Could I get some help with a delicious Elec/TW tank?

Alright, here's the dealio.
I tried to make a tasty, tasty staff/elec brute. I then ran into HORRIFYING realization that TW's awesome mace-y-electricy-doomball just looks cooler than a knife on a stick.
I'm trying to build up a sufficiently AWESOME Elec/TW tanker. I want to be amazing and defcapped and stuff, and I keep just running into the difficulty of this being my first TANKER. I've build plenty of trollers, a handful of corruptors, and one amazingly fun fortunata, but I want to start tanking, and I hate to admit that I'm just missing elec def-capping knowledge.

As it stands, I'm short 3 to all positionals, and an additional 3 to ranged. I'm like....admitting that I'll eventually have to farm up the gladiator's +3% defence, but I'll still have a ranged hole.

1. Is there any easy way to get to def-cap that I'm missing?
2. Could some brilliant elec/TW god of builds please look at my soon-to-be-made god of crackly, electricy violence? I wanna start solving problems via hitting and such, and I'm just coming up a 'lil short. (I do realize I have 3 slots un-placed atm, but..can't get 6 def from 3 slots, so...I dun see the purpose atm ><)

EDIT:::HOLY GOATS! Defensive sweep's def buff stacks with ITSELF? that's AMAZING! that's like..a 30% defense buff pre-IOs!.

...the more I play "giant hitty stick electric samurai", the more I start giggling with glee. I can DEFINITLY see a crazy indie-techno group writing a song about electric samurai's defending the world :P

The ONLY way I could be happier is if there was like..a "headbutt" animation in addition to the kick attack.

Rather than help you find a home for those remaining slots, I think you are missing several things...underslotted resistance, not slotting damage in attacks, force feedback set will send your baddies flying as you have it slotted and so on.

This is what I would do personally. I made this build and never brought the toon out of the 20s. My elec/dm is my longtime favorite so I am familiar with making a tough electric armor toon. I don't like slotting to positions unelss shield (etc...) so this approach is different. This could be reworked and improved further. Also, adding Melee Hybrid to this puts you near granite levels of resistance to most areas and beyond with Psi. Oh and I take reactive, rebirth for a build like this. Your call at the end of the day...

- FYI, I am aware I skipped dmg aura which will drive some folks crazy. I normally take that and may rebuild to pick it up should I finish the toon.

Good luck-

New list of why tanking rocks
1. I sofar have gotten applauded for CHARGING LIKE AN ADD MONKEY. I don't get that as a troller.

2. I'm coming over here from a WoW background, so I wanna contextaulize this stuff WoW-y. I think sofar the reason tanking here is awesome is because the CCingis all ACTIVE and happens DURING combat, not pre-combat. the "When CC happens" phase determiness how fun tanking is for me. That, and the "when aggro is made" bit

so..TLR, sofar, I LOVE tankings

You do realize that the defense softcap (normal content) is 45%? 32.5 M/R/A does get you one purple inspiration from softcap, though, which is very nice.

Be sure to turn off Force Feedback to see your more common recharge. As the other poster mentioned, slotting the FF set is bad.

You accuracy and damage in attacks is bad, especially acc versus plus level foes. Lightning Field needs Acc badly.

If you can't reach a build you like with 32.5%, you could do what I do instead. Go for 20% to all vectors and carry medium purples. They are very cheap on the market (you can buy stacks of 10 and have one market slot storing 10).

I'll see if I can work on posting something that incorporates what I think you need to improve. It'll be in the morning, though.

edit: LBE will cause you to redraw. I wouldn't suggest using it with TW.

heh. /beggin for help then

also...can I get a link to a good explination of how resistance to def debuffs work? I gotta feeling I'm eventually gonna make an ice/X tank, and I'd <3 to know I still rock the casbah as a def tank.

edit: gonna drop LBE, grab tactics, 4slotting adjusted targeting, adding kismet sofar for more connecting hittyness

and does /auctionhouse work in iTrials/TFs?

Resistance to def debuffs is pretty straightforward: if you have 50% resistance to debuffs, you resist half of the debuff. If you have 70% resistance to debuffs, you resist 70% of the debuff, and so on.

If you want to build for defense, you'll want the Fighting pool. Weave is ~8% extra defense to everything, and with Elec's resists to build on, Tough will dramatically reduce the damage you take from the game's most common attacks.

You don't need every power in Titan Weapons (by 50 you can drop Crushing Blow and maaaaaybe Titan Sweep), and Laser Beam Eyes and Energy Torrent should be totally unnecessary. Power Surge is, frankly, not particularly necessary either, considering the severity of its crash, and that you can cap S/L/E resists all the time with just toggles and the ATO proc.

Here is my extremely expensive IO build for my Elec/TW Tank that I absolutely LOVE to play. If you have the inf for it I guarantee you'll absolutely love it.

The empty slots in the attacks can be filled as you please. Frankenslotting could work very well, or purples if you can afford them. I left a slot in LF for the new Tank proc in the coming ATO set.

I made the IOs level 33 for exemplaring, but the stats would be better at 50 if you used all level 50 if you don't exemplar any.

Between Power Sink and the end discount from Energize, Conserve Power is largely redundant. A single slotted FA gives you ~86% resistance to ToHit debuffs. It can be nice to turn on in high debuff situations. Hence, why I put it in but left it off.

Here's what I'm planning, I'm pretty sure I've posted it before with one small change. Softcapping on an Elec is doable, but you give up a lot to get there and you won't have any DDR to keep it up anyways. This build gets you to 47% S/L and 38% E/N defense at the tail end of Barrier, and as long as the Tanker ATE fires you'll be resistance capped to S/L/E. And you have enough recharge for perma-Hasten, almost-perma-Energize, and to run RA->FT->DS->AD->FT. That's enough damage there for even the brutes and scappers to take notice.

1. Spiral, I'mma fascinated with your build.
2. so...positionals is harder to hit than S/L/E/N. coolness/ty for the knowledge
3. Will Kick/Boxing trigger redraw?
4. if I focus on the gladiator's armor first, purples second, will my build suffer for having sirroco's in whirling smash?
5. So are fire and cold rarely used?

6. Vector question: how is stuff determined if it's melee or not. is it a "only attacks with a punching animation are melee", or is it a "I can CHARGE IN and their attacks default to melee"?

P.S. Ty for all the aid everyibe L(

2. Yeah, lotsa folks go SLEN on electric. Shoulda mentioned that as a possible path.

3. Yes, any pool power will cause redraw. You want to avoid any attack (except Brawl) outside of TW attacks.

5. They are for the most part. Many fire and cold attacks have a smashing/lethal component, too.

6. Each and every attack has a defined set of vectors. Your highest defense versus any of those vectors is used. Most attacks have one positional vector and 1-2 typed vectors. There are exceptions, such as Dominate/Mesmerize being Psi vector only.

Thanks! It took a lot of re-designing to finally put it all together, and I'm 14 XP bubbles away from finally putting it all together for incarnate trials.

Yep. Easy way to think of it is that it takes three or four slots for the best S/L/E/N improvements, but almost always six for positional.

Sadly, yes. I only slotted mine as a KC mule.

I slot for glad armor on the belief that I can convert my way to victory there, and a I've turned into a horrid marketeer so now I'm building all the time for purples.

Honestly, I'd go for the Erads, Kinetic Combats, Reactive Armors, Mocking Beratements, and Adjusted Targeting first to get your defense up. The Tanker ATEs aren't too pricey either, go for those too. Once you're all set there, then go for the purples. Surviving is job one.

EDIT: And I'd skip Scirocco's and go Oblit if you're hard up for purples. Scirocco's is great for positional defense and damage auras, its horribly lousy if you're building for recharge for both global and the attack itself.

Pretty much. Fire/cold only enemies are rare, but you'll have plenty of resist anyways so its nothing major.

Its melee if its typed melee, you can shoot someone point blank in the face and it'll still be ranged if its typed range.

wait! shoulda mentioned: I have a "buying heroes/villains packs" problem, so I have many, MANY, MANY reward merits.
so really, I'm only focusing on purps, and the gladiator's armor, since they're the tricky pieces

Either? If you have plenty of merits left over, though, I'd go with the proc since you can scoop up converters and grab the Glad Armor proc on the cheap.

Here is a build i've had for a while, but he's incredibly robust. It could probably be tweaked with the new ato's coming in. concerntrated on S/L/E/N defense, just over 40% and a bit of extra +Hp.
