Darrin Wade killed the game!

No, I don't mean the first SSA killed the game, nor the implementation of Signature Story Arcs period, I mean Darrin Wade, the NPC killed City of Heroes in revenge for us thwarting him. Realizing he could not have the world, he vowed to destroy it instead!

Obvious in hindsight, but he could have associates, I think we've been thinking far too outwardly on who murdered City of's future... Only an inside job could have done this, AND MY PRIME SUSPECT IS DARRIN WADE!

Darrin Wade's such a lame character :\

Maybe someone at NCsoft was unhappy that Wade killed Statesman - which led to his 'removal' from the game?

You know ... no iconic character to be figurehead for the game etc etc?

Just sayin'......

wait, wait, wait.

Wade had a meltdown. I know, I was there and watched it happen.

Actually, I was perfectly happy to turn him over to Lord Recluse for... processing... but, being a hero I had to be nice about it.

I would totally ignore and discount this as a joke. I mean, Lady Grey took him into custody to interrogate him. Vanguard has state-of-the-art retention facilities!

There's no chance we'd see him again, right?

Oh, wait. According to Matt Miller, there was a high likelyhood she would turn out to be a double agent for Batallion....

If that's the case...

Maybe she's using the knowledge of Rularuu to close us away from the world (just like he was locked into the Shard) so when Batallion arrives, nobody will be there to stop them!!

Coincidence?!

EDIT: Yaknow what, I'm going to use that as my "internal canon" reason as to what's happening (or happened after Nov 30th). Doesn't make me feel better, but it makes more sense.

I couldn't agree more.

Ugh, please don't remind me of that

Yeah, I wasn't crazy about that one either, but it was a distinct possiblity. Truth be told, I'd rather it be someone known than a new character like they seemed to be leaning towards at the end of it. A new character would be too obvious and/or feel shoehorned in if they wanted a double-agent.

Maybe Doc Aeon/Doctor Echo (who was an agent at first, but later learned he actually liked humanity at the last moment and came back in time trying to save us) or maybe Sister Psyche (using her 'death' as an excuse to rejoin with the fleet before the invasion- remember she was a mind rider as well as a powerful telepath- who knows what the Battalion can do, and if that was her true form!? Just as importantly, what made the FP seem so incompetent during the events that led up to Statesman's death- Including Manticore killing her? She did insist on it after all...)

Yeah, I like those possiblities more (particularly the Psyche one). As it is however, I have to work with what I had in the context of the post

So there you are. Sorry I reminded you!

Agreed. They could've used someone that isn't such a massively important NPC within the game. If they wanted to stick with the Vanguard angle, make it Guassian. He's not obscure and is well established, but at the same time he isn't so important that he's the leader of the entire freakin' group. Especially considering he's the head of Vangaurd Intelligence and Tactics, it'd probably make the most sense for him to be the spy.

I believe the final decision (IIRC what was said in the last coffee talk) was for the spy to have been Doctor Science, not Lady Gray.

always thought it was kind of weak for Statesman to die at the hands Darrin of all people. No climatic battle between him and LR and Archnos? Even a finall battle between him and Nemesis I would think would be better. Nope, thee most powerful hero meets his end by the hands of some random dude named Darrin

Nemesis makes much more sense. Since we kept beating him at chess, he decided to just burn the board to ash.

I'd have been much less annoyed at the Wade situation if they'd removed him from Sharkhead like they did to all the bluesiders they offed. Don't give that poor excuse for poorly utilized "shock" and "suspense" any more credit than he is due.

Wade to me will be forever more be nothing but a punk that got played and left to rot by Nemesis/Silos, hopefully without the slightest second thought or regret.

That pretty much sums up my take on the transparently vindictive removal of the games most iconic character.

It was a bad development move for our game as it turns out .......
