You're currently Premium. As a Premium, you get limited access to the game and your characters. NCSoft won't allow anyone to pay for the game and have done refunds for folks that had bought bundles because they're trying to shut the game down as cleanly as possible. The Paragon Studios crew were fired and kicked out of their building pretty much the same day as the announcement was made, so they don't have access to the tools to make everyone VIP and have full access. The best they could do is make people who were VIP permanently VIP while Premiums are just out of luck.
So blame NCsoft.
I do blame them. They are heartless. I had to get myself a used computer just to be able to play. Even though its the end, I wanted to stay upbeat and enjoy Paragon's last few weeks, but now I'm just left feeling very bitter and sad.
Apocalyptika, everyone who loves the game agrees with you. NCSoft is taking away something that has meant so much to us.....but don't allow them to change your mind about playing the last month. Play your characters and enjoy them to the fullest. You owe yourself that. If you do, you'll never look back and say 'I wish I had...'. A lot of wonderful people are trying to save the game, Check out CoHTitan.

Well, guess will have to test that when I get home. Pretty sure I remember Zwill saying that, but wouldn't be the first time I missunderstood something.
Forbin_Project is correct on this.
If you are VIP on Live, you are VIP on Beta.
If you are not VIP on Live, you are not VIP on Beta.
They do not implement the character limits on Beta as far as available slots as they do on the Live servers.
The only thing they did was enable non-VIP's to be able to access Beta. It was normally accessible only by VIP's.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I just downloaded beta to check things out. All the character slots say 'Unlockable'. This is probably a stupid question, but just to be sure... Unlocking these slots on beta will not use my 2 global slots on live, will it?

Also, thanks TJ. So guess just about everything but incarnates is available to premuims then, as you can purchase the SSA's and whatnot.
My old trial accnt is premium, and has 5 characters. To unlock the other 3 on beta, I simply bought char slots. So just copy your toons via the transfer tool on the forum, wait around 30 mins or so, and unlock them on beta.
I havent played in a long, long time. When I found out they were shutting the game down, I had to come back to play with all my characters. They are like long, lost friends! Why do I only have access to only 8 of them on 1 server? What is that? I can't pay to upgrade? If they are shutting down why can't they just let everyone have their character slots? Is that it then? Is that really all I can play with? That's absurd!
