and I really like the long bridge

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL I turned that bridge into a character on Protector server- Valour Bridge, a pissed off she-bridge tank who wields a giant war hammer. Talk about a way to clean up her deck, walking around whacking Family and Tsoo in the face with a huge hunk of iron!
  2. Since with science booster we have the ability to change body types from one costume slot to another, I would love to see us get some of the NPC body models as options- the warwolf body, with some customizable options and costume parts would rock for all the lycan-types out there.
And the NPC body model that includes the long robe as part of it would be sweet too. It seems to me that the problem in giving long skirts to players lies in trying to put the skirt over the player model's legs- the legs poke through an awful lot. Now, if we could get the model where the long skirt IS the legs, I bet that would solve the problem there.
Of course, feet would be customizable, but the robe would need some different textures and patterns available for variety. Perhaps make the Tsoo skirt and CoT mage robe patterns unlockable for their respective kill badges?
  3. I actually got into this game because a friend let me make a few characters on his account and play with them when I came to his place to visit. He sat right there with me and walked me through the low levels of the game, telling me things that weren't in the tutorial. However, I did not abuse his trust by acting like a donkey's butt in game or otherwise bringing him trouble.

That was about 40 months ago, and I am still here
  4. I rather liked the story myself. I was expecting a Frostfire sort of thing, where the guy decided he liked being a bad guy more than saving people. Or perhaps an Anakin Skywalker sort of deal, where he gets sick of feeling like he's being held back, or sick of following rules and always doing whatever he's told is "the right thing".

I liked his backstory much more, it was much more interesting. I didn't really pick up on the whole "Ironman or Wolverine clone" angle, as I'm not as big a comic fan as some of the others here.

I must say, these two backstories have my interest, and make me eager to see what else is coming for this new expansion. I would love to see more of the Preatorian Earth backstory.
  5. I just bought it, I look forward to playing with it
  6. With all the DC's, mapserver errors and such that I have been seeing lately, I wonder if the server resources need to be increased somewhat.

And I always thought it was wierd that it's okay to have tuxedo tails+wings or cape, but not bolero or trenchcoat and wings or cape. I thought the tuxedo was based on the same principle- that flowy cape tail. Only difference is its size, being shorter.
  7. Although I wonder, with the graphic updates coming, if they won't up the specs a bit, or find some way to allow us to combine those costume pieces again.

People constantly switching costumes like that sounds like a far more serious problem than a handful of folks who bought the booster pack attaching wings to their trenchcoats.
  8. Okay, I tried to test this. Got an error saying no connection to DBserver. Then no connection to mapserver. Then login server down for maintenance.WTF?
  9. I wish they would increase the minimums a bit..I made some cool costumes that way and it sucks that I can't change them now that I want to.
  10. When I hosted my RP- CC, I gave out some honourable mentions too- some people who had nice costumes, but no bios. And before I commenced narrowing down the finalists, I gave consolation prizes to everyone else who had come out, thanking them for coming out to play with us that evening.
  11. The ability to switch body types being added with the science booster makes me wonder if eventually we will get the long-robed character body that NPC's use, where the robe is part of the body, not laid over top of a pair of legs. Currently the reason why we don't have long robes is that there have been difficulties getting the robe to act right when trying to follow the existing legs. Note that robed NPC's don't have that problem.
  12. I actually had a worst costume contest once. I called it the Paragon city "What not to wear" fashion disaster costume contest. The objective was to make a costume which sucked as badly as possible. Who knew that character creator could vomit up such abominations?

It was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.
  13. I've used the self-destruct power as a cool way to end sewer runs, or when I was about to die anyway. So far, I think the funniest use of it was when I had my Brooklyn Bridge toon out. Yes, I made a character based off of the Brooklyn Bridge. One day I popped self-destruct and as the countdown progressed, he screamed "I..am...LEGEND!!" right before he blew his stack.
If anyone's seen that movie, I'm sure they remember what happened to Brooklyn Bridge on-screen.

As for the turban costume part and self-destruct power, I remember a long thread about that right after it came out. Somebody had an idea for a terrorist villain and wanted to know if screaming "Allah Akhbar!" while popping off self destruct was a petitionable offense. Needless to say, the idea did NOT go over well, with many posters saying that they would petition such in a heartbeat.
  14. I've hosted several good CC's. My best one was where I chose the winners based on kicka$$ costume AND bio, then had them answer several questions in character. That one took awhile, but was fun.

I ran one garden variety CC on protector, and one of the losers was incensed that I did not pick him. His costume? A bad green lantern clone.

I've participated in many great CC's and also been in some utter crap-fests. Whether it's great or a crap fest depends on the people hosting the thing.
  15. My friend DJ vinyl used to DJ for W00T, as did Krelo. I miss their shows.
  16. I love the Samurai armour- my characters have found so many ways to mix and match it, it's not even funny.
Trenchcoats too- but these days, they're competing with the valkyrie and magic pack capes and robes.

I also love my two free attacks- nemesis staff or blackwand, and sands of mu or ghost slaying axe.
  17. Holy heck, that lyre bird was unreal. Leave it to me to notice not just the freaky sounds coming out of that thing, but its gorgeous tail, which it was fluffing up all over the place. Lovely bird!
  18. I'm hoping we'll get a textured version of the ulterior skirt- that is, textured to match the ulterior top with bump maps and such, not just the "pattern painted on tights" version.
  19. I'll second buttcapes for everyone..I want!
  20. Count me in as another who would like to be able to add muscle to women. I don't care how, I just want.
  21. I've got some characters on virtue who could use a little level boost..That said, I'm not a newbie

It'd be like having a friend over to watch a movie he's never seen before, then fast-forwarding to the finale and telling him "you're not missing much".

    [/ QUOTE ]

A friend of mine used to do this- we would be watching a movie, and he would fast forward through the scenes where people were talking. When I got mad at him, he was like "I've seen it before!" and I would answer "But I havn't!" What was the point of watching a movie if you never saw anything but the fight scenes and skipped everything else?

I confess- when I was new to this game and got my first character to 14 or so, a friend of mine with a high level character SK'ed me, and I joined him for a few missions on a high level team. That was fun. But it was not farming or outright PL'ing. No bridging or door-sitting involved, just a heckuva lot of butt-kicking.
  23. Here's a question for you all to chew on- should newbies to CoH/CoV ever Powerlevel?

In my opinion, no. Once you've been playing for a while and understand how the game/archetypes/powersets work, then go ahead and PL.

But if you're new, I don't believe you should be PL'ing. You do yourself and your teammates no favours if you've quickly gotten to a high level and still don't know where the auction house is, how to find the train stations, and such, or how your archetype should function.

Instead, if you're new, take your time. Play through the game's content- what's the point if you skip it all just to hit 50?
Learn how the different archetypes function, what their strengths and weaknesses are. Observe the different powersets in action, note their pros and cons. You don't have to be a master number cruncher, but take the time to understand how enhancements work, how to get around, use the markets and NPC stores, and so on.

In short, learn the game before you even think about PL'ing.
You have friends who've been with the game awhile? Either have them make new characters to play with you, or have them SK you and do some of their missions. The beauty of the SK/Exemplar feature is that people of different levels can play together (minus level restricted zones and TFs).

Of course, with any rule there are a couple of exceptions I can think of:

One might be that the newbie has some supportive real-life friends, or a very supportive SG who help them gain levels quickly, but at the same time are also doing a lot of teaching about game mechanics, playstyles, etc. So the newbie does not end up with a high level character they are clueless about using.

Or if newbie needs to level up a character quickly for a specific purpose (they are in a PVP SG, or their SG needs a few more of a specific AT for things they like to do), and helps the newbie roll a character for that specific purpose and level up, again with lots of teaching along the way.

Aside from those sort of scenarios, newbies should not PL, IMHO.
  24. I would kill for a polearm powerset..Imagine how sick a Talsorian Naginata would look? Or a Talsorian Kwan-Dao or Pudao?
  25. Wow, just wow. I read the release and waded through all these pages of posts. This update sounds hella freaking SWEET!

I won't speculate on power customization or anything like that, but side switching alone sounds just too freaking cool. I've got a couple of villains who just might make the switch to hero-side, and a couple of others who are undecided. Not sure if any of my heroes would fall, but this thing sounds awesome. Sign me up, I can't wait.
