I feel quite free thanks. Much rather have the zones we've got, full of well written, emotive story arcs, than too many empty, pointless zones to count (Crey's Folley, anyone?)

You seem to believe that all 'villain' players are some seprarate sub-genre, to which Heroes cannot be a part of, and that 'Heroes' is some default status, to which Villains is some difficult alien game to get into.

Let me tell you this: You don't need some PvP (lol!) gimmick as you've stated to get people to play villains, you just need some open minded people to pull their socks up and stop complaining about the differences
  2. 1. Mute Sound
    2. Put your MP3 Player on or alt-tab and play something from WMP or iTunes

I say this because, technically, this sounds messy, having to upload and download your own songs and the like. I can't see the appeal of this personally, but if it goes beyond a personal level (ie your own uploads are all you can hear), then 100% /unsignesd, as music is too much of a disagreeable subject

...and we have enough of that with the Dev Made stuff as it is
  3. Congratulations on your prolonged state of consciousness! Enjoy a baked flour based good in a ceremonial ritual to celebrate and pray for further bouts of time similar to this joyous occasion!
  4. I'd like to do the same! Great resource, and great potential for in depth reviews
  5. Greetings Maddicts (Geddit? :P)

I've been having a series of long chats with some ingame friends of mine, whose native language is not English. They are neither French or German. They are members of a long standing group of CoX players whose mother tongue may be Spanish, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, and so on...they don't have a server to call their own

What has occurred to them, is that, regardless of their creativity, their arcs appear to be seriously hampered, due to the 'authenticity' or their English. In addition, they feel they need to publish it in English, for fear of it never being played. This I feel, is a tragic shame.

I offered to proof read a friend's arc, and since, he has been receiving *much* better votes (solid 4s and 5s), without changing any of the content itself.

This has led me to the following:

I would be willing to proof read any arcs sent to me in the following format.

    -A PM on these boards
-A PM on these boards asking for an e-mail to send the file, or a copy paste of the file to
-A Global tell ingame, with the ARC ID (this would, however, be the most tedious and inefficient)

In addition to this, if people so desired, I would also like to offer Solo testing (on my Ice/cold corr), for general feel, story, fun, and most importantly, balance.

If I feel it deserves a 5 or 4 star, I shall rate it so. If I feel it does not, I shall not rate it down, but instead suggest how I feel it could be improved, in a lengthy tell or PM on these boards.

I hope some people in the non-English communities can find some use in this, and I relish the opportunity to help (I have been really having fun playing arcs given to me on the Mission Architect channel).

(NB: I am a 2nd year German Student at University, and this sort of thing is both part of my degree (how the "English' of translation sounds to a certain register), and good practice)

    Regards,
    Xem
  6. Thank you for explaining it far better than I did JD!

Cripes, nobody reads each other's posts anymore, heaven forbid they don't get to tell someone how wrong they are if they did!

    /em frown
  7. I'm talking about that.

Description being the last page of custom critters, any pressing of Enter, or anything HTML-y, brings up that error message.

I'm not talking about mission text, i'm replying to your problem
  8. Xemulas

    MA crashing game

What zone are you making them in? Perhaps you're getting lag in Atlas/RWZ/Cap?

Try an unpopulated AE building, perhaps that might work
  9. any <br> in that?

    That includes pressing enter
  10. We've had this issue, because a team member was still in test mode, and we entered a different arc in MA mode. Massive conflict, hang on loading screen, had to manually shut down the program

    Not fun

I'd also throw in Automatic Villainy , with Tech Naylor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh Absolutely! 5 star and a long gleeful comment to the 'author' of that one :P

It honestly made me doubt the ingame lore. Really does show how a little bit of creativity in the text fields can make "Defeat X" and "collect X" strung together so emotive and memorable!

And Xem mate tweaking things isn't that what test is there for?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I Tweaked a lot in test. however, there are inevitably going to be things that I'm unable to spot that someone else may be more attuned to. 20 votes so far, and the latest 5 have given me some fantastic feedback, and I'm very glad i've been able to touch my arcs and edit them

It just seems to me. like an unhelpful restriction for most, to 'combat' a problem that simply can't be helped
  13. Viridian's arc
    Seer Marino's arc
    Von Grun's arc

The first is a fantastic challenge, with a brilliant final mission
The Latter two are superbly written

Anything pre new-faultline in CoH = 3 stars or less, the above mentioned are 5 stars, imo

I.E once you publish something you can't touch it for 31 days.

    [/ QUOTE ]

31 days unable to tweak things based on suggestions, remove typos, change something that doesn't really work?

I'm not sure Slaz, perhaps you meant, 31 days before you can publish *something else*, ie. from scratch.

There's a lot of arcs, I must admit, but I don't think this is a solution, as I don't really think it is a problem, personally

    Sorry buddy,
    /unsigned
  15. [ QUOTE ]

... and I'm pretty sure I rated Apocalypse Cow when I played it, and not a 1 star rating. Did you unpublish?

    [/ QUOTE ]

He must've done, I played it at about midnight last night and 5 star'd it. You know you can make changes w/o Unpublishing it B-A, right?

    Looking for map

Damz' suggestion is somewhat similar (it's from the RWZ arc, Gaussain's). But i've not found it either...and it's my personal favourite
  17. /signed.

But ofc, omit the rater...keep things anonymous
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I think that because it's what I'd do if I was in their position.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In that case I hope there's a JD Sr(or Jr...depending on which age suffix is the least offensive :P) somewhere, pulling some strings
  19. Enjoy everything RL throws your way Mccoll, all the best
  20. As things stand, I agree with you JD. For depth of response, and possibility of taking on constructive feedback, 3rd party is the way to go.

Problem is, the MA UI is the system most of the playerbase will use, and it's also crippled under the weight of its own search system (how 5 star rated arcs w/1 vote are before 4 star arcs of many many more votes), and how Dev Choice arcs seem to be only 5 stars, meaning badge hunters are pretty hampered at trying for it, not only by their own community, the players, but also the UI itself...
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Yet the complaints system shows that they had a system working that effectively attaches comments to the published arc itself. I'm pretty darn sure that this could have been modified to a general feedback system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aye, having never strayed onto test while this was in Beta, I honestly presumed that something like that would be the eventual outcome. Tells just seems so sloppy to me...
  22. Ah! Congratulations on your continued existence Cynic! Have a complementary sweet heated good or fermented yeast based liquid on me!
  23. [ QUOTE ]

Instead they backslid to using global tells.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did think it was an odd choice. End up being awfully sheepish sending comments, as hearing the 'beep' or a tell sent off, when what you've written is highly critical, could lead to a discussion you don't want to have *right there and then*...

E-mails are a bit more discreet, IMO...
  24. My personal experience, no offline comments, and only comments from people who played it while I happened to be offline.

However, of those that did get through, one of them offered some fantastic constructive criticism (and the odd typo), and it has since undergone a decent amount of change.

I've yet to receive any offline feedback either, though...

I second that, Force Field defenders are few and proud!
