Some new primary powersets?

Tried playing a domi so many times but i find that i always run out of steam playing them. Played Dark/Psi recently and Plant/Psi played an elec dom too.

i cant seem to stick with them. I find doms intriguing and have always wanted a perma dom, but i find them tedious at low levels. Thats why i wana play a Fire dom cause i leveled a Fire/kin way back when and feel like i could play another.

Is it just me or are the control primaries getting a little old now? until dark recently, the newest powerset was elec! Where as melee have had 2 or 3 new powersets in the last year(ish) alone.

I really want a 50 dom and have since CoV was released but other that fire which as mentioned, i have previously leveled as a troller. No powerset wows me.

Thoughts?

There have only been three Control sets added to the game since Issue 0 - Plant Control, Electric Control and Dark Control. Unless there are sets that weren't leaked alongside Water Blast, Nature Affinity, Bio Armour, Psi Melee and others. then it will most likely be a very long time before any Control sets are added.

In one of the more recent coffee chats with Synapse, someone asked about new Control sets. He said that Control sets are difficult to make so there's nothing original coming up.

I think it's also a matter of customer demand. The devs do a lot more sets for melee ATs than others because melee ATs are very, very popular.

Also there are more ATs that can potentially share Melee or Armor sets (as well as Support and Blast sets). Control, Manipulation, Pet, and Assault sets are likely to remain redheaded step children for resource vs. reward reasons as well.

Well on the plus side: Martial Assault for Dominators in I24.

On the minus side: No Martial Control makes it a very unattractive choice for me, personally. I like having the pairings.

It is true that there is nothing to pair Martial Assault with. All of the control sets are elemental.

I've not seen martial assault, but I don't see why it cannot pair with mind thematically. mind&body and all that stuff...*shrug*

I can also see Gravity/Martial making a nice thematic pair.

How is Martial control even possible? You control everyone by threatening to punch them? A set filled with nothing but magic shurikens? Or would it be nothing but ST melee controls?

I've always felt that a Traps/Devices/Grenades style control set would be the best thematic option for a "natural" control set.

It'd be Ninjitsu control, throwing sticky bombs for immobilize, and the holds would be poison needles (ST) and choking poison bombs (aoe). T9 pet would be a ninja with similar controls.

The important thing to remember is that now, because we will have three powersets since Freedom, we are not allowed to ask for more until the poor, neglected melee ATs get their dreadful lack of powerset options addressed.

I don't think that's the point of creating fairly conceptually malleable powersets, though. The 'Hey Ninja Ninja!' cries emanating from Martial Assault are already pretty constricting in terms of concept, but we will (hopefully) be able to come up with something that makes a character not just a ninja. If "Ninjitsu Control" were an offered pairing, it'd be, "Hey you, make a ninja." Something tells me the devs would like us to go somewhat beyond our 12-year-old-boy fascination with ninjas...and make technological, electricity spewing ninjas, or darkness controlling ninjas, or fiery imp controlling ninjas. Maybe someone will make the illogical plant controlling ninja, who cuts his or her victims free of the vines of doom with ninja stars.

Having ninja tricks doesn't =/= being a straight up pajama toter. Look at batman.

A ninja in a different suit with lots of money is still a ninja.

Eh, if we're discussing natural control, I've always wanted to see a gadgets style troller set. web grenades, emp grenades, knockout gas grenades, bolos, a CC turret that shoots like..beanbags(knocking em down and such) at 26, and a modified version of a previously existing bots pet at 32. Patch together a "natural" set out of the art of /traps, /dev, /bots and maaaybe some of the art from blaster munitions.
...Really, I wanna have a set that's basically "control from the barrel of a space gun"

Either way, it'd reduce the amount of work they needed to do(compared to making the set whole cloth), and maximize the awesome.

To me Devices, Traps, Bots and Munitions are all technology rather than natural. Sure, you could get someone firing laser beams and creating robots, but that would go better with a Rifle Assault set rather than the shuriken and martial arts based Martial Assault. To me a natural control set would use some low-tech throwing weapons like Bolas, some melee pressure point strikes and possibly some things around presence and force of will.

I'd like both but right now something thematic with shuriken and martial arts would be better than just giving us robots and mechanical devices.

Hopefully this will lead to Natural feeling control sets. Options that spring to mind are Ninja Tricks which other people have already suggested, and Chemical/Alchemical Control which involves throwing a lot of phials or grenades. Someone else suggested a control based Arrow set like Trick arrow.

I think the problem with these is the pets. Once you create Attack Drones you are drifting into Technology origins. Although you could have gangster/ninja/thug pets in a set.
