What to pair with /Sonic?

I have been wanting to roll a /Sonic toon lately, but not sure what to pair with it. I was thinking perhaps Dark or Cold, maybe Storm. I can see synergies with all of them, but is there a specific combo that seems to stand out?

Also, I am likely going to skip the KB attack, is there anything else in /Sonic worth skipping?

Personally with Nature Affinity released today, I'd try that (that's what I'm doing). It has corrosive enzymes, which does -RES and -DAM which, albeit, is a single target debuff stacks nicely with Sonic attacks and the set as a whole feels pretty well thought out so far.

Something to consider anyways.

The Porcelain God - DarkKinetics Corruptor
Meat Juice - DarkDarkSoul Brute
Pretty and Strong - Do you really have to ask?

Someone just pointed out the massive damage buffs one could get from Nature/Sonic/Dark...

I'm plugging in some numbers and it comes up good on Heals, Resistance, Damage buffs, Resistance Debuffs.

It's a good build to slot Entropic Chaos and Defender's Bastion procs in (as well as both BU procs).

OG fits; especially when dropping a Dreadful.

As far as skipping; Siren's Song and Shockwave get the axe (for the time being)

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

Is Nature going to be free to VIPs? If it is I may consider it...if not...I likely won't spend the points as I am looking forward to Bio Armor far more intently.

If it does cost points, I may consider it and eventually reroll into later...but for now, under those circumstances, I would prefer something else.

I have a rad/sonic and a kin/sonic. They're both fun, but the kin/sonic holds a special place in my heart. Lots of +dam plus lots of -res makes for some crazy teaming.

I skipped Aim on the kin/sonic, because I spend so much time damage-capped in teams anyway, and IOs + leadership gives me all the to-hit and accuracy I ever need. I actually took the sleep, but mainly as a purple mule. Had I been building her more for +def, I'd probably have reversed that choice, since it's not like kin hurts for recharge.

Synergy list:

further -resistance...
Storm: biggest -resistance in a single power
Cold: biggest sustained -resistance in a high recharge build thanks to heat loss

capitalizing on the -damage debuff which is buffed by resistance debuffs...
Dark: has absurd levels of -tohit as well
Kinetics: the ultimate combination for increasing team damage output

little bit of both...
Radiation: its debuffs being in toggle form means that you can focus on sonic blasting in long fights

Of course- sonic/sonic- (duh) great - res and really helpful for making things into butter. mez protection which is more valuable than I have realized, playing my other squishies. (AV's on teams=dead) (I always suggest people make these loud mouths)

cold/sonic- great team player and crazy debuffs on a single target. doesn't have much powers to protect yourself with, or mez protection, but is very very useful. crazy debuffs.
traps/sonic- mez protection and a little bit of everything! Very vers and fun to play! easy to solo as well!
kin/sonic- so good! so much damage once you get falcum shift. once you get some kind of defense, makes it really easy to survive since you have heals and endurance powers. combo is super fun and easy to solo as a defender in higher levels. no mez protection though.

of course you can choose any, but these combos have stuck out in my head as "good times".

rad/sonics-a little slow for me...with the set up time. great debuffs and known for being killers. no mez protection.
storm/sonic-is survivable from a pretty low level and handy for tight situations. good at pvp.
dark/sonic becomes very good after you get all your powers. the -to hit also helps with your survive ability.
ff/sonic-meh. lets you blast a lot because ff is easy to run. mez protection too.
trick arrow/sonic- lots of debuffs...so i imagine good. seems like a lot of set up though. sonics blast feel longer when playing this combo though.
havent tried thermal/sonic yet. maybe I shall...
empathy/sonic- it's okay. meh. never been a fan of empathy

Cold/Sonic with Burnout would be amusing, because nothing says "just die already!" quite like double Sleet + double Heat Loss for -120% resistance to start with and enough recovery to completely ignore the -maxend on Burnout. Bonus points if each Sleet has an Achilles proc that goes off.

So, since I have a couple of Cold toons, I am thinking Storm after playing in mids for a while...

GREAT CHOICE!
love my storm/sonic! she is a lot of fun to play and seems to be able to handle any situation. dies a lot less than most my defenders. the hurricane is great.

I have a dark/sonic that was lots of fun to team or solo.

I have a dark/sonic/dark that I think is my most powerful character. The controls in /sonic (Screech, Siren's Song) added to Dark Miasma give me good tools for both groups and single hard targets, and AV regen debuffing as well as sonic's -res effect. And that's on top of having a great heal and all the -tohit.

Silent Scream - Shadow Witch II - Liquid Serenade - Nebulous Dawn - Ghost Witch II -Xiberia

If I were rolling it, I would keep both Shockwave and Siren's Song. Get the overwhelm proc for Shockwave and you have 3 cones with good mitigation/-res.

One of the nice things is /Sonic would add control that NA is missing. You can even play stunbot with NA/Sonic/Dark.

I'd get rid of amplify. NA/Sonic/Dark can get very close to living at the damage cap without it.
The only other one's I'd consider would be Shout and Screech, but I'd want to keep them both.

Is there any particular reason no one has mentioned traps? Acid mortar provides very good stacking -res and you get it early. Poison Gas Trap completely neuters regen which synergizes very very well with -res on AVs. Force Field Generator provides very good defense for the entire team as well as mez protection. Those three powers are available very early to a defender, work very well with sonic's inherent -res, and are largely "fire and forget" in that you lay down a couple of traps and then start blasting without having to refresh anything mid fight. It allows for very good "uptime" on your sonic -res debuffs.

Solo it can be a bit frustrating as mobs seem to like to run away from you (don't know if it's Acid Mortar's debuff or your near capped defense from FFG or what), but on teams...you really feel like you're making an impact. Things just seem to go much smoother.

My traps/sonic was a joy to solo with. Siren's song is useless though due to all the dots from acid mortar and time bomb shenanigans. PGT and SD with ffg are usually enough mitigation though.

And with just SO's you can stack acid mortars as well. with IO's you can Incarnate soft cap as well as stack triage beacon for very good regeneration while stacking sonic on everything. Things melt.

Time M. can be made to tank and make use of the SS screech combo as well.

Does anyone know if fire upset sonic as the defenders most damaging blast set?

I only mentioned sets with sonic blast synergy in my post. Traps goes well with everything.

I did rad with sonic. It's a heavy debuffing machine. I always feel folks should go with what fits them the best, but I vote rad.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Heh, I usually have more trouble justifying why I'm not taking /sonic on a Defender regardless of primary.

Kin/Sonic is a very strong combo, but many of the others mentioned here work quite well also. I tend not to like Storm on Defenders because its in-total buff and debuff magnitudes are actually fairly low and it has a very high incidence of Knockback, which is especially problematic when you can't root and can't definitively kill what you knock.

I have a TA/Sonic/dark that's loads of fun. With the I24 changes he's gonna be a beast. lots of stuns/kdowns/sleeps/debuffs/damage.

Crush! Kill! Destroy!

EDIT: Just transfered him over to beta and wow. better'n i thought it was gonna be by quite a bit. With soul drain, OSA and Dreadful Wail can completely crush mobs.
only issue is how to fit in all the powers i want.
