First off u can not get EA unless your talking bout the tanks secondary, Ice is more def then res, Fire is more res then def, stone u can get both on def and res but slow recharge and movement. Now to all of these it is easy to get around the problems with each if u build it right, and can use IOs. As for damage u can get good damage but nothing like some other archetypes out there since tanks are ment to take damage and keep aggro then they r to deal it.

ok i see where i went wrong,to corret myself i was asking about ice/ea,fire/ice,fie or stone/ea.and i was jus looking at it a lil more and was thinking what about nrgy/ea,id never take stone as armor dont want movement penilty even though it is pretty good.i know they dont hit like brutes or scraps but i have seen some nice ones out there,so now that it is more clear what i meant plz help

There is some confusion going on with the acronym usage here.

For Tanks, the Defense set is primary and comes first. The Attack set is secondary and comes second.

EA = Energy Aura, which as LSK noted, Tanks don't get. Unless you meant Electric Armor, which is usually abbreviated ELA to avoid confusing the two.

To clear up which sets you are asking about, perhaps you could spell it out, instead of using acronyms which don't seem to be coming out well.

The first post looks to be asking about:
Elec.armor/Ice melee
Ice armor/Fire melee
Elec.armor/Fire melee
Elec.armor/Stone melee

Your second post appears to have reversed the proper tank order and put the armor set second.

edit: Wanted to add, Elec/Stone would be very durable when built for S/L defense. The KD from Fault would add a ton of mitigation.

ok u have it right and then i also was curious bout elec armor/nrgy,would that work better then elec armor/stone

ela/nrgy has shown promise anyone with any input on that or any other builds let me know

Electric Armor, built well, can work with any secondary.

Energy melee is currently a very out of favor set. It's single target damage per time is very mediocre. It's AoE damage per time is poor.

Stone melee is going to be better in every respect than Energy melee.

Fire melee would be better damage than Stone, especially in AoE, but would lose the bonus mitigation that Fault offers.

ok i was really liking nrgy due to the fact it got a heal and plus the 1 ela got that would double my healing, but it is lacking in the dam area.i like aoe but i think ima roll with stone and see how it go'z,thnks for the insight

Energy melee doesn't get a heal. Energy Transfer does damage TO you.

True, Energy Melee - Energy Transfer does do damage to you, and most of the time a Tanker won't even notice the damage.

i was thinkng dark/fire aura for heals and end drain moves, and then shield/elec melee for spring atck+shield charge+lightning rod.but am really intrigued by both builds any ideas on how builds would work or comments as far as pros and cons

Okay, so I have read this a couple times and am confused with what you REALLY want help with. First all tank primaries and secondaries can be good.

1. Energy Melee- my first granite was with energy melee and I keep waiting for the developrs to fix it...sigh. I would probably skip EM. YMMV.

2. If you want a good tank to learn on and is fun- I suggest you try Ice Armor b/c the taunt aura is a good way to learn the role of the tank. This might make the job of tanking easier for you and your teammates. I personally like Ice/Fire. If you go this route take tough early, and get aid self to make up for resist. This tank is very- very fun. Also, if you want the ice armor to be nearly inviz then tint it the darkest purple you can find in both primary and secondary color.

3. Another good armor with mix of def/res/regen is WP. However, if you are new to tanking I would make this later b/c it has such a low taunt effect. Just my 2cents.

4. Electric Armor - You asked so... My primary is a Ela/DM which I love. Not good for AOE but beastly tough and my overall favorite tank. Unlessyou want electric for thematic reasons, I would try Ice first. Man I love the Ice taunt...

No idea if I helped you out or not...

@ oracle i am aware that all powers have pros and cons, but out of the sets i mentioned i wanted to know what sets offered the best dam and def.and as far as your input it was a help bcuz you gave your insight on certain builds and powers.and i have been advised by alot of pple in game that the fighting pool is a must for melee guys, but i rolld 2 builds last night and both are fun as far as end game content what build is able to deal with it better elec armor/stone melee or fire aura/dark?

Must...resist urge...to fix...punctuation and grammar issues. Gaaaaahhhh

HISD fail...

Fighting pool is not a must have, but it helps.

What set thematically do you want to play? When you figure out what you want to look like and what powers you want to use, then post that decision.

I dont like my fire armor/ice melee tank for end game content. But, I rarely use any tank for end game content anymore.

Tanks
fire/ice
ice/stone
stone/fire
shield/fire
and invuln/mace (almost there...)

Brutes
Kinetic/energy (most fun, but wish it was a scrapper)
SS/Shield
SS/Willpower

Scrappers
Spines/invuln
Fire/Willpower
Broadsword/Regen

The most fun for me in endgame melee wise is the kinetic melee/energy brute. I do wish it was a scrapper though and I hate Power Siphon.

So, figure out what you want to play.

Tanks are posted armor/melee. Brutes and Scrappers are posted melee/armor. When in doubt, spell out the sets...

YMMV---IMO

@ ice_ember powers are picked based on theme I'm feeling at time,so I'm very open to trying new combos to get best results.I found I like brutes more then tanks, the powers I'm thinking bout are elec melee\fire,stone\elec and dark\fire.the elec\fire and stone\elec are more fun by far but dark\fire is head and shoulders more survivable, with that said out of the 3 what is best at dealing with end game content?and I'm thinking ion or pyronic for incar powers so what do you think

Posted

dark/fire brute is very survivable, but i dont care for fire armor, especially in the end game.

stone melee is great and provides mitigation and damage. Aoe damage is weak, but AoE control is strong with Fault and Tremor. Seismic Smash is awesome, just awesome.

Some people have created great electric armor builds. I am not one of those people. I have deleted every one of my electric armor toons so I cannot offer any advice there.

I am liking my electric melee/energy scrapper. The build would be the same as a brute. electric melee/fire armor would be a strong combination. However, fire armor is still weak to me when compared to the other sets I have. Some people love it and swear by it. I am not one of those people.

Ion and Pyronic are both great. I ahve both on various toons and it is based on concept. I also have Void on some. I will not take the cold or lethal attacks, what ever they are called.

Now that you ahve identified which power sets you are using, now look up builds for them. Or, request that people show builds they use for those power sets. Since you are wanting them as brutes, we will need to go to the brute forum.

I will have to revamp the dark/fire brute build I have. I ahve not looked at it in a while.

ice_ember you have been a huge help thanks, and as far as fire im stuck on it for the heal and aura.def and res arent the best but im thinkin if i hit them harder and faster then i win,i do like nrgy/nrgy thats fun and wp is a god send shield is fun for sc.but they all will be reviewed and visited at some point in the future but again thanks

Elec/Stone would be my pick of the two. Also, you will enjoy energy protection and some psi coverage for endgame content.

Should you decide to go tank route-

I made a quick and dirty build with some creative use of IO boosters and some exp IOs. However, the PVP procs price like a purple these days due to converters so not nearly as bad as in the past.

*cardiac core and reactive are alpha and interface. Ionic with chance to hold is my favorite Judgement. Lore...polar lights. YMMV.

90% to s/l/e resist
45% cap to s/l defense (31.5% so N/E def...about 1 small luck to cap)
65% recharge

I am sure others could min/max this further but may give you some ideas-
