Well admittedly I'm from the UK not Mexico but I'm a US immigrant and I celebrate it. My family does do anything really major to celebrate it (since our extended family are all in the UK and obviously don't care) but we do celebrate it (although we tend not to have turkey since none of us actually like turkey that much).
-
How about a celebration for the 5th of November where you have to stop the Freakshow boss '4Ks' from blowing up City Hall?
-
I think it's the timing more than anything. Other MMOs have more holidays than CoX and I know when I played them the last three months of the year always felt like one constant in game event with Oktoberfest, Day of the Dead, Halloween, Harvest Festival (of which Thanksgiving is just a specific, more heavily celebrated example) and various Winter celebrations.
-
MMO companies generally make it hard to change the names on the account to make it harder for unscrupulous people to sell their accounts. The only thing I can suggest is to ask for your ticket to be escalated to a higher level of customer support and offer to provide proof of the name change. I have no clue if you'll have any luck doing so though.

Quote:I came up with a solution to that that works for me. I have a macro that turns off my ammo toggles when I fire PR and then bound my movement keys to turn on my chosen ammo toggles (with a set of macros to change which ammo toggle they turn on). It's not a perfect solution since you still generally get 1 or 2 attacks with lethal rounds between using PR and re-toggling the ammo but it does reduce the need to manually manage the toggles. The versatility is the weakness of the set as much as a strength. Say you do find an enemy that is weak to one of your attacks. You still need to toggle swap ammo off every time you fire of piercing shot in order to get the res debuff and the same if you are able to stack disorient with another team member instead of hold.

They would have an easier time than a Blaster/Defender/Corruptor but I think it would still be hard. Ignite has a 4ft radius so you've got to get the group of enemies into melee range of each other immobilize them and then use ignite. It's possible but it means the dominator has to spend time herding the enemies before locking them down. At that point I'm inclined to say they deserve the damage.
-
Quote:Actually I suspect the devs would remove that feature if they ported it to Dominators. The reason for the bonus on the Blaster version is that the one specific combination AR/Dev has a weak alpha strike compared to other Blaster due to lacking both Aim and Build Up, the Targeting Drone bonus was added to mitigate that somewhat. Int he case of Dominators the devs increased the base damage on all snipe powers for a similar reason so Snipe Rifle for Doms would have a higher base damage but would probably not get the targeting drone bonus. As for the Targeting Drone, it was mainly for synergy with the assault set, as it improves Sniper Rifle.
Quote:3. Eh. Maybe Auto Turret from the Malta group?
Quote:Your suggestion to remove a Targeted AoE and replace it with a Cone because Assault Sets don't have Targeted AoEs would carry a little more weight if you didn't have it immediately following a suggestion to remove a Cone and replace it with an Targeted AoE.
EDIT: Ah, actually I see Heavy Burst is copied from SoAs, I missed that. functionally Heavy Burst is pretty similar to Buckshot (slightly longer range, slightly better damage, higher recharge and animation time) so in that case my recommendation is actually to replace M30 Grenade with Ignite for the various reasons stated above and optionally replace Heavy Burst with Buckshot. I'd prefer Buckshot for the shorter animation but realistically the powers are similar enough not to make a huge difference.
Quote:As for Full Auto, tone down the strength a little, it'll work fine. -
Rikti plan: simultaneous attacks
Human defenses: spread thin
Rikti assault: overwhelming
Human situation: analogy: piloting a river in a primitive water conveyance lacking propulsion tools -
Quote:Indeed, you do. The moon is a no parking zone, didn't you notice the signs? Move them now or I'll have them all towed. You can park them in Low Earth Orbit but you'll need a permit if you plan to keep them there longer than 30 days.But... but...
But my flagship and whole fleet is there :/ Keep your hands off them. I have one blue planet to conquer. Hopefully my old friend and loyal fleet admiral is sharp enough now and not taking naps on bridge again as usually. If you find any golden spaceships with red symbols of Mars it's mine.
Perhaps I need a new parking zone now. -
Quote:Because it's not a very good power? I mean it's a blaster pet so it's going to be a lot weaker than a controller pet anyway but even amongst blasters it's considered rather "meh".I'm also not sure about Gun Drone as a pet, but I can't really put my finger on why.
More practically if you look at the sets with single pets most of them have several attacks at least some of which have a control or debuff component in them. Gun Drone has a single power which is just damage so realistically it's only slightly stronger than a single Fire Imp.
Personally for a "Gadgets" control set I'd say give it a Robot for the pet, something along the lines of the Battle Drones in Robotics (not a direct copy in terms of powers obviously, but I'd say reuse the model). -
Quote:I suspect no one criticized him for that because no one believed him . Of his claims the only one that sounded even moderately reasonable to me was the WoW one (and the Defender one obviously but that was basically him saying that water is wet).I can't believe nobody was critical of his choice of video games.
I mean if gaining 10 levels makes a character twice as powerful, and a level 32 is owning characters in their 90's then it has to have remarkably poor balance.
It's possible some of the others were partly true but if so I suspect they were a combination of exaggeration and abusing exploits. -
Quote:I don't think there would be any damage to the game economy if the rate were increased. However I suspect the reason the devs have for keeping it low is to encourage SGs to band together to work on earning the prestige they need for their base. Thanks, all, for the suggestions. Actually, when I asked if I was missing something, I was wondering if anyone knew what damage would be done to the game economy if they doubled, or even tripled, the prestige drops.
Also, for the curious I ran the numbers to see how much prestige "costs" you if earned through defeats. I used a level 50 character fighting level 50 Romans.
In SG Mode:
Minion: 2362 Inf, 13 Prestige
LT: 6114 Inf 44 Prestige
Not in SG Mode:
Minion: 4724 Inf
Lt: 12227 Prestige
So if you farm prestige with a level 50 character you are "paying" somewhere between 180 and 185 inf per point of prestige (the variation is due to rounding). I'm to lazy to figure out if the ratio holds true fighting enemies that aren't even-cons. -
That's an interesting take on the idea. There are a few powers I tihnk would be problematic:
Munitions Control:
1. Targeting Drone: A self buff is a bit out of place in a control set. It would probably work but it seems a bit odd.
2. Trip Mine: What ArcticFahx said
3. Gun Drone: Gun Drone is much to weak to make a proper control set pet. I think it would need to be changed so much that ti would really need a new name. Not a huge issue though.
Assault Rifle Assault:
1. Heavy Burst: I'd say put Ignite in instead. AR's stick is that it's single target damage sucks outside of using Ignite and Ignite requires control to use making it a good match
2. M30 Grenade: Assault sets have Cone AoEs and PBAoEs but don't have Targeted AoEs for some reason, so I'd say replace it with Buckshot. It's a similar damage power but a cone instead (and maybe move it up a bit).
3. Full Auto: This is WAY to good for an Assault Set, I suggest replacing it with Flamethrower. This gives the set two cone attacks which fits with the theme of the original AR having strong AoE compared to other blast sets. -
Quote:Single Targets are very different from groups. Taunt powers basically override other forms of aggro (they don't actually override it but it's very hard to pull aggro from someone with taunt using just damage). Against a single target simply spamming taunt is often enough to hold aggro on it's own. The OPs problem is that he can't hold the aggro of an entire group.Thats a little strange, as i can hold aggro on Giant monsters and AVs 100% of the time, and i use basically only provoke, and my traps. Things is, the 'traps' are their own entity, so it doesn't multiply my attacks by any set amount.
I solo the Ghost of Scrapyard daily on liberty, and can hold aggro off not just my pets, by just about any non tanker/brute that joins in. -
Assault Rifle is a thematic fit and Web Grenade makes it easier to use Ignite
Dark Blast's to hit debuffs stack well with Force Field Generator
Dual Pistol also fits well thematically and the FFg will help keep you safe during Hail of Bullets
Sonic Attack is always nice for resistance debuffs
To be honest the only blast set I would say doesn't mesh to well with Traps is Energy Blast. I'm sure it can work but the knockback makes it harder to keep enemies in the area of Caltrops and PGT plus using hover to turn KB into KD makes it ahrder to place traps (since most require you to be landed). -

I think it will affect them (when slotted in electrical attacks it restores endurance to NPCs so it does seem to benefit the target of the power) but slotting it there is pretty pointless. It'll only work once when you first use the power so basically they've got a small chance to recover 10 endurance... right after you send their endurance recovery through the roof and they don't need it.
It's mostly intended to be slotted in powers like Stamina where it gives you a chance of recovering 10 endurance every 10 seconds. -
Quote:It's been a while since I checked but even with a level 50 the inf to prestige rate is poor enough that I'm pretty sure you'll "lose" more inf buying prestige than you would from taking the 50% hit to earnings getting it "naturally".Another option is to turn off prestige, maximizing inf rewards and convert. While the exchange rate is horrible, considering how easy it is to make inf in this game, you can actually get prestige quicker this way.
I'll double check tonight but unless the inf to prestige ratio from drops is worse than 500:1 you're better off running in SG mode and spending the inf you do earn on prestige if you want to maximize total prestige gains through killing stuff. -
Purple Sets have a relatively limited selection of set bonuses. In general when people refer to "purpling" a build the bonus they are going for is the 10% recharge bonus for 5-slotting a set which nine of the ten sets have.
As such the characters that benefit the most from purple sets are those than benefit from high global recharge.
For melee characters the benefit from high recharge can come in one of two ways:
1. It allows you to tighten your attack chain therefore increasing your DPS (possibly including dropping an attack power)
2. It allows you to change slots you were using for recharge into slots that increasing your survivability (for example suppose you had Crushing Impact slotted in two attacks, slotting Hetacomb in one of those attacks would provide the same Recharge bonus as both CI sets allowing you to slot a Mako's Bite set in the other power giving you more damage, HP and ranged defense).
Other character types benefit from high global recharge in that it gives them higher uptime on their most powerful abilities. Some popular examples include:
1. Phantom Army for Illusion Control
2. AM for Radiation Emission
3. Domination for Dominators
4. Pet powers for Crab Spiders
5. Fortitude, adrenalin Boost and the Auras for Empathy
6. Eclipse and Dark Extraction for Warshades
In either case the important thing to realize is that slapping purples into a build willy-nilly isn't always the way to make the best character around. They primarily increase your global recharge but global recharge is not always the thing you primarily need. -
The primary reason for that mission is to allow people who missed the Isolator Badge to get it. The reason it doesn't give XP is that the enemy group (Contaminated) are not actually balanced, they are intended as tutorial enemies and as such their attacks are extremly weak so you're basically at zero risk when fighting them.
The arc as a whole isn't really inteded as something you do on every character. It's there to explain the basics of Ourboros and introduce a bit of the plot for people who care about that, it's not really something you do for the rewards (although it does give 7 merits which isn't bad for the time required). -
To my knowledge the Devs haven't made a statement about it one way or the other. I guess it's possible the devs stated that in the closed beta forums but I'd be kinda surprised if they aren't palnnign to give out freespecs.

Quote:Cool, Virtue is the best sever . If you're interested in teaming I recommend joining the global channels "Virtue LFG Alpha" and "Virtue TFs" both are a good source for teams (the former covers all team types but the latter is mostly for Task Forces).I play on the "virtue" server and my name in game is "Badmethod". Would be nice to join a super group but yet to work out how that works so i will look into it after i have a shower this morning.
Regarding SGs, you can check the Virtue Forums but a lot of the ones recruiting there are RP SGs which may or may not be to your liking.
EDIT: Probably should have mentioned HOW to join global channels. If you click on the word "Tab" at the top of your chat window that has a number of options for joining chat channels (you can either type in the name or search for it if you tend to spell it wrong like I do). Alternatively you can use the command /chan_join <channel name>.
Quote:Thank you so much for the warm welcome too! I really was expecting to be called things like 'nubsauce, noob' casual, scrub' and whatever so this has been a refreshing change indeed. -
Well assuming the files you copied didn't become corrupted somehow it should work since it's basically a modification of the method used to do a quick install of the test server.
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Test_server
A few things I can think to check:
1. Is it actually downloading or is it just verifying? Sometime you have to restart the installer a couple of time to get it to verify instead of download
2. Is it trying to install in the wrong directory? The default directory is C:\Program Files\City of Heroes, if you're trying to install to a different path it might not have set it correctly.
3. Try deleting the ".checksum" files in the root directory (alternatively try deleting everything except for the installer and the /piggs directory, you'll have to download some stuff but the /piggs directory is the large portion of the download) -
Manipulating the price of common/uncommon salvage over a prolonged period of time is extremely difficult and rarely profitable (manipulating it for an hour or so and making a profit is more practical). When the prices of common/uncommon salvage goes up substantially over the norms for more than 24 hours it is almost always caused by a shift in player activities (generally a seasonal event, double XP weekend or a new AE exploit) rather than market manipulation.

I'm still considering it. I don't particularly care for auras and the only cloak that I might use with my current characters is the Impervium Mantle (I'm not sure if I'd prefer it to their current capes or not). It is cool but I'm not sure if it's worth ti to me.
