Project X, as in X-mas

Just had this idea today on the drive home from work. Call it silly if you wish, but maybe its just one more thing we can all try to do to save our game.

Project X-mas, a Win-Win-Win-Win plan:

The investors of NCsoft should be looking for some postive results as the company moves in to the final quarter of this calendar year. NCsoft is currently sitting on something that as far as anyone can tell they have no interest in every using again, and they have just shoved it into a box in the back of their garage so to speak. This thing does have a value, and possibly a substantial value, to someone if they would consider selling it. If it sold, this could only have a positive effect on NCsoft's financial reports. The shareholders win.

NCsoft is facing a firestorm of bad publicity from several fronts, which is only likely to intensify once December comes along. Social media is ablaze, and e-media everywhere is following and reporting on current events. So, if NCsoft were to release/sell the IP of City of Heroes Freedom as a "Christmas Gift to all those players who have lovingly and loyally followed CoH", it would allow them to both save face by being seen as generous and abate the influx of bad press. NCsoft wins.

City of Heroes was making money. Perhaps not a lot of money, but it was earning more than it was costing. In this economy, making some money sure beats making no money! So anyone that could gain the IP to City of Heroes would be in line for a positive return on their investment, so long as the rights were priced to market value. Additionally, whomever gets the IP would INSTANTLY get a large customer base of PROVEN devoted fans that I am sure would be queueing up at the press conference, waiting to hand anyone their monthly subscription fee! They would gain the adoration and support of a large client base. The new buyer wins.

And finally, if the player base can get to continue playing City of Heroes the day after November 30th, we win!!

So, why don't we send NCsoft Christmas Cards, like a letter to Santa, saying all we want for Christmas is the opportunity to continue to play the game we have come to love so dearly. Or post letters to the facebook page. Or something like that.

If anyone thinks this is another thing we could try, I defer to anyone with more/better organizational skills. Tony-V . . . where are you?? /em binoculars

NCSoft has stated it is not selling CoH. The chances of them changing their mind are about the same as me winning the lottery...and I don't buy lottery tickets.

Yeah, and their corporation mission statement, from their web site is:
To make people in this world happier.
The ultimate mission of NCSoft is to make each and every one on Earth happier. That is, to make people's lives more enjoyable.

So... I really don't put a lot of weight in their words.

NCSoft made me happy for 7+ years... Goal achieved!
Nothing in their mission statement says FOREVER...

Are you saying that NCSoft never made you happy?

Nothing lasts forever...kinda part of life.

So NCSoft is a literal genie?

It's part of doing buisness.

When some things are not literal, then things can be easily twisted into a lawsuit over a matter of wording.

Their goal of making people happy is just a goal. Doesnt mean they have to actually even reach that goal. Or in another way, there goal is to make people happy, they never said exactly how many people so that could mean if two people are happy, then the goal is met and they kept their word.

In other words, it's BS.

Sure you can see it that way...just like the other big businesses out there.. their true goal is profit. As I said NCSoft lived up to their mission statement to me for over 7 years. Up until 2 months ago I think you will find very little Anti-NCSoft on the forums; even though at that point they were still an "MMO Killer" but I guess it only really matters when it's an MMO you like.

Well I guess I could have called it "fluff". But in this instance, I think George Carlin put it so much more eloquently! I say that his general philosophy about life and people really applies to something like that so-called "mission statement".

There were very few and the few that mentioned NCSoft past was was shouted down quickly, most if not all by the same people that is going around bashing NCSoft now.

No one said anything much about Garrett prior to the announcement nor didnt seem to stop them from giving NCSoft money. But all of a sudden it's suppose to be a big problem now?

Not many said much about Tabula Rasa closing and how NCSoft had a habit of killing games, and the couple that did was immediately attacked.

Barely a pip or a semblence of outrage when Auto Assault went under too.

It didnt matter to what was happening to other gaming communities and many just basically shrugged and said it's "just a natural process of the gaming industry."

But when it's in their own backyard, it's WW3 and all of a sudden NCSoft is the most evil game killing corporation out there and it's not just a natural process of an MMO being shutdown anymore it seems. Why? Because it probably was the mindset of, "oh it can never possibly happen to us." Well they was right, that is, until it happened. I dont remember all the charity events and stuff being announced prior much to Aug 31st. Within the last two months, I think I seem more ads about charity events than the entire time I've been here since i7.
