This is as good a place as any to share with you..

WOW - I can only imagine the frantic rush to get screenies of that when you realized what they were doing... I always start freaking out and laughing - sometimes enough to miss my window of opportunity for a good one... -
I admit, when I made Eye-Sore I was *trying* to make the worst possible set. I haven't updated him with new costume equipment yet.... Mmmm, free tailor tokens.

That's because basketball was invented in the New world. The isles bless their ugly hearts, are soooooo old-world.... jk folks, just messin.
It'd be neat to have eventually, kids playing baseball or soccer or basketball in the game, so they could run and scatter... and drop their equipment.
So you could pick it up and slam a ball through some window....
eeeeeeenewemoteidea. -
You're right - there are sooo many basketball courts. I love the idea!
Definitely a vote for BRB!! -
Any chance of a Sniper badge? I hunt those guys as often as I can. I did a search and didn't find any specifics on this type of badge (... in as much as the search feature here works...)
I hate those guys. It gives me GREAT pleasure to hunt them down, especially roof-hopping in Founders Falls and industry-walking in Crey's Folly... Hate em. Have hated em since one of them one-shotted me my first time into Peregrine to have a look-see. B'blam, faceplant, huhwha?!
So yeah. A sniper badge would make me a very happy collector indeed.
I would probably lead hunting parties for them, in fact. -

Uhm... Featured Screenshots

They're talking about the menu side item. The side of screenshots - with ketchup. It did used to be there as a clickable feature like News and even Forums, but now there's only a thread. -
I had one guy in Cap tell me, "two bucks? That's all you got in your wallet is two bucks? Take it back, I don't need it." (or words to that effect)

My favorite so far was walking by a Penumbra Elite Assault talking to his troops said "you guys are 33% less accurate than you were last month, whats up with that?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Statesman fixed them.

I was in Cap the other day and clicked on one, who said, "my friend said he thought Statesman should kick Lord Recluse's butt. ... I haven't seen him around recently."
Of course the other one I pressed first said, "you don't want me. You want that guy over there." -
The folks who got me COH last year play as a couple, love em. When my ex is on, sometimes we find each other (though with him in singapore and me in san diego it's a tad hard to organize lol). I've seen a LOT of couples and I think it's great. It's very heroic, and in character, actually.
-
... wait, YOU forgot to get the.... :O lol!
-
Saving me the trouble. My sg really does need to be reformed, though. Or perhaps, just... more alts. It's good to know that we get the bonus though.

heh! I was actually surprised we got anyone to less than half health, it was pretty gruesome lag and difficult to see YOU of all the heroes, being kinda.... halfway transparent already... -
I think another Judge guideline that might be helpful is to
Limit the Levels you'll be judging.
I really can't stand running past a contest under Atlas and seeing a bunch of low level n00bs, some with great costumes and even some with fun bio's, standing up next to your level 33's and 45's. That's just plain not fair. And what's worse is that I've seen them WIN against these little guys. At those levels, it is very incosiderate to even apply next to a level 7 kid who really will appreciate even a little extra Influence.
I'd also like to see more Bio contests. Generally what I do is run around while someone else is holding an unrelated contest and simply reward the good bios (the ones that exist and have few typos let alone those which have some content) with a wad of influence.
And Bio/Battlecry/relevance to costume contests. -
Congratulations everyone at NC and Cryptic!! Everyone from the programmers, designers, development staff and the admin of this site forum - you all deserve a gigantic chocolate (or, whatever you like) cake!!
I'll certainly be here for year 2 -
I had a similar experience last night defending my friend who's a katana scrapper. She does tremendous damage, critical hits, and all. But even with a bunch of blue conning Vahz all it took was me trying to send her a green - my eyes off the team counter for literally a split second, and both of us go down. There were only 4 guys, all of them hit by us at least once, and I'm exemplared down to 19 from 26. Sometimes it seems like none of my enhancements are working, at all, during exemplaring, is that true too?
My debt is nothing, it's not like the 40k that people talk about here, but that's because I now completely avoid situations which will afford me debt. I'd just like to GET to the next level so I can continue soloing my normal everyday missions-with-four-must-defeat-bosses-conning-orange in them.
Even with me UNexemplared, I was hardly able to keep up with the damage 2 or maybe 3 guys were doing. We did take down Dr Vahz but neither of us got anything from him because I'd sidekicked her just to get the deed done at all.
And what the heck is up with Dr Vahz now? He's a runner? Since when? -
[ QUOTE ]
Part of the problem is that a lot of those "surprise, the person you were sent to rescue is actually one of the enemy!" missions absolutely rely on NOT telling you about the presence of the boss. It would rather ruin the plot twist, what?
My main, a defender, was usually able to soldier/solo on and finish the mission/arc anyway. Because that's what a Hero would do. Now, however? I'm honestly not sure I can. I've been holding off on taking any new arcs while I wait to see which way this whole thing is going to fall.
I still don't see why we needed an increase in boss difficulty in the very same update that a slider was put in so that people could choose a higher difficulty if they wanted. (Unless the devs don't want to leave it up to player choice...)
[/ QUOTE ]
Those are my sentiments exactly. I had taken on the first of the major Freakalympics arcs, a huge outdoor instance, with 4 bosses to locate. Pre-3, I did actually locate one of them. Orange. Orange THEN. I can't expect to solo an orange freakshow boss with his 5 guys scattered around. I have stealth, I know how to use it. But he's the guy I NEED to get for this mission. Period. Four of em. Yes they're in the text. But... emp/dark. yeah. Fun.
I've declined a ton of respec, tf and teaming requests lately, more so than I often would get, people sounding desperate. Can you heal?! We reeeealy need you!
No, what you reaaaaly need is for Statesman to wake up and rollback the darn bosses... -
[ QUOTE ]
And so what about this didn't tell you you should be avoiding bosses?
[/ QUOTE ]
I wont' avoid bosses because I am playing a superhero. If I can, I will take on whatever seems likely. That's WHY I play the game. Not to team. Not to sulk around and not fight. I do it because that's what the game is for.
[ QUOTE ]
Has absolutely nothing to do with powers or slotting or anything else but strategy. Think about it. If you kill more Lt's and minions in the time that you would have been spending trying to kill a boss, you get more experience. And you don't risk debt so much. Get it?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, but apparently you don't understand. If I leave a boss standing by the roadside, and there's an NPC he's been hassling, I also don't get the npc influence bonus or drop they're waiting to give me. So I get to watch someone else take that while they 'help' me finish a boss off? No. Wrong.
[ QUOTE ]
My 'flavor of the week' is a storm/elec defender, as he has been for oh, say about the past 7 months.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh okay - a storm electric defender, which is to say, the "blaster" of defenders? Hrm. Yeah. Has nothing to do with build, and all strategy. Bull.
I have *exceptional* strategy. When I can't use it along with a ton of inspirations to solo something, it's not me or my character's build. It is, as is painfully obvious from every other post here supporting me, the game design.
[ QUOTE ]
Many bosses in missions are not integral to completing them...and if you street sweep, you have the choice anyway. If you think bosses are too tough, then DON'T FIGHT THEM unless absolutely necessary. Otherwise, bite the bullet, walk outside the mission, and ask for somebody to help you kill that last boss.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know that within certain missions (and see above posts regarding the number of mission based bosses that are missed by flavor text) that you "don't have to" get the bosses. When I can avoid them, you bet I do.
"Bite the bullet."
But as another poster put so well, we are heroes - we are playing people to whom fighting this war against crime is their lifeblood. If I leave that villian to do his deeds again, should it be in the plotline of this game, he WILL do other things and heroes pay the price again and again. I'll only come up against a villian boss in another mission. I won't hide all the time.
But nor should I ever for a moment back away and say I better get someone else to do this for me. I should be allowed the option to say "I better get someone to HELP me do this" but your statements have really given me the bad taste in my mouth that says you don't know squat about a *defender* like an emp/dark. I've been playing her for only 3 months, but solid. And as I've said before, I play solo more than 90% of the time.
I know the way to work a mob. I know tactics for my toon. VERY WELL. But I don't like being at the mercy of a team mate who decides to use a power poorly, run away or toward something at the wrong moment, or other such disasters. Read the other threads about why we don't like teaming. THey're quite true and edifying.
I can take out an even con mob of 5 guys, minions or lt's, with absolutely no assistance whatsoever. I can take on lt's and bosses pre-3 with thought and care. LIKE I SHOULD BE ABLE TO.
But not being given that opportunity means I must suffer to take on only lt's, only minions, and never bosses, because I'm almost assured to fail if I try the risky bosses? Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
I don't like playing scrappers. Period. I do not have to play a scrapper. But they're the only ones able to take on bosses now, and even they are having trouble. It's not me, my tactics, my build or my inexcusable desire to solo at fault here. It is, obviously, the difficulty level being too high for bosses that used to be tough. -
[ QUOTE ]
This has probably been said already, but I'm not going to read 15 pages to find out. Bosses have never been as easy as minions, because THEY'RE BOSSES! Nor should they ever be. A same-level boss has always been tougher than a same-level-lieutenant, which has always been tougher than a same-level minion. Bosses are two classes removed from minions.
If you don't like that bosses are tougher, simply avoid them and go find another bossless group of mobs to kill...plain and simple. You might even find the exp faster if you do it right.
[/ QUOTE ]
They were tough enough already after issue 2 came out. I abandoned a number of alts dying too often because of those, and now they're even higher.
"Doing it right" - according to who? You? Do you play my build? Or anyone else's who've posted? Or a flavor of the week build?
I do not want to have to slot everything one way - "the" way - in order to play this game. If I wanted to do that, I'd just buy a first-person-shooter/non-online game like Halo 2, and be done with it. It's pretty. It's fast. It's fun. But it's not what I want to play.
I don't want to have to fight with the GAME to play my TOON. Working around glitches, bad AI and the like has always been in my opinion a failing of every computer game out there. Learning how to beat a villian because it tracks you a certain way, or can't see around simple obstacles, or has some kind of bug in the program, is NOT playing the game right. I've never been a button-masher, and I really don't want to be.
This is my first and currently only MMO, and I'd like it to play approximately the same fun way that it did when I started in July. I came in RIGHT after issue 1, missing the first invasion. I enjoyed playing briefly for issue 2 and then made my current alt who is *capable* of soloing orange bosses, but only barely, and I'm not fond of debt. AT ALL. I pay attention to the content in the game and I love it. But I hate how we're suddenly being told that if you get a mission with any kind of boss in it (any 1/3 of your missions in other words) that you'll have to find a team mate. No. I do not do that. Many people - most, I would hazard, don't.
Perhaps it would not be so bad if the controllers and defenders had their endurance costs lowered, this was brought up in another thread I believe. Since we're responsible for keeping a team alive, our team-based powers and toggles should cost far lower. That would encourage some of us, possibly me, to play with more teams.
But to *require* it, even with the slider for "more" damage? Heck no. Ridiculous. And clearly - Statesman hasn't read a lot of his own mission text. Since this many people can point out this many problems with just that one line - sorry. It's not true that we are warned. We're RARELY warned. And, a lot of folks can't figure out subtle warnings when they are there. They SHOULD be apparent, or just as another poster suggested, available in addition to a soloable mission. -
I'm not looking forward to fighting a batch of any kind of bosses in missions now that the end boss and elites are implimented AS WELL AS the "above 25 content" crap. I did NOT ask for the av's and major bosses to be EVEN FREAKING HARDER. I fight them with great hesitation when I fight them at all. The explanation they give in the updates thing says that it's "because" people wanted more of a challenge?! Hello? The vocal minority say something and it gets done? nooooo! They say that people "avoided" the bosses because they weren't fighting hard enough/giving enough xp?? What? I haven't even bothered to go BACK to one of my older alts stuck on a simple Kings Row mission (bonebreaker) because he was red conning alredy. I now won't stand a chance of leveling her much and having more success, after that mission and this difficulty change.
I play a lot more than you, around 4-6 hours a day (yikes) but I only solo most of the time and my more trusted friends and their alts are much lower than I am so I can't turn to them to help me with something like this. This sucks. -
I wonder if it'd be possible to design, at the same time as your own hero, your nemesis. That'd rock.
I have a batch of them, in fact their background bios reflect the villian in their pasts. I hope someday that I can fight those villians. Yeah. -
No - the name AND the appearance together are what constitutes a true trademark infringement. However, there are complications, because honestly the trademark only actually applies to the EXISTING materials, and Marvel doesn't currently have a video mmo game to compete. Technically speaking they do hold that trademark, but they have never supported it with a product. They have 12 months since the date of incep on the tm for that specific product, so far as I can remember my tm studying (since I'm going to be tming some things myself) and if they don't they have to file an extention. Until then, though, they have to produce something in 12 months or forfeit it.
That is why, in a nutshell, you get Howard the Duck reappearing every 8 years or so. Because that tm only lasts 10 years tops. If they cannot prove that there is tangible profit or product being manufactured to support the trademark, they lose it. Period. There were a couple pieces, Robotech for one, which was originally lost to the american owners, because they did not hold on to it by making anything new in that period.
So essentially to hold on to a specific name tm there must be an accompanying product. In this case, a specific tm in terms of "video multiple player online computer" product. They do not have one.
The names, separately from the look, would be one of those things that a court would have to decide individually. The names from mythology and names which any person could have, "jennifer jones" "bruce banner" I mean, I don't know any myself, but I'm positive that with 6 billion people on the planet SOMEONE has those names... Harder to prove, impossible to keep. Bruce Banner, who changes into the Incredible Hulk (his proper name by the way, like Spider-Man and The Batman originally) on the other hand is a tm'able thing. It's an association to a particular.
Mythology though, I think there should be no restrictions on genericized versions.
Anyone remember who was suing whom over Nazis? Was it a game company vs a comic co or what? I'm such a geek that I know this stuff.... -
I wish I'd thought of that, but I didn't want to look like I was playing EQ or FF11... campin' out....
This was definitely tons of fun.
I wonder if there's going to be a halloween bash of the same kind on the Test Server as well as the live servers??
Ooh - and it'd be kinda cool that if every time it was night (unless it's ALWAYS night during the weekend event) we could go trick or treating! -

If it hadn't been for my wife insisting on the testing shortly after we got together, I very well might not have been here now.
I went the non-surgical route, for now, and have a CPAP machine. Basically, it's a mask that I wear over my nose when I sleep, which slightly raises the air pressure in my airways, holding them open during the night. Yeah, I look a little goofy wearing it, but I sleep well, the irregular heartbeats have stopped, my blood pressure has come down, my energy has gone way up, and lots of other good stuff. Again, I say, if you snore loudly, wake often, are constantly tired during the day, or choke in your sleep, go check it out. Then you can say that City of Heroes saved your life.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm very glad you did listen to your wife!!
My mom has one of those machines and won't use it, or was in a test where she should have, and doesn't. She has apnea but refused to put the thing on, because it's uncomfortable and distracting.... *sigh*. It's not as bad with her, she doesn't snore all the time - especially when she's asleep in front of the tv...
Anyway - we're all so fragile. Getting away from the keyboard and mouse every once in a while is a great idea. I think I wouldn't play nearly as much if I had a job that required more on-computer time. I enjoy typing and writing, coloring on the comp and playing this game so much, if I had to be doing some of that full time, I'd shy away from it.
Of all my friends I am probably (no, check that - in fact) the most reclusive and hidey-hole of us. I *will* go out and do things with my buds, but frankly I've been like this all my life. I'd rather deal with folks online - at my own pace, and with the ability to just shut it off when I feel like it. But to be able to reply after considering and researching is also a huge benefit.
What a world....
