We have War Walls, which, even ignoring the implication that Paragon's citizens essentially live like caged animals

[/ QUOTE ] Stop rattling yer bone-box, you clueless sod! You'll have the Lady cast her shadow on you! [/Planescape reference]

Another thing: The NPC's in the streets do say some interesting things. For example the comments about "Not all you capes are bad" or something said to similar effect when rescuing someone, I can't remember the exact words, I'll have a look later. And the Chris Jenkins posters, calling out to people to sue if they get injured while heroes battle. Seems like Paragon's very own Jack Thompson.

Eressos, one thing I just remembered you said in the post you made in Suggestions, that this isn't the Justice League world. I wish it was, truely. DC and Marvel have been around longer, so the way their hero elements work have a lot more substance behind them I guess, than a story brewed as a backdrop for an MMORPG.

One thing I believe will help when it comes, the newspaper missions for heroes. And it makes sense too. I believe it was said somewhere before that villains are pro-active, heroes are reactive. This isn't the case. Hero A reads up about a rare gem going on display in an exhibit. Thinks to himself "Some villain will try and nab that, I'll head over there for when it opens in disguise, ready to catch them if they try it." The hero heads over, sees a villain come to try and steal it, reveals himself and saves the day.

That works much better for some types of characters than going to contacts. Of course, going to contacts will fit some characters more. Having the choice is a good balence. One irk though is if you go IC, you have to avoid certain contacts. Hiring a magic hero to stop a satalite being hacked? Nuh uh.

Hence the world we're playing in isn't really an RP world to start with; add in Zortel's 'Static World' theoreum and it's far more an FPS than an RPG.

Next is the 'Sunnydale' effect, where more Superheroes than could possibly exist gather in one place; so "SUPER-STORIES" become like a dull version of Eastenders.

Finally, I'd hardly say Paragon city was a "police state"; given the attitude towards mutants and metahumans when it comes to a Hero license is the exact same one as "regular" humans, coupled with what NPCs say, it seems as if equality is pretty much accepted within Paragon City.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Billboard: Earth is for Humans, let's keep it that way.
Police Drones: Posted outside trains and major roads to the cities, somehow able to distinguish between friend and foe and teleport someone instantly to jail. How long until they're completed and can roam around, zapping criminals in the street? That's rather police state to me.

RE: Static world. Point, still one that irks me though.

RE: Freedom of depth in MMORPG's: Hopefully the CoH PnP book that's coming out will help clear some of the stuff up until then, but still some glaring details are missing when compared with the otherwise rich gameworld.

    [ QUOTE ]
(People who played "Villain" characters in CoH, for example....gah, I could have throttled them).

[/ QUOTE ] Most of the people I know who've played villain characters in CoH (Me included) did it because we were using them in a player run story arc among a group.
  4. This is breaking off from a post in Suggestions.

What do you think of the world we've been given to RP in? How does it fit in with how you RP, the characters you play. Does it work with you or against you?

My opinion? It seems the Paragon City we're given is a police state, with metahumans being forced into signing up to a hero license in order to fight, giving them no privacy. Their identity and other information is held on file along with their hero names, allowing any Tom, Dick or Harry hacker with bad motives to find out their identity and get to them through their family. We've got nothing to work with about how jobs and the like work. We've got half baked concepts like Icon and the enhancement stores breaching the gap between World and Game Mechanics, which are normally ignored because they just don't work. Zones and villains are missing big chunks of background (When did the Hollowing happen, for example?), a static world where nothing we does change, where you have to either ignore parts completely ("You look tired." "Oh, we beat Dr. Vazhilok today." "Wait... I beat him today as well.") or RP in small focused groups to avoid things like that happening.
  5. Kong Rats are yours for the taking. Just for God's sake don't feed them after 12!

*Nudges RW and points at Eressos' avatar*

As for Villain RP, I haven't even played the game much, I just can't seem to get into it, so RP'ing is a bit of a long shot.
  7. Youngest: Jessica Kade (7 months old, but she's a nanomite-constructed human of a physical age of 21 years old.)

Oldest: Madame Midnight (132 years old, a witch.)

Most of my characters are either teenagers or late twenties-early thirties adults though.

Depends if someone is roleplaying a dick

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well yeah, but there's being that or being a total one. Total ones don't know when to quit, annoy people OOC and hamper enjoyment.
  10. Ditto for when and where. I'm a poor college student with 2 weeks of term time left!
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Roleplaying a Villain gives you no excuse to act like a total dick and compromise another player's enjoyment of the game.

One thing I'll say is that having a single target immob is often really useful, as any web grenade user will tell you

[/ QUOTE ] Indeed, I use the /Elec immobilize on Fusebox in a way that's pretty handy. Fight near a corner, immobilize one, then hide behind the corner to cut down the number of mobs facing you, I imagine you can do the same with the Warshade power too.
  14. Just remembered this hasn't been reposted since the boardwipe!

Thanks go out to Guinivere for this handy little program that can sort through the text files produced by CoH's loggign system and slice through all the excess, leaving what you want.

    Instructions:
Use the Browse button to find the text file you want, select what channels to leave in (Local, Tell, Team, Broadcast, et cetra), messages to filter out (Area Transistions, Enemy Defeated), what time you want to go through and search for keywords to extract lines containing.

The file is then outputted as FilteredLogDate.txt in the folder containing the log, and opened automatically to look at. The file is hosted on my own little area of the internet, but as I said Guinivere did the actuall work. I'm just a distributer!

  15. Glad you enjoyed yourself, and ta!
  16. Congrats, Stasis! Have a non-denominatal celebration cake and moderately priced champange!
  17. Knockdown/back/up is a valuble mehtod of controlling. If you can fit it in or are taking flight as a travel power, Air Superiority is not only a good control tool, but teams up well with Containment to give you a damage boost soloing.
  18. If you saw 5-8 people laughing madly and rambling on about that, it was us.

    Yay, belated Hi back!

And aww, that sucks Gid. Next time you see them, threaten them with the aubergine.
  19. Ireland might be pretty hard for me :< Unless... I win the lottery! *Goes to buy scratchcards/tickets*
  20. Aye, lots of fun. More thorough post later. Checked out a bit earlier at 0930, got back a few minutes ago.

    More thorough post!

I arrived at about half twelve on Saturday, discovered my room wouldn't be ready till 3pm. :< Left bags in car, parents went off to look around and I drifted about the convention hall trying to spot someone. Wandered about the stalls, got handed bits of paper, headed up to the Upstairs PlayNC stand and watched people play. Saw the backs of the heads of Silver Weasle and Stasis, listened in on some conversations (-What- was Bridger apologising about so much for!) then wandered about some more after briefly logging on as Z on one of the PC's and sending a tell to Spearmint. Headed back downstairs and picked up Mutopia X issue 5. Said hello to Bridger but I think he was trying to escape somewhere so no reply. Sat down to read my new comic and then found Ellie and J. Hugs followed, then more wandering about and collecting free bits of paper. Got briefly introduced to FFM after someone noticed the hair and pointed me in his direction (Never again am I using that blue dye, it runs like hell and takes ages to get out.), before going to meet Stef for more huggles. Waited about in the reception of the hotel for Niall to arrive, then they met my parents and chatted for a bit, before we headed off for a slightly late lunch.

Late lunch occured at Moshi Moshi, where Ellen learned to watch others before trying something new. When handed a pod with bean-y things in, I bit into the casing of the pod. Only when I noticed the others -opening- the pod did I find out they were actually quite delicious. Much chatting was done, rice consumed and other things eaten before we headed back so I could get into my room and change/remove coipous amounts of blue dye from my hair. Heading back down, I met up with the others and Max (With Hat!), Jed...name I can't spell/real name I've forgotten (Either Andy or Alex...) and plays Lyn and Cogs, and FFM properly, and saw sketches too! Found out from Stef that Bridger loiters at GG, briefly listened to people chat at him, waited in line for a chance to get a sketch done and then the convention started to close down for the night, and Rockjaw suggested coming back tomorrow(Well, today), but as we had to leave before the con opened... :<

We wandered off to the bar for a bit, where I proceeded to go into panic attack mode. :< Things were looking grim for me going out to dinner with the others, and I planned to head up to my room and have a drink with them later after the meal. Then I realised I'd be a fool to let panic attacks ruin a good evening and forced myself along, getting stolen by Ellie and Stef along the way. J also seems to have Doc's ability to disappear and return later, leading to a Freudian slip on Stef's part when describing it.

The 8 of us arrived at Moshi Moshi, sat down and ordered. Sumo was the bento box appitizer of the day, at a.. 7 to 8 choice, wasn't it? Everyone seemed to pick it for one reason: It had chicken in there, and I think a lot of us bar Ellie/J/Stef/Niall didn't have a clue what the rest were. Incidently, the aubergine that comes with it in one section was realised to be a stolen organ from Dr. Vazhiloks lab, which then proceeded to attack Lyn.

Appitizers were finished, more chatting and laughing happend, and plotting too. Main courses were brought to the table, where more of the above happend (Plus a drumroll for my first try of Tempura!). After finishing, we wandered back to the hotel. 9pm happened at this time, and the idea was thrown into the air to find a statue in Brighton to stand around, but instead snacks were bought and we went back to the hotel bar for a drink.

The hotel bar was packed to hell. :< So we chatted for a bit in main reception, took some photos (Dammit, one of my photos didn't save properly :&lt and then disperesed!

FFM and Lyn learned a valuble lesson: Don't eat the Up-N-Away salad.

It's a shame some of the GG'ers couldn't be with us, and that my bombay potato spirit vessel failed to work to bring your souls to us. :< You were there in spirt though, and we'll capture you all together sooner or later. I think the plan is for a steak resturant next time. Where we have knives and forks, and don't have to watch me blunder with chopsticks. Or splinters from splitting the chopsticks.

Another bad thing was... it was too short for some of us! More time is needed. Though I think between more time and more people, wherever we gathered would be destroyed in fits of laughter.

FFM has a cool phone/PDA/Mission Map device thing, I never did get to see any of yoru sketches Lyn, just the one you got done on the stand, and Max is very tall! And didn't shoot anyone.

Ghost Widow must have been boiling in her costume, Bridger and Rockjaw look... pretty much like I thought they would. I probably should have bought those New X-Men: Acadamy X comics too.

Overall, a great, brillaint, superb, crazy weekend. Thanks to everyone there for one of the best weekends ever, and we need to do it again with more people. Time to start arranging kidnappings.
  21. Most memorable... hmm, there's too many to remember!

I think the dinner scenes are always the most memorable for me. Forget being a hero, risking everything, just a group of good friends enjoying good food in a homely atmosphere. Another would be when Alex Reed's parents came to visit.

Jess... well, Jess is memorable and strange. Every day is an adventure for her, always finding something new to marvel at, things to try and understand, and just the way she lives and acts so happily. She'll speak to nearly anything, and normally has a surprise in her pocket or cookies to hand out.

Another one would be Anna Marsden and Synaesthetix, as well as Hannah and Syn, just the older brother/younger sister-esque chemistry they have going.

The first one that really got me into RP was when a young, blue haired mutant popped up at the statue in March and started to talk to people.
  22. I may or may not eat much, rice probably. If the rest of the stuff doesn't appeal to me, I'll drink and chat and have something back at my hotel room.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
I'll make sure we have Ellen with us with blue hair so we're recognisable.

    [/ QUOTE ]
But... I was going to wash the blue hairdye out before dinner so I could get properly dressed instead of looking like Fuse!
  24. [ QUOTE ]
It seems to me that you lot have issues with PvP if you dont want to be attacked dont go to the PvP zones if your standing around doing nothing your a prime target if you think its ganking then your very much mistaken.

    [/ QUOTE ]
We want to go to PVP zones to interact with villains in a roleplaying fashion without interference from non-roleplayers. Currently, there is no in-game mechanism that allows us to do this. Adding to this, while some players have said that if the area of people roleplaying was announced so they could be aware of it, they'd not interfere, some think this shouldn't be. As you said, roleplayers are a minority, so it's not like vast amounts of roleplayers would be there giving you no targets to attack, right?
