  1. 96.97 percent, which surprised me because I haven't played much in awhile -- but I read the forums a lot.
  2. My tanker and I both hit 50 in 2005.
  3. Well, good-bye and good luck.

All of the advice here is good, I won't repeat it.

As somebody who was also the first in the family to go on to higher education, I have one more suggestion: Be prepared to try harder than you did to get this far. In families where the parents have been to college, they tend to pass on the study habits early. Mine didn't have that experience, and I got through school with good grades mostly on being smart and showing up. In college, you probably can expect to have to study and work on assignments much more than you did in high school, for the same grades -- especially when you move on to the university.

Community colleges are, in my experience great at actually teaching. Universities, again just in my experience, can be more about figuring out how to teach yourself. Professors sometimes don't even want to deal with undergraduates. You have to know how to study and research. You seem to have a solid language ability, so you should be well capable of this. Just be prepared.

    Hey devs!

D_R, the person who sullied your rep is doubly ignorant. First for using that awful line and second for getting it backward. It's the cow you don't buy if you're getting the milk for free.

    Correct this discrepancy immediately.

    Thank you.
Very reasonable. But as I sometimes try to explain to my fellow copy editors (yes, scary, I know), trying to impose reason on the language will only make you crazy.

Do I hear scoffing? Start thinking about spelling and pronunciation, just the ones you use in your own country (whatever one that is). Try applying reason. I'll wait here with the anti-psychotics.

No, no, no, "math" doesn't take an s.

Oh, and while I'm here: neither does "horsepower".
  7. So in England French-origin words are always pronounced in the French way. Hmm. Yes. I see.

  9. Oh, and some other things we need to get straight:

    - coupe rhymes with soup, not toupe
    - a car with an extra set of seats where the trunk was is a station wagon

Actually, estate car I don't mind, but coo-pay just makes me laugh. Do you really say that in Britain, or is that just one more bit of silliness from the boys on 'Top Gear'?

ME! Who cares very much ... about me.

And a even a little about the community and PK and all the other posters. Without them I'd have no forum to check everyday.

    And now the thread's complete.
  13. I do hope the ability to access the second and third trays through the alt and ctrl keys will remain. I use these quite a bit. I rarely use the mouse to activate powers.
  14. I, too, have seen that Web page line among the options for years and wished something would come of it. I love the idea.

I wonder if there will be visibility setting on the Web site itself, so you could restrict some information that way. That is, you could set your pages, or specific kinds of info on your pages, to be visible to all, visible to registered players or visible to registered players in your SG.

Basically, I think, if you can't hide it in-game, then it should be on by default. And those things, such as character names, character images, powers, levels and badges should go up by default, because as people said, very few people would use it if it weren't that way.

Although I can see the problems with a few items, I really do not understand the massive "privacy" concerns among a few people. As someone else said, I have to wonder what these people are hiding. Clone characters? Obscene bios? Bad grammar? Bad taste? I don't get it. I just don't. I think maybe some people consider themselves w-a-a-a-y more interesting or important than they actually are. Chances are, most of the pages won't get seen by anybody other than the owner. Of course, some people would probably like to be able to sue people for looking at them when passing on the street -- so what are you gonna do?

Anyway, if someone can steal your identity by using the web because they have your global (as someone suggested), then you already have a problem, and it has nothing to do with CoH.

However, global names are one of the few things I think should be off by default. People should have at least a chance at escaping annoyances by switching characters.

Friends lists really shouldn't be up there unless a person wants them there, either. I use mine for people I want to avoid almost more than for people I want to team with again. I'm not popular enough to be worried that people would feel offended by not being on my list, but I can understand wanting to avoid that kind of drama also.

I actually think that posting the names of all characters that have been active within 89 days would not increase anybody's spam, because they'd be using all those thousands of names instead of just the ones they've collected. Of course, I don't get the spam paranoia either -- so you get some tells or e-mails. I've gotten them too, and I don't recall them hurting me in any way. I report them, and that does take a minute, but if I were bothered by using the time, I'd just stop doing it.

Statistical information on 50s or what level people stop playing characters, which someone mentioned, would be great, but I'm not sure they'd want to put that out there. It could be something they consider proprietary, or just something they don't want players throwing around and arguing about when it comes to nerfs and buffs.

When will leadership of the Freedom Phalanx pass from Statesman to Captain British?
    ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, it will pass to somebody, because --

    DUN DUN DUNNN --

Statesman has secretly been working with Lord Recluse all along.

Surely I'm not the only one who never bought that good-guy act? Statesman (the character) was always a jerk.

I don't get the folks who think they're somehow entitled to something special because they bought both CoH and CoV. That's not how the game market works. People who wait get better deals (unless the game disappears). It's always that way. So my reaction is ::shrug:: For the record, I bought CoH three times, CoV three times and GvE four times, with a total of four currently active accounts.

And I still want more slots per server, please. How about a way to (free or cheaply) transfer slots (not just characters) from one server to another? Could you move that to the top of your list once you get settled in your new offices, guy? Thanks.

So it looks like the Lineage games are also fully owned by NCSoft. Is that correct? Anyone have any experience with Lineage/Lineage II? Could we find any insights on what might be in store for CoH there?

The change certainly looks to have the potential for great things. New things and changes always bring disagreement among the players, particularly the forum players. So in a way, it's going to be the same thing no matter what.

::wanders off to look for a NCSoft NorCal wish list thread::
  16. The Flashback system makes me happy. I do hope it'll include the chance to do the zone arcs. Most of those were added after my main was past their level.

Most of the other stuff looks cool. I may not get around to it right away, but it looks like fun.

For some reason (I don't know why) I had to laugh when I saw Taunt IOs were among the new sets, but I'll probably end up with some. I'm guessing eventually (no, not this issue) all powers will have sets available, and that's a good thing.

But I really don't like the addition of very rare recipes. I think the hardest-to-get stuff that's in the game now is enough. Not that there shouldn't be more rare stuff, just that I don't like the idea of even rarer stuff. I just don't like the spirit of it.

As a Prison guard my work schedule is planned a month in advance, and simply cant be changed with such a short notice.

    *sigh*

    [/ QUOTE ]

I sympathize, I really do, but the "real lives and real jobs" remark wasn't called for and you really should know better.

I work in a seven-day-a-week business, I work evenings and for years I worked Thursday through Monday. I know full well how many social and leisure activities are scheduled based on the assumption people are off evenings and weekends. This is no different.

But I do understand how you feel and I sympathize.

We wanted there to be a reason to have Archetypes other than Blasters and Defenders on your team. Controllers will find themselves greatly desired in the final battle if the team wants to have any chance of winning.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't quite see how they can say they learned something and then say this. Having a certain AT be required, which is basically what this says, is no better than having one or more be marginalized.

At best this needs to be clarified.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is not "Basically" what that says. It is a Worst Case Scenario Interpretation of a VERY general statement.

Jeebus people. It's not even on test yet. Could we possibly hold back on the betchin and moanin about how Unfair it is to the CoV people, or why Certain AT's being Absolutely Required is Bad - until we ACTUALLY know if this is the case?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Optimism is nice, but words do have specific meanings. I'm not "betchin and moanin". I'm understanding English.

"... if the team wants to have any chance of winning," is not a general statement. It doesn't mean "if you want it to be easier."

The meaning of what he said is that you won't have a chance if you don't have a controller.

I said it may need to be clarified, because the devs are not always good at saying what they mean. But he doesn't say a controller will be helpful on that page. The statement I quoted means controllers are needed to win. Without them you don't have a chance.

New contacts story arcs for 50s would solve the Pool B problem very nicely, hint, hint.

That would stink for the really loyal customers who bought both CoH, CoV and a hero kit.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That was my reasoning for opening discussion. We know so little about it, it's almost pointless to discuss...but I'm still wigged out over it. If someone just starts playing, they're going to have a three month head-start on me...but only if Veteran's Rewards are based on "billing time."
    D

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I don't think anyone would be three months ahead, since presumably everyone has one month free from buying the game. So to that that partly equalizes things; at most they'd only be two months ahead.

We don't know that that's how things will work here, though, so no point worrying yet (and that's coming from a mother with advanced training in worrying. )
  22. Best of luck to you. And to us. It has to be hard walking that line between removing the truly offensive and allowing people to speak their minds. NCSoft has no obligation to allow anything. I've always respected how much liberty is allowed here and how well the job of rule enforcement was done.

You (with your colleagues) have managed the forum with a wise but firm hand and the community here is undoubtedly stronger and better off for it.
  23. You don't mention how playing in SG mode fits into your plan. Do you keep it on permanantly? Not at all? Turn it on and off.

In the mid- and higher levels, this can really cut down on your inf. Any advice on that, for people who wants to support the SG as much as possible?
  24. It needs to spend time on test to make sure that, oh, they didn't make it a 35 percent debuff. Or a 35 percent buff, for that matter. I mean, they've tested double XP twice now. Any change can go wrong.

Nothing should ever go live without testing, really, you don't want that. At least I sure don't.
