problem with marketing trying to show us all of the good with none of the bad, and never being called on it - people begin to believe the marketing.
  5. Marketing departments are what brought us the "sugar is sugar" commercials paid for by the Corn industry. Yes, it is, but sugar is also what is making this nation incredibly fat, and that includes your high fructose corn syrup. I am actually happy that the marketing team here finally learned that people want to make informed decisions when it comes to their money. I wish more companies would actually admit the truth of their product, and let customers make informed decisions.

I've often had the same thought, and the only argument that I've come up with as to why have the limits is that it forces you to choose sometimes between sets with good bonuses, and sets with good enhancements. While this isn't always true, let's take a look at PBAoE sets. Many of them have good bonuses at the 5 or 6-slot level, but most offer horrible endurance reduction. So you have to choose between good EndRed and those set bonuses.

Now, if you added 4 inventions to each set, those PBAoE sets would likely get more endurance reduction, making them the best sets hands down for those powers, instead of it being better to frankenslot them if you're having endurance problems.

HOWEVER, I still would like to see this, especially in certain areas. I think that for a lot of people, some sets just aren't as good because the effects aren't great for the powers they have. For instance, an Electric Blaster. They likely slot damage sets in all of their powers, with maybe an enhancement here or there from the EndMod sets. But what if you added some damage to the EndMod sets? Well now a Blaster could slot those sets, and get some EndMod slotting while still getting some good damage and acc out of them, giving them more options.

Same for DefDebuff sets, Buff sets, and Status effect sets. Right now, if I'm a damage character, there's little reason to slot for secondary effects. Add some damage enhancements to those sets though, and now I've got a few more options.

I wonder if this ties into something else I've been thinking about while reading through the book. We know that the Seven replaced the older gods in Westeros. And so far, the Seven really haven't done much at all. Meanwhile, we get glimpses of some of the other gods actually doing stuff (R'hllor or however you spell it) and Death being the most active with granting their followers power. We also know that there is the god of the Others (the god of ice and death, according to the wiki, but this seems like a different god than those worshiped by the Faceless men). However, we haven't seen the Drowned God doing much for his followers. I'm wondering if maybe that vision was the return of the Drowned God to give his followers power again?

Or it could just be talking about the Greyjoys.
  8. The two Reed kids are probably some of my favorite side characters in the books, and I'm sad to hear that they might not be in the show as much, but I'll have to see. Just finished book 5 last night, and finally was able to look at this thread. I'm been amused by some of the theories being presented here, and have one question based on them.

Isn't the prophecy about Azor Ahai that Melissandre made that he would be born of fire and salt? And that's where she got the idea of Stannis being possibly the reincarnation, and where Daenerys could also possibly be him as well. But how would Jon fit into that prophecy? What about his history would fit the salt? I get that if he was indeed Rhaegar's son, that would be the fire part, but if his mother is Lyanna, that would be snow, not salt.

Also, does anyone else think that Bran is going to be the one to find the Horn of Joramun? After all, wasn't he named after Bran the Builder, who built the wall? Wouldn't it be sort of poetic if he is the one to bring down the wall? I don't know if it would stop the Others, or allow them into the realms of men, but I can see him doing that.

If Marvel won, then DC would have been fine. If Marvel had lost, then the courts basically would have been ruling that NCSoft wasn't at fault for what their users did, even if it meant making copyrighted characters. If they settled, there would likely be some sort of agreement that protected copyright holders (which is exactly what happened).

Basically, either Marvel or DC had to sue, but both of them didn't. Marvel just got their first. DC would have been stupid to sue until the outcome of that trial/settlement had been known, because otherwise they'd just be wasting money. If the lawsuit had continued, and Marvel lost, DC would have likely sued anyways, even knowing they would have also likely lost, because they would have had to have been appearing to defend their copyrights.

....without outside buffs and only with their primary and secondary powers on SOs only....(since this is how sets are likely balanced to avoid any power pools or IOs becoming "required" for normal play)
Again, this is going to vary based on powersets and enemy types. A /Fire Tanker will have a faster rate than an /Ice Tanker, but the /Ice Tanker should be safer. So if you base this minimum off of the /Ice Tanker, the /Fire Tanker will appear to be well ahead of the curve. And that's still not getting into the whole AoE vs. ST aspect again.

How quickly will a Fire Blaster take down a whole heap of minions? A few seconds? Now how about a Psychic Blaster? Same speed? Much reduced? Which of those do you want the minimum value for? Are we sure those minimum values are considered balanced now?

I think I get where you're going, but at this point, you're never going to get the value you're looking for from the players, and probably not even the Devs. So I would just make your suggestion with some arbitrary numbers, admit that they're arbitrary for now, and go from there.
  11. There's still too large a range. Are we talking Lethal damage sets against Robots, or Carnies? Because the same set would kill a minion of each group at a much different speed. And are we talking about AoE-heavy sets, or single-target specialists? Because the AoE-heavy toon might take out a lot of minions quickly, but the ST-specialist will take down the boss faster.

The Devs usually use reward-over-time to determine if sets need a boost (among other metrics, I would imagine). As such, it's not kill speed against certain targets that matter, but kill speed over time against a wide variety of enemies.
  12. You're going from Kinetic Melee to Energy Melee, because of animation times? Isn't Energy Melee even worse than KM in this regard?
  13. I want a Fire/Pain Controller, so would love to see this happen.
  14. Elec/Dark Controller is indeed a lot of fun and great support. Nothing attacks back, and if they do, it's usually at their own guys.
  15. If the Hulk was flailing his arms around every time he jumped, it would look pretty dumb.

As an alternate animation? Sure, I guess. As the new norm? No thanks.

I have to ask, though - no love for AR/Dev/Mun and Dark/Dark/Soul?

I'll admit my forays into /Devices haven't been all that thrilling; I blame Time Bomb. (Is Auto Turret good now? It's been a long time since I Deviced, and I think it's changed since then.)
Both Assault Rifle and Devices need some Dev love. Devices especially is fairly antiquated and not as useful as it could be. Small changes to both sets would make them a lot more popular, I think.

Dark/ is great. /Dark is pretty good. But they don't seem to mesh well. Dark/ has a lot of cones and ranged attacks. /Dark focuses a LOT on melee-range stuff. So it's a decent pairing, but you spend a lot of time running into and out of melee range to make the most use of everything in your arsenal.

Posting an idea is fine. Having a debate is fine. Saying that your idea is "easy" just because, even though the Devs have said otherwise, is going to get you the SCR stuff. The Devs are looking into this kind of thing, but apparently it's not as easy as you think, or we'd have it already.
