Zero to Awesome Redeux! 31 Day Project
I need to flesh out the bio a bit more. I've already got Star Trek and Ghost in the Shell references in the character name, and the John Carter reference in the "actual" name and world she's from, and I wanted to work in one or two more space opera-style references just for good measure, I've just been too busy to do it. ^_^
But my idea was a kind of reverse-John Carter where she's an alien that wound up being transported to our planet somehow. |
I'm buying them for a low price, say 12.1 million each.
I'm listing them for a much higher price, say 35.1 million or 41 million.
Nothing more complicated than that.
Here I thought she was a homage to Zhaan of Farscape http://www.henson.com/fantasy_scifi....ntent=farscape

ATI've never actually watched Farscape. I always meant to, but honestly, I've never even seen part of one episode.

Allied to all sides so that no matter what, I'll come out on top!
Oh, and Crimson demands you play this arc-> Twisted Knives (MA Arc #397769)
Hmm, I didn't think ATOs could be converted at all. You learn something new every day.
I have 5 converters saved up, so at some point I want to see what I can manage with those. Maybe I can just buy some cheap ATOs and try to turn them into more expensive ones. Normally I use them on purples, or maybe on PvP IOs.
Anyway for what it's worth, I sold the rest of my Performance Shifters overnight and this morning. Nothing else has sold. I've put in bids for some more ATOs... but all I've bought are three brute ATOs, which I put back up for sale at a higher price. At the moment I don't want to reveal what that price is. ^_^ I also pulled down the Decimations and relisted those.
I ran several tip missions and then the hero morality mission, which is still Fire in the Hole since I'm 28. I really dislike that one. But I earned another hero merit, which gave me two again, and I converted another 50 regular merits, which cost me 20 million and got me to 3 hero merits. I've already purchased and slotted a Miracle unique and Numina unique, so this time I went for a Luck of the Gambler +7.5% recharge, which I put in Maneuvers.
I also bought the rest of the dom ATO set, so I have that to slot. Right now I have 5 of 6 slotted in Seeds of Confusion.
I ran a quick Summer event via the LFG tool... I was the 2nd highest person on the team, and the level 44 brute did not necessarily have a great deal of defense. But we managed to get all of the badges except ninja monkey, which we only missed by 1 or 2 kills. So we did pretty good, even if people died a lot. I levelled to 29 and I got an Overwhelming Force dam/end/rech, so that's 2 pieces of the set that I need.
That was pretty much my evening. ^_^

He means use Enhancement Converters to turn one ATO into another one. You can use converters to turn an enhancement into another of the same set, type, or rarity. With ATOs i think it's limited to "same set" or "Any other ATO"

Glad someone caught that!
I've been reading a book called Jane Carver of Waar which is both a homage to the John Carter books, and kind of a parody of those sorts of books, given that the main character is female thrust into a John Carter/John Norman uber-macho/sexist fantasy world. And, of course, I saw the John Carter movie recently (on dvd). They did a pretty good job on it I thought. I need to flesh out the bio a bit more. I've already got Star Trek and Ghost in the Shell references in the character name, and the John Carter reference in the "actual" name and world she's from, and I wanted to work in one or two more space opera-style references just for good measure, I've just been too busy to do it. ^_^ But my idea was a kind of reverse-John Carter where she's an alien that wound up being transported to our planet somehow. |

Day 10 - July 10, 2012
Call me dense, but I just don't think far enough ahead sometimes. Case in point: I was worried several days ago that my Decimations would not sell and I relisted them at a lower price. And then I heard that Water Blast was coming out for sure on Tuesday (I had not been paying attention apparently), and my only thought was, "Cool, I have to play one right away!"
Not, "Oh, my Decimations are going to be very valuable!" Or "I should buy some Blaster ATOs now!"
Anyway for anyone who jumped on the water blasting train, this probably looks very familiar. I ran a Death From Below with seven water blasting Corruptors, and a lone Dark Dom. I ran through three DFBs and then did some PLing to get my new Corr up to 22 before the end of the evening. For whatever that's worth, since I only gave myself one night to completely ignore my current project.
In the meantime I continued to let my brute ATO bids fill, and sold a couple of things including one of the Decimations for exactly what I was listing it for. Whoever bought it for that got a good deal. Well, not really since it's still a large markup over the recipe price -- but it was pretty cheap considering what they would go for just 24 hours later.
I finally clued in when I went to list another of them and saw that there were only 9 for sale, with some sales of 50 million. And actually, the other one I had listed for 31 million sold for 50 million, so not everyone knows how to bid creep properly. I listed the next to last one for 41 million, realizing I should have just left all of them for sale at that price.
ATO bids continued to fill. I ran nothing on Dilithium Flower Tuesday night though.

Day 11 - July 11, 2012
I was feeling a bit like I was slacking off on my project -- I didn't get a lot done over the weekend, and then skipped doing anything Tuesday except checking the market. So tonight I ran 5 tip missions, then ran a Summer event, then joined a mission team and got to level 30. After this I ran my level 30 costume mission. As I was doing this I thought, "How long has it been since I ran the cape and aura missions? Thank goodness I don't have to do those anymore!" And of course, I almost immediately realized that, no, I don't have those unlocked on this account. Which actually wasn't a bad thing, it felt almost nostalgic to run them again. I haven't done that since the unlocks were made available last year.
So I ran both the cape and aura missions, even though I don't plan to use a cape or an aura other than the one I already have. I think maybe my next move is to unlock the Hess task force through Ouroboros. I'm 30 now after all!
After my Summer event run I have 3 of the 6 piece of the Overwhelming Force set. Still not sure about how many I actually want to use though.
I was also starting to wonder if my ATO flipping plan was a good one. It takes patience to do this, and I'm on a schedule. I hadn't had a lot of things sell in the last few days, so I wasn't seeing any money come in. And then -- a brute ATO sold for 100 million, and I felt better. It doesn't take many sales to justify this strategy!
By Wednesday I had 1 Decimation left to sell, and guess what? There were NONE for sale! Most of the recent sales had been for 50 million, but given the lack of any competition at all, I listed mine for 51 million. Why not? Someone's going to want it bad enough to buy it.
Within 2 hours for 60 million, as it turned out. I love impatient buyers!
I also put in bids for some more Decimation recipes. Whatever I can get I can probably sell by the weekend.
While running to the cape mission contact in Skyway I found a team fighting Babbage, and no surprise, there was a lot of water blasting involved. I think the were trying to rust him to death!
I joined in and got the badge + 2 merits.
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
By the way, this is the new aura that they were giving away on Tuesday. I was in AP with my new blaster and someone was showing it off so we could see what it looked like. The bubbles kind of expand outward...
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
Few more late night notes:
I went ahead and ran A Madman's Council from Ouroboros. Takes about half an hour or so to run solo, introduces Ernesto Hess as a contact. I still need to do a Synapse and a Citadel and a Manticore, but I want to run a Hess TF in the next week or so. I like Hess, it's a fun and quick Task Force.
Along the way I got two very nice drops -- Devestation Accuracy/Damage and Obliteration Accuracy/Damage/Recharge, both level 30. I crafted both and placed them in my base for now.
I'd also purchased 4 of 5 Decimation damage/recharge recipes (level 40/max level) for 8.1 million each. I had a bid in for 5 accuracy/damage/recharge as well for 9.1 million each, but none of those bids had gone through. These two seem to be the most scarce of the Decimation set, but there were some of each for sale. The acc/dam/rech were selling for around 10 million. I rebid for 5 at 10.1 million and purchased all five instantly. Hrmm... my first instinct is that if I bought instantly then I overpaid. On the other hand, there are exactly 2 crafted for sale, and they are still selling for 50 million or more.
So no, I didn't overpay.
I crafted 4 Decimation dam/rech and 5 acc/dam/rech. Some I put in my base, two of the acc/dam/rech I put up for sale.
I also took a trip to Fort Trident, converted 50 regular merits into a hero merit (giving me 2 total), and spent one of them on a random roll of 5 recipes. I didn't want to do this until level 30, because the random recipes will be at your level and a level 30 recipe always sells better than a level 28. But in this case it probably didn't matter -- I intended to show how you can make money off random recipe rolls, but this time around I think all I've really demonstrated is that random is random. I got a particularly weak roll -- the Entropic Chaos, Lockdown, and Luck of the Gambler will probably sell, but maybe not for a lot of money, I'll have to see to that later. Impede Swiftness is something I sometimes use in builds but it's not hard to come by, and the Dark Watcher's Despair I find particularly useless.
It might be worth attempting an in-set conversion on the Luck of the Gambler, I certainly can't get a result that's any worse. I have seven converters now -- but three of them on a rare recipe like LotG could be a waste of time and converters if I don't get lucky.
And this is my new level 30 costume. I've already been complimented on it, which either means I did a good job or guys like see a lot of skin. Even if it's blue skin.
At this point I'm level 30, more than halfway to 31... and I have about 500 million influence, with a lot of ATOs for sale or stored in my base.
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
Day 12 - July 12, 2012
Today I ran five tip missions and then the morality mission. Now that I'm level 30 I have a new set of tips and a new morality mission -- Crossing the Line, which I much prefer to the level 20-29 one. This is largely because it's easy... all you really have to do is click on a desk and then take out Doc Quantum. But you can blow up a lot of proximity bombs if you like, which I always do because blowing things up is fun.
This gave me 2 hero merits again. I went back to Fort Trident and converted another 50 regular merits, so that gave me 3. Then I spent one on another random roll.
As I said yesterday, random is random. And sometimes all the random goes in your favor. As bad as my roll yesterday was, this one more than made up for it. ^_^
I may try to sell some of the nice recipes I have here, but I largely wanted to do a couple of random rolls just as another exercise and an example on a way to make money. It probably works best at level 50, but as you can see, 2 merits bought me some junk, and some very valuable stuff that I could sell for a nice profit. ^_^ But I need the LotG +recharge IOs for my build anyway so those go into base supply for the moment.
Consider that I spent 2 hero merits a few days ago just to buy 1 level 30 Luck of the Gambler +recharge. I did very well on my two rolls for 2 hero merits, thanks to the 2nd one working so well.
I also went ahead and tried a conversion on the sucky LotG end/rech after crafting it. I do not recommend doing this on simple rare IOs, especially ones that have 6 different pieces in the set. There are better things to do with your 3 converters. But as I said, I couldn't get anything worse, and I wanted to take a gamble. A Defense or +7.5% recharge IO would have been a real score. Instead I got a def/end, which is not bad all things considered, I'd take that over a def/rech or the triple.
I finished the evening by running a Summer event and getting the Overwhelming Force acc/dam. So that's 4 runs and 4 different pieces of the set -- so far, so good! I also leveled to 31, which is alright. But I haven't run any TFs in days and I feel like I'm leveling the hard way. I need to start a Citadel or Manticore or something tomorrow night. I also need to get my Midnighter's badge since I'm already 31... maybe just run to Night Ward, though I kind of like running the hero Midnighter's arc actually. It's easy enough to run quickly.
On the marketing front, when I got home I had sold two more brute ATO's for 100 million each. My Decimation acc/dam/rech IOs had not sold, there were more than 10 for sale so other marketeers are muscling in again. But I had the four dam/rech IOs as well. and a quick check showed that there were only 2 of these for sale.
I placed one for sale for 51 million. It sold in half an hour for 70 million -- and by then there were no more for sale.
I placed another for sale for 62 million. It sold for 70 million within 15 minutes.
These are the recipes that I bought Tuesday night for 8.1 million, mind you. See how easy this is?
Also, having sold out of the brute acc/dam ATOs, I put in a bid for five more at 36 million each. I also bid on five blaster acc/dam ATOs at 22 million each, because, hey, blaster stuff is probably going to sell well all through the weekend. I bought one blaster ATO early in the evening, and then I suddenly bought three of the brute ATOs within the span of a minute.
Again -- I sold two of these overnight for 100 million each, and now I've bought 3 more for 108 million total.
Mind you, not everything sells fast like that, I have a lot of other things for sale that aren't selling at the moment. But you see how easy this kind of thing can be.
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
Day 13 -- Friday the 13th, July, 2012
During the day while I was at work, I sold my last Decimation dam/rech and bought 9 blaster ATOs. And then before the evening was out I'd sold one of those ATOs for 50 million, after having purchased it for 16.1 million. You can't ask for a better and quicker return on investment than that.
I think I listed it for just over 41 million too. I listed another, it has yet to sell. So only 2 sales today but 120 million in sales. I can live with that. ^_^ And I have blaster ATOs that I hope will sell over the weekend!
Tonight seemed a good night to try and work on my build a bit. I like to slot level 30ish IOs, and I like being able to improve my performance in my 30's, and that happens to be when you start getting 3 slots a level so it's always worked well to start IOing around those levels.
I only had 2 free slots to work with so this took an hour or so, but I bought most of what I could manage for cheap and instant purchases. I bought two Basilisk's Gaze end/rech/hold for 8.1 million each, which is not so cheap but much better than what some of the other pieces will cost me. I bought two rech/holds as well, and two sets of Enfeebled Operation (I had parts of one slotted already in Carrion Creepers, the power that in theory I will eventually slot with Gravitation Anchors). These IOs are very cheap as you can see. A Performance Shifter endurance was cheap, and I bought what I could manage of the Decimations and the Positron's Blast set -- some of these pieces are not available for instant sale, particularly the Decimation triples and most of the Positron's Blast set. Nor is the Freebird stealth IO apparently.
Anyway by the time I was done this is what I had to show for it -- a full set of the Dominator ATO is slotted, along with half of my two Basilisk Gaze sets, one full and one partial Enfeebled Operation set, various pieces of Decimation and Positron's Blast, and the Miracle and Numina unique along with Performance Shifter endurance and chance for +endurance proc (which I bought for 1 hero merit). I also have 1 Luck of the Gambler +7.5% recharge slotted in Manuevers.
Still a work in progress, with the bulk of the expensive stuff still to come. But not a bad start! I left bids up for one of the Decimation triples that I need, and had bought one of them only a couple of hours later. And there are a few other things I can buy cheaply and for the most part instantly -- the Doctored Wounds set, the Steadfast Protection, maybe some pieces of the Call to Arms, we'll have to see.
I also crafted the rest of the recipes that I'd gotten with my random rolls. So far they're all in my little base's storage. I even crafted the Dark Watcher's Despair, surely the most useless of the random recipes I got. I decided against all common sense to try and convert it to something more valuable -- conversion out of set costs only 1 converter, and you never know what you might get. Gambling is addictive! But alas, my first attempt yielded an Induced Coma acc/rech, which is hardly an improvement. I tried again and got a Scirocco's Dervish acc/dam. That, at least, is a more useful IO.
After all of this I joined a Moonfire Task Force, which took an hour and a half (the team was not going for speed) and got me level 32 and 4 bubbles into 33. Yay Fly Trap! I ran SSA1 twice, once for the hero merit and once for 20 extra merits -- if you'll recall I ran it last Friday, so my seven day cooldown was over. I converted 50 regular merits to a hero merit, so after I'd spent 1 on the Performance Shifter proc, I have 3 left over, and a little over 50 regular merits on me.
I finished the evening by running 5 hero tips. Didn't do a Summer event, I was getting tired and wanted to write this up before heading to bed. But I'm very close to 33 now. Tomorrow for sure I want to hit 35 and also gain Midnighter's access.

Day 14 - July 14, 2012
Almost at the halfway point. My goal for today was level 35 and Midnighter Access. But first! I joined another random group Summer event via the LFG tool.
It didn't immediately throw me into an event queue, so I decided to run to Steel Canyon and start the Midnighter's Arc. Then, right after clicking the tram for Steel Canyon South, the "join queue" window popped up. I clicked it, then zoned, and I wondered what would happen. I zoned into Steel Canyon with a message that I'd been disconnected from the event or the queue and did I want to rejoin? I clicked yes, and the game basically froze up at that point. I had to restart.
Oh well! Rejoined the queue after logging back in and was almost immediately flung into an event. It went well, and I got my first duplicate Overwhelming Force. Well, I say duplicate, but it's a different level so they won't stack...
Next I ran the Midnighter's Arc. I know you don't have to, but it's easy to speed through it in half an hour or so solo, and you get merits for it. I kind of like it for those reasons.
After this I decided to do some explore badge collecting. I got all explore badges and history plaques for The Hollows, Boomtown, Echo of Galaxy City, Echo of Dark Astoria, Brickstown, Founder's Falls, and then a little later in the day I also did First Ward and Night Ward.
All of this put me one Spelunker badge away from Atlas Medallion, so I did that next via Ouroboros. ^_^
I'm at some 275 badges now, I think.
First Ward and Night Ward have some pretty scenery in them. I can't help get the feeling that if either of these zones had a nice Task Force, people would visit them more. I mean, why do people go to Cimemora? It's a pretty zone, but most people only go there because of the ITF.
Being a bit bored later in the day, I decided to run the "Join Ouroboros" arc. I can't help but think there should be a badge for this... I mean, I have a badge to say I've joined the Midnighters, I have a badge to say I've joined the Vanguard, but what proof do I have that I really joined Ouroboros?
For that matter, the various Ouro task forces should have badges. Nothing fancy, but... people would run them more often if there was, at the very least, some sort of badge for doing so. Some of them are fun. ^_^
Later still I ran my five tip missions and the Crossing the Line morality mission, which gave me another hero merit. I converted 50 mere regular merits and that gave me 5 hero merits. I promptly spent 2 on a Basilisk's Gaze quad.
Nothing sold overnight and nothing sold most of the day. Even though I know that I'm doing a lot of flipping of ATOs and trying to get good prices and, because of that, I can't expect fast turnover... I was still a bit worried. At the same time I hadn't managed to find any teams or join any TFs and was only a little over halfway through level 33.
And then a couple of things sold, and I joined a PuG Manticore. The leader wanted to turn the difficulty up and plow through everything, and I was okay with that, even though my general rule is I can do two TFs at +0 using speed and stealth in the time it takes to plow through one TF at +2, and I will earn nearly as much experience. But since we were doing the "kill everything you see" approach, I finally, after 33 levels, decided to use one of my XP Boosters. I have 2 on the account, and was saving them up for when I could really use them... but I wanted badly to hit level 35.
I hit 34 by the 2nd mission. Halfway through, someone complained about how many kill alls these old TFs have. I had to point out that Manticore has exactly two total.
In the 2nd mission, after we had turned up the difficulty, one of the tanks was taking on a lot of damage. The Peacebringer kept healing, which was nice but... when your PB is one of your main healers, it might mean you're pushing things to the limit. Then we had the team go in two different directions in a large room, and one of those directions included a Crystal Cyst. Team wipe. The leader immediately blamed the cyst... but good grief, if we'd stuck together we would have been fine.
Anyway, no real harm done.
After the third mission someone wanted to know "how much more do we have to go?" Ugh. It's not as if Manticore is a very long Task Force. Since I know Manti so well, I said, "this mission is a find the glowy, after this is another find the boss, then meet Miss Liberty and find and free the councilman in King's Row, then a hunt in Crey's Folly and the final mission." There! I don't know if I was subconsciously making it seem like we had a long ways to go... but after all, we were only on the 4th mission and getting complaints about "how much longer?"
Anyway this seemed to send the message to one of the corrs that we should speed things along, because suddenly without any more discussion this one corr started stealthing every mission. Well, that's how I normally do it so I'm okay with that too. Dilithium Crystal can't stealth yet and doesn't have recall friend or ATT, but if someone else wanted to do the work, that's fine.
They stealthed the next mission too and the leader pointed out that the boss's name was Manning, so I guess that was as good as agreeing to a new strategy of stealthing everything. We quickly blew through the next two missions and finished the task force in about one and a quarter hours. And the good news is that I hit level 35 in the final mission.
So -- level to 35, check. Midnighter's access, check. Sell some stuff, check. Summer event, check. Tips and morality mission/hero merit, check. Turned out to be a good day!
I've been earning prestige for my little base of course -- the hard way I mean, I haven't converted any more influence to prestige -- and now my base has a med bay and an oversight center with a combo power/control unit, which I don't actually need for anything yet. I also crafted a linear accelerator -- I think that's what it's called, it's the 2nd tier empowerment station. The first tier doesn't do anything for endurance which is one of those things I wanted access to. But the anti-knockdown buff is something I've used!

But I have a Miracle +recovery slotted, a Numina +regen/+recovery slotted, and I am getting a 1.5% endurance bonus from Steadfast Protection, 2% endurance bonus (times 2) from Basilisk's Gaze, 2.5% bonus (times 3) from Call to Arms (2 sets) and Positron's Blast, and a 4% bonus from Gravitational Anchor if I manage to slot that.
Even currently with just the two Performance Shifters, the Miracle and Numina uniques, and three pieces of Basilisk's Gaze in one power I am rarely running out of endurance, but that's with me not running Manuevers which is not really slotted yet, and not running Stamina or Scorpion Shield either. Still, when fully slotted I don't think I'll have any endurance issues. Per MIDs I have 3.16/s recovery and only 2.3/s endurance drain. If I feel in actual game play that I need more endurance I can adjust things around, of course. ^_^

Day 15 - July 15, 2012
I sold a lot of stuff today -- all of the Blaster ATOs, for one. In fact at one point I sold two Blaster ATOs within 5 minutes of listing them, and then sold a Decimation 2 minutes after listing it. The Decimation acc/dam/rech I listed for 36.1 million and it sold for 40 million, but some had sold for 50 million before that and one sold for 50 million right after mine, so I listed the next one (I have two left) at 41 million. And... it hasn't sold yet.
I was listing the Blaster ATO's for 41 million too. That was a good listing price for them this weekend, it seemed.
Other than that, what did I accomplish today? One of the things that being 35 allows me to do is join Vanguard, so I did exactly that. While I was working on that a friend was starting up a ticket farm in RWZ, and on reflection I decided that a little exp and a bunch of tickets would be a good thing. Sadly, my friend's computer kept overheating and shutting down, so I only managed half a level and about 680 tickets... which I promptly spent on 10-14 bronze rolls and came away with literally nothing interesting. I was hoping for a Basilisk's Gaze, or Call to Arms, or Steadfast Protection -- all things I want for my build. But I got a bunch of junk instead.
Much later in the day I convinced my friends to join me for a Synapse Task Force, which was 58 merits and nearly a level of experience, and of course one of the things I need for Task Force Commander. I still need Citadel and Numina.
I finished the evening with 5 tips and then a Summer event run that went pretty rough -- I saw that I was teamed with a brute, a scrapper, and a widow and I thought, "Oh, this will be easy!" And then they all died within the first minute of the Time Gladiator event. The crowd turned against us before we brought the first AV down. Good thing I already have all the badges! Anyway, the Casino Heist went much better, and I finished with the Overwhelming Force that I already have two of. Ah well!
I also converted 50 merits to a hero merit, giving me 4, and promptly spent 2 of them on another Basilisk's Gaze quad. I put bids in for two Basilisk's Gaze acc/dam early in the day (and bought some of the Call to Arms recipes and put in a bid for two of the acc/dam/rech, and I managed to buy one Call to Arms (for 2.1 or 3.1 million I think) and one Basilisk's Gaze for 12 million, so my slotting/build continues to come together.
I'm level 36, nearly level 37, and I have over 900 million influence.
