I'm not sure I see the value of trying to figure out why people farm one particular map over another. Why should the devs care? How can they possibly know how much "fun" any farmer is having from map to map, and from farm method to farm method? And why does it matter? They are doing it for whatever reason motivates them, be it fun, greed, or a desire to reach the level cap as fast as possible.

As I've said before, farming for xp is a symptom of a failure on the part of the game to give players a better way to start an alt at level 50 right from the start. Leveling Pacts are (were?) a concession to this issue, but only a half-hearted one at best (and even they are unavailable to new toons right now). Farming for inf or any other sort of drop is really no different than farming for xp in terms of the driving forces behind it. Some people are just really impatient, and many of them would gladly pay real world money to bypass the 1-50 leveling grind and be IO'ed out the wazoo instantly. Sounds like a potential revenue stream that NCSoft is just plain disregarding...

    Ditto!
  3. And what about the lovely new behavior (since the latest patch) in which the feature that leaves the Launcher running in the background after you exit the game, simply causes a freeze the next time you try to start up the game again?

Since I can't usually commit to a 2 hour block, missions teams have less commitment and would thus be more interesting (though I do intend to try a few more TFs)
I know how you feel. I am finding myself entering a phase of my main toon's development in which TFs and Incarnate Trials are about the only content really worth pursuing. However, I don't know the best way to find teams for these.

Back in October, when I was soloing some of the RWZ content, I would see large groups of people gathering (or what I imagined to be gathering) to form leagues for iTrials in the RWZ common area in front of The Lady Grey. What I have discovered, at least on Virtue, is that most folks there are only interested in speed runs. However, I've never done these TFs or Trials before and am a complete newbie. I barely made it through Lambda over the weekend, and the entire time I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. The team leader didn't announce it was a speed run until after we were zoning into it!

I need to find people who want to do TFs (including the old classic TFs so I can get my Task Force Commander accolade), the weekly strike targets, and non-speed/non-Master-of iTrials. But everyone seems to have been doing this Incarnate stuff for so long now, that regular runs are a thing of the past for them. If there is a chat channel (on Virtue) where like-minded players can find each other, I'd love to learn about it!
  5. ...and the fact that the Launcher hangs each time it is run again after quitting to Desktop. I and a friend each have to do the Task Manager kill process tango, and then the Launcher will run. But then once we quit to desktop, the whole cycle repeats. I guess the solution is to never quit the client...ever.

That's not just happening in radio missions. I ran a Carnies hero tips mission last night with a friend and we encountered Vanessa DeVore as an EB twice during the same mission in different sections of the map. The xp was nice, but it sure was a bit eyebrow-raising.
  7. Why do people farm for xp? Or for inf or merits or tickets or any other virtual in-game reward you care to imagine? Because some (many?) players are only interested in the "end game", i.e., content meant for pimped out toons at the level cap. If that's what they want, let 'em have it. The devs could save development time and money by not having to play this dumb cat-and-mouse game, and devote those resources to things that matter (like more 50+ content).

I mean, now that revenue does not necessarily come from players paying a monthly fee, what is the point of preventing players from bypassing all the sub-50 content, say right from the character creator screen? If anything, doing so might actually induce quicker conversions from f2p to subscriber as these insta-50s suddenly realize that they just gotta have the Incarnate content and find they have to pay for it.
  8. However, I have never heard the characters refer to the game itself, or be portrayed as playing it.
  9. But what really killed AE farming? The release of Issue 21 (with all the new content to explore instead of AE farming), MARTy, or the Boss Rez nerf?
  10. I was a bit of a late-comer to the show even though I am its target demographic. I kept disregarding it mostly on the basis of its name. I didn't realize it was a giant love letter to nerd culture. But I have been a fan now for two years, and it is the one and only sitcom I watch. For me, it is the best thing to come along since Friends.

Comic-Con was a blast for BBT fans two years ago. As a surprise, the Barenaked Ladies came out on stage prior to the panel and conducted a massive sing-along with the crowd of the show's theme song. Good times!
  11. Isn't it also true that ToHit mods aren't affected by Accuracy debuffs (like the -Acc from Dark power sets)? So while that Carnie Dark Servant is reducing Accuracy way down, those +ToHit bonuses still apply, right?
  12. I don't see why AE farming needs to be nerfed or otherwise disincentivized. If players are having fun with it, why get in their way? They are paying to have fun with the game, and it's not interfering with anyone else's fun, right? Methinks the devs may have too much ego invested in "their" view of how the game should be played. They aren't the paying customers after all.

And for the record, I have no dog in this particular race. I don't participate in AE farms (not since learning what they are). But I do feel that in the absence of Level Pacts or some other sanctioned way to bypass the level grind for alts, farming mechanisms should be left alone or maybe even boosted rather than nerfed.

    Ah, right!

I'm not up on my Kheldian lore enough to know why there is the distinction.
  14. I always assumed that the VEATs were tagged as Natural merely because the HEATs were Natural and the devs wanted to preserve some sort of symmetry. *shrug*

When you say "global accuracy bonus" from IO sets, do you mean Set Bonuses to Accuracy that "apply to all powers"? Apparently that is deemed different from a "Global bonus", as described on paragonwiki.

    Soon, my brute will have:
    • 68.9% Accuracy on all attacks from fully slotted IO sets
    • 44% Accuracy bonus from Set Bonuses (5x Crushing Impact + Adjusted Targeting)
    • Combat Readiness (whenever it recycles)
    • Kismet +6% ToHit mod
    • Focused Accuracy (will probably be situational due to its steep 0.78/sec End cost)
Those last two are new since reading this thread, and I'm hoping they'll make a noticible difference.

On a related note: which is better to slot into Focused Accuracy's intrinsic enhancement slot: Gaussian Synchronized Fire Control ToHit/End or Gaussian Synchronized Fire Control chance for Build Up?
  16. If one's powers are the result of constructed devices of some kind, it is Technology. If one's powers are the result of a non-magical process, but which don't require any gadgets to work, then it is Science. If you are born with your powers as a natural aspect of your species or you trained to get all your abilities then you are Natural. If your powers were only genetic potential and then some event caused the genetic markers to express themselves at some point, then you are Mutation.

So the question is, where do Think Tank's powers come from? How did he get them? Presumably, having the brain transplanted didn't give him his powers; that is merely a storytelling conceit to explain the costume. So before you can pick an origin, you have to decide where his powers came from or how he got them. Is he casting spells or drawing energy from some magical dimension? Was he born with them and has been using them his whole life to one extent or another? Was he trained by a chi master? Are his powers the result of an Ultraman Serum? Or does his battlesuit contain all the powers and he merely controls the suit?

  18. Hmm. I never really was aware of the difference between Accuracy mods and ToHit mods. I guess I always thought they were essentially the same thing. Apparently they aren't.

So as a Street Justice brute, what are my available sources of +ToHit other than Tactics from the Leadership pool? Or, put another way, what are the favored set IOs to slot on a melee toon that grant +ToHit rather than Accuracy?

    Recipies

Think of a recipe as just another kind of component material that drops less frequently than the others required to craft an IO. If the devs had chosen to call it something other than "recipe", there probably wouldn't be this cognitive dissonence with other MMOs where the same term has very different game system implications. The fact that generic IO recipes can eventually be "memorized" further muddies the conceptual conceit, but it is what it is.

Yeah, those are amazing IOs (not to mention the Regenerative Tissue +Regen proc IO).
