Fire/Dark - Rate combi against AV... and other questions ^^

Hi everybody.

I started an fire/dark (lvl 37) and i like it. (The KD-procced bonfire is a beast and dark defense/-tohit makes it very save)
Still i thought fire would do more damage (The imps use one power, brawl, every 3 sec or so).

So, i would like to hear your opinion about this combination (on a low budget io build):
- Do you think such a troller can be used as an AV and Monster killer?
- How high would you set the difficulty settings for such a troller on farms? (if doable)
- Will the "were is the glorified damage?"-experience vanish in the 40s and with incarnate abilities?

Thanks in advance

Have fun

As someone who does not farm..I don't think it would be great for farming. At least, not the usually BM type mission. Tar Patch, while great, would take a bit of work to get recharge fast enough for a good farm..unless you dont mind waiting a bit between mobs.

Against AVs..yeah it would be good. I dont have experience with Fade and Soul Abs..Im not sure if you can perma them, in the same way as say..a Rad with AM, or Farsight from time.

Nothing wrong with the combo, but for what your asking..farming, avs and gms..other combos will be better.

Your first and second question are best accomplished with different builds but to answer your questions

1 - sure, it'll be slow solo, on a team you'll contribute
2 - 4/8, slower than top farm builds but you'll do ok.
3 - You have hotfeet and you'll get enough damage when you get your epics. I would recommend the villain epics for another pet.

For your reference this is the Elec/Dark I run. She was tanking +5s in her low 40s. I didn't build her for damage but you can take a similar build approach with yours. Since you have hotfeet and imps you do more damage by default.

I also wouldn't invest too much in revolving your build around bonfire, enjoy it while it lasts but be prepared to explore your other options.

@MisterD:
I thought so. Thx for the answer.
As i understand this combo will not be fast (so no real farmer), but could do it.

@Nemu_:
Never thought about it, but now you mentioned it, it is clear: farming is a lot of ae, while AV killing is mostly single target (and specials), so it is very difficult to achieve both in one build.

-About answers 1 till 3: Good to know others also think the same
My thoughts were: /dark is a very good team contribution -> more damage dealers (Team/pets) = more multiplier effect
I thought of "mace mastery" for this toon... an additional pet and additional 20% Resi-Debuff (besides the Defense Armor )

-About your build: thx for the reference
There are some nice ideas... most times i forget the HOs
Does the +3 Def Steadfast IO in Shadows Fall gives this 3% also to everyone within power range?

-About bonfire+proc:
I know ^^, but i hope that they will not dissolve the change entirely
(i read most of the bonfire discussions here and there are 2 facts: 1. bonfire for itself is uber now; 2. The devs must have known it from the testserver and havenĀ“t done anything yet)

@all:
And an additional build question:
Has someone tested putting damage procs in Dark Servant? (there are 2 i think)

I haven't tested it (mine is lvl 20), but there are far more than two it could take.
Touch of the Nictus (neg), Cloud Senses (neg), Neuronic Shutdown (psi),Ghost Widow's Embrace (psi), Gladiator's Net (lethal), Trap of the Hunter (lethal), and Unbreakable Constraint (smash)

So I have a fully IO'd Ice/Dark troller W/ purples. I've tested and tested different things in Fluffy (Dark Servant) from price to sets, I finally settled that either 4-5 Touch of the nictus (w/o the proc) or 4 Dark Watcher's Despair were best. Dark Watcher's Despair really seems to keep the ToHit Debuff on foes a lot higher, and tough was better when I had not slotted Twilight Grasp with anything. So I suggest DWD over most things.

Otherwise to all you other questions, I have no answers, I run my Fire troller with Time. Which I completely different in my opinion.

Oh and remember that the enhancement set in Fluffy only effects the power he is using that the set refers too. So any proc will only proc on the specific attack, not all of them.

Thanks a lot for the answers

@PurpleThirteen13:
Thanks for the last hint. I will test some procs on the testserver.

My standard slotting for Fluffy is four Dark Watcher's Dispair for the recharage set bonus, for it helps with what Fluffy does well... up the - to hit.

As to farming, you might be slower then the rest but it would be worth your time to farm ae tickets from time to time to keep a supply ready for rare salvage. As for setting, since speed is king of farming, go with just a level or two over your own and at /8 with no bosses. If you keep dying, lower the level but not the number.

And for your info, my ice/kin troller farmed its little heart out so I could affort my later fire/storm (which took over the role of farmer before my ss/fa brute came alone). So any toon can farm, some are just really slow at it (like my ice/kin). So if you are really trying to get into farming, my best advise is to pick one of the varies farm toon builds out there and then just use your fire/dark to finance it.

AV/GM Solo-ing - Likely you do ok with a billion or two build. Most days for me, either my toon has the damage but not the debuffs, or the other way around. With a fire/dark, you should be able.

As a combo, YES. I have solod AVs but GMs run out of tar patch and are a little more tricky than running a toggle base rad. In my opinion, the key for this combo is recharge which is almost always expensive. I have mine capped to s/l/n/e/f/c and all 3 def positions with 75% s/l resist, perma hasten, perma fade, perma soul absorption, double stacked tar patch, perma indom will for status protection and so on. As mine is built, I can pretty much do anything including farm with ease but what fun is farming. My pylon time is 54 seconds on first attempt (did use lore) so dps is good enough. I am sure I could get that down lower if I really tried. Only did it once out of curiousity.

As a budget build, things get tricker and you will have to make compromises. I would aim for s/l def cap, solid resistance to s/l and as much recharge as you can afford.

Good luck.
