It is a shame that the announcement came when it did, and that NCsoft rolled CoX figures into "others" for their 3rd Quarter report, because it would have been interesting to see.
The devs were slowly learning what worked and what didn't. It's my understanding the biggest profit centers were powersets and super packs. They were cranking like crazy on the power set department and they had a super pack that would have launched about the same time as Bio Armor, I guess. Yes, it would have been interesting to see, but my bet would have been in "even better than 2.4% growth"

But even so, looking at the increase of trade that the introduction of Freedom had, and then the drop off the *following* quarter,
There are MANY reasons why every business does not compare revenue quarter to quarter and instead compare to the same quarter of the previous year. Plenty of seasonal things affect every single business every quarter.

Anyways, the fact that you "called it" actually shows that you didn't actually read the article, nor have you played Guild Wars 2, nor have you read what is actually available on their Store... (here is a hint, you cannot directly buy items for Real World Cash, and what is available for "Gems only" is nothing that has player stats....
As I said when I "called it": give it time. (I actually did not expected anything drastic to show up yet, fact that anything did actually shocked me.)

Just to point out that the Black Lion Chests and the "Halloween" chests (which were just the black lion chests during the christmas period) can be unlocked by keys that drop ingame. Sure they drop like rocking horse poop, but it does happen.

And the *normal* contents of said boxes... nothing really to write home about.

The mini pets are vanity items... non combat (although they can be used in the mystic forge).

*shrugs* To be fair, if you guys are complaining about this stuff, then most of the arguments (with the exception of the Black Lion chests granted) also apply to City of Heroes.

Although in Guild Wars favour.. there were no £17 items to purchase.

The "gamble" boxes and keys to unlock them in STO and CO can also be purchased by converting ingame currency into cash shop credit. That still doesn't stop people in those games from complaining about how unfair it is that they are for sale for real money.

And in SW:TOR the unopened "gamble" boxes, and most of the random items within them once opened, can be traded between players via email or put up for sale on their ingame market and a player doesn't have to spend a dime to get them, but that is conveniently overlooked by the whiners.

Exactly my point.

Yet. Who knows what may be added in the future. If you told the STO players that Cryptic/PWE was going to start selling starships for $50 bucks you'd have been laughed off of their forums. Yet lo and behold they've got three different ones for sale in their cash shop today.

Yes I know STO calls them a three ship pack but in reality it's three copies of the same ship with each carrying different gear that can be stripped off the other two ships and placed on one ship. They even gave the gear the ability to work like our own IO sets so you get better bonuses and abilities if you have them all on one ship.

Booster packs were a bigger con than anything GW2 has on their store and there was never an option to buy them with influence/infamy.

Arenanet is a good enough company that I'm contemplating buying gems with real money just as a thank you to them for making an awesome game(I don't need anything they are selling on the store). The only time I bought paragon points was to try dark control and I immediately regretted it as soon as I got the pet that wouldn't shut its mouth and the several powers which had zero effect in pvp or were brokenly good.

The rabble you might hear from gw2 forumites is that they introduced a new tier of loot and a new dungeon with scaling tiers of difficulty to unlock it(all very fun and non-grindy). The loot is like something between orange and purple in CoH but it has boosts that no other armor has currently(you can add the boosts with upgrade items). I'm a casual+ player so I won't push for anything higher than the exotics(rare/orange tier) I already have. But having something for more hardcore players to reach for keeps the game busy and makes finding teams easy so its a good addition to the game.

Oh, by the way all this was free content that 100% of the playerbase can access without paying a penny. People who "I told you so" without having given the game a try just want validation on their decision, and I'm done trying to convince them.

None of my friends playing GW2 have even mentioned this. Probably a typical forum thing only relevant to weird people. If there's only one lesson to learn from Internet boards, it's that they are never representative of the common folk.

I attribute this to the desire to see GW2 fail simply because it's an NCSoft game and that it was released days before the announcement. It's just wishful schadenfreude.
