The Cool Costume Tricks Thread

This is a thread to collect all the cool things you've figured out how to do in the costume Creator. This isn't for favorite costumes or individual pieces or characters. But very specifically things you are able to accomplish via Creative use of clipping, shading, scales and colors to cobble together things we might not have in the creator at the moment, or just certain ways things go together that many people don't know about.

Stole this idea from Flashtoo but it's soo cool I needed to share.

How to Strap Your armor and Back Pack to your character.

Want to give your character a back pack, but can't stand to have it floating back there with no visible support?

Want to Give them a fancy Chest armor, and finding yourself Running into the same problem, but backways?

Want to have BOTH but can't stand the idea that your character was impaled through the chest to keep them in place?

Well Have I got an idea for you!

Step 1:
Under "tights" or any of the robotic arms options, Select the "Leather Straps" texture like so:

Step Two:

Select a Pattern that Covers the entire chest, stomach and back, and Such as Tee or Tanker, and color it as you choose

Step Three: Apply your Chest armor

Step Four: Apply your back pack or wings.

Step Five. Enjoy your new, fully supported and carefully fastened equipment.

YAY MY IDEAS ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO STEAL AND MAKE INTO A WHOLE NEW THREAD

Ironik: There is a picture - the hyperlink in my name takes you to the post he was stealing. For the sake of convenience, here:

Other nice things I have discovered/used - blast goggles line up beautifully with the Valkyrie mask helmet detail, for a nice full-face gas mask:

The Celtic 2 chest emblem lines up beautifully with the over-shoulder mantle:

Further investigation on the first, how-to-strap-your-armor-to-yourself image has given me a solution to the issue of the male Leather Straps top not being available to females: the Chaos Leather top also has straps in all the right places.

Addendum: One more further discovery, that I forgot - combining the Straps top-with-skin pattern and the Gunslinger corset makes things even racier by drawing more attention to the underboob.

...yes, I am from Virtue. No, I do not actually use this costume.

On a less pocket-D note, I also found that the Tights Sleek texture matches the Excess Plus texture very well, letting you do this with boots:

FlashToo, you have many awesome tricks I may end up using.

I'm glad someone appreciates them and hope they are useful to people!

One that I knew about for a long time but forgot in previous posts: The female "Metal" top-with-skin, when used in conjunction with something that covers the torso but leaves the neck bare (in this case, the Victorian corset - various jackets and robes also work), makes a fancy necklace.

!!! That's excellent! I think I'm gonna test that out with a formal outfit I was planning.

I keep an eye on this thread--it is a wonderful resource of out of the box ideas.

Wow. Hot. Yet another reason I wish I lived in the CoH costume creator. Thanks so much for this thread. I'm both in awe and stupid jealous that I hadn't figured some of these out (though I did know about the Excess Plus trick).

I don't have too many that most people haven't heard of:

The standard "blend boots/gloves to tights' pattern":

In the Make-It-A-Feature category, using Jacket's short sleeves to "block out" the sleeves that come with a top, like so:

One that might be semi-original; how to get the Celestial Armor 2 gloves to be all the same color (or pretty darn close). With both colors the same, it looks like this:

Readjusted version:

Just move the secondary color to the left two places, and the shading will make it match to the primary color. This works for just about all the different rows of color, and makes these gloves much more usable, IMO.

Can't wait to see more neat costume tricks from y'all!

The Tights Sleek texture, applied to boots, makes them blend almost seamlessly with the Excess Plus bottom, creating the appearance of boots that reach all the way to the knee (and, on the outside, slightly past the knee) instead of just below the knee, where the actual boot-meets-leg seam is. Ignore the upper-thigh area of the Excess Plus bottom, it's not important - all about where the knees meet the calves. As there is no Excess Plus boots pattern, I deemed this useful for making costumes that look like the parts are supposed to go together.

Here is one this is frequently known but I am going to say anyways.

If you activate the ninja run ability, hit a power to draw a weapon, and then do an emote animation you will do the emote with the weapon/s in hand.
Note: You will probably need to command the emote multiple times to actually perform it.

Loads of people know this one already, but for the sake of completeness: Long pants + Boxing boots = saddle shoes.

Similarly, this one is actually suggested by the game itself (in the preset "Mobster" costume) but for some reason, I never see it - long pants + Cowboy boots = expensive Italian loafers.
