For teh future
If the game is good I'll check it out. If not, then no worries, I'm sure it will succeed anyways.
How deep of a spiritual successor are we talking about here? I mean, is it going to be exactly like COX except with things changed around barely enough to avoid a lawsuit? Or are we talking about an exact copy hoping that someone wont notice? Or something totally from scratch? |
Warshades !
One thing i cannot emphasize enough. Don't take anything from WoW, No "Silver" Mobs, No "Gold" mobs,

And yes, I have always had issues with AV's in CoX.

"classes", but not give a huge advantage to going freeform.
The idea is that you can do anything you can do in CoX in some way and probably import your characters from sentinel+ for story/costumes etc but at level 1 without gear.
The art objects will be new but eventually all the CoX bits will be covered and more.
Have a read of the Titan forums for more details.

I would support the successor if said game were actually worth supporting. I won't do it out of some deluded sense of blind devotion.

THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE CONTINUES!
Book I: A Tale of Nerd Flirting! ~*~ Book II: Courtship and Crime Fighting - Chap Nine live!
MA Arcs - 3430: Hell Hath No Fury / 3515: Positron Gets Some / 6600: Dyne of the Times / 351572: For All the Wrong Reasons
378944: Too Clever by Half / 459581: Kill or Cure / 551680: Clerical Errors (NEW!)
Totally from scratch. The idea was to take the good bits from CoX and change the bits we like less. For example the idea is to have some free form character development as well as

Well...it dont look like the type of COX I would be interesting in playing so far. It naturally looks like thier vision of COX and how it should be, which is fine as the yare the ones creating the game after all but I enjoyed COX for other reasons than the direction they are taking it in.

If you can get a new game to where CoX is now, it would be a matter of getting the word out in advertising. Marvel is using the fact that you can't create your own superheroes as an actual selling point. People want their own creativity, we just need to let them know where they can do so.

This. If it's worthy, then I will give my wholehearted support but if it's a steaming dogpile then it doesn't matter what it's spiritual origin happens to be, it's not gonna get my £££
Thelonious Monk
I'd love to see something like that materialize and be successful...but without corpoate level funding and support, how can we be assured that it will even last a couple of years?
I think CoX will be back under a different owner eventually. Remember Asherons Call? Well, it's back now and people still play it today.
Just as many of us left CoX for small stint, we always came back...I think the game will do the same for us at some point. There are just too many people dedicated to it. CoX is cash cow for someone out there who has the resources to make it happen.

For all my past criticism, I believe that Paragon Studios would be a very tough act to successfully emulate or follow. That's why I never had a good comeback to the "Well compared to (insert any other MMO game here)..." argument.
But as far as a successor my advice would be simple: Think fun first! I get that there are a lot of complex mechanics, animation etc behind every single thing that happens in an MMO. But, quite frankly as a player, that really doesn't interest me as much as the fun. It sure seems to me that as time went on CoH got more and more "process" oriented and, in some areas, less "fun". Sorry, there are probably people out there that can make this point far better than I but I hope you get the idea.
Options are fun (advantage CoH costume creator). Grinding is not fun (disadvantage CoH trials over time... or worse the incarnate soloist). Developing new and exciting things to do is fun. Building a constituency and failing to nurture that constiuency (or worse walking away from them) is not fun. And so on...
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.
My question to everyone is: in the event CoH can't be saved, can and will you get behind a spiritual successor/new super hero MMO?
If so, use this thread to send a message to whoever might be listening that is considering such an undertaking that a spiritual successor to CoH is something you want to happen.. |
