    scrappers.
It's been pointed out before: Team tasks by their very nature takes more effort (to organize etc.) than solo tasks do. So therefore even if people prefer to do teams, if you can do a task just as easily (same rewards) solo they're going to do it solo because the net effect is that it is an easier task.

That's like pulling a Henry Ford and making a line of cars all in black, then saying "We didn't think people would want other colors." (I know that's not why he did it.) And you're arguing that, basically, the design of a car includes the requirement that it's black because all cars so far have been black, since they never considered people wanting something else.

There is nothing in being an incarnate that's inherently tied with teaming. How do I know? I step out and still have my level shift and alpha slot working when I run missions in the RWZ. I still have my Judgement, Lore, Interface and Destiny working. It's designed to be *high end* content (not least because the powers vanish below 45 just due to general design of the game) but it's not inherently "team-only" - other than the utterly *blind* lack of consideration that people would want solo/small team content.

Which, given this game's history, is like opening up a baseball stadium and being amazed people want to see a baseball game there.
That's because incarnate content was imagined as large-scale team based content first. Then the rest came after it.

    Gameplay first, the rest later.

EDIT: And remember, a lot of people did want large-scale team-based content, and has been asking for it for years.
  3. Speaking of which, something I'd love would be the ability to award alignment points based on actions taken in missions. (say, saving your clone and telling it to go free would give you a rogue point)

And defining "realistic" barbarian outfits as "you know, a chainmail bikini like Red Sonja wears" is even funnier.

A "realistic" barbarian outfit, for either gender, would consist of poorly tanned hides and a few scraps of cloth attached with rawhide stitching. And footwear? It would be A) Nothing, B) some really badly chafing sandal-type things, or C) some scraps of cloth tied around your feet (mostly worn in winter time) MAYBE you'd see some fur boots, but they'd look like crap.

The simple fact is: Barbarians were not known for their tailoring skills.

I agree that a fur loincloth should be available for both genders, though.
Actually, most barbarians would have worn cloth. Possibly with fur details. Leather in some cases.

Remember, barbarians invented the pants. (or trousers, if you will)
  5. I think Arachnos at least in part exists for game-mechanical reasons: They're there to explain whythe game isn't more sandboxy. I think they do that well enough, they're a force to be recknoed wtih, capable of crushing any individual villain (through sheer numbers if nothing else) Lord Recluse also has a fairly interesting philosophical view, it's not often you get an anarchist dictator.

The Kheldian specific IO's look totally silly. and mostly useless. A damage boost in Nova won't help Warshades very often, since we spend so much time at our damage cap already. Damage Resistance? Are you kidding me? You just gave us Perma LF and we already have Perma Eclipse. Most of the people who are serious enough about their Kheldians (the kinds of people you should be keeping in mind when tailoring Enhancements to the AT) will have little to no use for extra Resistance. The extra HP in Dwarf sounds nice, granted... But majorly disappointing overall. The highlight of this set is the 8.75% recharge bonus for 5 slots, assuming that the enhancements themselves have good stats.

Also, since PB's and Warshades are not the same AT I am assuming Scrappers, Brutes, and Tanks will all be sharing the same "Attack of the Melee" enhancements, and Defenders, Corruptors and Controllers will be getting "Power of the Support class," right? There's no chance that Kheldians would be shortchanged here. Or is it that everybody knows PB's play just like Warshades.. Just like Scrappers play just like Tanks. :|
Both VEAT's and HEAT's share an IO (Dominion of Arachnos & Kheldian's Grace) the other AT*s don't.
  7. I've been trying to build something similar and can't quite make it.

I'd like to try geting my fire def softcapped, but can't seem to *quite* get there. (too few reistance powers I guess?)

No, they really aren't. Distinctive GFX is A and O. There are some that could be toned down, sure, and the entire power-customization thing (nice as it is for customizability) kind of removes an entire area of distinctiveness, but having clear, distinct power effects is a huge boon.

The possible contradiction with the responsibility arc where you have the option of turning her over to Mother Mayhem is an issue though. Presumably if you went that route she would had to have somehow escaped between then and when the underground trial takes place.
Considering she's also a contact in First Ward, that's a given.

For having a truce it wasn't much of one.
Hamidon dosen't exactly follow the Geneva protocols on diplomatic relations.

Cole is basically: "Please don't kill all humans!"
Hamidon: "Why not? Human suck, they just mess up the place with nukes and ****."
Cole: "Let me show you that we won't mess stuff up!"
Hamidon: "Okay, but don't mess stuff up OK? You do your thing, but if you mess stuff up It's nom-nom time!"
    Cole: "Okay."

    Some time later:
Hamidon: "Coooleee, why are you building stuff in my jungle?"
Cole: "I kinda wanted some place to..."
    Hamidon: "SURPRISE TENTACLE ****!"
Cole: "Okay, okay, I'll stay out of your place. And shoot anyone who gets in there. That's OK?"
Hamidon: "I'm so glad weunderstand each other."

    Even later:
Hamidon: "WHo are all these people crawling acros my planet? Where are they COMING from, and why isn't Cole doing his job?"
Cole: "Uh... I was kind of trying to fix that, they're y'know coming over and..."
    Hamidon: "NO EXCUSES!"
  14. My impression was that the incursions of Primals into Praetoria was *why* Cole invaded. The conditions of his truce was essentially, that he had to keep humanity in line (stop destroying the environment, etc. etc.) with Primals coming over and stirring up trouble he can no longer do that, which means, from Hami's POV, he's no longer living up to his end of the bargain.

So in Cole tries to blitz Primal earth to bring it back under control before hami goes all "Hey... There's a lot more humans around than it used to, and they'r not keeping their feet off the grass and avoiding littering!" but the primal heroes screwed that part up.

Which means Hami is now going to make a snack out of Praetoria.

The thing is, the Rogue isles really aren't any special kind of horrible. It's the living reality for a good chunk of the world's population. As to why people would stay... Well, most of them probably can't just pick up and leave, and those that can afford to leave... Well, they've already rise to the level when things are looking up. There's probably all sorts of businesses who feel the Rogue Isles are a decent base to conduct operations away from prying eyes...

And most of all: There's freedom. On the Rogue Isles it's all up to you. You can do anything, there's no limits to what you can achieve... As long as your strong enough or clever enough to take what you want and keep it, there's no limit to how far you can rise.

It really isn't. Aeon City isn't a slum, neither is Villa Requin or most of Nerva.

The terminology used in scandinavian languages and most translations are more along the lines of "Shield-maidens".

They aren't synonyms. "Valkyrie" means "Chooser of the slain" (where "val" refers to the dead and "kyrja" is a cognate of "choose" going through a couple of mutations)

Battle-Maiden OTOH is of french origin and means well, battle-maiden.

Kirby tech I would guess just really refers to the very distinctive way her drew machinery. It's hard to describe and I'm actually waiting for a league to form and don't want to miss the button. To shorthand it, Kirby's machines were usually big, blocky powerful looking things with very distinctive raised lines and angled patterns and pulsating energy. He really defined the Marvel house style there for awhile in the 60's and 70's and a lot of artists were doing machines the Kirby way there. You can even see some of the artifacts of his influence today. It's kind of cool.
It also tends to be used for describing certain character's with somewhat "techy" looks, the Asgardians of Thor, Galactus, The New Gods etc. all look very distinctively Kirbytech. (and so do characters that have been created to ape the style, like Thanos)

"But she's tech origin so she must look techy"
    No.
So what if she's tech origin? Ghost Widow's magic origin, does she look like a wizard? Of course she doesn't.

Both Valkyrie and Battle Maiden get their powers from their weapons. That is the tech aspect of the characters. They both wear them on their backs. That is all that's needed.

Also while we're on the subject, those weapons come from War/Warrior Earth where a Viking inspired warrior culture is prevalent. To ignore that would be ignore an entire aspect of their characters. The Valkyrie pieces are the perfect representation of that Norse influence. So what if the armour dosen't look techy. It doesn't have to, it's nanite armour, it can look like whatever it wants.

EDIT: Changed Statesman analogy. Incorrect example.
Uh... Actually, the Valkyrie pieces looks nothing whatsoever like norse stuff. Even teched-up norse stuff.

The blends have no scientific proven effect (probably not even mad scientific), but just works in his case. He is a result of experiments by some sort of back alley Dr Mengele.
His fire abilities are because of combustion of injected hydrocarbons.
Still sounds like science, even if low science, to me.

I think it kinda doesen't fit. Scirrocco should look... Good? A bit of a rougeish swashbuckler or romantic-hero gone horribly wrong. Not like someone who's been dead for a week.

  23. Hmmm...

I like Lord Recluse, although his armour could stand to be painted black rather than the grey-ish it is now.

Cole's IJN-officer look works as well.

The Freedom Phalanx generally look pretty bland, and Statesman needs to have his face-plate thingie converted into a proper helmet.

Of the patrons, GW clearly looks the best, but all of them except Scirrocco looks pretty cool. (Scirry looks a bit too much like a walking corpse)

Praetorian Nighstar is cool, Mother Mayhem... Looks kind of ridicilous (HOW DOES SHE EVEN WALK WITH THOSE BOOBS?)

Some characters (Manticore, Swan, Valkyrie in particular) have really bad textures.

i think thats more of an issue with the players not judging when they couldnt progress any further, i wouldnt waste hours attacking something without its hp bar moving
Doesen't matter whose the issue was. Players did that during testing, and then became very, very angry. The solution was to implement a time-limit so people know when they're beaten.
